    Akeredolu will transform Ondo, says Buhari

    President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday congratulated the Ondo State Governor-Elect, Chief Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on his victory in the Saturday, November 26 governorship election in the state.

    Buhari, in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, also congratulated the Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun,   the Chairman of the Campaign Committee, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, and all party faithful who put in their best and braved the odds to ensure a successful outing for the flag bearer.

    He also rejoiced with the people of Ondo State, who aligned with his own belief that Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, with his pedigree, possesses the qualities to transform the state into the Ondo of their dreams.

    He said: “From the beginning, this election set out to be a different kind of election. The unity and resilience of the party was tested. I am happy we came out of this victorious.

    “This is a huge win. The mood today is against corruption, insecurity and for the restoration of the economy and the creation of jobs. This is where the party stands and I am happy that the electorate has read the situation correctly,” said the President.”

    He called on other contestants in the election to see the triumph of Chief Akeredolu as the wish of God and enjoined them to work together with him to make the state a truly progressive and economically prosperous one for all.

    The President commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the security agencies and the voters for the peaceful and successful conduct of the elections.

    The President urged Akeredolu, as prepares to assemble his team and bring the much desired CHANGE to the people, to put behind whatever acrimonies may have arisen from the electioneering process and reach out to all well-meaning people in the state and beyond to implement his vision.

    He also assured Nigerians that the APC-led administration under his watch is committed to playing by the rules, and there will be no let-up “until we see the great nation of our dreams in all spheres of national development.”

    Akeredolu: Ondo people made the right choice – Fayemi

    The Minister of Mines and steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has  said the people of Ondo State made the right choice with the election of Rotimi Akeredolu as the new governor.
    In a congratulatory message signed by his media aide, Olayinka Oyebode, Fayemi described Akeredolu’s triumph at the poll as a victory for democracy as well as the people of Ondo State who have long clamoured for change.
    The Minister said the people of Ondo State have, through their votes, demonstrated their preference for transformative leadership and progressive governance which Akeredolu represents.
    Fayemi urged them to cooperate fully with the soon-to-be- inaugurated APC-led government which will usher the state to a new era of all-round development.
    He urged all the relevant stakeholders in the state to accept the verdict of the people and work with Akeredolu to move the State forward. He also urged Akeredolu to commence a process of reconciliation aimed at uniting the party in the state.
    The Minister said he was sure that Akeredolu would run a responsive and people-oriented government in the State.
    Noting the keen nature of the contest, Dr Fayemi also saluted the contestants for their maturity which contributed to the peaceful atmosphere under which the election held.
    “Ondo State people deserve to be congratulated for the right choice they have made. They have  demonstrated their confidence in Mr Akeredolu’s ability to take the state to the next level of development and prosperity.”
    “The state would surely witness greater level of development, judging by Mr Akeredolu’s pedigree as a highly experienced professional, tested and trusted technocrat  and strategic planner,” Fayemi  added.

    Prove to be worthy of people’s trust, Afenifere group urges Akeredolu

    The Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) has congratulated Ondo State people for their faith in democracy and using the opportunity it presents to determine the direction of their future as a people.

    In a statement signed by its chairman, Hon. Olawale Oshun, ARG also praised the recipient of the people’s mandate, Barr. Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, and other candidates for pursuing their ambitions within the ambit of the Rule of Law. Such maturity and statesmanship, the group said, is needed to restore the pride of Yoruba land.

    “We charge Akeredolu, as the guardian of the people’s mandate, to continuously and consistently prove himself a leader worthy of his people’s trust, by constantly communicating his vision and managing the resources of the state towards the development and wellbeing of Ondo State. We also charge the people to cooperate with the governor-elect, be alert to their civic duties and keep the government on that path of straight and narrow,” the statement said.

    “We trust that Akeredolu’s administration will prioritise good governance over partisanship, in the noble and progressive tradition of Awolowo and Ajasin, which is the main reason he earned our endorsement.”

    “Most importantly, we are hopeful that in active collaboration with the governors of other Southwest states, Akeredolu’s emergence will make easier the pursuit of regional integration, which has already gained credible momentum in our region. We therefore call on other Yoruba governors to embrace him into their fold, in the renewed spirit of brotherhood and reconciliation in Southwest.”

    “As a pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group, ARG will continue to stand for and protect the interest of Yoruba people,” he group stated.

  • Oyegun thanks Ondo people for voting APC

    The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has congratulated the Party’s Ondo State governorship election Candidate and running mate, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN and Hon. Agboola Ajayi respectively on their landslide election victory.

     In a message issued on Sunday on behalf of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), Odigie-Oyegun while thanking the Ondo electorate for voting for the Party also expressed gratitude to the good people of Ondo State for their impressive turnout and peaceful conduct during the election exercise.

    The APC National Chairman equally thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and other party leaders for their invaluable support towards winning the Ondo state governorship election. He called for calm and appealed to the opposition parties and their candidates to accept defeat in good faith.

     Odigie-Oyegun: “The APC thanks the Ondo electorate for voting for the Party in the keenly-contested election. The Ondo electorate have voted for the candidate with a proven track record of performance and who will bring about the kind focused leadership and multi-faceted development which the state deserves. The Party assures that we will deliver on this expectation.

     “Also, the outcome of the Ondo state governorship election powerfully demonstrates the confidence and trust by our people in the overall leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari’s APC-led administration. The Party and the President hold sacred this trust.

    “With the 2016 Ondo State governorship gone, the task before the Party leadership is uniting the Party and healing wounds.”

  • Akeredolu: Vote of confidence in APC, Buhari, says Okorocha

    Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha has said that the victory of Mr Rotimi Akeredolu in the Ondo State governorship election has confirmed the popularity of APC in the South-West and the love of South-West people for President Muhammadu Buhari.
     
    Governor Okorocha also said that the wide margin with which the APC candidate defeated the candidates of other political parties also showed that Nigerians understood the circumstances that gave rise to the current recession the nation is witnessing at the moment.
    He said that those who had thought that the recession would affect the electoral fortunes of APC have now seen that they were wrong.
     
    The Imo State Governor thanked the people of Ondo State for voting wisely and explained that the way they had voted only indicated how highly intelligent they are in interpreting political development and how richly they are endowed with wisdom.
     
    “The people of Ondo State have spoken with their votes and they spoke well. Their decision to be part of the APC government at the centre is commendable. With their votes, they have passed vote of confidence on APC and President Mohammadu Buhari. They will never be disappointed in the APC government in the state”.
     
    He congratulated the people of Ondo State for their patriotism and also congratulated, Chief Akeredolu on his resounding victory, and urged other candidates in the election to congratulate the winner without further delay.
     
     
  • Akeredolu’s victory a proof of APC’s popularity – Dogara

    The Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, has congratulated All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, on his election as Ondo State Governor-elect.

    The felicitation message is in a statement issued on Sunday by Mr Turaki Hassan, the Speaker`s Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs.

    Dogara maintained that the victory of the APC in the election was a proof that the party was loved by Nigerians.

    The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday declared Akeredolu as winner in the Ondo State Nov. 26 governorship election with a total of 244,842 votes, ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Eyitayo Jegede,
    who polled 150,380 votes.

    The Alliance for Democracy got 126, 889 votes while the Social Democratic Party got 10, 147 votes.

    The Speaker said “the election of Chief Rotimi Akeredolu and the APC in Ondo State is a clear indication of the popularity of our political party.

    “I would like to congratulate Akeredolu on his victory at the poll and also commend our great party, the APC, for a thorough and successful campaign.’’

    Dogara then urged stakeholders to come together and ensure that the incoming APC government in Ondo State delivered the mandate given by the people, in line with the party’s manifesto.

    He said that “as a party, we must take our victory in Ondo State seriously since the people have placed enormous trust in us.

    “We must, therefore, deliver on policies that will improve the standard of living of the people.’’

    While commending the people of Ondo State for keeping the election process peaceful and coming out to perform their civic duty, Dogara also praised INEC and security agencies for ensuring a hitch-free exercise. (NAN)

    The Governor-elect of Ondo State, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN has promised the people of the state that he would not fail them.

    Akeredolu, who gave his acceptance speech at his residence in his home town, Owo shortly after being announced winner said the victory is of God through the people.
    He commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Chairman of APC, Chief John Oyegun and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
    “I wish to express my profound gratitude, first, to the Almighty God whose infinate grace has allowed us to see this day.
    “This victory is of God through the people. It is not for me or the APC alone, it is a victory for the people of Ondo State irrespective of which side of the divide you stood during the election. For me it is a challenge to perform. It is a call to rescue our state and reverse it fortunes.
    “I thank the people of my dear state for their steadfastness. I have heard their messages throughout the campaign to all the nooks and crannies of the state. Today, you have spoken with one voice. You have walked your talk. You have voted for me as your governor for the next years.
    “Today, change has come. I hereby made a solemn pledge that this collective mandate shall address all issues with keen determination. The welfare of our people alone shall be the directive policy of the government.
    “Today’s victory is a confirmation of the willingness and readiness of the people of Ondo state to change and seek a better life. I thank you for your faith and confidence in me. I thank all those whose uncommon sacrifice, contributed in no small measure to the success of the exercise. A special show of gratitude must be extended to our security agents for their patriotic duty.
    “I shall in few months be saddled with the task of providing responsible leadership, a leadership that would take our people from proverty and stagnation to productivity and prosperity, from pains and lamentation to joy and laughter.
    “It is the sole reason you have voted for me and by the grace of God I will not fail you, ” Akeredolu promised.

    Ondo Governorship: INEC declares Akeredolu winner

    Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, ( APC), Mr Rotimi Akeredolu has been declared winner of the Ondo State Governorship election held on Saturday by the Independent Electoral Commission, (INEC).
    Akeredolu according to the result announced by the Chief Returning Officer, Professor  Abdul-Ganiyu Ambali, won the election with 244,842 votes to defeat his closest rival, Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) who polled 150,380votes.
    Chief Olusola Oke of the Alliance for Democracy, ( AD) had 126,889 votes.

    In his acceptance speech, the governor-elect promised to run a purposeful government that would fizzle out ethnicity among the people.

    He also promised to embark on agricultural programme that would encourage youths to go back to farm, to boost food production and reduce hunger and unemployment.

    Ondo decides: Akeredolu hails electorate

    The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Saturday’s Ondo State governorship election, Olurotimi Akeredolu (SAN) has praised the people of the State following his victory in 14 of the 17 Local Government Areas so far declared by INEC.

    As at press time, INEC Resident Officer, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali announced a long break to resume at 11:00am as result counting continued at Ilaje LGA.

    Akeredolu took to his social media handle to say: “Ondo has decided and I am humbled that my people chose me. Our time to Think Anew and Act Anew has come. Thank You Ondo State.”
