    1,000 get free food in Eti-Osa

    A thousand residents of Eti-Osa Local Government have benefited from the Sanwo-Olu Food Palliative distributed by the Chairman of Saheed Bankole.

    The free food packages distribution exercise was aimed at addressing the needs of Lagosians vulnerable to the present economic hardship.

    Bankole, who was represented by his vice, Omooba Adeola Adeyanju, praised the outstanding gesture of the governor.

    He said the distribution of these food packages had a significant impact on the lives of the citizens, providing them with much-needed support during these challenging times.

    He reiterated that the free food packages would give relief to many families who have been struggling to make ends meet.Adeyanju further emphasised that by reaching 1,000 residents in all councils, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s initiative has not only addressed the immediate needs of the community but has also shown a dedication to the welfare and well-being of the citizens.

    The council boss, who also distributed over 3,000 food packages to the residents, on March 28, pledged that the distribution of free food packages continues, and promised that more residents in Eti-Osa will benefit.

    The food packages  included  rice, beans and vegetable oil.

    The Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye, Local Council Development Area, Razaq Ajala, has distributed 15kg rice to the residents.

    This, he said, is a way of supporting the people, especially during the hard times.

    Ajala stated that the gesture cuts across all the political parties including the market women, artisans and the less privileged.

    He added that the sales of subsided food stuff has commenced. He said: “We have  commenced subsidising food stuff as from April. It is by 100 per cent. We are not limiting  to rice, other food items will be included.

    “We intend to sell rice, garri, vegetable oil, pepper and other commodities.

    “This would not prevent us from discharging our core responsibility of providing qualitative primary education, ensuring functional healthcare, providing good roads to ensure that residents and other road users experience pleasurable driving.”

    The Council Manager, Mrs Afolake Otenaike, urged the residents to support the government and do all that is necessary for the development of the community.

    A beneficiary, Bayo Babatunde, hailed the council boss.

    “I thank our governor for alleviating our sufferings; I appreciate the effort of our council chairman in giving out things to suppress the negative impact of subsidy removal,” he said.

    Another beneficiary, Saheed Yusuf, lauded the council chief.

    To assuage the effects of high prices and shortage of food in the markets, Chairman of Oto Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA),  Prince Musibau Asafa, distributed another set of food stuffs to the residents.

    Asafa carried out this gesture at the second edition of the Food Support program held recently at the council secretariat where another set of 500 people received food stuffs like rice, beans, garri and semovita, among others.

    Prince Asafa said: “Since the removal of fuel subsidy last year, every level of government has been providing food support to reduce the hardship of the high price of food on the people. My government since then has engaged in series of palliatives to mitigate the effect of this subsidy removal and our first edition of the food palliative has about 3,000 residents benefited”

    He said he had also disbursed N20,000 as cash palliative to 1000 residents on two occasions as a way of lending succour to those in need.

    The council boss urged the people not to relent in supporting and praying for leaders at the helms of affairs especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu so that they will continue to render quality leadership.

    A beneficiary, Oya Kazeem,  eulogised the Asafa for his continuous provision of palliative to the residents and prayed for him.

    Apapa Local Government has distributed food items to the residents.

    Its chairman, Idowu Senbanjo, said that the gesture was from Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu to provide support and assistance to the needy.

    “Mr Governor’s goal is to alleviate the burden on the less privilege members in our communities and ensure that no one goes home hungry during this challenging times,” she said.

    The council boss applauded Governor Sanwo-olu for his unwavering support and assistance to the council.

    She implored the people to support one another go through the economic hardship.

    “My brothers and sisters, what we are going through in Nigeria is affecting us all. There is no one that’s not affected. If you have enough today those who could not afford should be given. Don’t let’s say We’ve gotten enough and forget others. Let’s share what we have with other persons. Let’s have that spirit of generosity and giving. Islam says give alms; christians says share with your neighbours,” she said.

    She said those who benefitted from earlier palliative won’t share in the one distributed on that day.

    This, she said, was to ensure that the food packs go round.

    Chairman Lagos Mainland Local Government, Mrs Omolola Essien has gifted 800 palliatives to residents of the local government.

    This gesture, she said, was done to help their people and mitigate the effect of the  harsh economy on the people.

    The council boss said that about 800 free palliatives are being distributed to the people, and that they’re also trying to give our people food in different local government.

    “This is going to be continuous, we’ve done it before, we’re doing it today. We will do it in the next two weeks so that those that didn’t take part today,will be a beneficiary in the next one. We gave them beans, garri , indomie, yam and bread,” she said.

    She lauded government’s effort in trying to make things work for good and advised the people to work in unity with the government so as to bring peace and progress to the country.

    “Government is doing their best, it’s up to us to do our best too because as they say dollar, dollar is going down, food in the market is going up, it shouldn’t be, we’re not helping ourselves in the market because we’re trying to inflate things, the factories should help the government. Government is trying, let us join hands together, it’s not about giving this and that that’ll help, it’ll help a bit,” She stated.

    One of the beneficiaries , Mrs Ajidupe Monsurat, expressed her gratitude to the council chairman and to the government for sharing the palliatives.

    She added that the government did their best but they’ll always come back for more.

    She also pleaded with the government to increase the population of the security in the state and to also provide jobs for the unemployed.

    “I’ll thank them again, for giving us this because one good turn deserves another, and we’re Oliver Twist, we’ll always come back for more. My advice to the government is that we want more of this, they tried for us but in terms of security, the economic situation of the country is bad at the moment, I’ll like the federal government to increase the population of the security men and also to provide work for the unemployed people.” She said.

    Another beneficiary, Afeez Raji, a disabled man lauded the actions of the government and said that the actions were unexpected.

    He expressed his gratitude to the council chairman for always carrying the people living with disabilities along with empowerment programmed going on in the local government.

    He urged the government to make it mandatory for all other local governments to emulate this actions, so as to make the society a better place.

    “If all local governments can be like this, people with disabilities won’t be begging on the streets, and I want our government to assist us, I have an handwork and we have educated people in our society. If they can assist us concerning our works to be able to benefit in one way or the other so that there won’t be people begging in the area.” He said.

    The Chairman of Iba Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Jubril Yisa, has appealed to traders to make current realities reflect in prices of food items.

    He urged them not to inflate the prices beyond the reach of Nigerians in a bid to make outrageous profits.

    Yisa, popularly called Abila, said this during the distribution of 1000 packs of Governor Sanwoolu free food palliatives on Saturday at the Council Secretariat, Iba.

    He promised more of palliative programmes  for residents to relieve them from the hardship and pains as a result of fuel subsidy removal.

    Yisa, who distributed 1000 packs of food last Wednesday, said Saturday’s distribution is an additional one from  Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu.

    This, he said, was to support Federal Government and to complement what his administration has been doing for the people.

    He enjoined them to be calm, assuring that the Federal Government is working tirelessly towards revamping the economy.

    “We will all going to smile and enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.

    The Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Semiudeen Kasali and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, have hailed Chairman of Igbogbo/Bayeku Local Council Development Area, Olusesan Daini, over the construction of Market Street road, Igbogbo, Lagos.

    Oba Kasali said the delivery of project and many other projects embarked upon Daini had vindicated the party leaders.

    The monarch said Daini deserved to be commended for the developmental projects and other initiatives aimed at making life easier and better for the people.

    Asiwaju Basorun said the delivery of market street road was a confirmation that Daini really concerned about the people and infrastructural transformation of the council.

    The former Secretary of the Lagos State Government expressed optimism that the newly commissioned road would go a long way to reduce the traffic gridlock on the Obafemi Awolowo way and other adjoining routes.

    Also speaking, the Odofin of Igbogbo Kingdom, Chief Tajudeen Onasanya, equally applauded the administration of Daini, noting that he emulated the developmental legacies of Asiwaju Basorun.

    Daini said he is addicted to the growth and development of Igbogbo/Bayeku LCDA.

    The road, he said, would ease the economic activities with the lasting solution to the frequent traffic at every night, along Awolowo Way Igbogbo.

    The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Dr Mojeed Balogun, has given 50 per cent reduction on all food Items sold to the residents.

    The council boss stated that the gesture was to cushion the economic hardship.

    According to him, giving palliative is germane to ameliorate the suffering of the people. “Just like the federal government is doing its best in cushioning the effect of the subsidy removal, Lagos state government, also felt the need to support the course to reduce burden on the people,” he said.

    Dr Balogun said the items sold include yam, rice, beans, eggs, pepper, onions, garri among others adding that their target was to sell to over 5,000 people.

    He said the council devises a way of making people come in in batches to avoid crowd.

    He hailed the residents for orderliness.

    According to him, people are free to buy as much as they want.

    The council chief said special arrangements were made for the aged.

    He stressed that people no longer engage in farming, urging Nigerians to return to farming.

    He said: “People should not sell all their lands for building; people should have the ability to go into farming, we are lacking in that, we only believe in oil, nobody want to go into farming. Let us all endeavors to go back to farming so that we can be self-sufficient.”

    He noted that in serving as an exemplary purpose, the council also had farm and sold some of their products to the people.

    He said the council is also involved in commercial farming.

    The Chairman, Ojo Local Government, Rasulu Idowu, has distributed food packs to 1,000 persons and N20,000 each to 500 individuals in the community.

    The gesture, he said, was aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship on residents.

    “The gesture is an evidence of our commitment to the welfare of Ojo people. It is a small gesture of support which comes from a place of sincerity and genuine concern for each and every one of you.”

    Idowu stressed that inflation and economic instabilities had brought about numerous challenges, affecting the livelihoods and well-being of many residents in the community.

    The council boss said:”In these unprecedented times of hardship and uncertainty, it is crucial that we come together as a community to support one another.

    “As the Executive Chairman of this local government , it is my duty to ensure that no one in our community is left behind or forgotten during these times. Today, we are not just handing out cash and foodstuffs, but we are demonstrating solidarity, compassion, and resilience in the face of adversity,” he said.

    The beneficiaries include three individuals each from the 235 polling units in the constituents and fivewards respectively.

    The council boss added that another initiative has also been put in place to ease the hardship  of members of tye community.

    “We’ve added five million naira to Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) project here at the local government. Initially, it was five million, now it’s N10 million, you can walk down to the LSETF office at the local government and request for loan and you will be given instantly.”

    The council chief lauded the Governor of Lagos State on the Ounje Eko 25% discount Sunday market for citizens of Lagos State across  the 52 local government areas to cushion the effect of high cost of essential food items.

    “I want to use this forum to inform you to patronise our own which is at Ojo Senior High School,Ojo every Sunday. I equally want to appreciate our distinguished Senator, Representative, Lagos West,Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule for distributing over 10,000  food palliatives to her constituents in the Lagos West Senatorial District. Your collective efforts have made a significant impact on the lives of our residents.We give kudos to these laudable gestures during this critical period. “

    Idowu encouraged residents to practise kindness, empathy, and solidarity.

    “Let us support one another, lift one another, and work hand in hand to build a stronger, more resilient community for the future.”he advised.

    Agege United presentsN1m to aid eye surgery of girl hit by police teargas

    The Agege Molebi United Forum (AMUF) has presented  a 1million naira cheque to the girl, hit in the eye by teargas canister of unknown police men, to aid medical treatment.

    The young girl, Aminant Alege, 12 years old, was hit in the eye by teargas canister allegedly fired by a police man in Dopemu Area of Agege on Friday.

    Nobody has claimed responsibility or came to the assistance of the family since the incident.

    Agege Molebi United Forum (AMUF), a non-governmental organisation based in Agege, touched by her plight, came together to raise the sum to enable her pay for her surgery needed for her eye.

    One of the leaders of Agege Molebi United Forum, Commander Rapid Response Squad (RRS), CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi noted that they decided to come forward to assist the little girl because she is a resident of Agege and that nobody has come forward to assist the family.

    He said that the money the family has used for her initial medical expenses was a loan to the family.

    Egbeyemi noted that AMUF’s gesture is a token from the NGO and that some AMUF’s members have shown interest in supporting her individually.

    He urged the the family not to lose hope and prayed that Aminat and her family come out of the situation much better and stronger.

    One of the family members, Hajia Maryam Alege, lauded the actions of the AMUF and said that the donations will go a long way in relieving them of their burdens.

    “Today, we have witnessed compassion expressed in the real sense. Today we have been given hope again, that there’s light at the end of the tunnel by Agege Molebi United Forum. By the special grace of God, Agege Molebi United Forum will grow from strength to strength and wax stronger and better,” she said.
