    Suitable!

UNCONVENTIONAL suit dresses are now mostly preferred by several of today’s women, judging by the rate at which traditional styles are going out of fashion.

Gorgeous two or three-piece suits are wardrobe essential dresses that usually feature a lovely jacket, camisole and smart skirt or pants. Besides style, the choice of suit colours has since become competitive. Nowadays, the suit dress doesn’t have to be black or navy blue anymore. There are now so many alternatives. And the rule this season is the black or grey/harsh. The shape, design, style and colour of your suit matter a lot. Women’s suits have moved from the modest three-piece style to more complex and fitting designs.

Things to consider when wearing a suit

Your camisole must blend with the rest of your outfit.

Your tie must complement your look; and for a cool effect, it should be stylishly knotted.

Your bag colour must complement your shoe colour.

Cuff links are your best bet instead of buttons for your shirt.

Your accessories must mingle with the rest of your outfit.

  • NCPC boss inaugurates medical team

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara, has inaugurated the Federal Medical Committee for the 2013 Christian pilgrimage exercise.

Inaugurating the committee in his office in Abuja recently, the NCPC helmsman charged members of the committee to maintain high sense of integrity and honesty in the discharge of their assignment. He urged them not to be involved in any manipulation, but should ensure that honesty and integrity are considered always.

His words: “Let us agree that in honesty and integrity that we are able to give all”.

Mr. Opara stressed that the knowledge of man is limited, but only God has the ultimate knowledge, hence the need for the medical personnel to depend completely on God’s direction and not their own professional knowledge. Consequently, he urged them to always give praise and appreciation to God for what he has done and what he will do in the characteristics of David in the Bible.

The NCPC boss scored the performances of the past federal medical committees in the last three and four years high, thus he tasked them to maintain the same tempo if possible to surpass their records.

  • Ife people celebrate Oranmiyan Festival

Oranmiyan was one of the seven sons of Okanbi, the only child of Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba.

The legend, Oranmiyan, despite being the grandson of Oduduwa was the pioneer Alaafin of Oyo. He was famed as a strong enigmatic leader who led his people into a path of greatness that lasted several centuries, leaving a heritage that lasts till today.

After establishing Oyo, he left and conquered the Benin people and again founded the Benin Kingdom. After several wars and conquests, Oranmiyan returned to Ife, the cradle of the Yoruba and was the sixth Ooni of Ife.

He later joined his ancestors. The place where the staff of Oranmiyan lies in Ile-Ife, Osun State is now a centre of tourist attraction. This great legend that has continued to shape the destiny of a race deserves to be celebrated as a unifying force for the Yoruba people. Oranmiyan is a unique name that has occupied a column of Yoruba history as a warrior, conqueror and legend.

An organization committed to the development of Tourism in Nigeria, FLABSY Travels & Tours has received the approval of the Ooni of Ife, Alaiyeluwa Oba Okunade Sijuwade, to organize a festival which would bring all Ife indigenes and the entire Yoruba at home and in diaspora like Brazil, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Cuba, United States of America etc. together and use the platform of the festival to identify and bring to the fore a unique and binding tradition for the Yoruba people, utilise the platform to propagate Oranmiyan as a central figure in Yorubaland and explore all creative means to ensure that through the festival celebrations, Oranmiyan staff becomes a tourist haven, ensure that the festival is enlisted in the calendar of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation and the World Tourism Calendar, achieve a top-of-the-mind festival event for Odun Oranmiyan and create awareness for Ife indigenes at home and abroad use the platform to drive investment opportunity to Ile-Ife.

The festival event would be devoid of Political affiliations or leanings such that every Yoruba man would be eager to attend yearly and attract corporate organizations that may use the festival opportunity to showcase their brands as well as compete for sponshorship of the festival to achieve optimum mileage and revenue generation.

The significance of Odun Oranmiyan cannot be over-emphasized, as it is the festival that will unites the people together. It is also a celebration of a deity and warrior of the Yoruba. Therefore, FLABSY Travels & Tours is determined to celebrate Odun Oranmiyan 2013 in August 2013 so well that people will want to be associated with the annual festival not just as Ife people but as citizens of Osun and Yoruba in general. Oranmiyan is arguably the most deified of the whole Yoruba deities. He was only the Yoruba King that was confirmed to have established other towns, like Oyo and Benin, became their King and later returned to his abode and also became a King before his eventual transformation as denoted in the Oranmiyan Cenotaph.

The Oranmiyan Cenotaph is a renowned tourist centre that has drawn million of visitors to Ile-Ife and has continued to do same. The name has appeared in many cultural and historical books. Oranmiyan is a religion to many in Yoruba land as it is being worshiped while they visit the Cenotaph to pay homage and reverence to the deity.

  • Is it possible to fall in love with someone you have never met?

Laura: Good morning ma. I have a problem with my relationship.

Adeola Agoro II:  Go on, let’s share it.

Laura: There is a guy whom I love so much. He is in Sweden and we have dated for six months. I havn’t seen him before but he has seen me when I was small before he travelled.

Adeola Agoro II: Yes… I’ reading, go on.

Laura: I got to know him through my sister and we dated for six months

Adeola Agoro II:  What is the problem with the relationship?

Laura:  He asked me to go to his family for them to know me, which I did. He broke up with me for no good reason. He blocked me on FB and stopped my number from calling him.

His family loves me so much they have talked to him but he gave them a deaf ear.

The cause of the problem is we were chatting one day when he told me that he wanted us to be chatting once a month. I asked him why and he told me that’s the way he wants it.  But he used his brother’s name to chat with me on FB.

I told him while I was chatting with him online that he said we should chat once a month and he was using his brother’s name to chat with.

Adeola Agoro II: You want to hear the truth?

    Laura: Yes ma

Adeola Agoro II: It is certain he could be married and doesn’t want this online relationship to spoil what he has. Why on earth would he be hiding you or hiding to chat with you under another name if not that he is trying to protect a more serious relationship?

    Laura: That’s true.

He told me he has a son with a white woman but they are not married and they don’t live together.

Adeola Agoro II:  You’re a very fine girl, so I will advise you not to waste your time chasing shadows. Most of these people abroad may not have valid residence papers except they marry citizens. At this point in his life, he is most likely to be trying to face the most important thing he’s abroad for – making a living. You may mean a lot to him emotionally, but he has to use his head in order to stay aboard poverty in a foreign land.

Laura: I’m madly in love with him ma, I don’t know what to do. There was a time he told me that he would like his parents to go and pay my dowry, I said no, that I haven’t seen him, that we should wait till he comes back.

Adeola Agoro II:  So many of our men abroad would really love to marry our girls, but I just explained to you the difficulties some of them experience to you. His intentions may be noble, but when reality comes knocking, they must follow it. On your part, yes, it is normal to fall in love with that man who professes love. For a young girl like you, it is even sweeter that he’s abroad and you may be thinking about the opportunities before you should he invite you to join him, but you have to face the reality on ground – he has constraints that may mar his chances abroad if he gives in to passion instead of proper reasoning and financial reality.

Laura: Ok i just have to move on with my life.

Adeola Agoro II: I guess so. Read me in The Nation this coming Saturday and get more hints for your concern. Please read some feedback below:

    1.      Yes it’s extremely possible to love someone you have never met. My boyfriend and I met online, and we did not meet for 5 months. I was totally in love with him long before we ever met. Now we have lived together over 3 years and we are extremely happy together. The heart knows no boundaries, no state lines, and no distance. You can love across the street or across the country it doesn’t make a difference. What you need to do is tell this person how you feel about them, so that they know how you feel, and find out if they feel the same way about you.

    2.      Don’t expect it to be easy though, relationships are harder than anything you see in the movies and long distance relationships are harder still. Your Mr. Right may not even be the one in Sweden, he could be living on the other side of town right now. But yes, it does happen, and it is entirely possible that it could happen to you.

    3.      Maybe one of you doesn’t want to feed the relationship with just skype and emails for years until maybe you can move. I’d say the chances are higher if you’re living in the same country with hi long term.

    4.      After you weigh up the logistics the expense and the sheer hassle you’ll soon find the notion of romance wears off. Ok…you fantasize about meeting and falling in love with someone from another country but why does he have to be Irish? It shouldn’t matter to you where the person is from and long distance relationships are hard and frustrating (especially when neither of you can move to live together).

    5.      Men in Sweden men are no better than men living in Nigerian. A lot of those abroad are disrespectful, sleazey, fat and ugly and very broke. Honestly I wouldn’t advise you to waste your life and time on him. Trust me.

  • Ogundaisi back on his feet

FOREMOST film industry commentator and promoter of the Censors Board New Distribution and Exhibition framework (NDEF), Mr. Yinka Ogundaisi, is back on his feet. The old man who had earlier cried out for help for some hernia and orthopedic surgeries, had a successful operations. He expresses gratitude to those who came to his aid in the cause of the travail.

In a letter to The Nation, the filmmaker said: “I thank everyone for all they did to get me restored to normal health. I am now back on my feet.”

He recalled a recent article in The Nation on the film distribution framework and expressed delight that some filmmaker who had earlier criticized the idea are now toeing its line he had always canvassed.

“I have always said that while cinema is good and essential as a supporting line, it is not the real market for our movies. No doubt after experiencing the situation first hand with his own movie; TANGO, Mahmood Ali-Balogun for example, has now found enough reasons to agree that for the Nigerian film industry to move forward, the shortest and the most viable route is through the cleansing and strengthening the DTH (direct to home) distribution, which of course means getting the NFVCB to complete the implementation of the NDEF.”

He emphasised that the film industry in Nigeria has perhaps, the last opportunity to get its acts together, using the bulk if not the entire N300 Billion FGN’s grant to focus on the development of DTH distribution infrastructure.

“There are abundant potentials in the industry for us to be financially self-dependent, if only we can correct all the anomalies in our distribution system. Even the persistent cries of the stakeholders for a new law on piracy are misplaced because all the loopholes that encourage piracy to flourish and which invariably do not allow for successful prosecution of those arrested are adequately taken care of in the NDEF.”

The only problem, he noted “ is that most people are yet to take the trouble of reading through the provisions of the NDEF, and the few who did appear not to have fully grasp its far-reaching objectives.”

Now that he is well, back on his feet and ready to continue the course, Ogundaisi said: “I am earnestly praying that we will not again allow politics of immediate self-interest to blind and divert us from doing what is right, not only for us but for generations yet unborn! I hope we can see soonest to do a comprehensive review of the happenings in the industry, particularly how the NDEF seeks to eliminate all the problems that the stakeholders are now battling to resolve without success.”

  • Ezaa Marks Oke Aku Festival

The New Yam Festival of the Igbo ( Iwa ji in Igbo language) is an annual harvest festival by the Igbo people held at the end of the rainy season in early August.

The Iwa ji Festival (literally “new-yam eating”) is practised throughout West Africa (especially in Nigeria and Ghana) and other African countries and beyond, symbolizing the conclusion of a harvest and the beginning of the next work cycle.

The celebration is a very culturally based occasion, tying individual Igbo communities together as essentially agrarian and dependent on yam.

Yams are the first crop to be harvested and are the most important crop of the region. The evening prior to the day of the festival, all old yams (from the previous year’s crop) are consumed or discarded. The next day, only dishes of yam are served, as the festival is symbolic of the abundance of the produce.

Traditionally, the role of eating the first yam is performed by the oldest man in the community or the king (igwe). This man also offers the yams to God, deities and ancestors. It is believed that the position bestows the privilege of being intermediaries between their communities and the gods of the land. The rituals are meant to express the gratitude of the communities to the gods for making the harvest possible, and they are widely followed despite more modern changes due to the influence of Christianity in the area.

The day is symbolic of enjoyment after the cultivation season, and the plenty is shared with friends and well-wishers. A variety of festivities mark the eating of new yam. Folk dances, masquerades, parades and parties create an experience that some participants characterize as “art”; the colourful festival is a spectacle of exhibited joy, thanks and community display.

Palm oil (mmanu nri) is used to eat the yam. Iwa ji also shares some similarities with the Asian Mid-Autumn Festival, as both are based on the cycles of the moon and are essentially community harvest festivals.

In recent times, the celebration, which used to be the greatest festival of the year in most communities in Igboland, has become endangered. In fact, some communities have stopped celebrating it except by a handful of the people who do so quietly.

Two major reasons have been blamed for this. The coming of western education and Christianity, especially as the celebration was seen as a pagan or traditional religion celebration.

However, in the land of Ezaa Ezekuna in Ebonyi State, the new yam festival known as Oke Aku Festival is still revered and celebrated with pomp and grandeur. The festival marks the commencement of a new calendar year for the Ezaa.

Ezaa are a north eastern Igbo sub-group in south eastern Nigeria. The Ezaa are direct descendants of Ezekuna and his wife, Anyigo. They are, therefore, often referred to as Ezaa Ezekuna.

Ezaa people live in virtually all three senatorial zones of Ebonyi State and beyond, but are concentrated in Ezaa North, Ezaa South, Onicha, Ishielu and Ohaukwu local government areas and even in some parts of Enugu State.

Onueke is the ancestral headquarters of the Ezaa, one of the most populous clans in Ebonyi State of Nigeria, hence the Oke Aku Festival takes place in the town.

The traditional Ezaa in these areas still return to Onueke to offer sacrifices to the graves of their progenitors. Coincidentally, Sacred Heart Parish, Onueke serves as the headquarters of Christianity for Ezaa Catholics.

Onueke has been quite important, politically speaking. It used to be the headquarters of the old Ezzikwo Division. It was also the headquarters of the old Ezaa Local Government Area. Right now, it doubles as the headquarters of the Ezaa South Local Government Area and Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone, comprising Ezaa South, Ezaa North, Ishielu and Ikwo local government areas.

Onueke derives its name from the famous Eke Imoha, one of the oldest and biggest markets in Ebonyi State. The Eke Imoha Market is central to the economic life of Ezaa people. This is where the people sell their rich agricultural produce. Mainly farmers, the Ezaa produse yams, cassava, rice, cocoyams, and many other crops in abundance.

These food crops, along with many other modern wares, are bought and sold in the Eke Market which is held every four days. The other markets in the Ezaa area include Awho, Nkwo, and Oryie. Eke is considered the first and biggest of these markets.Hence during this year’s celebration, the traditional rulers asked the person responsible for the recent facelift given to the market. And when the Chairman of the Ezaa South Local Government Area, Laz Ogbee, indicated that he was the one responsible, the traditional rulers immediately gave him a chieftaincy title of Ochia Aha 1 of Ezaa Ezekuna.

The seriousness and tenacity of purpose with which the people of the area have held on to the festival and their other traditions and customs is seen as a welcome development by Hon. Ogbee, himself a proud Ezaa man.

“It is good that we the Ezaa have continued to celebrate the Oke Aku Festival, especially in this era when serious efforts are being made to ensure that the Igbo language does not go into extinction”, said Hon Ogbee.

For the Ezaa, it signifies an end of a planting season, especially the planting of yam and the beginning of the consumption of new yam. Yam is so celebrated in the Ezaa land and the Igbo culture because yam is regarded as the king of crops.

The 2013 celebration was no different to that of previous editions. It was indeed a gathering of who is who in the Ezaa nation as well as invited friends across the nation during the grand finale at Ezaa Cultural Centre, Amana, Ezza South Local Government Area.

In attendance where the Governor, the Deputy Governor, the Speaker of the State Assembly, members of the National Assembly and State Assembly from the state and captains of industry.

According to Hon Ikeuwa Omebe, “the celebration for ages has never failed since it was instituted by Ezekuna, the ancestral father of Ezaa people centuries ago. The 2013 was very significant in the sense that it was happening at a time when Governor Martin Elechi wants to re-enact those cultural practices and virtues that could make Ebonyians greater than they can imagine through his attitudinal change policy which emphasises achieving a purpose in life through good character”.

On the significance of the festival, Omebe noted that no one dares harvest or sell new yams unless the festival takes place or else there will be fatal repercussions.

“If there is no Oke Aku, we can’t sell or eat new yam anywhere in the Ezaa land. If you do, then you are to experience deaths in your family. People will start dying gradually, so many unusual things will start happening in that person’s family”,Ombe said.

Historically, Ezaa have to celebrate it first before any other clan in the old Abakaliki block. This is because Ezekuna, their progenitor is believed to be the eldest of the four sons of Anakewhaliki among the four major clans in the bloc, the other three being Izzi Nodo, Ikwo Noyo and Ezekoma, otherwise known as Agba.

Izzi can be found in Izzi, Ebonyi and Abakaliki local government areas of the state while Ikwo Noyo clan are found in Ikwo local government area. Ezekoma people are otherwise known as Agba and can be found in the present day Ishielu Local government area of the state.

This is what Omebe meant when he said, “Ezzas have to do it first before any other clan in Abakaliki. After Ezza, Ikwo and then Izzi before other clans will then celebrate theirs. Every Ezza man must come over to partake in this Oke Aku festival irrespective of political affiliations or differences”.

“Naturally we used to do it at Orinte. As time went on it was shifted to the stadium, later the governor came and built a cultural centre for the people here in 2009. This place is called Ngamgbo Ezzekuna, it is where Ezekuna, the progenitor of the Ezzas lived, died and was buried. That small hall there is his house”.

At the Ngamgbo Ezekuna, one could see the mud hot where the progenitor of the Ezza nation lived and died. Behind it is the new cultural centre built by Governor Martin Elechi to promote and sustain the culture of the people. The two structures present a vivid juxtaposing picture of the history of the people- the past and the present.

“Oke Aku is a period when we sit together and reflect on the past and make projections for the future advancement and progress of the people. This is a time used to unite us. It gives us the opportunity to iron out differences and make peace with one another”.

Thus, in a goodwill message, Governor Martin Elechi sued for peace in the land arguing that no meaningful development can be achieved in an atmosphere devoid of peace and tranquillity.

Elechi represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Chief Fidelis Mbam thanked the people of the area for their contributions to the development of the state and promised more democracy dividends to the people provided they continued to remain law abiding.

For Chairman of Ezza South Local government, Mr Lazarus Ogbe, who was the motivating force behind the 2013 Oke Agu Festival, the 5 days event was a time of reconciliation that brought peace.

“It reminds the good people of Ezzas that the Oke Aku Festival was the main culture still remaining that draws both the families in Diaspora and those within together for collective progress”, Ogbee said.

The Chairman who was visibly surprised at the Chieftaincy title of Ochi Agha 1 which literarily means the war general conferred on him by all the traditional rulers in the area, said such titles will not only encourage him to do more for the Ezza nation but will also encourage others to contribute their own quota to the overall development of the people, the state and country in general.

It is hoped that the colourful celebration with its message of peace will impact into the people the need for peaceful co-existence with themselves and there neighbours especially during the forthcoming local government area elections. ENDS

  • I want to be a columnist, what does it entail?

Ifeoluwa Adewuyi Tosin: Aunty A2, please ma, I want to be a columnist, what does it entails? I wish to b one.I love writing but I wouldn’t knw if its gud enof.

    Please help me out.

Adeola Agoro: ‘What does it entail?’, you meant to write, I’m sure, not ‘what does it entails?’.

First of all Ifeoluwa, you have to be very proficient in the language you’re using to express yourself. Then you must find an area of interest that will also interest other people.

Are you looking at writing on crimes, society, gossips, religions, health, tourism or what? You must decide which area you are very good at and begin to write. To convince any editor about your ability to write, you would be expected to submit up to 10 articles of the piece you’re going to be writing on.

The next step would be to take your articles to media houses of your choice and talk to editors. If you’re good enough and there is space for you in the paper, you wouldn’t need to worry – you’d be added to their list of columnists faster than you could ever imagine.

In all, I wish you the best.

  • Breast milk and breast feeding

Major types of Human Breast milk

    Colostrum;

This could appear, yellowish and thick. It begins to flow almost immediately after the placenta is expelled. About 60 to 100mls may be produced per day and under normal conditions, flow lasts for a period ranging from 4 to 5 days

The foremilk colostrum is produced by the breast immediately after a mother has her baby. It is rich in minerals and antibodies. The hind milk colostrums is produced at the beginning of breast feeding. It has high fat sugar content, but has a high concentration of sugar. Colostrums is rich in protein

Colostrums is replaced by transitional milk which is light, more plentiful Full milk production is expected to start flowing by day 5 , up till the 8th day but normally by the 2nd week mature breast milk will have begun to come steadily. It is not uncommon for mature breast milk to appear much later. It is usually grayish white or bluish white in colour.

    Components of Human breast milk

    Water—86%, Fat—-3.5% Lactose–7-9% Protein—-0.8—0.9% Ash–0.2%

Others include , growth factors—insulin like growth factors-1, scatter factor etc, breast milk contains bile salt lipase, glycoconjugates, long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, monovalent ions-Na, and k . citrate, phosphates and micelles of casein are also present. These are all necessary for the proper growth and normal development of a child.

The developing brain requires plenty of omega 3 oils to properly build and interconnect the nervous tissue. These are present in amount and conformation specific to humans. With regards to intelligence, ability to read, understand and recall, settle down and solve mathematics, Children growing on breast milk irrespective of age, sex, race and given similar opportunities and background will do better than those fed with artificial, non human milk.

Can a mother produce Acidic breast milk?

PH is a measure of acidity or alkalinity (potential of Hydrogen). It is available on a scale of 14, where 7 is taken as neutral, equivalent to the PH of pure water . Increasing values represent a tendency towards alkalinity as opposed to decreasing values which signify tendency towards acidity. The normal PH of Breast milk falls within the range 7.35 -7.45 and is alkaline. This favours the growth of the lactobacillus bacterium. Excessive intakes of caffeine, not caffeinated beverages have been implicated in breast milk, Ciga and very strong cigarettes can have similar effects. Heavy exercise leave the blood stream with high levels of circulating lactic acid. When this occurs, breast milk which is formed from blood takes it’s share of the acidity. Diets which exclude fruits and vegetables but heavy on meat and fats have also been implicated. In these situations, babies may not accept breast milk with expected or sustained enthusiasm, and are likely to lose weight. The alkaline PH of normal breast milk favors the growth of lactobacillus but kills off pathogenic bacteria

Common Conditions Where Mother Cant Breastfeed Her Baby.

    There are some conditions that may cause a mother to not breastfeed her baby or stop doing so. Only a few are stated here;

Mothers on anticancer agents, Methotrexate, Vinblastine, Alkaloids, etc

Those on Some prescription drugs. Parlodel(bromocriptine), Tetracycline, Flagyl, Aspirin ,etc.

Presence of some conditions such as, open Tuberculosis, neuropsychiatric conditions- puerperal psychosis, drug induced psychosis, herpes

Alcoholics are usually not expected to be successful in providing any reasonable level of care to their children.

Specific Advantages Of Human Breast Milk

Human breast milk contains ingredients required for the proper development of the human brain. Breast milk contains high amounts of arachidonic acid (ARA ) and decosahexaenoic acid (DHA). These have been implicated in the proper development of the brain and the retina of the eyeCognition ( the mental faculty or process of acquiring knowledge by the use of reasoning, intuition, or perception) is comparatively lower in brains developed with milk other than Human breast milkHuman breast milk provides more energy with minimal metabolic waste products just as the growing child requires. • Understanding the family (2)

    Dear Reader,

Last week, I started a teaching on Understanding The Family, and we examined the family unit and marriage relationship. This week, we will be examining, Marriage Versus Family.

    Marriage Versus Family

Fredrick K. C. Price said, “Marriage is a divine ordinance. Without marriage as a divine ordinance, you cannot have a family. You may have a group of people living in the same house, but you cannot have a family. You will have a living arrangement, but not godly relationships.”

In other words, if there is no marriage, there can be no family, because there is a decent order and process to follow in establishing a family. The Bible admonishes us: Let all things be done decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40).

The marriage relationship, though essential to the family unit, differs from family relationship. Let’s see how:

Firstly, marriage is between two parties, man and woman, husband and wife. It is between two people of the opposite sex only. It is important to make this point very clear here, especially in these “modern” days of “same sex marriages”. Even though same sex marriages may be acceptable to the society, it is not acceptable to God. For: … Male and female created he them (Genesis 1:27). Therefore shall a man …cleave unto his wife… (Genesis 2:24).

Notice the words “male”, “female”, “man”, and “wife” in the above scriptures. These all point to two people of the opposite sex, not same sex. God is a God of details. To have God’s kind of marriage, things must be done His own way. Following the crowd and doing what everybody else is doing can never make for success in marriage. Caution! Caution!! Caution!!! God warns in His Word: …Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate (homosexuals), nor abusers of themselves with mankind … shall inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

To go against the Word of God, makes life to be against you! The scriptures cannot be broken. To attempt to break scriptures, is to be broken in life. Those who make light of God’s Word are naturally victims in life.

Secondly, marriage is a covenant, resulting in a fusion, a blending, and a lifelong relationship between one man and one woman. The husband and wife relationship is established by covenant.

Marriage is not just a good idea, it is God’s idea. God instituted it; it is divine. It is not a cultural thing, but a scriptural thing. It is not a product of man’s arrangement, but God’s arrangement.

A family tie, however, is a common ancestral or associational bond resulting in a connecting cord between the individuals within that same family. Its existence is not necessarily by their own volition. That is, you really have no say in deciding which family to belong to. And Judah said unto his brethren … he is our brother and our flesh… (Genesis 37:26-27).

Thirdly, marriage is by choice; each party chooses to become bonded. In a family, however, each member is bonded as a result of their common ancestry, whether or not they choose to. In Genesis 28:2, Isaac told Jacob his son: Arise, go to Padan-aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.

The marriage relationship in which you find yourself, is a product of your choice, and choices are so important. To a great extent, they determine the flavour of our lives.

On the other hand, the family into which you are born, is not a product of your choice. The relationship between children and parents is established by birth. You do not choose who your father or mother would be, before you are born. Or did you? You cannot change your father, neither can you change your mother. Nonetheless, the good news is that God never makes mistakes. Whatever family you are born into is not accidental, God did it on purpose, and it is for your good. Don’t ever wish you were born into another family. The family into which you are born is the best, for you to fulfil your reason for existence. Get excited! You are born in due season.

Don’t ever despise the family into which you were born. No matter the challenges there, God might have sent you there for such a time as this. As you handle those challenges effectively, you will emerge a champion.

Fourthly, marriage is the foundation for the family. A marriage is entered into by choice, and then grows into a family unit. The principles that keep the marriage standing, must flow into the lifestyle of family members. This is because in a marriage, an individual makes a choice for him/herself. But in establishing a family, the individual is bringing loved ones and more individuals together, to partake of the either healthy environment created or painful experiences being endured (Genesis 47:9). Marriage and family are meant to be enjoyed, not endured. God is still in the business of making successful your marriage. He will restore and help you to make things right again, when you accept Him through His Son Jesus Christ and become born again. If you will like to be born again and begin to enjoy God’s help and peace in your home, please say this prayer: “Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. I cannot help myself. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your blood. Deliver me from sin and satan, to serve the living God. I believe You died for me and on the third day, You rose that I might be justified. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into your Kingdom”.

Congratulations, you are now born again! I believe that you will begin to experience the reality of the price that Jesus paid for your sins at Calvary. All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name!
