  • Aina Okoya lies low

    Aina Okoya is one of the well-known daughters of multi-millionaire businessman, Alhaji Rasaq Okoya of the Eleganza fame and his wife, Alhaja Kuburat Okoya. Chubby and cheerful in her mid-30s, she seems to have taken after her siblings, including Biola Okoya, who has suddenly disappeared from the limelight.

    Until recently, Aina was very visible in the social arena. Perceived as one of the most extroverted of the Okoya children, she seems to have found solace in jollification while keeping up the search for Mr. Right after her romance with the son of a now deceased jurist went sour.

  • Bisi Olatilo, Dele Momodu, others celebrate at Niteshift

    Today is a special day for relations, friends, associates of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Micheal Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.     The evening event will feature music, comedy and an interactive session with the 70-year-old monarch. The events will be moderated by the likes of Taiwo Obileye, Bisi Olatilo, Ohi Alegbe, Emeka Ossai, Cynthia Yinkere and Chief Dele Momodu.

    The high profile event is strictly by invitation. It promises to be a grand occasion for the First Class monarch.

  • Etteh prepares for showdown with Adeleke

    Patricia Folake Etteh, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, is allegedly preparing herself for the Senate in 2015. The Ikire, Osun State-born woman is currently pursuing a law programme in the United Kingdom, but that has not precluded her from erecting structures to actualise her dream of remaining politically relevant in the state.

    Some close watchers of political events in the state had thought that the beautician-turned-politician would retire from party politics after the controversial manner she left office as the Speaker of the House of Representatives. But like Oliver Twist, she wants more, and some hangers on in the state are already singing her praises.

    The former Speaker may yield to pressure from her supporters and take a shot at the Osun West Senatorial seat in 2015. But the move is bound to bring her into direct confrontation with Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

    A few days ago, Taiwo Ayoku and his siblings had a commemorative session for their late father, Chief Solomon Ayoku of the Gbengbeleku fame, who died six years ago. The family had a special prayer for the late Lagos socialite.

    Taiwo, one of the heirs of the late Ayoku, is fast emerging out of his late father’s shadow. Not contented with bearing a striking resemblance with his father, he also seems to have imbibed the late businessman’s social demeanour. It is now usual to find the younger Ayoku at elitist shindigs, where he commands the admiration of many, particularly the ladies who want to have a go at his deep pocket.

  • Caroline Olasehinde marks 50 in London

    Caroline Olasehinde, one of the fine flowers of high society and senior manager at Exxon Mobil Oil Company, turned 50 on Tuesday. To celebrate the day, the close friend of many in the social space spared no expense at a soiree in London.

    Society bigwigs, the upwardly mobile, top corporate players, fashion icons and celebrities made the birthday party a point of convergence. It was said that everything that makes a party tick was in effusive supply.

    At the occasion, the elegant woman, who got married to Capt. Rhodes a few years ago, was showered with encomiums for her good deeds. Those who witnessed the event said it was a party that would be talked about for weeks.

    By now, it must have struck star actress, Monalisa Chinda, that the reality of nature surpasses the most ambitious of dreams. All the fantasies of romance she envisioned with the proprietor of the defunct Abuja-based taxi shuttle services firm, Lantana Trasport, Lanre Nzeribe, have evaporated before her very eyes.

    Monalisa had basked complacently in the soothing sunshine of Lanre’s love. So fond of each other were the lovebirds that they were everywhere together. Her close friends say before the reality could dawn on the former Globacom ambassador that Lanre would only be there today and gone tomorrow, she had invested all that she held dare in the relationship.

    Friends of the talented actress, who feel for their own, are still trying to decipher why the relationship that promised so much, had to crash so soon.

    It will be recalled that Monalisa Chinda’s first marriage to Dejo Richards packed up a few years ago.

  • Lolade Bakare bides time

    When Ibrahim Bakare, popular known as Bakky, was murdered by some unknown persons some years ago, many thought his untimely death would leave his wife, Lolade, desolate for a very long time. The assumption was based on the fact that Lolade’s deep affection for her late husband was not hidden. So strong was the bond and affinity shared by the couple that Lolade was inconsolable for months after the sad incident.

    Now, there are insinuations to the effect that Lolade is being tempted to give another shot at marriage. Reports indicate that a lot of well-to-do guys have been looking in her direction but the courteous lady insists that she is not ready for that now. She is said to have told whoever cares to listen that she would rather channel her energy into bringing the best out of her children.

    Some of her late husband’s friends who promised her heaven and earth are nowhere to be found.

    Veteran socialite and one of Nigeria’s most enduring billionaires, Alhaji Rasaq Akanni Okoya, the CEO of Eleganza group of companies, is enjoying a flurry of excitement at the moment. While he has many reasons to be joyful, there is one that stands out. In a couple of weeks from now, his wife, Alhaja Kuburat, will be 70.

    Although it is an age her rather youthful looks would not betray, the truth remains that the doyen of fashion is close to the biblical age of three scores and ten. Preparations for the day in the high society have reached a fever pitch. In the household of the Okoyas in particular, preparations are in full throttle. Family members are ecstatic that the matriach of the family and the most enduring wife of the Aare of Lagos is attaining the milestone age.

    It was gathered that a number of activities have been lined up by family members to give the woman, who has stood solidly by Chief Okoya over the years, a befitting birthday celebration. While the date for the birthday bash is yet to be made public, it promises to be one to be remembered.

    Friends, business associates, family members, socialites, celebrities, statesmen and other well wishers are all gearing up to celebrate the woman of style.

  • Azazi family mourns again

    It is no jubilation time for members of the Azazi family, who are yet to come to terms with the death of the late National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Owoye Azazi. Penultimate week, one of his brothers, Felix Azazi, died from a boat mishap along the waterways of Ekeremor in Bayelsa State.

    The accident occurred on August 10, but his body was recovered three days later, after frantic efforts by local divers and community youths. Celeb Watch gathered that his body was recovered along with that of an unidentified man.

    The deceased, an indigene of Pereforu in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, and others were said to be travelling to Ojobo in Burutu Local Government Area when their boat capsized while trying to overtake another boat.

    Friends, associates and other sympathisers have been thronging his family home to commiserate with them.

  • Nikky Ogbuefi gets serious

    Lagos big girl, Nikky Ogbuefi, is easily one of the most stylish ladies in the Lagos social circle. She is blessed with a lovely figure and captivating looks. While there had been many events that rocked her world, she has remained resolute in her resolve to live life to the fullest. She consistently attends shindigs, smiling and striding happily.

    While she has had her own share of emotional pains, she has survived everything without losing much, and she does not seem to be in a hurry to settle down either.
