The coordinator of Concerned Professionals for Good Governance, Okechukwu Nwafor, has praised Governor Peter Mbah’s decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a bold step that will accelerate Enugu state’s development.

Nwafor commended the governor’s leadership and vision, noting that his defection reflected a commitment to progress and effective governance.

Governor Mbah, who officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, said the move was the outcome of deep reflection and wide consultation with political stakeholders.

“This is no whimsical decision. It’s a collective move by the political family in Enugu State, comprising members of the National Assembly, members of the State House of Assembly, the State Executive Council, all the Local Government Chairmen and Councillors, all political appointees, and over 80% of Party Executives,” Mbah stated.

He explained that the defection was aimed at aligning Enugu State with the APC’s development vision and further advancing the state’s transformation agenda.

The governor highlighted key achievements under his administration, including the completion of smart green schools, primary healthcare centers, and roads, as well as a 600% increase in internally generated revenue.

Mbah assured residents that his switch to the APC would not disrupt ongoing projects but would instead enhance his administration’s capacity to deliver more effectively on its promises.

    ‘Ondo PDP congress reflected unity’

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has dismissed allegations of irregularities in its recently-concluded state congress, describing such claims as false, mischievous and aimed at discrediting a transparent process.

An opposing group within the party, Kick Against Deceit, had alleged that the congress was manipulated to favour certain leaders, branding the entire exercise a “charade.”

The congress, held last month, produced Victor Aisida as the state chairman, succeeding Bakitta Bello, who completed the tenure of the late Fatai Adams.

Other newly-elected executives include Akin Oyewole (deputy chairman), Oluseye Olujimi (secretary), Jolade Aladetan (publicity secretary) and Woke Akindiose (legal adviser).

Although the exercise was largely peaceful, the party’s 2024 governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi, was absent.

In a statement, the party’s Director of Media and Public Communication, Wande Ajayi, said the congress was conducted in compliance with the PDP constitution and guidelines approved by the National Working Committee (NWC), with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) observing the process.

Ajayi noted that some individuals listed as signatories to the critical statement – including Charles Adeduro, Caroline Olupitan, Pat Ojo and Dagbatan Anjorin Peter – had since denied involvement, exposing what he described as the deceitful intent behind the publication.

“Contrary to the falsehoods peddled by the group, the state congress was conducted in full compliance with the constitution of our party and the guidelines approved by the National Working Committee (NWC), as observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Delegates were duly accredited, the process was peaceful and the outcomes reflected the collective will of genuine party stakeholders across local governments and senatorial districts,” he said.

Ajayi added that Ondo PDP, for the first time in years, had demonstrated unity of purpose and readiness to reclaim power through democratic engagement and transparent leadership recruitment.

He described those behind the false claims as individuals opposed to ongoing reforms to reposition the party, saying their frustration stemmed from the end of imposition and manipulation within the party structure.

Reaffirming PDP’s commitment to rebuilding trust and strengthening grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election, Ajayi urged members to disregard “baseless and divisive claims” and remain focused on the renewed vision of the newly-elected state executive committee.

  • FHA boss hails Oyebanji over land

FHA boss hails Oyebanji over land

Federal Housing Authority Chief Executive Officer, Mr Oyetunde Ojo, has hailed Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for attracting development to the state.

Ojo, a former member of House of Representatives, said Oyebanji was trustworthy; hence he was getting positive results.

He said the governor had expanded the membership base of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State by attracting new members.

The FHA chief executive, who spoke in Ado-Ekiti, hailed the governor for releasing 20 hectares in the state capital and the certificate of occupancy free of charge to his agency for the building of 200 housing units to bridge housing gap in the state.

Ojo said: “The governor, in his magnanimous nature, gave us 20 hectares near Ekiti State University (EKSU) Road. The groundbreaking will kick off after the rains. We have perfected papers, thanks to Mr Governor who gave us C of O free of charge.

“The groundbreaking will take place by November/December. We are building 200 units of two-bedroom bungalows there. We will start with 100 units.”

He attributed the numerous federal appointments and opportunities coming to Ekiti to the combined influence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s love for the state and the governor’s efforts.

Ojo said: “No governor has been able to attract many federal appointments and projects to Ekiti State like Governor Oyebanji. It is a reflection of President Tinubu’s affection for our people, the respect the President has for the governor’s leadership and the governor’s strategic efforts.”

He praised federal appointees of Ekiti extraction for their outstanding performance, noting that they had been working to support party members and contributing meaningfully to the development of the state.

Ojo said the difference between Oyebanji and past leaders was his deep understanding of the state’s history and inclusive approach to governance, adding:

“Oyebanji was part of the struggle for the creation of Ekiti State. He understands our challenges. This is why he doesn’t discriminate, he is not the governor of APC alone, but the governor of Ekiti State.

“The governor is being sensitive to the needs of the state and this is the first time we are enjoying such a thing. He is attending to the needs of the state without political colouration. He is spreading out the resources of the state for the welfare and development needs of all parts of the state. This is why people associate with him.

“People have seen that Governor Oyebanji is being responsive. So, nobody will want to be left behind, but to associate with such a person. This is why people are joining the APC or pledging support to his administration and second term bid.

“You can see the likes of Senator Biodun Olujimi defecting from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). If the governor is not trustworthy, or the governor is not taking care of everybody in the state, Ekiti people I know will call his bluff. But it shows the governor is doing the right thing.”

    APC chieftain slams Governor Makinde

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Oyedele Alao, has slammed Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent criticism of Minister of Works David Umahi of ‘dancing around the cost’ on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

He described Makinde’s remarks as hypocrisy, alleging the governor must first account for his inflated road contracts before attacking anyone at the federal level.

A statement by Alao, an engineer, said the costs of roads by Makinde’s administration defied logic, accusing him of turning road construction into a cash-draining adventure that had produced some of the highest cost-per-kilometre projects.

He said: “These are not rumours; these are the governor’s own public figures. No civilised state should pay such outrageous sums without a clear Bill of Quantities or cost justification. Governor Makinde should publish the contracts.

“Oyo people deserve to know where their money is going. Until the governor opens his books, he has no moral ground to lecture the Federal Government on transparency or efficiency.

“As an engineer, I think the governor has an explanation to make on the roads and other infrastructural projects his administration has embarked on since 2019, most especially when the government has claimed it completed 14 road projects, totalling 224.32 kilometres between May 2023 and May 2025.

“Leadership is by example, not about grandstanding or media drama. Makinde should clean up his own administration before pointing accusing fingers at others. The people of Oyo State are watching, and history will not be kind to those who squander public trust.”

  • Security expert defends Tinubu’s presidential pardon, cites national interest, prison overcrowding

Security expert defends Tinubu’s presidential pardon, cites national interest, prison overcrowding

A security expert, Dr Abayomi Mumuni, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision to grant presidential pardons to some convicted Nigerians, a move that has sparked widespread criticism and debate across the country.

The pardons, which have generated public outrage, particularly over the inclusion of individuals convicted of serious crimes such as homicide, have been described by many Nigerians as unjust and demoralizing.

Critics argue that the move undermines the justice system and sends a dangerous message that “anyone can commit a crime and later walk free.”

However, Mumuni, in a statement issued on Tuesday, urged Nigerians to look beyond sentiments and examine the broader context and purpose of presidential pardons.

He emphasised that such decisions are not unique to Nigeria but are part of established democratic practices around the world.

According to the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, a presidential pardon is “a legal forgiveness for an offense” and a constitutional power vested in the president to promote justice, compassion, and rehabilitation, not an act of impunity.

He said, “A presidential pardon removes the penalties associated with an offense. It often recognizes factors such as remorse, rehabilitation, and the potential for reintegration into society. The president’s intention, therefore, is to balance justice with mercy, and not to trivialize crime or victims’ suffering.”

Speaking further, the APC stalwart listed several factors that could have informed President Tinubu’s decision. These include rehabilitation and reintegration of reformed inmates, overcrowding in Nigerian prisons, and the principles of restorative justice that emphasize forgiveness and social healing over perpetual punishment.

“Many inmates have shown significant progress in their rehabilitation efforts. Granting them a second chance through a pardon allows them to return to society as productive citizens. Nigeria’s prisons are overcrowded, and this measure helps relieve pressure on the system while promoting humane correctional practices,” he explained.

The security expert also highlighted the economic and social implications of prolonged imprisonment, especially for non-violent offenders. “Some prisoners’ continued incarceration affects families and communities economically. Pardons can help restore family bonds and reduce the socioeconomic strain on dependents,” he added.

Addressing growing skepticism about the process, Mumuni acknowledged that concerns about transparency, fairness, and public safety are legitimate. He urged the federal government to communicate clearly about the criteria used in selecting beneficiaries and to establish robust reintegration and monitoring mechanisms for those released.

He stated, “The government must ensure that pardons are granted fairly and transparently,” he said. “Public trust will only be strengthened when people see that decisions are based on justice and merit, not political or personal influence.”

While reaffirming his support for the president’s decision, Mumuni cautioned against a selective understanding of justice, drawing attention to similar debates around “repentant terrorists” who have been reintegrated into communities after undergoing deradicalization.

“We cannot celebrate deradicalized terrorists being reabsorbed into society and then reject the idea of pardoning reformed citizens,” he argued. “If we truly believe in rehabilitation and national healing, we must be consistent”, he added.

He concluded by calling for balanced, informed discourse rather than emotional reactions, stressing that the goal of a functioning justice system should include reform, reintegration, and redemption, not just punishment.

“It’s natural for citizens to question these decisions, but we must also strive to understand them. True justice combines accountability with mercy, and that is the spirit behind the President’s action”, he concluded.

NIWA boss visits Akinlalu, commiserates with victims of Amotekun attack in Osun

The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, has paid a condolence visit to the Akinlalu community in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State over the killing and maiming of residents during an invasion by operatives of the Amotekun Corps.

The Nation reports that the Amotekun operatives stormed Akinlalu market square, killing four people and injuring several others, after which they reportedly tagged the victims as bandits.

Oyebamiji, a leading governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) and convener of the “AMBO Movement,” also announced scholarships for the children of those who lost their lives in the attack.

During the visit to the palace of the Alakinlalu of Akinlalu, Oba Oluwabusola Oloyede, Oyebamiji promised the immediate construction of a modern police division in the town to strengthen security and prevent further attacks.

Addressing residents and families of the victims, he assured that the AMBO Movement would continue to support the affected families and work with security agencies to ensure that justice is served.

Oyebamiji expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved families, describing the killings as tragic and unacceptable, and vowed to push for improved community security across Osun State.

According to him, “It is painful that the lives of some of the promising indigenes who are the future of this town were cut short by gruesome killings. But I can assure you that the perpetrators will not go scot-free. They will face the full wrath of the law. We will support you and work to ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.

“Our leader, former Governor of Osun and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has been very supportive and working seriously to ensure that none of the culprits goes unpunished. We will continue to support your town to restore peace. We pray that God will continue to shower His mercy on the parents and families of the victims.

“We want to assure you that all the children of the victims are given scholarships from primary to tertiary institutions by the AMBO Movement. We have set up a committee to ensure this. Any of the children who want to learn any vocation will be equally supported to graduation level and will also be equipped with the necessary facilities and equipment.

“This is not about politics; it is a necessity. With this visit, we will brief the Minister on further assistance. We will also construct an ultramodern police post in the town to strengthen security”, Oyebamiji assured.

In his remarks, Alakinlalu of Akinlalu, Oba Istrael Oyewale Aborisade lauded AMBO Movement for identifying with the community.

The traditional rulers expressed profound gratitude to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, for his swift response and lofty intervention to get the federal government’s attention on the incident.
