  • Beautify your home for Xmas

    Beautify your home for Xmas

BRING festive cheer to your home with Christmas colour schemes, seasonal foliage and twinkling fairy lights.

As we all know, the traditional time for putting up Christmas decorations is the first day of December.

Generally, Christmas decorations are as simple as putting up a Christmas tree and a festive wreath on the front door or gate.

For others, decorating the home for Christmas is such an important family tradition that the decoration is a well-organised and thorough annual event where all members of the family participate.

For most families, Christmas is the time to really celebrate goodwill to all men; it’s about the family and close friends, good fun, good times, togetherness, remembering Christmases past.

Xmas trees: The Christmas tree has become one of the best known festive symbols. A highly decorated evergreen tree, with coloured lights ablaze, inspires warm memories of Christmas.

Decide where to place the tree, giving it a focal point, but keeping it out of high traffic areas where it might be bumped or where someone might trip on light cords. Place lighting on first, then wreath as they both need to be spaced well and tree ornaments could be bumped off if they are in the way.

Arrange lights about halfway from the tips of the branches to the trunk of the tree, as well as on the perimeter of the tree.

Christmas lighting:  In addition to lighting your Christmas tree, it’s nice to have window lighting that shines out.

Table centre piece: A table centre piece can be an excellent focal point to inspire your visitors. So, go for the table centre pieces with the Chrismas logo.

Table settings: Use Christmas tableware for every meal in December.

Bows and ribbons: When it comes to bows and ribbons, you don’t have to stick with red and green and the colours you choose should blend with the rest of your decor.

BELTS are the must-have fashion items for men. Fashionable or not, belts are compulsory accessories for men. Elegant and quality belts with unique buckles can be combined with one or two accessories to get a versatile, clean and sexy look.

Mind you, the colour of your belt must blend with the colour of your shoes. Matching any outfit was never made easier than a solid belt with matching shoes.

  • Classy opera pump

    Classy opera pump

DO you know the shoes men are strutting these days? They are Opera pumps.

Opera pumps or court shoes are the elaborate formal footwear for men.

They are usually made very low, in keeping with the historical shape, to better display the feet.

Some pairs also have a decorative quilted lining, while most are leather-line.

The upper leather in opera pumps is usually lasted with the wholecut method, so it only has one seam behind the heel, and this seamlessness makes the shoe type seem ever daintier and cleaner.

Opera pumps are the most difficult form in occasional dressing because they are not made by too many factories, the fit must be exact, and the shoe cannot be appropriated to everyday wear.

They are polished to perfection and befitting of the most elegant black-tie affairs.

It was an event where the best of fashion were on display.

The label showcased unique intricate hand-beaded wedding couture and evening wear.

Popularly known as Og, her passion for designing started when she used to cut up her mother’s old curtains to sew up her designs and alter her own outfits because she was skinny.

“A friend told me about this fashion house, Berry’s Couture, that needed a designer. So I went for the interview. The woman who owned the outfit asked to see my portfolio and I got the job.

“Seven months later, I left to start Style Temple,” she said.

The show might have come and gone, but many are still giving kudos to Og for her glamorous and glitzy masterpieces.

She has been credited with blazing the trail in turning fabrics into some of the most glamorous works of art.

EMERGING men’s wear fashion label, DAMSCO by Damilola Otufodunrin, has presented its debut collection, The Report.

This particular collection was majorly inspired by his father’s profession.

“I grew up in a home filled with newspapers. It is no surprise that my mind was focused on a newspaper print fabric while preparing for this collection.

“The Report aims at achieving two things: first, reporting that DAMSCO has come to stay as a men’s wear fashion brand and second, helping the non-adventurous fashion lover to stay within the confines of what he perceives to be the safest colours, white and black,” Damilola said.

Damilola, a graduate of History and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos, is an extreme lover of arts. He started out as a fashion illustrator and later established himself more as a designer with focus on men’s wear.

His ultimate aim is to be able to produce ready-to-wear men’s wear that would match international standard and raise the bar of the Nigerian fashion industry as an integral part of Africa’s economic growth.

    Damilola hails from Ogun State.
