  • Who is afraid of peace in the North East

There is an ugly development that should give all truly patriotic Nigerians concerns. It has to do with the turn of events in the North East of the country, which has been the hotbed of the Boko Haram insurgency. What is at stake here is the seeming indifference – if not active undermining – to the efforts at ending the years of horror the terrorists had visited on the country.
The December 24, 2016 capture of Camp Zero in Sambisa Forest, globally recognized as Boko Haram’s last stronghold, should have provoked a zeal in stakeholders in the area to boldly step forward and deliver the non-combatant components of the anti-terror war to ensure the war is decisively won. Not much of such appears to be happening. If anything, the sense one has is of those in position of authority doing their best to return their sphere of influence back to the era of fear under Boko Haram’s sustained attacks.
This trend is worrisome. The stakeholders in the north east, particularly those in Borno state, cannot continue to expect the whole country to clean up their mess without actively contributing to managing the situation they are largely credited with precipitating. Not a few experts have identified crippling poverty as the booster fuel that accelerated the growth of Boko Haram and sustained it – the poor population of youth without education or employment provide a ready pool of recruits for radicalization and militarization. Even though the whole of Nigeria is a developing country with widespread poverty issue, the leaders in Borno reportedly created the kind of poverty that is virulent as they diverted the resources meant for that area’s population for personal investments in other states or imitate their counterparts to export their people’s patrimony abroad.
If poverty was the fuel that propelled Boko Haram’s growth, the sheer indifference of these stakeholders, coupled with their penchant for misleading the issue was the catalyst that allowed it mutate from a ragtag band of cudgel, machetes, bows and arrows wielding youths to the world most notorious terror group that shames even Daesh (ISIS). News clippings would easily show that instead of quickly nipping the problem in the bud at its sapling stage, Borno politicians were rather exploiting it for their own nefarious ends; some went as far as hiring the then emerging terrorists to eliminate their political opponents or at least assassinate their opponents and make the killings appear like Boko Haram attacks.
At a later stage, when the group was in mutation into the world’s horror story, these stakeholders rather allowed it to fester, they milked it for all it is worth by setting up phantom contact groups and phony negotiations that were used to defraud the former administration. They supposedly fled their domains simply to qualify for handouts. All these streams of funding would dry up if the killer group was defeated so it was desirable for them to keep the attacks in place so long as money and influence keep flowing and the killers know where not to strike.
But that was before Boko Haram became a desirable bride to foreign terrorists organizations and completely went rabid. Its fighters turned on even their handlers – religion, ethnic affiliation, financial ties and all other previous considerations lost meaning for the now crazed murderers.
It is for this reason that Nigerians must condemn recent reports that  Borno Elders, particularly those of Kanuri origin are reluctant to back peaceful initiatives being put forward by other stakeholders to bring the entire Boko Haram episode to a desirable close. Evidence of this abound in the conflicting stance they take on the issue of moving forward after Nigerian troops decimated, decapitated and humiliated the insurgents from their strongholds. The escaping fighters continue to attempt staging attacks without Borno Elders deploying their clout to corral them into submission. If anything, the utterances from these elders appeared to be encouraging the fighters that a re-group is possible.
An immediate and justifiable suspicion is to conclude that these elders are loath to see the last of the terrorists because they are still hopeful of some sort of monetary gain or influence peddling by sustaining Boko Haram as a bargaining chip similar to how elders in the Niger-Delta have declared terrorists militants their “children” that are free to run amok. This suspicion raises several questions and the answers to these would define the future of human existence in the north east.
In whose interest is the restoration of peace in Borno and the northeast? Why have the stakeholders in the north east refused to commit themselves to bringing about lasting peace in the region? What is the endgame of these stakeholders? How do they want the scenario playing out to end?
Whatever the answers are do not in anyway detract from the strength and capabilities of the Nigerian military to bring the ugly scenario in Borno state and environs to a close at some point in time, after all the military is an enduring institution that would not go away. But support from the stakeholders would potentially shorten the time needed for restoring normalcy to the area while reducing further loss of life to lone wolf attacks being staged by escaping terrorists. There is no doubt about the military’s might but additional peaceful approaches are needed to bring about the needed peace for the people to heal their wounds and rebuild the region . Guns have never and will never bring people together just as elders are usually the ones with the institutional memory to make this happen.
As opposed to the current situation where the Borno Elders’ response to the military exploits against Boko Haram has been criticism instead of acknowledgement one would like to see and hear them step in to call their clansmen to order and ask them to lay down their arms. One does not presently hear them call on their children to lay down their arms and put an end to the soft target ambushes that sadly often catch their own ethnic nationals in the crossfire – their improvised explosive devices have no capacity to discriminate as to who gets killed when they target helpless and defenseless citizens in the state. The fleeing elements still have the capacity to inflict pains on the people and the responsibility now falls in part on Borno Elders and stakeholders in the northeast to come up with workable idea since the military and security cannot be present in every single home.
The state governor, Kashim Shettima, should show the needed political leadership, put more efforts in the peace project by coming up with strategies that the other neighboring states can tap into to revive the entire northern region. As the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Shettima has to do more to see that the fleeing elements are prevailed upon within the shortest period of time to surrender their arms. The governor should see how he can galvanize his colleagues to inspire the districts and emirate councils along the line of what the Zurmi Emirate did when it handed over three Boko Haram suspects to the army. Once the terrorists realize they have no hiding places even among their own folks they will be encouraged to turn themselves in for reintegration.
The delay on the part of elders and stakeholders in kicking off such initiative is not one that should prolong inaction through self recriminations. On the internet, for the first time in history of the insurgency, we saw videos on YouTube inviting Nigerians and the rest of the world to the first Mega Rally for Peace in the North East region of Nigeria, right in Governor Shettima’s backyard. It is an initiative he should take over if only to ensure that it can record more success in restoring normalcy to the state by pressuring the terrorists on the lose to give up.
For the Borno Elders, this laudable initiative for now is the best news to come out of Maiduguri in the year 2017. It could as well be the pathway for finding redemption for their previous failings. The peace efforts, while not initiated by them must not be jeopardized for political exigencies. Other Nigerians want peace all around and that would not be possible if peace does not reign in the northeast.

Like joke, like joke, the vehicle refused to start o. So I started the day, in no man’s land, my delicacy had started getting used to other contents in my stomach, I had moved slightly away from others as I had a silent weapon, ‘gassing’. In fact, if I can say it was ‘bad’, it was indeed bad. My breath smelt, my human hair had picked up a foreign smell; I tried not to look dishevelled look but was a struggle.

I am a local champion and anytime I arrive home at my parent’s house, it always seemed that I came in from London, and not Lagos. Anyway, they both start with the letter ‘L’. Lagos or London they are all the same.  As I turned into the corner of my house, I child spotted me, they all came running towards me, they all wanted to carry my rucksack. They know my handbag would not be handed over because they can inadvertently smear the bag with snoot or soot.

The children waited for anxiously for something to drop, I promised to give them something later, I was going to sneak back to Lagos before they have the chance to say ‘Jack Robinson’.

As I got to my parents place, I headed straight to the toilet, to download. What a relief. I greeted my parents, my mum was fussing around me, she had not seen me for a while, and she knew the reason why, but my dead was in his own world grinning, thinking that I had come with the

My mother always likes to kill a chicken anytime I come home, I had to dissuade her,  its profitable to kill a chicken on three months allowance but on half a month allowance, it is loss. I asked her not to bother with the chicken that I had eaten so much of it in Lagos and I needed to eat something different. I opted for ‘efo riro and roasted fish ‘Panla’, that combination will not cause a huge dent in the allowance.

It was nice to be pampered, fussed over; my mother should get a star for that. I gave my dad the envelope and explained my circumstances. Despite my trepidation, they understood, and they started praying for me, if my parents start praying, then know you could be standing for the next thirty minutes, I decided to sit because I needed all the prayer in the world.

This was a quick visit, but it had been worth my while, I had to plan my return journey without being spotted by the children, I came out and heard them playing at the back of the house, I gingerly stepped out and quickened my pace.  Then I heard one of the children calling Aunty, I started running because the calling had become a chorus. Indicative that they had all heard me leave.

Can you just imagine! A whole ‘me’ the dame, running from giving sweets to the children, that is what life throws at you sometimes. I must rectify the situation before my next visit. I will transfer some money to mum to buy sweets for them.

I decided to go and visit my parents. I could not visit before now because I did not have the transport fare and I could not go empty handed. My mum had been asking when I was coming to see them. I could not say I was busy because they had not seen evidence of my busyness. I now owe my parents, three months allowance, I hope to give half month allowance and will owe two and half months, by the time I make my return trip it would be three and a half months. Who cares, they should be happy they are getting something.

I decided to step out very early, I don’t want anybody to see me at Berger catching a bus with my LV bag. I chose to sit by the window at the back because there was a delicacy I was going to buy at Sagamu. The bus was filling up fast. Unfortunately, the last passenger that came on was sweating profusely even at 8.00am in the morning. As she sat next to me, I just realised my mouth was full of saliva, the bus started to move out of its slot, I had no choice but to send the saliva back to where it had come from.

I knew then that my journey was going to be a memorable one, how do you cover your nose without causing offence? The passenger kept on moving about, every time she put her hand in her bag to get something out, I was elbowed. I knew ‘Today na Today’.

My phone began to ring, with my posh voice; I picked up and answered the phone. Everybody in the bus looked my way, the guy in front checked to see my type of phone. When he saw the iPhone casing he smiled.  It was the very thing I wanted to achieve; it’s only because of circumstances I took this bus. This was not my usual mode of travel, some eyed me, some had a look to see if they could possibly take me for a ride, if only that they knew. I am a wolf in sheep clothing.

When we got to Sagamu, When I spotted my delicacy, I pursed my lips together and called as if I was calling my cat, but alas, I was calling the guy who was selling Guinea fowl egg. As I was haggling for the price of the egg, I forgot I was meant to be posh, the real accent was flowing, it’s only when I caught the whole bus load looking at me again that I realised they had seen the ‘wolf’.

The woman next to me continued to give me this incredulous look, it could be one of two things, she could not believe that I had purchased the egg, or she was thinking of the havoc the egg would cause. Either way, the deed had be done but the havoc of the egg can in no way, shape or form be nearer to the havoc of her body, I had been subjected to the worst stench and my fear is that because of the close proximity, the stench could linger for a while.

I gingerly untied the nylon and removed the shell of the egg, I ate the first egg, bringing out my Eva water (it’s actually pure water in an empty Eva bottle). I began to consume the other eggs.  I was in seventh heaven and I had no worries in this world until the engine spluttered and stopped running.

  • My wife beats me at will – husband

My wife beats me at will – husband

“My wife is stronger than me and she has turned me into a punching bag,” a man, Lukeman Owolabi, told a Customary Court sitting in Ikole in Ekiti State on Thursday.

The wife had filed a suit seeking the dissolution of their 23-year-old marriage over constant fighting and threat to life.

However, the husband, who denied beating his wife, told the court his wife was one who had been beating him, saying “she is stronger than me.”

“My wife beats me whenever we fight because she has power more than me.”

Owolabi, who said the marriage had produced six children of between ages six and 22, urged the court to dissolve the union.

Apart from the vexed issue of constant beating by the wife and threat to life, the estranged couple also wanted the court to intervene in a landed property to ascertain the legitimate owner between them.

The wife, Esther, who operates a restaurant and bar in the town, claimed ownership of the land, while the husband insisted the land belongs to him.

The President of the court, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, fixed further hearing for February 13.

My alarm clock buzzed at 4.30am, I jumped out of bed ready for the activities of the day. I got into the shower, after two seconds, I heard a whistling sound, the water ceased to gush out, with lather all over my body, I waited for the sound of a generator, a signal that water was being pumped into the water tank.  Five seconds rolled into ten minutes. Pulling my towel to myself, I wiped myself down. It’s called ‘body drycleaning’ mission accomplished.

I was like a dog with a bone. For the day, I was ‘Cruella.’   I arrived at Company X at 7.30.

As I listened to him bragging, he had no remorse, it was no big deal to him, as far as he was concerned, it was a game and all he cared about was what was in it for him (WIIFM). He was a ‘piece of Whit’ (whit rhyming nicely with a word I cannot use). Hey what do you do when faced with such, you smile until your face aches.

Piece of Whit (POW) stopped to look at my hand bag, he had the audacity to ask if it was real, I told him I don’t carry fake things, my ego had taken over. I went on to show him a copy of my bag on the net.

Rubbing his hand together, he alluded to my capability, little did I Know what was coming, I sat up straight, its all about R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Capability had nothing to do with my competence but my financial status

His 55% soon metamorphosed into a Curve Television to be delivered to his home.  Within a spate of five minutes 55% had become 85% (considering the cost of the gift) and I was to get 15%.

Likewise, POW became POS (S being the word I cannot mention) to me in that split second. What a greedy man. I continued to smile, after all the vision and mission was to get him to sign the contract, everything else was secondary.

Thank God I had learned to operate my phone without bringing it out of the bag; well my Chinese Phone can come in handy and easy to use. I had recorded the whole conversation without him know a thing. He signed the contract and gave it back to me.

I needed to bring out my ace card to conclude the game, as I placed one foot in the doorway, the other foot in his office, I hit the play button, he heard his voice loud and clear, he looked at me and I returned his, with a triumphant glare.

I left his office, knowing I will receive his phone call, clearly, he is screwed. We would have to start a new page. The picture of his face would forever be etched in my memory for life.

    Bye for now POS.

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]ell, I have to go to Church today; I need to thank God for my good fortune. I will put some money in the envelope on this occasion. It definitely cannot be 10% though. God understands but the Pastors don’t. After all God does not come down and spend this money, my LV bag has given an impression that I have money and I don’t mind that, but how can they know my reality.  There is ‘Big Brother’ in the church; they watch your every move. I make a habit of asking for the tithe and offering envelope, I dance out with my tithe, but if you do your sums, 10% of Zero is Zero. Back to sender, I give the envelope back as it was given to me.

I must say, I remembered an incident that happened not too long ago, it made me afraid o, but I am a step ahead of them. One day I got a call from the Chief Usher to ask if I had forgotten to put money in my envelope, my heart skipped a bit, my antics have been exposed, but I quickly recovered. I asked him to explain himself. I was thinking, are there covert cameras in the church? Are the envelopes marked?  He went on to say that the envelope they gave me was empty. I told him he had better go and check that information again because he had just insulted me. He apologised profusely.

I have since learnt, I don’t wait to be given an envelope, I take it from the shelf myself, and I take it from the middle, as for the covert cameras, I am not sure, I normally bring out my purse, take out a crispy N5 note or N10 cover the amount and put it in the envelope. We self-employed people have been trained to be ahead of our game.

This other issue, of my proposal being given to my friend has left a bad taste in my mouth. I took a snapshot of the proposal and sent it to ‘Company X’ threatening them with three options, Option one, exposure on Facebook,  Option two a letter from my solicitor, I must say this is not a viable option as the cost of a letter from my solicitor will bring my closing balance to NIL. Option 3, I proposed a counter offer 55: 45. Don’t forget that my friends offer was 60:40.

My people, ‘wonders never cease’. To the glory of God and the shame of Satan and his cohorts, Option three was accepted by ‘Company X’. Not sure who is the devil here but that will be for another day.

I have been invited in to conclude the terms and condition on Monday, They want me to proceed very quickly because time is of the essence. My friend was given an appointment for Wednesday.

The whole palaver makes you wonder about life, on this occasion ‘monkey will work and baboon will starve.’ I have a trick up my sleeve but that will be for another day. At least I can look forward to going out on Monday like everybody else. I went into the room to begin my search for the right outfit, I need to show them ‘ the thief stole it, another the thief took it back.’

[dropcap]H[/dropcap]ooray it is Saturday; the day is a leveller for all of us, the Employee and ‘We Self Employed’. We all get to stay at home and wake up a bit later.

I decided to go to the gym, I am in a good mood, money lifts your spirit, I looked for the outfit that makes me look like a size ten, on a bad day I am size 14 and on a very, very bad day I am size 16 .I’ve  not been for four months,  I had my eyes on someone,  and I thought he had eyes for me too,  so I had to invest in some gym ‘baffs’, every week I wore something different and he commented on each new outfit guess what!  he had such nerves, he came in with his wife, one Saturday, I could not believe my eyes. Anyway, the good news was that she was a twenty plus size, she was a big babe. I started sweating, not from the exercise but my infuriation with ‘Mr’ who had been leading me on. I left in haste, that was four months ago.

A friend phoned out of the blue she was visiting me,  in fact, she was at the security gate. Looking around the flat, I quickly grabbed the two plates under the settee, my Chinese phone had to go back into my bag, pure water sachets, who drinks those? I hid the ten remaining sachets in my laundry box.  The dried hide on the kitchen top went into the oven. I tried a final look around

Mmm wonders never cease, I need to tell this story o. I assumed by proposals were being binned but guess what, someone is recycling my proposals. My friend told me a big job was in the pipeline and she brought out her proposal. It’s a 60:40 split she informed me. I looked at the proposal ‘eewo’, it was the same I had submitted two months ago.

Company X had given my proposal to someone else, they had replaced my company name, I thought my glasses was playing up, I proceeded to clean them. I informed my friend that she had my proposal in her hand; she went on to inform me not anymore. She proceeded to inform me I must learn to do the needful, otherwise monkey will be working and baboon will be chopping.

The cheese had moved for her and things were falling in pleasant, places, she went on to inform me that she does not drink pure water; it is always bottled water, not even ‘Cway’.

As she was talking to me she handed me two empty rumpled sachets of pure water that I had hidden at the side of the settee, yucks! I had missed them; with a straight face I collected the empty sachets. Although I had spent four hours in the gym, my legs were somewhat weak, not sure what had caused the weakness being caught out or my proposal in my friend’s hand.

Well you learn to live another day.

Nigerian participants in the ponzi scheme MMM are losing patience with it, a week after the resumption of service and promise to begin payment.

One Hayat Mohammed said: “I really need help. I provided help of 50000 now I made a request to get help, the request was processed but I’ve not being matched with another participant who will pay me. They won’t even pick my calls. So my money is lost, isn’t it? Last time I checked, this was supposed to be a platform where we would be able to tender our problems for solutions. I guess they don’t care anymore since participants have grown in population.”
Harrison Ita Etim posted: “I am still in the same shit too till today!”
Owhotemu Maryjane said: “What is really going on with MMM? If it’s gone you should let us the participants know. And why is that when someone wants to GH it will show or create error? You guys had a month to sort this out during the so-called break! So what then is this so called withdrawal limit that you are now talking about?
From Santos Maemi came this: “To all Nigerians please wake up. This is totally a scam. Don’t be blind!!!” whileChristopher Chinedu said: “If I knew that this would happen, I shouldn’t have become a participant. Let’s admit we have lost our money. That is business I guess, lose or gain. Somebody has been matched with different people, 4 to be precise and they have not paid him now, many days and month after. Hmmm so who is going to pay who? I think I have cried enough, it’s time for me to clean my eyes now and forget my N700,000. This is not my end.”
A cross section of participants interviewed in Ado Ekiti fear that their money is gone.
Tope Aladeniyi who said he was to be paid a day before the scheme was shut down in December said he learnt some people received little payments but he was yet to be matched for payment.
“At the moment, I have not been matched, and last year we were told that once the scheme resumed on January 14, they would be the ones to release those who were ready to be matched even if you were due for payment,” Aladeniyi said.
Another participant, Sola Abidakun, who provided help in November and asked for help on January 13, said he was matched with four persons but only two paid.
“I was only paid N4000 and N10,000, leaving two failed transactions waiting to be rematched,” he said.
A top guider of the scheme, Bode Wilson, while explaining the reason for delayed payment said that the number of people requesting for payment was higher than the number providing help.
“They have started matching people, but there will be a delay in payment especially for those that pledged huge amount of money. There should be enough money in the system before everybody can get paid. However, I’m sure we will all get paid”, Wilson said.
A lawyer, Femi Oyeniyi, warned that participants in the scheme may not be able to recover any money lost in the scheme because of the anonymity the business is shrouded with.
Oyeniyi said: “I doubt who do you sue, you don’t see the person you are doing business with, you can only sue the person you see and it is only the person you see physically that you can do business with.”
A broadcaster, Carol Oladeinde said: “I have a relation who did the MMM thing and was benefitting from it before they went off. I do not think that we should condemn the financial scheme (MMM) because a lot of people have benefited from it. I am into another networking stuff. I am a member of another one and it is working.
“Yes, I will continue with mine because I know what I am benefiting from it. I can’t go anywhere to borrow money so if I am involved in a financial scheme where I see someone give me an indirect loan and even increase my opportunity to get more, why won’t I continue?
“Those condemning this networking thing are people who are comfortable. They have now turned to experts! Unfortunately, they who are experts are not participants so they don’t know of what benefit it has been to us. If we had other easy schemes, we would have joined. And for your information, in all these, there is no particular place where money is kept. It is like a cooperative one person gives money to another, so payment of course, could be gradual if some people have not complied with the deadline.
Martins Okafor, a participant investors in Awka, still believes in the scheme.
He told Saturday Nation that those who have not received any payment were those who have not been matched for payments, especially those invested shortly before the break.
Another investor, Miss Blessing Nwankwo was also optimistic that her investment would not be lost
She said she was willing to forfeit  N10,000 of the N20,000 she invested, adding that she had no regrets whatsoever.
Mrs Chiamaka Udu a participant in Port Harcourt said: “ We thank God that we are able to be alive to see today.
“The last time when you came to my house to talk to me, I told you I was going to die but I think there is hope. What is happening now is that those of us with big funds are not being paid now. They told us that we should wait; that after providing help for those with small amount they will consider us.”
Mr Geoffrey Nnamdi said: “My brother, I ‘m yet to understand these people. Though they are paying some, when I clicked help they rejected my request saying I should wait but I need this money.
“I don’t want the extra they would add on the money. What I need now is my deposit. I don’t think I will provide help to anybody again as soon as my money is paid to me. We are hoping that our money should be given to us.
Another customer, Mr Davies Onyema reacted this way, “Please, I don’t want to say anything, I almost committed suicide last time. I was very happy when I heard the news of their coming back. I have entered forty days of praying and fasting over my condition with MMM. How can they return and tell me that they are not going to provide help to me, so when are they going to provide help?”
Victoria John of Nyanya near Abuja said: “I was scared when they froze the account but I’m  glad they are back.
“ I’ve not received my money, they said that they will be paying in batches so I’m waiting for my turn. I just want to collect my money and stop. I pray they pay me.”
Another Abuja resident Nkiru Silvester confirmed that some of her friends and colleagues have been paid but said: “The truth is that even if I don’t get paid, I won’t be so upset or lose sleep over it because I had invested about five times before the last time.
I usually don’t put in so much and I made my money. They asked us to be patient; that they will pay in batches which they have begun doing.
“My friend was paid as soon as payment started and my colleague was also paid recently.
“So I’m praying that I get paid. There are so many people waiting to be paid, which is why it is taking so long. MMM is not the only scheme that I am involved in.”

    Advice for married women

    SEX IS FOOD!!!!!!!

Sex is not all about making children.

You must be a different woman to your husband every time. Seduce your husband, don’t always allow your husband to ask for sex. There must be no timetable for sex. Be creative, don’t be predictable. Give him what he wants. If you lose influence over your husband, you have lost womanhood. Be part of your husband plans.

When a man is sexually satisfied, he is emotionally stable. Stop saying, is it food ? Yes, sex is food!!!

As a wife, try to invest in yourself spiritually so you can adequately support him. Build yourself as his prayer warrior so that you will not be forced to pray at the end of your life.

Don’t allow your husband to provide all your needs, he is not a money making machine. Iron sharpens iron, try to reciprocate.

You are meant to support each other spiritually, financially, physically and morally through thick and thin. You are a builder….Wise woman buildeth her home. Women need wisdom to build their homes. Do not be too outspoken, know when to talk, when to listen and when to be quiet.

Love your husband with all your heart, never tell him, if not because of my children, remember you’ve known him before the arrival of those children.

Pamper your husband, put his head on your chest and pray for him. Give him unannounced kiss from the back…. mwahhhhhh, don’t be too holy to kiss in the public. He is your husband for God sake. Be romantic joooo, it is good for the heart. Some people are not happy that you’re happy in that marriage, proof them wrong that you love him and he is your crown.

Always feel good when you hold him. Don’t look 50 while you’re still under 40, it drives men crazy. Always keep fit regardless of your age or body.

    To men:
Do not take a woman who does all these for granted!
Pamper her, pray for her, cherish her, love her, support her financially, make her feel like your woman! God bless you and your marriages.
