    Council chief receives Peace Ambassador award

    The Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Dr. Valentine Buraimoh, has been conferred with the prestigious title of Peace Ambassador by Bravns Magazine, a UN Volunteer organisation.

    This was conferred on him in his office at the council’s secretariat. It is in recognition of his efforts in promoting peace and development in Amuwo-Odofin.

    As a dedicated public servant, Buraimoh has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the well-being of his constituents.

    His administration has implemented various initiatives aimed at enhancing education, community safety, skill empowerment, infrastructure development, and economic support for the people of Amuwo-Odofin. A statement by the Public Affairs Officer of the council, Eniola Akinyemi, the conferment is a testament to Buraimoh’s exemplary leadership and his ability to bring people together towards a common goal. “His vision for a peaceful and prosperous Amuwo-Odofin has resonated with the people, and this recognition is a well-deserved acknowledgment of his hard work and dedication.

    “As Peace Ambassador, Buraimoh is expected to continue promoting peace and harmony in Amuwo-Odofin, and to serve as a role model for others to emulate.     “The people of Amuwo-Odofin and beyond celebrate this achievement, and we look forward to seeing the continued impact of Buraimoh’s leadership in promoting peace and development in our communities,” the statement read in part.

    Mushin holds thanksgiving service

    Mushin Local Government has held a thanksgiving service to celebrate the peace and progress in the council.

    The event, which took place at the Mushin Local Government Secretariat, had the theme: Thanksgiving of Consolidation.

    While delivering his New Year thanksgiving message, the council chairman, Emmanuel Bamigboye, expressed appreciation to God for the favour and privilege he has received in his political journey.

    He thanked the political leaders in Mushin, particularly, Sen. Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon for creating a platform for him, members of his cabinet and lawmakers, to manage the political affairs of the council for two terms.

    The council boss praised political leaders and members across the entire 10 wards and communities in Mushin Local Government.

    According to him, the thanksgiving service was a testament to the community’s resilience and determination to build a better future for themselves and their children. He gave account of his stewardship and programmes executed to ‘make life comfortable, alleviate poverty and empower both youths and women in the community’.

    Excitement as Olasoju begins road construction

    The commencement of construction work on Ibadan Street in Ilasamaja area of Isolo Local Council Development Area has been welcomed with excitement by residents and road users in the community.

    Preliminary work began when the contractor – JIDSMA Nigeria Limited contracted by the council authority under the leadership of Olasoju Adebayo to put the road in desirable and motorable state like the adjoining Baale Street moved to site.

    Recall that the council chief had, last May, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the now-completed Baale Street, assured that Ibadan street will also be constructed to consolidate and complement the Baale Street stretch.

    House owners and residents on the street could not but take pleasure in the development with many staying outside their respective houses to monitor the ongoing earthwork activity.

    ‘’This is a development we find so delightsome because our hopes had been raised since construction work started on Baale Street and we are glad that the council chairman has shown yet again that he’s a man of integrity by walking the talk on his promise of extending the development to our street,” a resident, Sarah Ogunsakin said.

    She added: “The fact is that the beauty of what the chairman has done in Baale is for similar efforts to e extended to Ibadan and maybe Cecilia Odutuga to further link with Ogunbowale to create a ring road that will completely take traffic from the main road. Above all this is a welcome and laudable development that we are all proud of.”

    Another resident, who identified herself as Alhaja Adejumo said: “What more can I say to the chairman for this development that many of us believe is long over due. We are glad that he has remembered us in Ibadan street with this road construction. Our hope is that it will be completed soonest like Baale street. Upon completion, we will take ownership and ensure its proper usage through the Community Development Association (CDA).”

    The Chairman of Iba Local Council Development Area, Lagos, has inaugurated Eleda Road, Iba New Town, Iba.

    Its Chairman, Jubril Yisa, said the interlocking road was a collective effort to building a better, more suitable and livable community.

    He described the road completion as a significant milestone in the development of the area.

    According to him, infrastructure development is the backbone of any thriving community as it is germane to ensure socio-economic growth.

    Jubril stated that the Eleda Road joined his administration’s recent accomplishments, including the inauguration of a block of six classrooms and another interlocking road at Ashawu Apeke Street.

    He reiterated that the road was a result of the collective efforts for a common goal.

    He said: “To our community leaders and stakeholders, I say to you that this road is a result of our collective efforts, our collaborative spirit and our unwavering dedication to the development of our community. It is a shining example of what we can achieve when we work together towards a common goal.

    “This road represents a beacon of hope, opportunities, a bridge to prosperity, and a symbol for a brighter tomorrow.”

    The council boss told residents that the road is a gift aimed at improving their quality of life, enhancing mobility, and increasing access to economic opportunities.

    He thanked everyone who has contributed to the success of the project.

    Badagry assures students of swift payment of bursary

    The Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State , Mr Olusegun Onilude, has assured students in higher institutions that bursary would be disbursed on time.

    Onilude gave the assurance in a statement by his Supervisor for Education, Mrs Sewede Pot-Balogun.He said  the issues surrounding the delays had been resolved.

    Onilude lauded the students’ maturity in tackling the matter through an open letter from concerned Badagry students, addressed to him and the Education office.

    “It is always encouraging to see our future leaders expressing their concerns in a mature and disciplined manner,” he said.

    Onilude reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to education, citing achievements which include:  free JAMB forms, summer schools, improved school facilities, and bursary programmes.

    “The Onilude-led administration has made the education of Badagry students a priority.

    “While your letter serves as a reminder, it is not the ultimate impetus for action, as the administration has already prioritised the disbursement in its budget. Your accounts will be credited sooner than expected,” he promised.

    Onilude attributed the delays to unforeseen circumstances, stressing that the issues had been looked into.

    He expressed gratitude for the students’ understanding and cooperation.

    “Thank you for the manner in which you publicly registered your displeasure.

    “I pledge that my administration will continue prioritising education, and  service to the people is our utmost priority,” he added.

    How to win council poll, by Lagos APC chairman

    The Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, has urged members to remain united and love one another to enable the party  win the upcoming 2025  local government election in the state.

    Ojelabi made the appeal at the Victory Celebration and Thank you visit organised by the Coordinator of Badagry Independent Campaign Council (ICC), Mr Ibrahim Layode, the Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs.

    According to him, with the banning of Mandate and Justice Forums groups  in the  Lagos APC by President Bola Tinubu, members should be united to work for the progress of the party.

    “If you look back, since you have joined the party, no candidate has secured a ticket under Justice or Mandate Forum.

    “It is through the party that members secured tickets. Let us, therefore,  embrace one another, be truthful and shun segregation. That’s why President Tinubu asked us to ban the groups.”

    According  to him, the  Lagos APC  will be setting up a  disciplinary committee, and those who  cannot abide by the party’s rules and regulations  are free to withdraw their membership.

    “You can’t tell us how to run our party,” he said.

    The party chairman urged members to always attend ward and local government area meetings of the party, adding that they remained the only approved APC meetings.

    He urged members who had not registered for voters card or lost it to do so.

    Ojelabi, however, assured members that the party would create a level playing ground for them in the upcoming Lagos  council poll.

    ” I want to assure you that whoever emerges winner in the primaries will be announced once the result is submitted,” he said.

    On the victory and thank you ceremony, the chairman commended members who had contributed to the  party’s success in the  2023 general elections.

    “I’m happy Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has rewarded you for voting for APC through infrastructural development in Badagry,” he said.

    Commissioner for Home Affairs and coordinator of ICC, Ibrahim Layode, said the event was to celebrate the amazing contributions of the ICC  members to  APC victory in the  2023 general elections.

    “This is just to rejoice together and give glory to God and also to buckle our belts for the coming election, we don’t want to wait until then ,” he said.

    Layode also emphasised the importance of unity amongst party members, adding that the ICC had become a movement in Badagry.

    A lawmaker, representing Badagry in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Bonu Solomon,  urged the  ICC members to build synergy and unity amongst themselves to enable the party succeed in the  upcoming  council election.

    ICC Secretary, Emmanuel Kappo,  urged APC members in Badagry to continue to work together to guarantee  dividends of democracy.

    Lawmaker renovates Mushin General Hospital

    A Member of the House of Representatives, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, has inagurated a newly renovated block at General Hospital, Mushin, Lagos.

    The renovation was made to improve qualitative health care services to residents in Mushin Local Government Area.

    Fayinka said general hospitals are crucial for providing advanced medicare in a conducive environment.

    The renovation, he said, would improve health services for the people.

    The Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer, General Hospital Mushin, Dr Oluyemi Oyebanke Taiwo, assured that the General Hospital is committed to the delivery of accessible and credible healthcare services to its patients.

    She applauded Fayinka for fulfilling his promise to facilitate the renovation of the hospital.

    She noted that the building underwent renovation of doors, painting and other important infrastructure that could give a new outlook to the hospital.

    She appealed to residents to appreciate the good work by attending medical services provided while calling unto other philanthropists to contribute more towards the development of the community.

    The Daramola Dynasty Foundation (DDF) in partnership with Whitefield Group has rewarded academic and technical brilliance among young innovators at the recently hosted the DDF Debate and Exhibition: Innovation and Creativity.

    The event with the  theme: Harnessing Youth Potential for a Sustainable Future was part of the Remo Day, 2024 celebrations aimed at empowering youths and harnessing their potential for a sustainable future.

    Speaking during the event held at the Ewusi of Makun Town Hall, Sagamu, the founder of Daramola Dynasty Foundation, Olanrewaju Daramola, noted that the event underscored the vital role of young people in driving innovation and addressing contemporary challenges.

    He added: “The future belongs to those who can think creatively and act boldly. Our youths are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are the change makers of today”.

    He reiterated the foundation’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering sustainable progress, adding that its dedication to building impactful platforms for young innovators has further solidified its role as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the next generation.

    The Special Adviser to the governor on Education, Ronke Soyombo, emphasised the importance of education and mentorship, noting that “When young people are equipped with knowledge and given the platform to innovate, there is no limit to what they can achieve.”

    The programme featured a debate session which showcased exceptional talents as participants proposed creative solutions to pressing global and local challenges. Winners were celebrated for their ingenuity and outstanding performances.

    In the secondary school debate category, Remo Secondary School emerged as the champion, winning N200,000 and a laptop, while Christ Apostolic Grammar School claimed second place with N100,000 and a laptop, and Isara Secondary School took third place, receiving N50,000. The Gateway ICT Polytechnic Group Exhibition also displayed remarkable innovations.

     The Business Administration Department won N120,000 for their exhibition of Dano Milk products, with the Marketing Department securing N80,000 for a similar showcase. In the Electrical Electronics category, the Solar Light Exhibition claimed first prize, earning N200,000 and a laptop, while the Solar and Bulb Electrical Product project won N100,000 and a laptop for second place. The Electric Socket Exhibition followed in third with N50,000 and a laptop, and the Solar Food Dryer project earned a laptop in fourth place.

    Whitefield Group played a crucial role by providing laptops for the winners. Additionally, they announced further support for the secondary school students who attended the event, reinforcing its unwavering commitment to youth empowerment and education.

    The event not only rewarded academic and technical brilliance but also provided a platform for youth innovators to display groundbreaking projects in technology, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.

    Participants expressed excitement about the opportunity, with one student from Gateway polytechnic sharing, “This event gave me the confidence to share my ideas and believe in the power of my voice,” while another described it as an empowering experience that validated their aspirations.

    Food: Orile-Agege secures 50-acre for farming

    The Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), of  Lagos State has secured 50 Acres of farmland in Ogun, for the 2025 farming season and beyond.

    Chairman of the council, Johnson Babatunde, said  the  over 50 Acres of land at Obada Oko in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun, would be given to interested residents for crop and animal farming to cushion the effects of food challenges.

    He said that  interested residents  of Orile-Agege, would  be assisted by the council  to farm on the land, using modern technologies.

    “This agriculture project is  a huge one for the council aimed at not only providing more food but also to get more youths interested in farming.

    “The project will also usher in  new creativity, imagination, and skills in planting crops,  raising animals with modern production methods,” the council chairman said.

    Babatunde said the efforts were meant to empower Orile-Agege youths and other residents interested in farming, noting that the  project would  ensure surplus  food in the area.

    “This project is not only for the 2025 farming season. It will be sustained through the years  and more lands will be acquired for it. ”

    He said the project was part of the council’s unwavering commitment to community empowerment, with  special focus on youth development.

    The chairman said that Obada Oko Orile Agege Farm Village remained  poised to be a catalyst for economic growth, job creation, and food security in Lagos State.

    “By investing in agriculture, we are fostering an environment that encourages young people to explore opportunities in farming, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

    “This project is expected to have a profound impact on youth empowerment, providing the necessary resources and support for them to build successful careers in agriculture.

    “This will  serve as a testament to our dedication to God and service to humanity,  particularly the well-being and progress of the Orile Agege community,” he said.

    Bamigboye kicks off free health services in Mushin

    The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Bamigboye, has kicked off free medical outreach for residents.

    The outreach, which will last for three days, was carried out at Primary Health Centres, Omodigbo and Igbo-Owu, Mushin.

    Bamigboye noted that the outreach programme is a way of safeguarding the health of residents at the grassroots while appealing to residents to desist from engaging in self-medication which could be detrimental to their health.

    He added that the wellbeing of residents is the passion of the council as the outreach is collaboration between National Primary Health Care Development Agency with Mushin Local Government which showcases the council’s efforts to tap into free medical services from Federal Government.

    He said: “The council has made available medical officers that would provide nutrition services, sugar level test, health education, hypertension screening, malaria treatment, diabetes screening, respiratory and urinary tract infection treatment, lipoma excision, appendix remover, cyst removal, hernia repair, free drugs, emergency Caesarean section among others

    “A team of medical doctors would also perform free eye test, minimal surgeries and provide free medical glasses to residents which is in continuation with the free eye test that kick started last year.”

    Supervisor for Health, Oluwafemi Nuga, said the free healthcare service has witnessed an immense number of residents from young to old with the aim to improve their wellbeing.

    He added that patients with cataracts would specially be attended to on Friday as a means of relief from the council.

    He prayed for the good wellbeing of residents while encouraging them to live a healthy life for the development of the nation.

    A beneficiary, Mr Ojo Adebowale, while attesting to the efficiency of the free medical service, appreciated the council boss for making the service available at their doorstep.

    He noted that his complaint was well attended to with free drugs administered to him.
