  • 5 hidden tricks your Android phone can do

There’s a whole host of hidden features, in your Android phone, that you may not know about that can make your mobile experience a lot more fun.

Android has a wide variety of models, and versions which makes it more difficult to find features that will be consistent across all devices but you could dig into the settings and tweaks available for your Android phone and you’ll find a host of clever features and useful tools.

Here are five (5) tricks you could do with your Android phone:

    1. Find your phone: Usually, you’d have to ask someone to ring your phone or find another phone to ring your phone. But you don’t have to with your Android. Simply search “find my phone” on Google and Google will find it for you. If you own more than one Android device, you’ll be prompted to select one.

Not only can you see its location on Google Maps but also ring it or erase everything on it. The ring also works even if the phone is on silent and rings for a full 5 minutes. So that’s an advantage over a traditional method of ringing to find your phone.

    1. Dual tab viewing on Chrome: So everyone knows how to split-screen on Android and use two apps side by side. Most people don’t know, however, that you can also view two separate Chrome tabs side by side as well. Just make sure you have two tabs open on Chrome and then launch the split-screen view by long pressing on the recent/overview key. Tap on the three-dot overflow menu button on Chrome and select Move to other window and that’s it.
    2. Use a mouse to operate your phone: Is your display broken and the touchscreen doesn’t work? Connect a USB mouse. You can also connect gamepads, USB sticks and more with the adapter. Do it and your iPhone friends will be turning green with envy. You only need a USB OTG cable, and then you can begin.
    3. Unlock your phone automatically: Android has had a feature called Smart Lock for quite some time now but it isn’t talked about much. You can set it to automatically unlock when you’re at a specified location such as your home, office or any other place. You can set it to unlock when you connect to a device such as your smartwatch or your car’s Bluetooth system. Smart Lock can be found in Settings > Security & Lockscreen.
    4. Turn on the Guest mode: Sometimes you’ve to hand over your phone to someone in need. And then they have to walk away a few steps to get a better signal reception. You have no idea what they might be looking at. A better solution would be to use a Guest mode which has been, again, present on Android for a while. Just pull down your quick settings from the top and tap on your user icon. Select Add guest and you’ll switch to guest mode.

  • Seven things money cannot buy

When you think about it, money can’t buy everything. It’s a safe bet that most of us have had the “If I had enough money” daydream of personal fulfillment.”

Most people have the mentality that once they get the money, own the money they can get everything they want falls at their fingertips.

It is good to say money commands respect and instills fear. Money is a smooth operator but of what profit is it if you acquire all the wealth and still can find peace within your inner mind?

    · Money can’t buy happiness: Benjamin Franklin once said:

“Money has never made man happy, nor will it; there is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more of it one has the more one wants.”

It is true that money can buy things and make you happy but the real happiness does not come from the shiny material possessions that you buy. Money can only temporarily elevate your happiness but it cannot make you happy from within and happiness from within last longer.

    · Money can’t buy peace of mind

There is always a place for money but it doesn’t give you peace of mind. Money won’t give you peace of mind. A lot of people think that when they are rich, they will be at peace because they don’t have to worry about paying their bills or buying foods for their families. This is a false assumption because money can’t solve your inner problems. Money can only solve your needs but not your inner peace.

It is possible that you can learn something new or gain more knowledge with money, but the real wisdom comes from experience

    · Money can’t buy integrity

    · Money can’t buy love

Love is an intimate emotion that money cannot create. Be it true love or just love, money can’t buy the chemistry of love .Find true love outside your money and its limited power.

Once you get that true love try to spend all your time working for money on the family in order not to be a money slave and at the end, you will feel empty inside even when your bank is full of money.

Discoveries have shown that conflicts have a high tendency of having a negative effect on a person’s physical and emotional health. It is best to avoid conflicts with co-workers. However, in a situation where you find yourself involved in any form of conflict, do not act in a way that would escalate the whole issue but deal with it the right way, settle things amicably. Also stay clear of colleagues who like to fight, argue or gossip, do not get involved in any altercation at work. This would help reduce the stress at work.

    *BE SIGNIFICANT AT WORK

Always bring something to the table. There would always be pressure from bosses on those who offer nothing or add little significance to the growth of their organisation and it’s business. Be creative, think and keep thinking of something different that would be of great benefit to your organisation, be at the top of your game. Being recognised among the top players would reduce or fully eradicate any form of pressure from your bosses at work. This would help you feel relaxed at work thereby relieving your body and mind of stress while at work.

  • How to prepare zobo drink

It is interesting to learn about one of Nigeria’s popular drinks, family beverage and our very own local Chapman; Roselle drinks and also known as Hibiscus tea is popularly known as zobo in Nigeria.

Zobo drink is one of Nigeria’s popular drinks made from dried Roselle plant flowers. The drink is also a Roselle drink. It is mostly prepared at home as family beverage drink and also as refreshment in parties and get-togethers.

Ingredients for 5 litres of Zobo drink:

You can get more with the same quantity of ingredients depending on the concentration you want. If you will be using artificial flavours, you might want to add more water.

2 De Rica cups of dry Zobo leaves

    1 clove of garlic

    1 big piece of ginger

    1 big, very ripe pineapple

    Enough water

    Preparation:

Zobo leaves are usually very dusty, so make sure you wash off the dust thoroughly. It will seem like all the flavours/colour of the zobo are being washed off but don’t worry, you would be impressed to find out that the leaves still have a lot of the colour intact when you start boiling it.

Wash, peel and cut the pineapple into thin slices. Some people add the peel of the pineapple when making the zobo drink but I don’t do this, simply because I always think that dirt sticks to the peels of pineapples.

Similarly, peel and cut the ginger and garlic into tiny pieces.

    DIRECTIONS

    1. Put the washed zobo leaves into a deep pot.
    2. Add the pineapples and pour enough hot water to consume the contents of the pot and then some garlic at this initial stage.
    3. Start cooking at medium to high heat and let it boil for about 5 minutes.
    4. Now, add the ginger and the garlic, more water and keep boiling for the next 30 minutes. This is the actual time it would take for the zobo leaves to be completely soft and the pineapples tender.
    5. Turn off the heat and set the pot aside to cool down completely.
    6. When cool, wring out the juice from the pineapples and zobo leaves, leaving only the zobo juice in the pot.
    7. Pour the juice through a sieve to take out the remaining large particles then pour it through a chiffon cloth to remove the tiniest particles.
    8. Add any artificial flavour of your choice at this time and stir.
    9. Pour into bottles and refrigerate. Your Roselle drinks is ready but remember that it is best-served chill.
Finally, serve with ice and sliced fruits. Enjoy with any snack of your choice.

It is true that motivation gives us that extra strength to get things done.

Although it might not always come when you need it the most but in every obstacles you find yourself follow the rule “DON’T GIVE UP”.

If you are finding it difficult to complete a work, try these few things to get yourself motivated.

    1. Reinforce Your Motive

When it looks as if the situation ain’t getting better try to remind yourself why you are doing this, write out the reasons for starting the work in the first place, select another proper agenda, think about another better option and set out for the work.

Building momentum early in the day can usually carry you forward far later in the day, try and fulfill your plans for that day and avoid procrastination.

    1. Be careful with the small problems

As a small as the problem might be it could be the worst killer of motivation and could creates endless frustration.

Reframe little problems that must be fixed as bigger ones or they will kill any drive you have. Build motivation to avoid the traps or problem that can stop it.

    1. Take occasional breaks

That work will still be waiting for you when you get back. Avoid burning out, by taking a break.

Take some time off or walk to clear your head and give your brain enough time to reboot. During this period you could listen to music or do things that makes you happy.

  • Male contribution to infertility on the rise, says fertility expert

The probability that men contributes significantly to infertility is very high, a fertility expert, Dr. Abayomi Ajayi, Obstetrician/Gynaecologist has said.

Ajayi, who is the Managing Director, Nordica Fertility Centre, said there is no pinpoint factor that can blamed for male factor infertility but lots points to lifestyle factor, which he said is within ones control.

Ajayi, who spoke to our correspondent in Abuja on the needs for men to maintain a healthy lifestyle to check the rising phenomenon, stressed gone were the days infertility is placed at the door steps of women.

According to him: “The myth about infertility been a problem of the women has already been broken. May be some twenty five years ago, I have seen a patient, a man hold on to a doctor’s collar and said, you I am not fertile and like you said it was believed that infertility is a woman’s problem but now even the populace are getting aware now that men can have problems. And we know scientifically that men contribute equally to infertility with women.

“But the figure that we are even seen now shows that men might contributing more to infertility than women. We did a recent study in my centre that we saw about twelve per cent of men that come to our centre don’t have sperms at all.

”Not that they have low sperm count but they don’t have sperms at all. So we did another study which we compared sperm count in 2003 to 2013 and we saw that there was a drop of about thirty percent.”

Though he stressed that the findings of the centre can not be said to be true representation, but is is a pointer of the current global reality.

“Why we can’t really shout about it is that these are not community based studies and so there will be some skewed because it is those that come to fertility clinic that we are looking at so we can say that is what is obtainable in the society but that is not only in Nigeria, it is a global picture that male infertility is becoming more rampant.

READ ALSO: Semen analysis and infertility in men

There is an article that somebody wrote that said EMB might soon become extinct because sperm count seems to be dropping.

“So it is not a Nigeria thing it is a global fear that men are contributing significantly to infertility,” he stressed.

On the possible cause, he said: “But there is no singular factor that we can point at but some many factor has been incriminated. Initially, there was a believe that the problems starts from when the boy is in the mother womb and now everything has shifted to the environment that is causing the problem.

“There is more environmental factors than you are been born with male infertility and some of the factors incriminated are some you cannot even do with out including toothpaste.

“So many things have been looked at that could coy tribute to male infertility, of course there some studies which shown that men who works in gas stations (petrol attendance) over a long period of time.

“So your vocation is also one thing that might be incriminated. Some say may be even the global warming stuff .

“The truth about it is that we cannot pinpoint a particular thing but the thing we are saying now because these are factors that are within our control, the others don’t seems to be within our control the lifestyle factors and that is why now we are talking a lot about lifestyle because that is within what we can control. You can control your weight as much as possible, it can be done.

“You can control what you eat, control that you don’t drink excessively, you can control that you don’t smoke, you can control that you don’t abuse drugs.

“Lifestyle things are the things that we think can contribute to male factor infertility that are within our control and those are the things we are laying a lot of emphasis on.”

He also encouraged men, especially the expectant married ones so that they can seek help where necessary and also on time.

  • Four ways to stay debt-free

Imagine “Oga Landlord” comes knocking at the door one fateful Saturday morning and you lock yourself in because you have spent your rent money, which you borrowed from Tola, to pay up Funke whom you borrowed money from six months ago.

As funny as this situation sounds, this has become the lifestyle of many people who live in an unending circle of debt. Achieving a debt-free life is possible if one is intentional about it. Here are ways to achieve it:

Have self-control: In a world where businesses do not have the luxury of monopoly, products are literally thrown in the faces of people thereby spiking impulse-buying. Technology has not helped in this area as advertisements pop up every now and then on mobile devices with an easy option of free house delivery. So you can easily find yourself buying a shoe you do not need when that money could have been used wisely to prevent borrowing money in the near future.

Save: Very linked to having self-control, you must learn how not to make purchases just because you have money at hand. It is very easy to be tempted to spend because you know money is sitting in the account. However, saving money for rainy days such as unplanned hospital expenses is very important.

Be ready to make sacrifices: Eating out, expensive data subscription, premium cable package and going to the cinema are some sacrifices that need to be made when trying to be debt-free. If it is not necessary, stay away from it. You must be ready to deny yourself of some things to avoid being in the situation described above.

Be goal-driven: Being debt-free is a goal. To achieve it, you must have a financial objective in front of you. Calculate your earnings, draw up a budget and stick to it. Know what you want to do, have a strategy and make it happen. It is not enough that you draw up a plan. You have to make sure your plan is specific, measureable, achievable, relevant and time-bound.

You must realize that those that run into debt worth millions probably started with a few thousands. This means that falling into debt can happen to anyone. That is why you have to make that deliberate and conscious effort today.

    Warm regards,

    Kehinde Oluwafisayo Matthew
