    2027: Return to APC, TNN urges Kwankwaso

    A group of Nigerian professionals at home and in the diaspora under the aegis of Tinubu Nigeria Network (TNN) has urged former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

    The group believes Kwankwaso should be part of efforts to rebuild the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

    In a statement by its Director General, Hon. Ayokunle Olusola, TNN described Kwankwaso as a distinguished public servant, whose tenure as governor, Senator and Minister of Defence remains a model of progressive leadership.

    “As a group that is committed to the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it is on record that Dr.  Kwankwaso is one of the founding fathers of the APC and his transformative policies, particularly in education and youth development, have left a lasting legacy in Kano and beyond.

    “As one of the founding members of the APC and a committed progressive, we believe the time is ripe for Dr. Kwankwaso to reunite with the party and align with President Tinubu’s visionary leadership for a new Nigeria. 

    “His experience, national appeal, and political network remain critical to our nation’s democratic and developmental advancement.

    “We are confident that his return will energise the party, strengthen unity, and potentially bring with him key stakeholders and elected officials, including the Governor of Kano State.

    “Your Excellency, the APC is your home. The doors are open.

    NISO moves to become proactive with digitisation

    The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) on Wednesday unveiled its logo, mission, and core values with a vow to become proactive with digitisation and automation initiatives instead of being reactive.

    Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Abuja, the Managing Director, Abdu Mohammed, revealed that the organisation has started the digitisation and automation initiative in partnership with global technology leaders, Huawei.

    He said, “We have commenced the Digitisation and Automation Initiative, in partnership with global technology leaders, Huawei.

    “This will give us real-time system visibility, smart data analytics, and modern SCADA/EMS infrastructure. Let me put it simply: this is the kind of progress that turns institutions from reactive to proactive.”

    He said NISO has already started changing the tone by engaging stakeholders with a fresh posture.

    Mohammed said, “Already, the tone is changing. We are engaging stakeholders with a fresh posture. We are no longer an appendage, we are a principal actor, and we now sit at the table with the authority of our mandate and the clarity of our purpose.”

    He revealed the plans to deepen NISO participation with partners as the West African Power Pool, to contribute allies in regional electricity planning.

    He said the organisation has inspected the SCADA/EMS.

    “Our site engagements, especially recently, of the SCDA/EMS project and the level of completion with site inspections of Gwagwalada and Katampe substations reflect a management team that is not content with boardroom assumptions; we go and see for ourselves,” he said.

    Mohammed said the unveiling was more than just a design to be displayed on NISO’s tangible assets.

    According to him, the ceremony marked a deeper alignment between NISO’s identity, mandate, and moment in Nigeria’s electricity history.

    He said NISO did not emerge from thin air because it was born out of reform mandated by law and driven by a national imperative for transparency, neutrality, and reliability in grid operations and electricity market coordination.

    He recalled that the Electricity Act 2023, which repealed the Electric Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) of 2005, did not just change the rules; it changed the structure.

    Mohammed added that in that structure, NERC took a bold and necessary step to ring-fence the ISO functions from TCN and birth a fully independent system operator with a name, a face, and a mission of its own.

    The Managing Director said NISO means that its workforce coordinates the grid with bias, fear or favour.

    His words, “Now, what does it mean to be truly independent?

    It means we coordinate the grid without bias. We make market decisions without fear or favour. It means we plan for the future, not just respond to emergencies.”

    The NISO boss said the means to serve the service providers in the value chain professionally and transparently.

     “It means we exist to serve all participants in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry; DisCos, GenCos, eligible customers and other market participants fairly, professionally and transparently. That is what this new brand stands for,” he said.

    Bauchi government woo investors kick kick-starts roadshow

    The deputy governor of Bauchi state, Mohamed Auwal Jatau, has urged both local and international investors to consider moving to the state, assuring that security is strong and there have been no internal or external conflicts or disturbances threatening the peace of the state.

    Jatau made this appeal at the Bauchi state economic and investment roadshow summit in Abuja, themed “rebuilding a resilient economy.”

    The objectives include planning for investment, optimising investment, and fostering partnerships, all aimed at bringing together key stakeholders from across domestic and international communities.

    According to Jatau, the summit will take place in October 2025 in Bauchi state.

    The roadshow aims to raise awareness nationwide to attract investors. The state development plan for 2024-2033 aligns with the national development agenda and the sustainable development goals of the state.

    He said, “It has become imperative for the state government to leverage on the abundance of resources in agriculture, livestock, mineral resources, oil and gas and its large capital base by inviting investors, knowing that harnessing these resources will be beneficial to all foreign and local investors and the country in general.

    “The Bauchi state government has embarked on a lot of projects, like expanding the road network, providing access roads to the communities with the basic social services required. This is to create a trajectory of sustainable development and prosperity for the state and the country at large. Which is why we are planning to hold the Bauchi state summit.

    “The summit is to showcase investment opportunities through exhibitions. To promote the growth of SMEs in the state and ensure facilitations to market through partnership. To foster communication by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, MOU and creation of joint ventures.

    Speaking with the organiser of the roadshow, Hajia Ladi Katagum, she said the roadshow will take place in three states, Abuja, Enugu and Lagos.

    The idea is to draw attention to the state with all its potential. “Investment in Bauchi is safe because presently it is one of the safest states in the country”.

    The state is safe because the government and the people have been proactive on security issues, and the people are very involved in protecting lives and property. This is the reason for the peace and quiet in the state. Bauchi has a lot of mineral resources, including oil and agriculture. We need the world to know that we have untapped resources in Bauchi; there, investors from far and near are welcome.

    Protesters sustain daily siit-out at CCB, ICPC over NMDPRA boss

    Protesters have maintained their daily sit-out at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) offices for the eighth day, demanding  prosecution of Engr. Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

    The protesters alleged that Farouk Ahmed diverted public funds. 

    One of his sons was also allegedly recruited into an oil firm under the regulatory jurisdiction of NMDPRA, raising concerns about undue influence and nepotism.

    The protesters are also concerned about Ahmed’s leadership, which they claim has been marked by regulatory compromise, particularly in the issuance of permits for the importation of diesel with high sulphur content, harmful to the environment and public health.

    Dr. Emmanuel Agibi and Olayemi Isaac, convener of the protest, expressed concerns about the allegations, stating, “The allegations against Engr. Farouk Ahmed are serious and demand immediate action.

    “We won’t let him continue to abuse his office and undermine the integrity of the NMDPRA. The protesters won’t back down until Engr. Farouk Ahmed is brought to justice.

    “We’ll continue to occupy the CCB and ICPC offices until our demands are met.”

    “If the Attorney General, ICPC, or CCB refuses to act, then they are complicit in the cover-up of a scandal that disgraces every law-abiding Nigerian.”

    “The allegations point to a collapse of accountability in public governance. If the Petroleum Industry Act is to mean anything, those enforcing it must be held to the highest standards,” they stated.

    The protesters demand that the authorities initiate a thorough investigation into the allegations against Ahmed, set up a special investigative panel to examine all financial records, investigate all permits granted under his leadership and take appropriate actions based on the findings of the investigation.

    95 Kano youths sponsored by the AA Zaura Foundation have completed the Digital Entrepreneurship for Nigerian Youth Programme, with specialty in Digital Entrepreneurship and Agricultural Value Chain Production.

    The beneficiaries schooled at the University of Sunderland and the London Academy Business School.

    Speaking at the graduation ceremony, held at Tahir Guest Palace, Kano, the President of the Foundation, Alh. AA Zaura, said the graduands have been trained not only to grow food but to grow ideas, using digital tools to scale productivity.

    “They are also to apply entrepreneurial thinking to solve real-world challenges, and to lead the transformation of agriculture from soil to screen, and from Kano to Nigeria, Africa and to the global marketplace,” AA Zaura said.

    Zaura, while congratulating the graduates, noted that they have not only completed the programme, but they have embraced a future that is digital, productive, and full of limitless possibilities.

    Zaura said: “It is with great honour, deep pride, and a profound sense of responsibility that we celebrate the successful graduation of 95 extraordinary young men and women from Kano who have completed the Digital Entrepreneurship for Nigerian Youth Programme, with a special focus on Digital Enterprenueshiip and Agricultural Value Chain Production.

    “Today’s ceremony is not merely about awarding Diplomas in Digital Entrepreneurship, it is about marking the beginning of a new era. An era where Kano youth no longer wait for opportunities to come to them, but one where they can create the opportunities.

    “It is an era where agriculture is no longer seen as subsistence, but one where it has become a technologically powered engine of innovation, enterprise, and wealth creation.

    “You are the heartbeat of a changing Nigeria, particularly Kano State. You came into this programme with curiosity and perhaps uncertainty, but you are leaving now with competence, confidence, skills and a clear direction.

    “Armed with knowledge, you now possess what few in Kano State have, a global-standard Diploma in Digital Entrepreneurship, which has been adapted for local impact in our most strategic sector: digital Entrepreneurship and agricultural value chain production.”

    The ponsor appreciated the Foundation’s partners from the University of Sunderland and the London Academy Business School, saying their commitment to co-creating the initiative and investing in the capacity of African youths is commendable.

    As part of its drive for broader national impact through renewable energy, the Director-General and CEO of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, on Monday received Kogi Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

    The Governor arrived at approximately 1:05 pm with his entourage and was warmly received by Dr. Abdullahi and senior ECN officials.

    Discussions focused on energy innovation and implementing policies at thestate and federal levels to improve the lives of Nigerians.

    Abdullahi briefed the Governor on ECN’s mandate and the National Energy Master Plan, a roadmap for clean energy transition.

    He also acknowledged President Tinubu’s support, particularly the approval of the Renewed Hope Solarisation Project, which will install solar-powered streetlights in institutions across all 36 States.

    He also commended Tinubu for empowering young Nigerians through inclusive policies.

    Abdullahi thanked Governor Ododo for the visit and reaffirmed ECN’s commitment to achieving 30% off-grid energy coverage across Nigeria within the shortest possible timeframe, leveraging the Renewed Hope Solarization Initiative.

    Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Terlumun Utsev, has expressed satisfaction that the Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING) Project has transformed vulnerable groups, particularly those made up of women, girls and youths.

    The minister stated this at a workshop on Dissemination of Gender Mainstreaming and Gender Based Violence Success Stories under TRIMING, held at Bristol Palace Hotel, Kano.

    Prof. Utsev, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Mr Richard Pheelangwah, said the occasion was to celebrate the progress made in gender mainstreaming and the prevention of gender-based violence within the TRIMING intervention schemes.

    The occasion was also to reflect on the journey that transformed the target groups within their respective communities and the lessons so far learnt, to move forward, he said.

    TRIMING Project was initiated to improve the performance of irrigation systems and strengthen institutional arrangements for integrated water resources management and agriculture.

    Utsev said the project is highly transformative considering the inclusion of gender and social safeguards as key components to the project development agenda.

    “This made it necessary for infrastructure development projects to include the social dynamics to create access, control, and benefits to the target communities and groups.

    “The achievements being celebrated today are not mere formalities, but testimonies that have transformed communities through the support of critical stakeholders,” he said, commending the World Bank for its technical and financial support towards the actualisation of the initiatives.

    Responding on the testaments and shared lessons, the minister praised President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for providing the needed platform and resources to implement numerous initiatives under the Renewed Hope Agenda, which he explained, are aimed at boosting food production and reducing the poverty rate across the country.

    According to Prof. Utsev, some of the president’s programmes in this regard, include the reestablishment of the agricultural sector, support for smallholder farmers, expansion of dry season farming to maximise year-round productivity and mechanisation of agriculture to reduce labour intensity and increase efficiency.

    Other programmes, he said, include rehabilitation of irrigation facilities, as well as youth and women engagement, through greenhouse cultivation, among others.

    Meanwhile, Utsev highlighted the successes recorded to include: Institutionalization of Gender-Based Violence Response; Women’s Leadership in Water Users Association (WUAs); Women’s Empowerment in Irrigation Management; Capacity Building and Behavioral Change; Cultural and Social Norm Shift; and Partnerships with Women-Led and Grassroots Organizations, etc.

    “​For everyone present today, who has followed the trend of progress recorded under the TRIMING project, will surely attest to how it has transformed the position of these target groups across the participating States from being vulnerable to viable status that recognises women, girls, youth, and other disadvantaged groups as critical actors in the agricultural and water management ecosystems,” Utsev said.

    Deputy Director Irrigation, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr Hauwa Muhammed Sadique, who represented the permanent secretary of the ministry, said from the conceptualisation and implementation of the TRIMING Project, gender equality, prevention of Gender-Based Violence, and social inclusion were recognised as essential cross-cutting pillars for the success and sustainability of irrigation infrastructure and agricultural development.

    Former presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo, a former Governor of Kwara state, describing him as an exceptional statesman and a beacon of principled leadership in Nigeria.

    In a statement issued on Friday, Olawepo-Hashim said the late Adebayo was more than a political figure; he was a man of “impeccable integrity, an intellectual, and a political pathfinder” whose life and legacy continue to inspire generations.

    “Chief Adebayo stood for values, ideas, and service. His principled approach to politics and unwavering commitment to justice and good governance set him apart,” he added.

    “I recall with deep personal reflection that my very first political engagement was in support of his gubernatorial bid in 1983.

     “That formative experience ignited in me a lifelong commitment to politics founded on values, service, and courage.”

    He added, “Beyond his contributions to Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole, Chief Adebayo played a critical role in shaping the political direction and leadership consciousness of the North Central zone and the Middle Belt.

    “He understood the unique identity, challenges, and potential of our region and worked tirelessly to chart a course for its political relevance and development within the broader Nigerian federation.”

     “His life was a reminder that politics can indeed be grounded in decency, intellect, and service to humanity.

    “His passing is a monumental loss, not only to his family and the people of Kwara State but also to the entire North Central, the Middle Belt, and Nigeria at large.”

    Dr. Hashim added that “his ideals live on, and his legacy will continue to guide us as we strive to build a more just, united, and prosperous nation.

    “On behalf of my family, friends, and political associates, I extend my deepest condolences to the Adebayo family, the government and people of Kwara State, and all those who mourn this irreparable loss.”

    He concluded by praying that “may God grant us the wisdom to sustain the noble ideals he lived for.”

    My Dear Bukola,

    I just read your write up. Initially I didn’t want to glorify you with any response but I felt it may be appropriate for me to educate you about my rights and of course every Nigeria on freedom of speech and expression.

    I am a founding member of APC, a Senator and a Nigerian. I have the right to criticize the President’s policies especially when it affects the well being of the citizens of Nigerians that elected him and even those that did not elect him.

    One thing you can be sure of is that I will never shy away from speaking the truth to power even if I am alone. I have never and will never insult the president or anyone else because of my differences of opinion. Finally let me quote this from one of the greatest American presidents.

    Kogi ACReSAL project: Commissioner lauds progress during site inspection in Okene, Ankpa, Kabba

    The Kogi State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project recently embarked on a three-day inspection tour of various project sites across the state. 

    The inspection was led by the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management, Oluwasegun Joseph, who also chairs the State Steering Committee (SSC).

    The team, which included members of both the SSC and the State Technical Committee (STC), visited several intervention sites, including water harvesting facilities, Climate Resilient Farming (CRF) sites, and agro-forestry locations in Okene, Ankpa, and Kabba Local Government Areas.

    Commending the quality and pace of work observed, Joseph praised the project’s strict compliance with set standards. 

    He expressed satisfaction with the level of development, particularly at the gully erosion control sites, and reiterated the government’s commitment to improving community livelihoods through the ACReSAL initiative.

    “The State Government is dedicated to improving the lives of our people, and this project is a testament to that commitment,” he stated.

    Also speaking during the inspection, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Co-Chairman of the SSC, Engr. Faruk Danladi, expressed delight at the significant progress recorded within a short timeframe, especially in Kabba, Ankpa, and Okene.

    Other sites visited during the tour included reforestation zones and additional water harvesting and CRF intervention areas.

    While addressing the team, the Project Coordinator, Kogi ACReSAL, Barr Ladi Ahmed Jatto, appreciated the State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for the good work he is doing in the State, and for being a solid strength behind the success of the ACReSAL Project thus far; she further thanked the World Bank team and the national team for their support and guidance which are key to the successes recorded. 

    She further added that the key objectives of the Project is “land restoration, enhancement of livelihoods, and boosting food security.”

    The inspection visit demonstrates the Kogi State Government’s commitment to monitoring and evaluating the activities of Kogi State ACReSAL Project, in a bid to match Project’s progress.

    The Project’s achievements are expected to have positive impact on the State’s determination to enhance environmental conservation, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable development in the State.

    The ACReSAL Project also aims to improve the resilience of communities in Kogi State to climate change, enhance agricultural productivity, and promote sustainable land management practices.
