Tokunbo Wahab finishes strong for the year

The name Tokunbo Wahab has continued to register in the consciousness of many people in and outside the shores of Nigeria.

Interestingly, it’s in a positive light and for many good reasons since the debonair Wahab, widely referred to as TW, got into the murky waters of politics.

TW is not about just getting anything done, he is mostly focused on getting it done the right way. He has exceeded the expectations of many, confounded his critics, and shown rare traits that distinguish him as a perfect gentleman.

Though TW isn’t one of the politicians that have no history or pedigree, he has continued to wow naysayers with his success and achievements since he was first appointed as a Special Adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Education.

His position as the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources was not only to reward his loyalty but to reward his dedication, commitment, and impressive records as an aide.

For a trained legal expert, who has not only distinguished himself in the practice but made a name and fortune for himself while doing it, it was surprising to many when he accepted the offer to serve in a small capacity and in a not-too-familiar field.

As if the Governor is hell-bent on stretching his abilities and capabilities, he switched TW from the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, and rather than miss the point, he has continued to excel.

2024, in no small measure, saw TW finishing strong among his peers and contemporaries. He has not only spearheaded transformative policies but has actively driven their implementation with visible results. This year, Lagosians witnessed a determined fight against pollution, a bold restructuring of waste management systems, and an unwavering commitment to enforcing environmental laws.

Under Wahab’s stewardship, the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has not only addressed long-standing issues but has also set a foundation for future resilience.
