Coalition denies false alarm against Tantita Security Services

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Defense of Human Rights has expressed concern over the desperate attempts by certain individuals in the Niger Delta region to impersonate its coalition and raise false alarms against Tantita Security Services Limited and its management.

In a statement, the coalition’s President, Abe Emmanuel Kolawole, said ‘these individuals’, who have long hidden under the guise of human rights advocacy, are perpetrators of illegal activities, including economic sabotage through oil bunkering.

It said: “Their malicious intent is clear: to tarnish Tantita Security Services’s hard-earned reputation and mislead the local and international communities. For years, oil thieves and their enablers have caused significant economic losses for our nation, depriving communities of much-needed development and putting national security at risk.

“However, thanks to the relentless and patriotic efforts of Tantita Security Services Limited, there has been a decisive clampdown on oil theft in the region. This has directly contributed to increased oil production capacity and boosted Nigeria’s economic fortunes.

“It is therefore not surprising that these enemies of progress, now crippled by the success of Tantita’s operations, have resorted to desperate and malicious smear campaigns. We strongly condemn these underhanded tactics and reaffirm our unwavering support for Tantita Security Services in its ongoing efforts to protect Nigeria’s oil assets from criminal syndicates.

“We urge the general public and the international community to disregard any false narratives peddled by these economic saboteurs, who are only interested in sustaining their illicit businesses at the expense of national development.

“Furthermore, we wish to categorically state that our coalition remains committed to genuine human rights advocacy and will not allow our name to be hijacked for fraudulent propaganda. In the days ahead, we will be working closely with the media to counter all forms of misrepresentation and ensure that the truth is upheld.

“We call on security agencies to investigate and expose these impersonators who are attempting to mislead the public for selfish and criminal interests. The fight against oil theft must not be derailed by deceptive campaigns orchestrated by those who have lost their illegal grip on the nation’s resources.”

  • Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations: A threat to 10th Senate’s integrity

    Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations: A threat to 10th Senate’s integrity

    By Ahmed Tijani Ibn Mustapha

In recent weeks , Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has embarked on a calculated campaign to tarnish the reputation of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and undermine the credibility of the 10th Senate. Her tactics, which include baseless accusations, character assassination, and the manipulation of facts, have not only raised eyebrows but also cast a shadow over the integrity of Nigeria’s legislative arm. This article seeks to expose the unsavoury methods employed by Senator Natasha in her quest to drag the Senate President and the institution of the Senate into disrepute.

One of the most egregious tactics employed by Senator Natasha is her repeated accusation of sexual harassment against the Senate President. These allegations, which she has echoed in the media and public forums, are not only damaging but also lack any substantive evidence. Despite the gravity of such claims, Senator Natasha has failed to provide even the tiniest shred of proof to substantiate her accusations. This raises serious questions about her motives and the credibility of her claims.

In a society where allegations of sexual harassment are taken seriously and can have far-reaching consequences, it is irresponsible and unethical to make such claims without evidence. By doing so, Senator Natasha not only undermines the fight against genuine cases of harassment but also weaponizes serious societal issues for personal and political gain. Her actions are a disservice to the very cause she claims to champion.

Another example of Senator Natasha’s manipulative tactics is her distortion of the circumstances surrounding her suspension from the Senate. Contrary to her claims, her suspension was a direct result of her disorderly conduct on the floor of the Senate, a fact that has been well-documented. However, Senator Natasha has chosen to twist this narrative, falsely asserting that she was suspended for making allegations against the Senate President.

This deliberate misrepresentation of facts is a classic example of how Senator Natasha seeks to portray herself as a victim while deflecting attention from her own misconduct. By framing her suspension as an act of political victimization, she attempts to garner public sympathy and divert scrutiny from her actions. This tactic is not only dishonest but also undermines the integrity of the Senate’s disciplinary processes.

Senator Natasha’s recent actions are not an isolated incident but rather part of a pattern of behavior. In 2014, she accused Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, of making inappropriate advances during a visit to the Presidential Villa. However, Omokri vehemently denied these allegations and provided irrefutable evidence to prove that he was not even in the country on the date in question. This incident serves as a stark reminder of Senator Natasha’s propensity for making unsubstantiated claims to further her agenda.

One can only speculate on the motivations driving Senator Natasha’s campaign of blackmail and character assassination. However, it is not unreasonable to assume that her objective is to elevate her own political standing by tearing others down. In a political landscape where public perception often shapes success, Senator Natasha appears to have chosen the path of destruction rather than constructive engagement.

Her actions, however, come at a great cost. By targeting the Senate President and the institution of the Senate, she not only undermines the credibility of Nigeria’s legislative arm but also erodes public trust in the democratic process. Her tactics are a disservice to the Nigerian people, who deserve leaders committed to integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s campaign of blackmail and character assassination is a dangerous and destructive force in Nigerian politics. Her baseless allegations, manipulation of facts, and history of unsubstantiated accusations reveal a pattern of behavior that is both unethical and damaging. As citizens, we must demand better from our leaders and hold them accountable for their actions. The integrity of our democracy depends on it.

It is time for Senator Natasha to either provide concrete evidence to support her claims or cease her campaign of defamation. The Nigerian people deserve leaders who are committed to truth, justice, and the common good, not those who seek to rise by pulling others down. The 10th Senate, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, must remain focused on its mandate to serve the nation, undeterred by the distractions of those who seek to undermine its work.

  • Mayaki berates PDP chairman over Edo security

Mayaki berates PDP chairman over Edo security

Former Chief Press Secretary to ex-Governor Godwin Obaseki, Mr. John Mayaki, has slammed the Edo Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, for what he described as his hypocrisy in criticising Governor Monday Okpebholo’s security efforts.

Mayaki said:“How can a man who was kidnapped in broad daylight under Obaseki’s government now pontificate on insecurity? If the PDP government couldn’t even protect its own party chairman, what moral right does Aziegbemi have to lecture anyone on security?”

He described Aziegbemi’s comments as a desperate attempt to deflect from the PDP’s catastrophic failure in governance, reminding Edo people that insecurity thrived under Obaseki, while his administration remained indifferent to the suffering of citizens.

Mayaki noted that for eight years, the PDP government neglected security, allowing Edo State to become a haven for kidnappers, cultists, and criminals.

His words: “Under Obaseki administration, farmers raised alarms over herdsmen attacks, communities pleaded for protection, but Obaseki and his team looked the other way. Rather than addressing these crises, the PDP government focused on political infighting and issuing empty statements.

“Now, barely months into a new administration, the same PDP that left Edo’s security infrastructure in ruins wants to rewrite history and blame the APC. Governance is not about press conferences and political grandstanding – it requires actual work, something the PDP never did in eight years.”

Mayaki stressed Okpebholo inherited a broken security system, which the new administration is actively working to fix in collaboration with security agencies.

He lamented instead of supporting efforts to restore order, the PDP was desperately seeking relevance through baseless accusations.

“Before offering unsolicited advice, Aziegbemi and the PDP should first apologize to Edo people for their incompetence.

“The PDP lacks the credibility to speak on governance, having left Edo State in a far worse condition than they met it. But Edo people are wiser now, and no amount of propaganda will erase the memory of their misrule,” Mayaki said.

Niger Delta youth leaders seek arrests over planned nationwide women protest

The Niger Delta Youth Leaders Association has called on security agencies to take decisive action against the sponsors of the planned nationwide protest by women under the aegis of the Purple Women Foundation.

The group, in a statement by Comrade Ufuoma Erharhine, emphasised that their call was necessary due to certain factions organising demonstrations fuelled not by genuine grievances but by external influences and agendas aimed at destabilising the country.

It said: “While we acknowledge the right to peaceful assembly as a cornerstone of our democracy, we must remain vigilant against movements intended to incite violence, unrest, and division among our citizens.

“We urge the President to prioritise the safety and security of all citizens by directing intelligence and law enforcement agencies to investigate Chief Emma Uduaghan, the husband of Senator Natasha, who is believed to be the financier of these protests.

“Investigating who is behind these initiatives is crucial for preventing any potential escalation that could lead to civil disorder and unrest.”

“The stability of our nation must remain paramount. History shows us that unrest often leads to unnecessary suffering and can have long-lasting effects on our communities and institutions.”

“We believe that thorough investigations are necessary not only to protect our great nation but also to uphold the democratic values we cherish.”

“We call for transparency in the findings of these investigations and urge the government to communicate with the public regarding measures being taken to ensure our safety and security.”

“We remain resolute in defense of the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu without fear or favor, as the continuous attacks on Senator Akpabio are attacks against the President and the people of the South-South.”

“We stand ready to support the government’s commitment to peace and order and the leadership of Senator Godswill Akpabio. We call upon all stakeholders to do their part to foster peace because if these attacks do not stop, they will lead to unrest in the Niger Delta region.”

  • Ex-militants: we are proud of Otuaro’s strides in Amnesty Office

Ex-militants: we are proud of Otuaro’s strides in Amnesty Office

The first set of former Niger Delta freedom fighters who accepted the Federal Government’s amnesty arose from their meeting in Port Harcourt with a resolution that all those distracting the coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, Chief Dennis Otuaro should allow the man to concentrate in his assignment.

Saying that they were proud of Otuaro’s efforts in stabilising the PAP and deliberately ensuring that beneficiaries of the amnesty programme got their dues as and when due, leaders of the first phase repentant militants said those attacking Otuaro were doing so for selfish reasons.

They spoke as the ex-militant leaders have begun the processes of getting fresh leaders that will coordinate their activities.

Pioneer president of the first phase ex-militants forum, Pastor Reuben Wilson. who spoke with journalists after their meeting said they could not fold their hands and watch people run down a man who was doing very well for the amnesty programme.

He said: “The man is doing very well in the office as the administrator. He has done very well, he has tried. At least he is truly taking the amnesty programme to higher heights. He’s been someone that has been in the struggle.

“100 per cent of his stay in the Niger Delta creeks was for the struggle; so he knows all the (ex-militants camp) leaders by their names. And what he is doing now, we are really happy with it.

“We have noticed that we have some criminal elements that are trying to bring him down, but we are here to say that their actions will amount to nothing because they are not working in the interest of the amnesty programme.”

Wilson, a major supporter and campaigner for the emergence of President Bola Tinubu, also said it was the best decision to appoint Otuaro as head of the amnesty office.

He said it was gratifying to note that Otuaro was already giving proper expression to the president’s dream of a properly managed amnesty office. He said Tinubu must have seen how well Otuaro had managed the amnesty office, insisting that a greater percentage of the stakeholders were very happy with the coordinator.

“We want him(Otuaro) to succeed and if we as major stakeholders say that Otuaro is good and active, that means he is good.  We can confirm to the world that the PAP coordinator is doing excellently well. That is why we, in the course of our meeting, decided to pass a vote of confidence on him,” he added.

Wilson said part of the issues Otuaro was having was his decision to close the doors against ghost contractors who were merely collecting monies but refusing to work.

“There are people who were making millions of naira through the back door.

“So, as Otuaro decided to end that regime, they decided to go against him. Now, there is no way for them to make the money they were making, hence their decision to start cooking up stories in order to rubbish the man. That is all that is playing out,” he argued.

Also speaking, Prince Emeka Igwe, the Imo State coordinator of the group said “Otuaro is trying to change the narrative, he is trying to change the old ways that things were being done and the system is fighting back.

According to him: “The SA is reaching out to the grassroots, interfacing with everybody, making sure that those that own the programme will benefit from it; that is what is happening. All of us today passed a vote of confidence on him because of his leadership style. We are very, very happy with him.

“Anywhere we go, we say that he is trying and we want him to do more in this line that he is going, let nothing distract him. Anytime, any day we are with him 100 per cent.”

Nature Dumale Kieghe, the pioneer secretary of the First Phase Ex-agitators in the Niger Delta, who also spoke said:  “Among ex-agitators in the Niger Delta, over time we have been classified as the most responsible, as touching the way we do our things and presentations in different fora.

“We have vowed that we will not bring down any of our own, we took that decision a long time ago, when Kingsley Kuko was special adviser to the president on amnesty. Now we have another administrator, in the person of Dr Dennis Otuaro, who is also our won.”

  • Edo’ll SHINE again under Okpebholo’s watch

Edo’ll SHINE again under Okpebholo’s watch

    • By John Mayaki

On November 12, 2024, Edo state turned a new page – that was the day Senator Monday Okpebholo was sworn in as Governor. It effectively ended an era defined by empty sloganeering and misplaced priorities and the beginning of one grounded in real leadership, action, and results.

Unlike his predecessor’s Make Edo Great Again (MEGA) – a cheap knock off of Trump’s MAGA, which ultimately succeeded only in “Making Edo Grounded Again” – Okpebholo’s administration is focused on undoing the damage of the past eight years while setting new standards for governance.

For nearly a decade, Edo’s development was stifled under a leader who prioritised battling political enemies over serving the people. Of course, resources were mismanaged, infrastructure crumbled, and governance became more about personal vendettas then meaningful progress. The state was in the news for all the wrong reasons – economic stagnation, political repression, and policies that looked good on paper but failed miserably in execution.

Now, there is a breath of fresh air – Governor Okpebholo has launched his five-point agenda, Project SHINE – a comprehensive plan to address the Security. Health, Infrastructure, Nutrition (Agriculture), and Education deficits in the state. Again, unlike the failed promises of the past administration, this is not a publicity stunt but a well-reasoned, action-driven strategy designed to restore the lost glory of our Dear state and place her on a trajectory of sustainable development.

Now, let us consider one of the most damaging legacies of the last administration – its reckless attitude to security. Instead of strengthening law enforcement and investing in community safety, armed ragtag groups, thugs and political mercenaries whose primary job was to terrorise political opponents and suppress dissent took over  Rather than securing our communities,  there were sponsored unrests,  fueling an atmosphere of fear, and turning security into a tool of oppression.

The results, of course, were catastrophic. Kidnappings among Benin-Auchi Road, the Owan axis, and even inside Benin city became rampant, with criminals operating freely while law-abiding citizens lived in fear. The economy of the state also suffered as investors fled and businesses struggled under the weight of insecurity

Governor Okpebholo has made it very clear that such lawlessness will no longer be tolerated. His administration is refocusing security efforts on protecting citizens rather then politicians through Project SHINE.

The administration is investing significantly in modern policing techniques, strengthen intelligence gathering, and improve collaboration between law enforcement and communities, ensuring that Edo becomes a safe place to live and do business.

Okpebholo’s government is also working closely with local vigilantes, traditional rulers, and security agencies to create an effective security framework that truly serves the people and ensures that crime is both discouraged and swiftly prosecuted for deterrence.

When it comes to health, don’t forget that for years, the healthcare system in Edo state suffered under neglect. Public hospitals were in ruins, medical professionals were underpaid, and patients were forced to provide their own basic supplies before receiving treatment. The previous administration made token efforts, commissioning empty buildings while ignoring the decaying hospitals already in existence.

At the Central Hospital in Benin, for example, patients were often turned away due to a lack of basic drugs, equipment, and personnel. In smaller towns, clinics either didn’t exist or lacked doctors. As a result, many Edo residents had to travel to neighboring states just to get proper medical care.

Okpebholo’s approach is different. His administration is prioritizing the renovation of hospitals, equipping them with modern medical facilities, and recruiting qualified personnel. More than just fixing buildings, he is also ensuring that doctors and nurses are well-paid and properly trained so that Edo’s healthcare system is not just functional but world-class.

Additionally, his administration is placing emphasis on preventive healthcare, making sure that immunization drives, maternal health programs, and disease prevention campaigns receive proper funding and implementation. No longer will the state’s healthcare be about mere survival – it will be about ensuring quality and accessibility for all.

Okpebholo’s agenda for infrastructure is clear – under the past administration, Roads in Edo state became death traps, public utilities crumbled, and markets deteriorated. Many major roads in Benin City, Auchi, Ekpoma, and Uromi were left in a state of disrepair, making transportation difficult and increasing accidents and vehicle maintenance costs for residents.

Okpebholo’s approach is practical and strategic. His government has identified critical roads that need urgent repairs to improve transportation and commerce.

His administration is also focusing on flood control in areas like Uselu, Ogiso, and Igbinedion Street in Benin, where poor drainage has worsened living conditions. Instead of politically motivated contracts that go nowhere, his infrastructure development plan is based on real needs, expert assessments, and proper execution.

In less than 100 days in office, Governor Okpebholo flagged off the construction of the Ramat Park Flyover Bridge, a long-overdue project set to ease traffic congestion and improve movement in Benin City.

Unlike the previous administration, which was heavy on talk but slow on action, Okpebholo demonstrated his willingness to travel in a different direction and move swiftly to address a critical infrastructure gap.

The flyover will make daily commuting smoother, reduce travel time for businesses and residents, and create jobs for engineers, construction workers, and suppliers.

This simply tells of the governor’s commitment to practical solutions, timely execution, and governance that directly improves the lives of Edo people.

In the SHINE agenda, you have nutrition – that is to say agriculture. Don’t forget that Edo state is an agriculturally rich state, but under the last administration, farming suffered due to broken promises and failed policies. One of the most notable failures was the Agripreneur Program, which was hyped as a revolutionary project that would create millionaire farmers but quietly died without a trace. Farmers were promised access to funding, modern equipment, and government-backed support, but in reality, they were left stranded with no tangible benefits.

Okpebholo’s government is taking a more serious and structured approach. His administration is revitalizing agriculture by providing real access to credit, introducing mechanized farming techniques, and investing in agro-processing.

The administration has ready plans to revive large-scale existing farmlands in the state and also cultivate new ones. He will not relent on oil palm, cassava, pineapple farming, cocoa, and rice farming, while ensuring that Edo people benefit from government investments. With PROJECT SHINE, the administration is making sure that agriculture moves from just a subsistence activity to becoming a real driver of economic growth.

And for education, which is the last agenda on the project SHINE, Okpebholo is taking a different route from his predecessor.

The previous administration boasted about its EdoBest program, selling it as a model for educational reform. But in reality, it was little more than a tool for attracting donor funds rather than an actual solution to Edo’s education crisis.

Schools lacked proper infrastructure, teachers were overwhelmed with excessive workloads, and arbitrary cuts to subventions left many institutions struggling to function. At the primary level, there was no serious effort to improve enrollment, leading to a growing number of out-of-school children.

Governor Okpebholo is addressing these issues head-on. His administration has increased education funding, prioritized teacher recruitment and training, and invested in renovating dilapidated schools. No longer will Edo’s children learn under trees or in overcrowded, unsafe classrooms. His policies under PROJECT SHINE are focused on real impact, not mere optics.

The idea around the narrative of PROJECT SHINE simply sets Okpebholo apart is his focus on substance over political drama. While the previous administration wasted time fighting imaginary enemies and enforcing political tyranny, Okpebholo’s government is laser-focused on development and progress.

He has presented a roadmap for rebuilding Edo State – a plan that prioritizes security, good healthcare, modern infrastructure, a thriving agricultural sector, and quality education. Most importantly, it is a plan that puts the people first.

For the first time in years, Edo people can see real governance in action – a government that is about results, not rhetoric. It is clear that under Okpebholo’s watch, Edo will truly shine again.

Akpabioism ambassadors, South – South Youths condemn Natasha’s allegation

Akpabioism Ambassadors Worldwide (AAW) and the Southern Youths Development Forum (SYDY) have dismissed the allegation by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio describing it as an attempt to tarnish his reputation.

The groups, in a joint press statement in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital said the allegation was politically motivated.

The statement signed by Pastor Bassey James, Engr. Abiod Adegalu, Emeka Obielom and other members of the groups stated that, “Senator Natasha’s allegation is a political joke taken too far.

“This joke is like a tale by the moonlight and a drama, whose actors are confused in their presentation.

“The Senate President’s houses in Uyo and Ukana are always crowded with people, including security personnel. And to make the drama laughable, her husband was always following them around even to the Chapel.

“Those script writers failed and the politics behind it has collapsed because Nigerians already know the truth.

“We have followed with keen  interest the continued attacks on Senator Godswill Akpabio from the moment he became Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; a position which was last occupied by late Senator Joseph Wayas from the Souths – South many decades ago.

“This office has never been occupied by Akwa Ibom person. We want to say that those playing the political drums should note that Akwa bom people, the South South, Niger Deltans, South East and South West are solidly behind the Senate President, and would not buy into the drama by Natasha and her co – conspirators.

“Akpabio is a national asset, a detribalised Nigerian whose actions have touched all ethnic and religious groups. Even as then Governor of Akwa Ibom State, he built bridges of national unity across the country and beyond”, the statement added.

The groups however appealed the Niger Delta should be accorded its right of place in the political equation of the country considering the economic and natural endowments it contributes to the center and beyond.

The fora thanked  President Bola Tinubu and other leaders for their continued support to the Senate President and affirmed their commitment to the realization of 2027 presidency of President Tinubu, through mobilizing of other Nigerians in the North to build a sustainable support base for Mr. President.

“We are supporting Mr President till 2027; those who are bent in causing confusion in the National Assembly should desist from fanning embers of hatred and disunity.

The groups further stated: “Senator Natasha- Akpoti should apologize to the Senators for disrespecting constituted authorities, and embarrassing the nation”.

  • Omo-Agege: Delta PDP-led governments abandoned Burutu, Bomadi for over 25 years

Omo-Agege: Delta PDP-led governments abandoned Burutu, Bomadi for over 25 years

Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has condemned the persistent neglect and underdevelopment of Burutu and Bomadi Local Government Areas by successive PDP-led administrations in Delta State.

He emphasised that despite the significant economic contributions of these oil-producing areas, the state government has failed to improve their infrastructure and overall living conditions.

Omo-Agege, the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, expressed deep concern over the deplorable state of roads and the general lack of development in the two local government areas.

He lamented that after 25 years of PDP rule, there has been little to no progress in these areas, leaving the people in hardship despite their wealth of natural resources and contributions to Delta  State’s treasury.

At the APC interactive leaders and stakeholders’ meeting in Delta South Senatorial District at Torugbene in Burutu LGA and St. Paul’s Catholic Church Hall, Bomadi, Senator Omo-Agege recounted how his party’s victory in the two local government areas were stolen through electoral manipulation.

Citing INEC’s official results, he noted that the APC secured 48% of the votes in Burutu, despite the PDP’s perpetution of  irregularities to rig the election.

Omo-Agege praised the resilience and determination of the people, particularly the youth and women, who played a crucial role in limiting the scale of rigging in the two local government areas.

Omo-Agege raised pressing concerns about the state government’s failure to provide basic infrastructure in Burutu and Bomadi.

He described his journey from Warri to Burutu as frustratingly slow due to the horrendous condition of the roads, questioning why a region that contributes significantly to the state economy remains neglected.

“For decades, Burutu and Bomadi have been major economic contributors to Delta State’s wealth. Yet, there is little to show for it in terms of development,” Omo-Agege said.

He pointed out that while the PDP controlled Delta South’s Senate seat, the House of Representatives seat, and the two-state assembly seats for 24 years, successive governments have continuously failed to invest in these local governments.

Omo-Agege noted that the Delta State government often cites the construction of flyovers in Warri as a defense against criticisms of underdevelopment.

However, he pointed out that these flyovers, being built by Julius Berger, were part of his campaign promises. Omo-Agege questioned the inflated cost of the projects, highlighting that Rivers State had built 11 flyovers for ₦80 billion, whereas Delta State is spending ₦85 billion on just three.

He added that the cost is likely to increase further due to anticipated variations, emphasizing that the project should not have been so expensive.

Furthermore, Omo-Agege challenged the government to explain why, despite receiving over ₦1 trillion in FAAC allocations since May 2023, it has failed to construct a simple 20km road connecting Burutu to Bomadi.

Omo-Agege urged the people of the two Local Government Areas to demand accountability from the state government.

He stressed that political affiliation should not come before community welfare and insisted that the people of Burutu and Bomadi have the right to question how their wealth is being used.

He assured them that if voted into power in 2027, APC would ensure that the Ijaw and Itsekiri people receive their fair share of development. “For too long, these nationalities have only been given political appointments without tangible improvements in their infrastructure and living conditions. This will change if APC is voted into power in 2027”

He insisted that appointments are not a substitute for real development and vowed to continue advocating for the infrastructure and economic empowerment that Burutu and Bomadi rightfully deserve.

Omo-Agege also reminded the people that the fight for development is not over. “The contributions of these local governments to Delta State and Nigeria as a whole must be recognized with meaningful investments, not just empty promises. Until that happens,” he vowed to continue holding those in power accountable for the continued neglect of Burutu and Bomadi.

He called for a more transparent local content policy in the oil and gas sector, ensuring local contractors benefit from procurement activities.

“We must diversify our economy beyond a civil service structure into mining, oil and gas, and a vibrant SME sector,” he stated.

Discussions also focused on education, with stakeholders calling for better funding, recruitment of qualified teachers, and a review of the EdoBEST program.

Discussions on healthcare emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding free malaria treatment and improving access to primary healthcare. Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, Commissioner for Health, urged state officials to patronize public hospitals to boost confidence in the sector. “Leadership by example is key to strengthening our healthcare system,” he said.

The event also addressed food security, with stakeholders praising the revival of the Igarra Cattle Ranch and increased agricultural investments. However, concerns were raised over farmer-herder conflicts, with calls for decisive action to resolve disputes.

Policy House International’s Executive Director, Taiwo Akerele, described the dialogue as a vital step in strengthening governance and accountability. “Edo State has the potential to be among Nigeria’s top five economies in the next five years, but bold policy choices are needed,” he stated.
