  • Reps member Iyawe celebrates Dangote refinery on achievement in petrol production

Reps member Iyawe celebrates Dangote refinery on achievement in petrol production

House of Representatives member, Hon. Esosa Iyawe, has hailed Dangote refinery for the start of production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly referred to as petrol.

Dangote refinery started petrol production on September 3, the first time in about three decades that the country will produce fuel from a refinery in its domain.

With a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, Dangote refinery is expected to significantly cater to the needs of the West African market.

Iyawe, an engineer, was among federal lawmakers who kicked against the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Authority (NMDPRA) for allegedly frustrating Dangote refinery in July.

The Oredo representative in the Federal Constituency of Edo State, thumbed up Dangote for the watershed moment. Iyawe highlighted the gigantic impact Dangote refinery would have on the Nigerian economic landscape.

“Congratulations to Aliko Dangote on the monumental achievement in PMS production.

“In a remarkable leap for Nigeria’s industrial sector, Aliko Dangote has his commitment to national development with the successful production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at his functioning refinery. This monumental achievement is a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s economic landscape.

“The Dangote Refinery, now operational, marks a significant milestone in the country’s quest for self-sufficiency in petroleum products. By producing PMS domestically, Dangote has addressed a long-standing challenge faced by Nigeria—a nation historically reliant on imported fuel. This stride not only promises to enhance fuel availability but also aims to stabilize prices and mitigate the economic impacts of fuel importation,”Iyawe stated.

Speaking further, Iyawe said: “This stands out as a beacon of progress in Nigeria’s industrial sector. The refinery’s capacity to produce high-quality PMS is expected to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign imports, thereby conserving foreign exchange reserves and fostering economic stability. This development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s broader goals of economic diversification and industrial growth.

“Beyond the immediate economic benefits, this achievement is likely to generate substantial employment opportunities and stimulate local industries, creating a ripple effect of positive economic impacts. The refinery’s operation will bolster the local economy, support small and medium-sized enterprises, and contribute to the overall development of the nation’s infrastructure”.

He underlined that the milestone is not just for the billionaire and businessman, but the entire nation. The astute lawgiver, who has moved several critical national motions on the floor of the green chamber since he assumed office in 2023, said the achievement by the Dangote refinery reinforces Nigeria’s capability to be a giant in the global economics.

“As we celebrate this significant milestone, i extend my heartfelt congratulations to Aliko Dangote and his team. This achievement is not just a victory for Dangote Industries but a triumph for Nigeria, reinforcing the nation’s potential to achieve greater heights in the global economic arena,” Iyawe stated.

South-south youths appeal for reinstatement of Rivers NSCDC Commandant

The South-South Youths Initiative (SSYI) has called on the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Audi Ahmed, to reinstate Basil Igwebueze, who was recently redeployed from Rivers state.

The group emphasised the importance of Igwebueze’s professional conduct and significant contributions to the state during his tenure.

In a statement, the national president of the youth group, Imeabe Saviour Oscar, expressed concern over Igwebueze’s redeployment, stressing that his leadership had brought stability to Rivers State.

Oscar highlighted that throughout Igwebueze’s service, he had maintained an unblemished record, a key reason why he should be retained in a state as vital as Rivers, given its economic significance to the nation.

Oscar stated: “It should be on record that one of the criteria for appointing heads of security agencies is professionalism. We are very much happy that the current State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Basil Igwebueze, has displayed professionalism and diligence in his duties,”

Oscar further lauded Igwebueze’s efforts in maintaining peace and securing critical government assets in Rivers State. Under his leadership, several illegal bunkering sites were dismantled, significantly boosting revenue for the federal government.

“He has been very instrumental to the peace we enjoy in Rivers State and in securing critical government assets. We are happy to have someone of his calibre leading a security architecture in a state that houses many essential federal assets,” he added.

The youth group expressed disappointment over Igwebueze’s redeployment at a time when the state still requires his services to build on the progress made.

“As we speak, we are not happy that at the time we need him most to consolidate on the good works he has been doing, he is being redeployed,” Oscar said.

He also noted the increasing confidence of Rivers residents in the NSCDC, attributing this to the professionalism demonstrated by the Corps under Igwebueze’s command.

While commending the Commandant General for his reforms within the NSCDC, the youth group appealed for the reinstatement of Igwebueze to continue his excellent service to Rivers State.

“In as much as we commend Dr. Audi Ahmed for his good work in deploying competent officers across various states, we are asking that he should consolidate this effort by reinstating Commandant Basil Igwebueze in Rivers State

“Commandant Basil has done so much, and we haven’t recorded any wrongdoing against him. We are proud of his achievements and are passing a vote of confidence in him,”

Oscar concluded by emphasising that Igwebueze’s dedication should be recognised and encouraged.

He urged the Commandant General to heed their appeal and return Igwebueze to Rivers State.

“This is one man you can call at any time of the night, and he will respond. Such a person should be encouraged to do more for the people of the state and the region. Again, we pass a vote of confidence on him and wish that the CG listens to our appeal and brings him back to Rivers State.”

  • Group lauds Tinubu’s appointment of new DGs for DSS, NIA

Group lauds Tinubu’s appointment of new DGs for DSS, NIA

The Advocates of Justice in Africa (AJA) has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing new Directors-General for the Department of State Services (DSS) and National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

In a statement by Barrister Johnson Ali Usman, the group said Mohammed Mohammed and Adeola Ajayi’s appointments demonstrate the President’s commitment to reforming critical institutions.

According to Ali, Mohammed’s experience and dedication make him an excellent choice while Ajayi’s rise through the ranks and wealth of experience make him an ideal candidate.

“Mohammed, who joined the NIA in 1995, has served in various roles, culminating in his promotion to Director and subsequent appointment as head of the Nigerian mission to Libya,” he said.

“His vast experience and commitment to service make him an excellent choice to lead the NIA. Ajayi rose through the ranks to attain his current post of Assistant Director-General of the Service, serving as State Director in various states. His dedication and leadership qualities make him an ideal candidate to head the DSS.

“We hail President Tinubu for taking the bold decision to revamp the secret police and intelligence agency.

“This move demonstrates his commitment to reforming critical institutions and ensuring they serve the nation’s best interests. His decision sends a strong message that he is willing to make tough choices to address the nation’s security challenges.

“President Tinubu’s decision to appoint new heads for the DSS and NIA is a step in the right direction. It shows that he is committed to addressing the nation’s security challenges and ensuring that critical institutions are led by capable hands.”

However, the AJA urged President Tinubu to extend this sanitisation to the oil and gas sector by replacing the heads of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), and Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

Usman alleged the sector’s inefficiencies, corruption, and mismanagement have led to billions of dollars lost to fraudulent activities.

AJA cited the sector’s failure to effectively manage resources, lack of transparency and accountability, and widespread corruption as reasons for the urgent need for new leadership.

They argued replacing the current heads of NNPC, NUPRC, and NMDPRA was crucial to address the sector’s challenges and prevent further damage to the President’s reputation.

Investigate BBC report on cyber crimes war, group urges FG

A group, South-South Professional & Transparency Initiatives (SSPTI), has called on the Federal Government to investigate the recent report by British Broadcasting Service (BBC) which indicted a non-existing organization for being the most notorious in global cyber crimes, insisting the report was sponsored to dent the nation’s image.

The body, whichreacted to the recent BBC report in a statement to newsmen in Warri yesterday, noted that the report lacked basic ingredients of being accurate, fair and objective in its entirety, as it was calculated, designed and sponsored to malign the good reputation of the nation’s security agencies.

SSPTI statement signed by Dr. Ugochukwu Alozie and Engr. Kayode Ayomide, its Chairman and Secretary respectively, urged the Federal Government to commence process of unraveling the rationale behind such falsehood by BBC to discredit ongoing efforts of Nigerian Police Force in ongoing war against cyber crimes and other social vices in the country.

While describing cyber crimes as a global offense committed by nationals of countries cut across various continents, irrespective of race, color, religion or language, the body decried the situation where such crime would be narrowed down to one particular cult organization, ‘Black Axe Confraternity’, a group that existed only in their imagination.

According to the group: “How can BBC be making such frivolous allegation against members of an organization that does not exist to be behind high profile cyber crime cases globally and yet could not mention names of the group members that were arrested, the nature of crimes committed and where they are currently being detained”.

The group disclosed further that besides the fact that the report was  being sponsored to tarnish the good reputation of the country, the BBC and INTERPOL are using the reports against the nation.

“We have taken out time to carefully monitor the news being disseminated by BBC across the African continent in recent time and we could see the bias negative reports they have continued to spread against some groups and influential personalities, especially those from Nigeria, in order to rubbish the reputation they have built for themselves over the years.

“We have come to the realization that whenever some desperate politicians, political parties or private individuals wants to malign the image of a perceived political opponent or business rivals, they now engage the services of BBC to do the dirty job for them.

“Records have shown that Nigerians are mostly the target of the BBC conspiracy and this can be attested to in the way they have attempted to discredit Pastor T B Joshua of the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) with falsehood and the recent witch-hunting of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of Christ Embassy Church.

“While we want to acknowledge the fact that the Nigeria Police Force can boost of being among the best rated in the world and number one effective law enforcing agent in the continent, we see this ongoing campaigns by INTERPOL and BBC as another method of discrediting the operatives as non-performing in curbing cyber crimes, even when it’s obvious they working within the ambit of law in tackling the menace

“We are therefore using this medium to call on the federal government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to probe this damaging report against Nigeria by BBC, as we are not new to the ways the media outfit had been involved in several campaigns of calumny against the nation in recent times,” the statement concluded.
