NNPC Foundation trains Enugu farmers on modern agricultural techniques

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, the NNPC Foundation, has trained farmers in the Nsukka local government area of Enugu State in modern agricultural techniques and market access strategies.

Speaking in Nsukka during the three-day training for vulnerable farmers, the managing director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, stated that the training was part of the organization’s commitment to food security, economic empowerment, and national development.

She emphasized that the foundation is dedicated to implementing impactful programs that align with national priorities and support the federal government’s agricultural transformation agenda, which aims to ensure food security.

“This training is a testament to our unwavering commitment to food security, economic empowerment, and national development.

“As the corporate social responsibility arm of NNPC Ltd, the NNPC Foundation is dedicated to implementing impactful programs that align with national priorities.

“This initiative is part of our broader efforts to support the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation agenda, which seeks to enhance food security, increase productivity, and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers across Nigeria.

“As we gather here today, we must acknowledge the pressing reality of food insecurity in Nigeria,” she stated.

Arukwe, who was represented by Mrs. Goodnews Willie, Deputy Manager of Education and Healthcare Programs at NNPC Foundation, further mentioned that the organization recognizes the importance of agriculture to the livelihood of the nation.

“At NNPC Ltd, we understand that agriculture remains the primary livelihood for over 70% of Nigeria’s population, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, 2024.

“Yet, many farmers remain trapped in subsistence-level production due to limited access to modern techniques, quality inputs, and competitive markets; hence, this training is designed to change that narrative.

“Through this initiative, we will train 6,000 vulnerable farmers across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria in modern, climate-resilient farming techniques, soil and water management, organic fertilization, and post-harvest loss reduction strategies.

“Our goal is to equip every participant with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to transition from subsistence farming to commercial-scale production,” she noted.

While declaring the training open, the Enugu State Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, Mr. Patrick Ubru, commended NNPC Foundation for training farmers.

Ubru noted that the training presented a critical opportunity for NNPC to equip smallholder farmers with modern agricultural techniques and market access strategies.

He encouraged all participating farmers to engage fully in the program, which represented their opportunity to learn, share, and grow together in modern farming.

“Let us work hand in hand to build a resilient agricultural sector that thrives on innovation and collaboration to help achieve food security in the country.

“With partners in agriculture like NNPC Foundation, we can transform the agricultural landscape of Enugu State and beyond,” he concluded.

The Commissioner disclosed that Dr. Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, would continue to make agriculture a central pillar of his administration to equip farmers and ensure food security in the state.

ERA applauds Tinubu’s NNPC shakeup, demands probe of fake refinery deals

The Energy Reforms Advocates (ERA) has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decision to remove Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

In a statement on Wednesday, Abdulkadri Isah, president of ERA, described the move as a courageous step toward reforming Nigeria’s oil sector and tackling entrenched corruption.

He said Kyari’s removal would allow a full investigation into alleged fraudulent refinery projects under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

“The dismissal of Mele Kyari signals a new dawn in our nation’s commitment to eradicating corruption in the oil and gas sector. We commend President Tinubu for demonstrating the political will to confront these challenges head-on,” Isah said.

He urged the newly appointed leadership of the NNPC to prioritise an audit of past projects and ensure accountability in the sector.

“The probe into fake refinery projects must be swift and thorough. Nigerians deserve to know how billions of dollars were allocated to non-existent or uncompleted projects while the country continued to rely on fuel imports,” he stated.

ERA called on relevant anti-corruption agencies to support the process, warning that failure to expose past mismanagement would hinder any meaningful reform.

“This investigation should not end with a change in leadership. There must be consequences for those who mismanaged funds and deceived Nigerians. The government must set a precedent that corruption will no longer be tolerated,” Isah added.

The group also expressed optimism that under fresh leadership, the NNPC could regain public trust and reposition itself as a driver of economic growth.

“With competent leadership, the NNPC can finally fulfill its mandate. We expect reforms that will boost local refining capacity, attract investment, and ultimately reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products,” the statement read.

Kyari’s removal was part of a broader shake-up of NNPC’s board, with former Shell executive Bashir Bayo Ojulari appointed as the new GCEO and Ahmadu Musa Kida as non-executive chairman.

The restructuring aligns with the government’s vision of revitalising the oil sector and increasing Nigeria’s crude oil production and refining capacity.

Peace ambassador expresses concern over surge in violence in Edo, queries cow menace

Nigerian peace ambassador and rising artist, Sunday Ajakaiye, popularly known as Zunday, has expressed profound concern over the recent surge in violent incidents in Edo State, including the horrific attack on 16 travelers from Northern Nigeria in Uromi and the escalating kidnappings in Igarra.

Zunday, born in the historic Kukuruku Hills of Edo State, lamented the persistent kidnappings in Igarra, allegedly perpetrated by herdsmen who obstruct roads with cattle to execute their nefarious acts.

He emphasised the urgent need for authorities to investigate the ownership and interests behind these cattle and to implement stringent measures for the transportation of livestock to prevent further endangerment of innocent lives.

“We must ask ourselves: Who owns these cows? Whose interests do they serve? It’s imperative that we address these questions to tackle the root causes of these security challenges,” Zunday asserted.

In light of these distressing events, Zunday calls upon Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to prioritize the enhancement of the state’s security architecture.

He urges the governor to **implement comprehensive strategies that will restore public confidence and ensure the safety of all residents and travelers within the state.

“Our people need to believe in the security measures put in place to protect them. I implore Governor Okpebholo to take decisive action that will reassure the populace and deter those who seek to disrupt our peace,” Zunday stated.

While advocating for governmental intervention, Zunday also urged citizens not to resort to vigilante justice, emphasizing that such actions only exacerbate the cycle of violence.

He encouraged the public to channel their grievances through appropriate legal avenues and to demand accountability from those in positions of power.

“Taking the law into our own hands only leads to more chaos. We must trust in our institutions and hold our leaders accountable to ensure justice and security for all,” he added.

As a dedicated advocate for peace and unity, Zunday remains committed to using his platform to foster dialogue, promote understanding, and call for actions that will lead to a safer and more harmonious society.

Group reiterates Tompolo’s, Otuaro’s commitment to N’Delta development

A group, Niger-Delta Renaissance Network, has reiterated the commitment of Government Tompolo, CEO of Tantita Security Company, and Dennis Otuaro, Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, to protecting Nigeria’s oil pipelines and dedication to developing initiatives that enhance the lives of ex-agitators.

The group disassociated Tompolo and Otuaro from the baseless accusations in a viral video, noting that these allegations are not only unfounded but are also a calculated attempt to tarnish their reputations

The spokesman Gabriel Aniete said: “It is evident that the individual behind these accusations is being sponsored by oil bunkers and thieves in the Niger Delta who aim to undermine the integrity of Tompolo, Dennis, and others.

“Since being contracted to provide security services around the nation’s oil pipelines, Tantita Security Company has successfully apprehended countless oil bunkers and crude oil thieves, significantly improving oil production and ensuring that Nigeria meets its OPEC quota.

“Furthermore, under Dennis Otuaro’s leadership of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, the Niger Delta has witnessed a period of relative peace. The programme has played a significant role in training and retraining numerous ex-agitators, transforming them into responsible citizens who actively contribute to national development.

“The recent media attacks and character assassination of Tompolo, Dennis Otuaro, and others come as no surprise. Their effective management of oil pipelines and the Presidential Amnesty Programme has drawn envy from forces who previously benefited from oil bunkering activities and fraudulent schemes within the amnesty programme.

“We call on those sponsoring these character assassinations to desist immediately. It is imperative to reemphasize the commitment of Tompolo and Tantita to protecting Nigeria’s oil pipelines, as well as Dennis Otuaro’s dedication to developing initiatives that enhance the lives of ex-agitators.”

He alleged Alilu has mastered using names of popular preachers to gain social traction.

“Now, this is the era of saying only what you can defend in court, no more careless statements.”

MC Orobo stated it has been revealed that the arrest of Alilu did not come from Komaiya or his team but from a group of concerned Christian youths angered by the unprovoked and unnecessary cyber attacks, bullying and banter directed at popular men of God.

MC Orobo urged news media outlets not to avail themselves to be used to spread fake news and misleading narratives.
