APC appoints Onyirimba to lead Renewed Hope Agenda in Enugu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the appointment of Mazi Dr. Ezenwa Onyirimba as leader of the Renewed Hope Agenda in Enugu State, with a strategic focus on the 2027 general elections.

According to Dr. Onyirimba, the appointment was ratified through the office of the party’s National Youth Leader, Hon. Dr. Dayo Israel.

The new assignment mandates Onyirimba to mobilise grassroots support for the APC and advance the national development agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Party sources described Onyirimba as a seasoned mobiliser with a strong record of political strategy and youth engagement.

Before his latest appointment, Onyirimba served as Director-General of the APC Youth and Student Council and was a key member of the Stakeholders Relations Directorate under Mallam Nuhu Ribadu in the Presidential Campaign Council.

In his new capacity, Onyirimba is expected to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda deep into the grassroots of Enugu State and consolidate the party’s presence across local communities.

The party expressed confidence that his experience in political organisation and stakeholder engagement would help galvanise support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid both in Enugu State and across the country.

  • No court order against Onyejeocha, says Abia APC legal adviser

No court order against Onyejeocha, says Abia APC legal adviser

The Abia chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports that the Federal High Court issued an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate or prosecute the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

The party’s Legal Adviser, Vigilus Nwankwo, described the claims as politically motivated, aimed at discrediting the minister ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In an interview monitored on Arise News, Nwankwo clarified that the court merely granted Amobi Ogah an order of leave, a procedural approval to apply for an order of mandamus, and not a substantive order directing INEC to act.

He said: “The court is yet to make any order compelling INEC. What was granted was only an order of leave for him to apply for an order of mandamus. He is yet to apply for that order, so it has not been granted.”

The APC legal adviser stated that the suit was part of a wider political scheme to weaken Onyejeocha’s growing influence within Abia politics, describing it as a pre-emptive move ahead of future elections.

“All this tango is coming because of the future elections in 2027. The Minister is being targeted because she remains the face of the APC in Abia and enjoys strong grassroots support,” Nwankwo said.

Nwankwo further maintained that the basis of the suit had already been settled during the 2023 election litigation process. He explained that both the Tribunal and the Court of Appeal made no findings against Onyejeocha when Ogah challenged her election victory.

According to him, the present case amounts to issue estoppel, as it seeks to reopen a matter already determined by a competent court. He added that the Court of Appeal’s decision to void the election was based on technical grounds, specifically the non-presentation of polling agents as witnesses, rather than any allegation of forgery.

Onyejeocha said she remains focused on her responsibilities in President Tinubu’s administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda and will not be distracted by politically motivated claims.

It had been widely reported that a Federal High Court in Abuja granted a member of the House of Representatives, Amobi Godwin Ogah, leave to compel the INEC to prosecute the Minister of State for Labour, Onyejeocha, for alleged forgery of election results in 62 polling units during the 2023 general elections.

Justice M.G. Umar of the Abuja Federal High Court, in his ruling dated September 23, 2025, on an ex-parte motion brought by Ogah, said he was satisfied that the applicant had placed relevant materials in his affidavit to warrant the judgment.

Onyejeocha had dragged Ogah, representing Isikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State, to the National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal after the 2023 elections, claiming victory.

But Ogah accused her of forging the results she tendered before the tribunal and Onyejeocha eventually lost the case.

*Court orders Speaker, Chief Judge, others to show cause

Bayelsa Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has sued the House of Assembly, the Speaker, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and othera over alleged plot to impeach him.

In an originating summons, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/2212025, Ewhrudjakpo alleged among others, that members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly were being pressured to impeach him for failing to resign, like the governor, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on whose platform they got to office.

Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri, recently resigned for the PDP but with the Deputy Governor failing to resign his membership of the PDP as well.

In the suit filed on his behalf at the Federal High Court in Abuja, by his lawyer, Reuben Egwuaba, it was alleged that members of the House of Assembly were currently being plotting to impeach Ewhrudjakpo.

It was also alleged that some Local Government Chairmen, including that of Sagbama Local Government Area, Mrs. Alice Tange, are also being threatened with sack for allegedly failing to abandon the PDP along with the governor.

On October 27, after listening to Egwuaba, who moved an ex-parte motion, Justice Emeka Nwite ordered the defendants to appear before the court to show cause why the interim reliefs being sought against them by the plaintiff should not be granted.

Justice Nwite, in the October 27 ruling, held that that the interest of justice will be met by issuing an order for all the defendants to appear and show cause why an order of interim injunction should not be granted against them pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed by the plaintiff

The judge adjourned till November 13 for the defendants to show cause, failing which he would proceed to hear the motion on notice.

The interim reliefs being sought in the motion on notice includes an order restraining the defendants from removing or impeaching Ewhrudjakpo by disregarding the provision of Section 188(5), (6), (7)(a), (b), (8), (9) and (11) and Section 36(1) of the Constitution based on his decision not to defect/decamp from the PDO to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any registered political party before the expiration of his four years tenure as an elected deputy governor of Bayelsa state pending hearing of the motion on notice.

He also wants an order restraining the defendants from initiating impeachment notice, impeachment proceedings/meetings of the Bayelsa state House of Assembly against him on his decision not to defect/decamp from the PDP to the APC before the expiration of his four years tenure as an elected Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state pending the hearing of the motion on notice.

Ewhrudjakpo also wants an order restraining the defendants from conducting any meeting, sitting, conference for the purpose of initiating or igniting impeachment proceedings against him as well as an order restraining the defendants from recognizing and dealing with the appointment of any member of the APC as the Deputy Governor of the state.

He is also praying the the court for an order restraining the IGP, the DG of the SSS and the Bayelsa State AG from withdrawing his security protection as Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state pending the hearing of the motion on notice.

You can’t influence North against Tinubu, Alawuje tells Atiku, Obi

As political momentum builds toward the 2027 general elections, Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, founder of the Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ) and a key figure in the Tinubu Support Movement, has declared that “Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have neither the influence nor the credibility to turn the North against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

In a strongly worded statement, Alawuje cautioned politicians “engaging in underground ethnic and religious politics,” insisting that every move is being closely monitored.

“Be warned. There is no political or ethnic scheme you can execute without the awareness of our agents. The North will not be deceived again,” he said.

Recalling Tinubu’s pivotal role in the 2015 elections, Alawuje said history will not forget how the then–APC National Leader “stood firmly with the North when it mattered most.”

“At that crucial moment, Tinubu traversed the region, convincing millions who once opposed Buhari to support him. The North has not forgotten that selfless act,” he stated.

He described the North as “a region of loyalty and honour,” stressing that it would “reward Tinubu with its votes again in 2027.”

The Tinubu loyalist accused Atiku of masking a “Northern agenda” while alleging that Peter Obi was “hiding behind religious sentiments.”

“Both are playing hypocritical politics of the highest order. No propaganda will turn the North against its trusted ally from the Southwest,” he declared.

Citing recent remarks by the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness Muhammad Sanusi II, who noted that “Nigeria has pulled back from the brink of economic collapse,” Alawuje commended President Tinubu’s “bold and transformative reforms.”

“Tinubu is performing exceptionally well—transforming Nigeria’s economic and developmental landscape. Nigerians only need patience,” he added.

Praising the President’s resilience amid criticism, Alawuje said Tinubu’s governance had silenced detractors.

“Despite social media ‘economists’ sowing fear, Tinubu has proven them wrong. He is a courageous and visionary leader—an economic reformer and a true champion of human development,” he said.

Alawuje urged Nigerians to support Tinubu’s ongoing reforms and resist divisive politics, saying, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made us proud. He has laid a solid foundation for Nigeria’s future.”

The supporters converged on Osogbo City Stadium and marched through Ayetoro, Igbona, Olounkoro, Old-Garage, Orisunbare, Ola-Iya, Fakunle to Ogo-Oluwa which covered 5km before they terminated at Tinubu/Shettima campaign office.

They described the NIWA boss as the best aspirant with the capacity and ability to deliver victory for the party at the 2026 Gov race.

Former  Osun Speaker, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, said the walk was not just a show of strength for Oyebamiji but also a reaffirmation that APC remained the party to beat in Osun.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his leadership and performance, saying his achievements had rekindled faith in the party across the nation.

‎“This Unity Walk is to tell Osun people that APC is united and ready for 2026. Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji stands out as a competent, tested, and trusted aspirant with a track record of performance both as a two-time commissioner and as MD of Osun Investment Company Limited,” Owoeye said.

Addressing newsmen, ex-commissioner, Hon. Adebayo Adeleke, said the large turnout of APC to support Oyebamiji was a testament of massive love by the party ahead of the December 13 primary.

“It is obvious that Oyebamiji is an aspirant to beat in the APC primary. We are happy for this large turnout. We are ready and prepared for the primary election, any day, anytime we are ready.

“There is no aspirant in APC that is not competent. They are all competent. But what we are saying, is Bola Oyebamiji is above all when it comes to APC as we speak, he is more acceptable, a gentleman, knowledgeable, and a financial expert. He is the one that can strengthen the economic situation of Osun,” he stated

‎Kehinde Ayantunji, Special Adviser to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, lauded President Tinubu, Chief Bisi Akande, and Oyetola for their continued support for the APC since 2022, adding that their efforts had strengthened the party and rekindled public trust.

Obaseki not on the run, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has dismissed insinuations that former Governor Godwin Obaseki was on the run.

It said the presence of the former Governor in Edo State would make the incumbent Governor very uncomfortable.

The Edo PDP said Obaseki would appear before any panel or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) if invited.

It said Obaseki was not interested in running for any senatorial elections having ruled the state for eight years.

Former spokesman of the party and immediate past Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, said it was laughable for the incumbent administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo to accuse Obaseki of doing nothing.

Nehikhare said Obaseki constructed 1300 kilometres of road across the state and built institutions across the state.

According to him: “Obaseki is not on the run from anywhere. He is on a fellowship in a university in the United Kingdom. In any case, his presence in Edo will make the present Governor very uncomfortable. Obaseki is not going to contest any election in Edo State. He has spent his eight years unlike other the other Governor who contested for the Senate. Obaseki has served the 18 local government for eight years.

“He is a free man. Whosoever wants him, either EFCC, DSS should write to him. Governor Obaseki has served his term, Okpebholo should do his own.

“Obaseki is staying away because we want this government to its space. The problem they have with Obaseki is what we called Obaseki derailment syndrome. This is why it is convenient for them to say Obaseki did not do anything.

“The Okpebholo government is acting as if it is in the opposition while the PDP is in government. PDP would have been happy to have a weak government but because that will demean the people of Edo State. The APC keep going back to the past. Those facilities Obaseki built are still there.”

Publicity Secretary of the party, Dan Osa-Ogbegie, said the fly-over being constructed by Okpebholo would not have any economic impact on the people.

  • Anambra Gov poll: We must resist vote buying, says INEC chairman

Anambra Gov poll: We must resist vote buying, says INEC chairman

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan on Tuesday warmed any attempt to induce voters before or during the November 8 governorship election in Anambra election must be resisted and curtailed.

Speaking at the first consultative meeting with members of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), he said  political actors must join hands to combat the menace of vote buying as a way of restoring the integrity of the electoral process.

Amupitan said the Commission was working with the relevant law enforcement agencies, especially the anti-graft agencies, to stop vote buyers from contaminating the electoral process, saying “security agents cannot afford to create an environment that allows vote buyers to operate during the Anambra election.

“Together, let us combat vote buying, uphold the values of democracy and work relentlessly for the credibility of our elections. The path ahead may be challenging, but if we stand united, there is nothing we cannot achieve”.

The INEC boss said following a week-long, comprehensive readiness assessment conducted across Anambra State, the Commission is confident in affirming its full preparedness for the polls.

According to him, the commission recently conducted mock accreditation exercise in 12 selected polling units in 6 Local Government Areas of Anambra State, using the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to test run its facilities and readiness for the election.

He said: “Although we encountered some network challenges, efforts are being made to ensure a seamless election on 8th November, 2025, and we are ready for large-scale deployment on Election Day”.

He disclosed that the commission plan to deploy 24,000 personnel, adding that elections will be held in 5,718 of the 5,720 polling units in the State, adding that voting will not take place in the remaining two polling units due to the absence of registered voters while results will be collated at 326 ward centres, 21 Local Government Area centres, and finally at the State Collation Centre in Awka.

National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, said the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) remains fully committed to fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive on the strategic mobilisation of security forces during the electoral period, adding that this commitment is essential to ensuring the highest level of safety and security.

Represented by the Director of Internal Security, Hassan Yahaya Abdullahi, the NSA said robust security measures have been put in place, including enhanced surveillance, the deployment of sufficient security personnel, and improved intelligence gathering to prevent any attempt by disruptive elements or desperate politicians to undermine the electoral process.

He said the office of the NSA was proactively engaging with political party leaders and local stakeholders to send a clear message that violence will not be tolerated in our elections, adding that all participating political parties and their candidates must advocate for peace and encourage their supporters to conduct themselves in a manner that honours the integrity of our electoral system.

The NSA said any form of violence during the elections will be met with a strong, uncompromising response, saying “the Nigeria Police Force, as the lead agency for election security, along with other security agencies, stands prepared and resolute to maintain a secure environment during the Anambra State governorship elections.”

Lawal, who was represented by Osun APC Secretary, Alhaji Alao Olabisi Kamoru, told the visiting membership validation team that the party has put everything in place for them in order to make the programme a success.

Malumi explained to the APC State Working Committee and the chairmen of the party in all the local government council areas in attendance that the exercise is not about the registration of new members into the party but rather to work on the existing members.

While seeking the co-operation of all the party’s chairmen in all the local government council areas, Malumi disclosed that every member of the party must be financial members and that they all have the right to vote and be voted for.

According to him: “Any credible members of the party must pay N200 per month for one year each and they have the right to contest for any positions.

“Some members have left the party, some are dead while others have just joined. We have a mechanism of authenticating if any members of our party have paid.

“The ward secretaries and ward organising secretaries and the similar officers of the party at the local government level would have crucial roles to play in the party’s membership revalidation exercise”, he explained.

He also disclosed that the exercise which commenced on the 20th of October, 2025 would be rounded off on the 31st of October, 2025 in line with the APC National Headquarters’ outline for the 2026 Osun State gubernatorial primary election.

  • Oyebanji: The man with magic wand

Oyebanji: The man with magic wand

    By Ifedayo Sayo

Many times in Nigeria, elections are often seen as war that must be won at all cost. This accounted for thuggery and all forms of malpractices that accompanied elections in the country resulting in acrimonious legal tussles.

But this is about to change with the coming governorship election in Ekiti State. This is not to say that there will not be competition but it is almost a settled election, as there is unanimity among the people that the incumbent, Biodun Oyebanji should be allowed to spend eight years at a stretch for the first time in the history of the state. Almost all the segments of the state, including opposition leaders who could have provided the most needed opposition are lined up behind the governor to help him realise his second term ambition.

To these political gladiators the incumbent governor, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, has lived up to expectation, particularly in the area of infrastructural development, prudent management of the state finances and for giving all stakeholders a sense of belonging in the scheme of things.

While this may come as a surprise to many outsiders, it is indeed a product of hard work embarked upon by the governor since he assumed office. He was able to bring on board notable leaders like Chief Afe Babalola, SAN, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, Chief Deji Fasuan and a host of others who are not politicians. He visited them regularly to brief them on the programmes of his administration. They in turn advise him and buy-in into what he is doing to improve the lot of the people.

READ ALSO: Enablers of Kanu self-destructive behaviour

Having participated in different administrations since the return of democracy, Oyebanji understands the politics of the state like any other local boy. He is the first governor that could be regarded as a local boy. He schooled and grew up in the state unlike his predecessors.

He started as Special Assistant on Parliamentary Affairs (SAPA) to the former Governor Niyi Adebayo, rising to the position of Chief of Staff to the governor. He later served as commissioners in different ministries under the administration of former Governor Kayode Fayemi and ended it as Secretary to the State Government.

His experience in these positions became handy as the governor of the state. He not only played the street cards to bring everybody on board of his government, he was able to get opposition leaders who could have proved a stumbling block to his second term ambition to line behind his administration. These include the former governor of the state, Ayo Fayose, former deputy governor, Senator Biodun Olujimi and many others. These people sing his praises everywhere they go as the best thing to have happened to the state.

Fayose at different fora described him as “the best person to govern the state currently”. He said Oyebanji has become a bridge-builder who brought all on board his administration and made himself accessible to all leaders. He believed that Oyebanji will not break his record in office but surpass it. It was therefore not a surprise that he joined other stakeholders in the state to endorse his second term ambition.

What actually surprised many is the fact Oyebanji had always carried himself in many positions he occupied as a technocrat who would never seek electoral office. Though, he distinguished himself very well in his former offices to the admiration of many. Before he contested for the position of the governor many may have doubted that he would ever contest for elective office because of his usual refrain “I ‘m not a politician” for which he was known.

His decision to seek the governorship position came to many as a surprise, having distanced himself from the ordinary Nigerian politician. His ambition at that time was not helped by the fact that he has always been seen as a frank and blunt personality who does not hide his feelings or position on any issue. Agree or disagree with him, he does not queue behind the crowd and would speak out his mind on any issue.

He was also a different politician that will not sugar-coat any position he has on any issue. Oyebanji will speak his mind bluntly, not minding who is offended. But the fact that he has weathered the storm and came out as the only candidate of the All Progressives Congress {APC} will always surprise many.

Apparently, his integrity, humility and empathy made way for him. He often displayed his omoluabi attributes which attracted both the young and old who regularly flooded his country home in Ikogosi every weekend to interact with him.

As a man of the people who daily goes on the streets to get first and information about the needs of the people, Oyebanji is fully abreast of development in the state. This has earned him the support and the respect of the people. He knew that the failure of his predecessors to get elected following the expiration of their first term stemmed from their limited interaction with the people.

So, Oyebanji would not allow this to stop his second term ambition as he listened and personally interacted with the people. He is easily accessible through his telephone lines as he regularly attends to calls by the people.

Aside from unifying the political gladiators and the people behind him, Oyebanji has been praised for his prudent economic management of the state. He was credited to have paid gratuities to retirees to the tune of N14.6 billion while pensions are regularly paid to enable them live a better life in retirement.

Recently, Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Ahmed Usman Ododo were in the state to commission some of the roads constructed by Oyebanji. They were full of praise for him for having lived up to the expectations of his people. Also, the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zach Adedeji who commissioned the state revenue building was amazed that the governor has not failed to deliver on his electoral promises.

As the state enters into election mood, the stage is set for an amazing time devoid of any act of crisis that could mar the next governorship election. More importantly, all the former governors of the state, Niyi Adebayo, Ayo Fayose, Segun Oni and Kayode Fayemi, though belonging to different political parties have already endorsed his second term ambition.

Besides, the political gladiators, various unions and associations have made their position known that they will support the governor, thereby giving an impression that the state will for the first have a successful election devoid of any acrimony.
