Curb economic travails with youth empowerment, Ikechukwu advises government

Founder of LuckyBay Homes, Ujomu Lucky Ikechukwu, has been talking on how the government can address the economic hardship in the land through empowerment of youths.

He is one of the players in the property development sector with the vision of providing affordable luxurious housing.

The company was borne out of the yearning to reduce the housing deficit in Nigeria; a social problem Ujomu Lucky Ikechukwu and other competitors are determined to tackle frontally.

He started small so much so that all he had as his academic qualification was the National Certificate of Education (NCE). However, he was determined about becoming successful. Born into a family of 12 as the fifth child, it was easy for him to relate with life on the street.

The 47-year-old, who is from Ibusa in Oshimili Local Government Area of Delta State, started his career in the real estate industry as a broker in 2009. He founded LuckyBay Homes four years after.

The first major project it embarked upon was developing two five-bedroom duplexes at Lekki Palm City Estate around Ajah, Lagos—which launched it into significant success. The real estate firm currently has business offices in Abuja and Lagos, with the vision to expand to other major states in the country.

    Recalling the years of struggles,

Ujomu Lucky Ikechukwu explained the helplessness of many youths.

“I know and I have seen practical examples that when youths are empowered, they can take care of their families and increase the country’s GDP, and in the long run, poverty will reduce drastically in Nigeria.

“Growing from a very poor family, I know how difficult life is on the street, and what people are going through to survive. So, I think it is important that lifelines should be extended to our youths,” the CEO of LuckyBay Homes said.

The father of two, who married from Edo State, said despite the economic conundrum that the country has found itself, the real estate sector, which continues to contribute immensely to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), remains the most viable investment opportunity, as the sector is being driven by demand.

“Right now, real estate in Nigeria is the surest investment that guarantees 100% profit returns every year. In boom or bust, real estate is a viable sector. We have seen the steady expansion of the Nigerian property market over the years with more people getting employed in the sector,” Ikechukwu said.

Utomi advocates sustainable living at estate launch

Renowned economist, Professor Patrick Utomi, has harped on the importance of sustainable living to foster the growth of real estate projects in urban areas.

He spoke during the launch of Greenland by Pertinence in the Yegunda Zone of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

Addressing a diverse audience of investors, homeowners, and other real estate stakeholders, Prof. Utomi emphasized the significance of incorporating sustainable practices into everyday life.

“Today, we stand at a critical juncture where our actions as individuals and communities profoundly impact the health of our planet. Projects like Greenland serve as exemplars of how sustainable living can be seamlessly integrated into our built environment,” remarked Utomi

The Greenland project, designed as an eco-friendly hub, is launching at a time when there is a growing awareness among consumers about the environmental impact of real estate development, leading to increased demand for sustainable homes, eco-friendly communities, and green building practices.

Utomi, who not only graced the event but also demonstrated his confidence in the project by purchasing a plot of land within the estate, commended the developers as well as the project’s commitment to shaping a greener and more sustainable urban landscape in Nigeria’s bustling metropolis.

He said: “Imagination is the very beginning of everything. Once you have a good imagination, you can translate it into all kinds of innovation.

“Here we are in a place soon to be the very centre of the economic hub of Lagos, and it (Greenland) is a place where you can live a serene life right in the middle of it all. It takes imagination to conceptualise this, and it takes effort and creativity to bring it alive.

“I think in a few years when you come to this area, you may not be able to recognise it. With the way this industrial hub is evolving, I think that when you come, you will see an enormous commercial development but then you will see a getaway place in Greenland, and that is what is thrilling about it all.

“I’m very proud that the Pertinence team has been able to do this, and I’m looking forward to being a part of this community someday in the future.”

Utomi went on to project a significant surge in land prices in the Ibeju-Lekki area over the next decade, highlighting the potential for substantial capital appreciation for early investors of the estate.

At the launch, co-founders of Pertinence Group, Dr Sunday Olorunsheyi, and Mr Wisdom Ezekiel, also delivered inspiring speeches, extolling the virtues of Greenland and highlighting its unparalleled features that promise a healthy and sustainable lifestyle for residents.

The landed property project is expected to be powered only by renewable energy sources, with over 400 trees to be planted across the estate. Despite its nearness to the proposed Lekki International Airport, the project is designed to minimise air and noise pollution to achieve serenity and comfort for residents.
