66th birthday: Osinbajo donates materials to FCT orphanages

Members of staff of the Office of the Vice President yesterday visited some orphanages in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to mark Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s 66th birthday.

Osinbajo, who was born on March 8, 1957, turned 66 on Wednesday.

The orphanages visited are the FCT Unity Children’s Home, Gwarko Gwagwalada, and the Abuja Children’s Home, Karu.

The members of staff were led by Mr Ade Ipaye, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President and Aso Villa Chaplain, Pastor Seyi Malomo.

Items donated included bags of rice, bags of salt, cartons of noodles, condiments, packs of soft drinks and food, packs of detergents, blankets and groceries.

The interaction with the children featured quiz competitions and book readings after which prizes were given to pupils that got correct answers.

The children also sang birthday songs and prayed for the vice president, while wishing him well in his future endeavours.

Speaking with State House correspondents, Ipaye said it had become a tradition in the Office of the Vice President to visit orphanages on the vice president’s birthday.

“On his birthday in 2015, 2016, when he said instead of getting me presents or giving me anything of the sort, let us put all the money together.

“I think that was his 60th and that has gone into starting a school for internally displaced children in Maiduguri where he is right now.

“Then, among the staff, we thought okay, we can’t look for money to buy presents for him rather on his behalf, we will support the orphanages; so we have been doing that annually.

“What we do is get money together among ourselves; ask the orphanages what they need and we procure those materials and come to present them on his birthday which we are doing right now,’’ he said.

On her part, Mrs Janet Ogah, Administrator, FCT Unity Children’s Home, said everybody was excited and grateful over the vice president’s gesture.

She described the vice president as a wonderful and loving father.

“The FCT Unity Children’s Home is saying thank you very much; and we will live to remember this day; he is a good daddy; he is a loving father. Everybody is excited and happy and we are saying, thank you daddy.  May the Lord grant you with good health, long life and prosperity,” she said.

  • Tinubu’s victory divine, says T4PAG Worldwide

Tinubu’s victory divine, says T4PAG Worldwide

A leading support group for the presidential project of President-elect Bola Tinubu, the Tinubu for President Action Group (T4PAG) Worldwide, has described the victory of its candidate at the polls as God’s way of delivering Nigeria from its numerous challenges.

The group, in a congratulatory message to the President-elect , by its Chairman/Convener, Prince ‘Lanre Adegun, noted that Nigerians could not have found a better choice to lead the country out of the current dire straits being faced.

Congratulating Tinubu for emerging victorious, the T4PAG Worldwide, which is spread across all the states and across the continents, said the experience gathered over the years by the President-elect will now become most useful in the task of setting the country straight.

“We never at any moment became distrustful about your capability, capacity, and readiness to take up the mantle of leadership here and now when the country is in multiple challenges. We could not find an alternative person to consider for the highest job in the land. You were, and still, Nigeria’s only candidate and the only option to salvage Nigeria from her current dire straits.

“We all saw this coming. It is not news that you were returned as the democratically voted president-elect. It is a long-deserved honour for someone who has been tried and tested in a similar but smaller terrain. We all know – including your political rivals, – that you are a true Nigerian without any barrier, the most prepared, and well-equipped to step into these bigger shoes for the job without intimidation or fear.”

“Your unique approach to governance, coupled with your record of strong leadership in difficult times, is flawless. A good example was during the time Lagos State’s Local Government fund allocations were stopped by the government under former President Olusegun Obasanjo”, he added.

Chairman of the support group, Prince Adegun, thanked his Asiwaju ‘die-hards’ in T4PAG globally; the indefatigable, and enviable group spread all over the world, for their unflinching support financially and largely for their pig-headedness and unrelenting belief in Asiwaju as ‘the best and only option here and now’.

“I say a special ‘thank you’ to our Executive members including all the Coordinators within and outwith Nigeria, and all our members for their awesome assistance. It was a unity of purpose at work. I salute you.
“There was a time we thought we could not survive financially, but our members dug deep into their savings to voluntarily provide the necessary funds needed to keep us afloat as funds never came from anywhere else. You have all made me proud. Thank you for keeping your eyes on the ball.

“Asiwaju is a master strategist, a bridge-builder, and a talent hunter who believes in human capital resources development, teamwork, and inclusive democracy. I can tell you for free that he will deliver on his promises as stipulated in the Party’s manifesto and campaign promises, and more.
“We are not done yet as a group; so, watch this space. We wish our President-elect well. So help him God,” he added.

Prince ‘Lanre Adegun’s support for the President-elect stretches beyond his own support group, as he is also the Director-General for Progressives Solidarity for Asiwaju (PSA), and Director, Media and Publicity for Nigeria Diaspora for Asiwaju (NDA).

  • A final message for AbdulRazaq’s re-election

    A final message for AbdulRazaq’s re-election

    By Is’haq Modibbo Kawu

On Saturday, March 4th, 2023, I set out reasons why I believe that AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq deserves a second term, as Governor of Kwara State. In that piece, titled “AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq: Consolidating Progressive Governance in Kwara State”, I made it clear that the historical conjuncture that brought AbdulRahman to power in 2019, was one that was defined by the total rejection of the absurdities associated with the 16-year State Capture excesses of Bukola Saraki and his minions. The victory was so emphatic that all and sundry knew that we had dealt a fatal blow to impunity and arrogance in a manner, that wiped the slate of the 40-year hegemony of a single family, forever, in our state. The reclamation of our state was also the commencement of governance that was responsive, responsible, and people-oriented.

In the days after my piece was distributed, I’ve received very interesting responses from very many readers. What was heartwarming was that the overwhelming numbers of correspondence were very positive. People from all parts of our state had interesting testimonies to offer on the positive impact of governance in their lives since 2019. I was not surprised, though. I consciously monitored different areas of endeavour of development in our three senatorial zones, and I am satisfied that AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has lived up to the pledges made, to faithfully serve our people. I’m particularly delighted about the manner in which the administration touched some of the most disadvantaged communities in the most outlying areas of Kwara State.

Over the past few days, various individuals, associations, community groups, and respected traditional rulers in all parts of the state have openly endorsed a second term for our governor. It is also noteworthy, that some of the people thst left the APC for opposition platforms, are returning to the folding and are effusively, pronouncing their support for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s re-election. These endorsements speak to the confidence that’s been generated as a result of the good work done by AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and his administration. The people, from all walks of life, are speaking out their minds, without ambiguity.

I am hopeful that these endorsements would translate into massive votes on Saturday because the people are confident that the administration has done enough to earn the trust of a second term. The enthusiasm has extended to the reception that various house-to-house teams have received in communities, on behalf of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. When people see and feel the honesty of approach in governance, they also respond with an equal measure of understanding. No government can do everything that the people desire in four years; but in four years, a lot can be achieved to secure the trust of people. That’s what’s going for AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in Kwara State.

There are two related points that I think we must make that are interconnected to the elections coming on Saturday, March 11th. The first is that we have given our votes to the APC in the last presidential election. We voted Tinubu-Shettima as president and vice president. It is, therefore, the logical extension to return AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for a second term. That would offer the platform of strong synergy between the federal and state administrations for the overall benefit of the people of Kwara State.

The second point is to banish forever, the possibility of a return to the regime of state capture, which was instituted in our state from 2003 to 2019. We must NEVER ever contemplate a return to the arrogant regime of personalised dictatorship of an individual and of a family. That’s the essence of their desperate desire. And it is the reason they’re spending huge sums in an abortive desire to buy people’s loyalty, on the one hand; and on the other, they’ve spent many hours in the wild goose chase of attempting to cobble together, an alliance of sure-bet losers, who they are coaxing to step down for the PDP candidate. They remain deluded that Kwara State and its financial resources are their family heirloom.

Similarly, we cannot allow state power in the hands of a disgruntled band of politicos, who lost out only because of an inability to deeply appreciate what the new situation, after our decisive victory in 2019, demanded of all those who made a contribution. They arrogated to themselves alone the victory that was actually a collective endeavour, and some of the arrowheads deployed so much arrogance in their conduct and relationship with the governor. These individuals chose to camp on the wrong side of the historical currents in Kwara State.

Given this background, what is most imperative, in my view, is to give AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq a second term in office. That’s what the overwhelming majority of our people desire at this time. They’re satisfied that we can do much better if we consolidate what’s been achieved in the past four years. I take the side of our people and therefore respectfully request an encore for our governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. Four more years of progress is the best way to go to Kwara State. I’m appealing to my fellow Kwarans; please, let’s vote right on Saturday, March 11th, 2023. Let’s vote the APC and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for a second term of office.

  • ‘Give North Central Reps’ Speaker’

    ‘Give North Central Reps’ Speaker’

Ahead of the composition of the 10th National Assembly in June, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Stakeholders Forum, North Central has appealed to the party and the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to zone the position of the Speaker of the House of Representatives to the region.

The forum at a briefing in Abuja yesterday said the geo-political zone deserves that exalted office given their contributions to the electoral victory of the party and the President-elect against all odds and intimidations.

Leader of the forum, Reverend Dominic Alancha, said the performance of the party in the north-central region in the Presidential election was a testament to the fact that the region remains the swing zone stressing that any party that the zone flips to is primed to always win the election.

“It is on record that since 2015, 2019 and now in 2023 respectively the north-central has been flipping APC for victory. Indeed, our region has remained faithful to the ideals of the APC for a good course.”

  • Kano: ‘We’ll not allow NNPP perpetrate violence’

Kano: ‘We’ll not allow NNPP perpetrate violence’

The All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration in Kano State has vowed to check any attempt by the opposition to rig the March 11 Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.

The government said this in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Malam Muhammad Garba, in Kano yesterday.

He said the government was compelled to bring the plan to the attention of the public, “because this could disrupt the governorship and House of Assembly elections to its favour”.

He further stated that the government has received credible information on how thugs will be hired from villages in Kano and beyond to upset the electoral process through violence, massive rigging, box snatching and arson.

Garba recalled that in 2019, the opposition managed a well organised election rigging network, particularly in the metropolitan local governments, where youths, mostly without voter cards, were engaged to perpetrate the act.

The commissioner alleged that this time around, the opposition was planning to bring chaos through the use of thugs to cause mayhem with a view to dispersing voters at polling units in order to have the opportunity to rig the elections and subvert the will of the people.

He further alleged that the statement issued by the opposition in the state was just playing the victim card, but had perfected their nefarious plans to ensure that they disrupt the electoral process and deploy maximum violence.
