    Apapa-Iganmu chair, traditional ruler challenge Lagos CP on performance

    Chairman of Apapa/Iganmu Local Council Development Area in Lagos State, Alhaja Funmilayo Akande-Mohammed and the Orangun of Ila Kingdom, Oba Oyedotun Olukayode, have charged the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, to acquit himself well in the discharge of his duties.

    The duo made the remark during a visit to the police commissioner’s office at the command headquarters, Ikeja, to congratulate him on his promotion.

    Alhaja Akande-Mohammed, who also hails from Ila-Orangun, like Fayoade, said the people   of Ila-Orangun were happy that their son was appointed CP in Lagos state.

    She assured that sons and daughters of Ila-Orangun in Lagos and elsewhere would support the CP to ensure his success in office.

    Oba Olukayode prayed for the success of the police commissioner.

    The monarch advised him not to forget Ila-Orangun, his hometown, while in office.

    “We were very happy when he was promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police.There was jubilation in Ila-Orangun.

    “He should know where he comes from and he should be a good ambassador and not disappoint us.

    “We expect him to perform well and bring honour to us, his people,” he said.

    CP Fayoade described the visit as a great honour, saying he was elated about coming of the traditional ruler to congratulate him and pray for him.

    Fayoade noted that the presence of the traditional ruler meant that the entire people of Ila-Orangun were in Lagos to honour him.

    He said the visit would challenged him to perform well as CP.

    The CP assured the traditional ruler and the people of Ila-Orangun that he would do everything to bring honour home.

    He paid glowing tributes to the late I-G Tafa Balogun and Chief Bisi Akande, a former Osun State governor, for the positive impact they made in his life.

    He urges Lagos residents and people of Ila-Orangun,  in the state and elsewhere, to support him to succeed.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that chiefs, prominent sons and daughters of Ila-Orangun in Lagos and Osun at the ceremony.

    Prayers were offered for the success of the police commissioner.

    Subsidy removal: Council splashes N30m on 1000 residents

    The Oriade Local Council Development Area, Lagos State, has given N30 million to over 1,000 less privileged people and widows in the council.

    The council Chairman, Ramotallai Akinlola-Hassan, earmarked N5 million from the cash for 50 widows.

    Each of the beneficiaries went home with N25,000.

    Akinlola-Hassan said the gesture was in furtherance of cushioning the fuel subsidy removal.

    She said the cash was aimed to support the widows’  small scale businesses.

    She described their deceased’s husbands as who are “political and community heroes.”

    The council boss informed the gathering that a son of a party chieftain killed during the 2021 Local Government electioneering campaign got N1million.

    She added that the palliatives’ distribution to the vulnerable within the council area would continue quarterly till the end of her tenure.

    She explained that the exercise was carried out during the Yuletide to enable residents cope with the rising cost of food and celebrate the season in good mood.

    Akinlola-Hassan appealed to the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the largese.

    She stressed that her mission  after taking the oath of office was to uplift the people of the council.

    While saying that the dividend of democracy would be extended to every residents, she assured those yet to benefit from the poverty alleviation scheme that her administration would take care of their interest.

    The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the council boss and pledged support to her policies and programmes.

    Iba inaugurates interlock road at Isashi

    Chairman, Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, Jubril Yisa, has inaugurated the newly constructed Interlock road at Gospel Avenue, Isashi area of Iba.

    The council chief said his administration is focusing on sustainable and rapid development of the council.

    Jubril applauded individuals who helped him actualised completion of the project.

    “I will like to express my gratitude to God and to everyone involved in the actualisation of this road construction. My appreciation to those who supported the project in one way or the other, I thank you all,” he said.

    He explained that the construction projects started about six month ago and his administration has just inaugurated 537 metres interlocked road at Ifelodun Street, Kemberi.

    Yisa outlined some of the ongoing and inaugurated projects to include the ongoing construction of a twin drainage and culverts at Ashiawu Apeke Street, Okokomaiko; ongoing construction of a twin drainage at Eleda Street, Iba New Town; construction of Borehole at Cassidy Bus Stop, Okokomaiko; ongoing construction of a twin drainage at Seriki Street, Kemberi; construction of Primary Health Centre (PHC), Okokomaiko; construction of culverts at Oduduwa Street and construction of interlock road at Ifelodun Street, Kemberi.

    The council boss stressed that his administration has put smiles on faces of members of the community through series of Abila Food Palliative programmes, Cash Palliatives to community members, staff, widows, and aged to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

    He said: “The students are not left out the programmes; many benefited from the Abila Bursary Awards Programme. Another set of students will also benefit from Abila Bursary Award Programme.’’

    Yisa promised that his administration will continue to implement people-oriented programmes that will impact lives positively.

    He urged residents to be law-abiding and do their normal business activities in a peaceful and lawful manner.

    50 youths for foreign agric training

    Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos State, Mr Wasiu Adesina, has promised to sponsor no fewer than 50 youths on agricultural trainings in various countries.

    Adesina told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ikorodu, Lagos that the trip would be in batches to understudy different production processes and modern techniques in farming.

    According to the council boss, the training would bring a lot of positive benefits to the local government, Lagos State and the nation at large.

    He said: “My administration is committed to youth empowerment, education, health and infrastructural development.

    “This year, my administration will sponsor 50 youths including councilors and supervisors to foreign countries to understudy modern techniques in agriculture.

    “They will come back and impart the knowledge on other youths, so they can begin careers in Agriculture and be employers of labour. It is only in doing this that our youths will escape the scourge of criminality.

    “Training and job creation is a huge impetus for our administration to continue to sponsor youths on oversea training.’’

    He stressed that his administration had taken upon itself the responsibility of sponsoring youths abroad, so that they could impart the knowledge gained on others and make them self-reliant.

    The council boss said selection of beneficiaries would be based on their performance after they might have undergone rigorous screening by stakeholders and All Progressive Congress (APC) party leaders in the area.

    The chairman urged residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and policies, adding that the president’s policies were to correct microeconomics distortion and make the nation better.

    Adesina highlighted some of his administration’s achievement in 2023 to include construction of some link roads, establishment of computer units to train teachers and students of primary schools.

    He said his administration distributed free 3kg cylinder filled with gas to 1, 000 households, constructed boreholes in all the wards, distributed free GCE and JAMB forms to students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.

    The chairman added that his administration had also embarked on surfacing of major roads, complete rehabilitation of primary healthcare building and provision of drugs in Agura community among other interventions.

    “In 2023, my administration magnanimously embarked on numerous developmental projects that made us win the award for most outstanding local government in Nigeria,” he said.

    Similarly, Adesina promised to consolidate his achievement this year through Private Public Partnership (PPP) arrangements and to engage in capital-intensive projects, among which was the construction of a central motor park.

    He reiterated his commitment to engaging in more developmental projects for the community and its environs to enjoy more dividends of democracy.

    “This year, one of our major projects is the construction of a Central Motor Park to decentralise the roundabout to ease traffic and generate revenue.

    “It is a huge project, some properties have to give way, so it is going to be PPP arrangement and we are going to achieve success,” Adesina said.

    Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area  has inaugurated two public healthcare centres and an area office block at Alagbado and Ajasa communities.

    Chairman of the council, David Famuyiwa stated that the centres would improve the welfare of the people through provision of infrastructural development.

    According to him, the development of the three projects that were inaugurated was in fulfillment of the promises to the people.

    “I can assure you that we shall not depart from the path of developing the local council area with profitable infrastructure or fall short of your expectation in the coming year,” he said.

    Famuyiwa promised to take off with two road projects in Abule-Egba and Alagbado in January, saying that on-going projects would be completed in the coming year.

    He rewarded some serving and retired staff members with awards and gifts.

    Among those who were rewarded was the photographer in the Public Affairs Unit of the council, Ajayi Joseph, who was given an Outstanding Staff of The Year Award.

    Alajasa of Ajasaland, Oba Sulaimon Suberu, hailed Famiyiwa for erecting a healthcare centre in the town.

    Onimeiran of Meiranland, Oba Samuel Oroja, praised the council boss for improving the welfare of the people through the provision of infrastructural development.

    The Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Alhaji Monsurudeen Bello, has disbursed cash as palliatives to 2,000 residents.

    He said each of the beneficiary would get N20,000.

    The beneficiaries cut across the various Community Development Associations (CDAs), religious groups, youth council, indigenous families, party members, council staff, and marketers and physically challenged.

    The gesture was done during the meeting and accreditation held at the Ejigbo Mini-Stadium.

    Bello explained that the idea of giving palliative is to give the beneficiaries the freedom to use it for their needs.

    He assured that every beneficiary, who gave the right information when filling the form, would receive the palliative in their various bank accounts.

    The Senator representing Lagos West District, Dr Idiat Adebule, has concluded arrangement to distribute palliatives to 3,000 people in 28 councils.

    The gesture, she said, is a form of empowerment and to help the people be self-reliant.

    Senator Adebule said that the gesture is part of her programmes to touch the lives of many people in her district.

    “We distributed more than 1,000 bags of rice to the people in Lagos West last year.  We want to touch as many lives as we can in the nearest future. We did that partially during the Yuletide but we haven’t done as much as we like by the grace of God. In the next one or two weeks, we’ll give palliatives to 3,000 people,” she said.

    According to her, more than 200 youths were sponsored for training at the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR) in Victoria Island for fish farming.

    On completion, she said, they were given financial assistance to kick-start fish farming business.

    “The 200 beneficiaries were very happy because we have given them an opportunity to be self-reliant and able to employ more people. This is how we can attack poverty by making our youths and elderly to be self-employed. They will in turn be employers of labour and increase fish production in the state,” she said.

    Chairman of Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Jubril Yisa, who recently named a primary healthcare centre in honour of Senator Adebule, described her as a performer and torchbearer for the people in the area.

    Yisa said she has always been delivering and rendering assistance to the people even before she came into power.

    “We’re proud of her. Our people should expect more from her; she is just starting. She will attract better things including projects and job opportunities for her constituents. That, I can assure our people of,” he said.

    Former chairman, Oshodi Isolo Local Government, Afeez Ipesa-Balogun, has returned from the United States to mark his 60th birthday.

    Family, friends, and political associates of Ipesa-Balogun, a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer, have lined up events to celebrate his Diamond jubilee anniversary.

    The ceremony will feature a book launch. The book entitled: “Afeez Ipesa-Balogun: Mr Speaker”, is an exploration of the archives chronicles of his political journey, which is unique because it captures the story of progressive politics in Lagos State over the last 30 years.

    According to one of the organisers, the book is an insider’s account of what is the most powerful movement in Nigeria today: The political family of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

    Ipesa-Balogun, a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is also giving out 25 scholarships to secondary school students to simulate the youth interest to learn our contemporary political history in the Third Republic and beyond.

    The book presentation will hold on February 6, at the Nigeria Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos.

    The celebration will also include Special Jumat Service on February 9 at Masjid Monsurat Ipesa-Balogun, Awoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos. The mosque was built in honour of his late wife.

    On February 10, there would be a Charity Walk ending with a free medical treatment and distribution of foodstuffs to the community at the Oshodi Isolo Local Government Area Secretariat, Oshodi.

    The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Emmanuel Bamigboye, has donated vehicles to Grand Chief Imam of Mushin; Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Mushin chapter, Chairman of Community Development Committee (CDC); market leaders and National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

    The gesture, Bamigboye said,  would aid them in the smooth running of their various offices.

    “The vehicles are necessity for them to carry out some of the official functions. Some of them are elderly. They attend meetings in the state. We don’t want a situation where they will be on okada (motor cycle) or looking for vehicle to convey them even when it’s rainy,” he said.

    Bamgboye advised the leaders to ensure proper maintenance of the vehicle.

    He said the council has done well in providing social amenities.

    Grand Chief Imam Mushin, Sheikh Suleiman Olanijo, lauded the council chairman for his gestures towards the religious bodies and various leaders in the community.

    He said the chairman always gave them listening ears in contributing to the progress of the council.

    He pleaded with the council boss to create more job opportunities for graduates in the community.

    According to him, religious leaders should be allowed to nominate people for job opportunities.

    Chairman of CAN in Mushin, Primate Dare Akindele, said the chairman has done a lot to improve the standard living of Mushin residents.

    “He has been upright and working assiduously to develop Mushin and we want him not to stop,” he said.

    He enjoined residents to pay their taxes.

    Community Development Council (CDC) Chairman, Otunba Femi Okuyemi, commended the council chief for his gesture

    “This vehicle is really huge and I won’t have to be running after okada or tricycle before attending meetings as old as I am. I’m sincerely grateful,” he said.

    He said since the establishment of the council, Bamigboye towers above his predecessors. “See how he has developed the council Secretariat and make it a beauty to behold. He also increases the number of offices for workers’ convenience,” he said. He urged Bamigboye not to rest on his oars.

    The Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area has organised an End-of- year/Christmas Party for kids in the council at the council Secretariat,  Agbowa, Lagos.

      The chairman of the council, Wale Anomo highlighted the commitment of his administration to the development of council, emphasising social welfare packages, education, empowerment, among others.

    He noted that though the programme was hosted by his wife, it was a collective effort to celebrate the children during the festive season.

    He highlighted various activities such as quizzes, pick and talk, and funfair for the children, emphasising the importance of putting smiles on the faces of the future leaders.

    He pledged that the next edition of the Christmas and New Year funfair would be more elaborate, ensuring parents also enjoy the festivities and take home valuable items.

    The chairman’s wife, Sijuade Anomo, echoed her appreciation for the support from the sponsors of the programme and the people of Ikosi-Ejinrin.

    She emphasised the significance of the funfair to the community.

    She urged the kids to draw inspiration from the Special Guest of Honour, Aramide Adeyoye, and Mrs. Mosunmola Otaiku-Okoka,  who are indigenes of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA and have excelled in their  fields.

    The event featured a raffle draw with prizes like gas cylinders, grinding machines, coolers and popcorn machines, adding to the festive atmosphere.
