NADDC trains 60 Imo youths on CNG conversion

The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, has emphasised the importance of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in transforming Nigeria’s automotive industry.

Speaking at the CNG Empowerment and Awareness Summit 2025, themed “Building a Youth-Based Nation Through Cleaner Energy,” in Owerri, Imo State, on Wednesday, Osanipin stated that the event aimed to raise awareness about the safety, standards, and regulations surrounding CNG as a sustainable alternative fuel for mobility.

He outlined the Council’s commitment to promoting CNG adoption through policies, skills development, standardization, and monitoring of CNG conversion centers.

He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kojo Motors, and the Imo State Government in advancing the initiative.

“This initiative will not only enhance the skills of youths and technicians but also contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s automotive industry,” Osanipin said.

Highlighting the benefits of CNG, he noted that it offers a cleaner-burning alternative to petrol, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality.

Nigeria’s vast natural gas reserves, he added, make CNG a viable energy option that enhances energy security and reduces reliance on petrol.

Osanipin also pointed out the economic advantages of CNG, stating that it is more affordable than petrol, helping vehicle owners cut costs.

Additionally, the transition to CNG is expected to create job opportunities for technicians and mechanics, fostering national development and sustainable economic growth.

He concluded that CNG-powered vehicles are not only cost-effective but also more fuel-efficient, reducing overall energy consumption and contributing to a cleaner environment.

The Imo state governor, Hope Uzodimma thanked President Tinubu for his commitment to easing the impact of fuel subsidy removal and reducing energy cost.

Uzodimma who was represented at the occasion by the Commissioner for Youth Development and Talent Hunt, Hon. Mandila Okaegbu, said the emergence of CNG as an alternative to petrol and diesel was the direct result of government’s policies to address energy-security and environmental concerns.

He said that the state government was committed to ensure the success of the project as the government has donated land for the CNG conversion workshop to begin.

He stressed the importance of empowerment for unlocking the entrepreneurial potential of Imo’s youths, describing self-empowerment as a vital tool for personal and communal growth.

Uzodimma urged participants to embrace the training opportunity, while aligning the initiative with the state’s broader goals of youth development and innovation.

Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoch who was represented by official in the ministry, Prof Anoka Njan said the objective of the five days trainnig was to equip technicians with the knowledge, skills and competence required to safely and efficiently convert vehicles to run on CNG.

  • Soludo urges increased investment in Anambra, presents scorecard

Soludo urges increased investment in Anambra, presents scorecard

Anambra state governor, Professor Charles Soludo, has called for increased investments from indigenes of the state living in Lagos.

Soludo, who spoke over the weekend while launching the ‘Homeland Consciousness’ initiative, said his government has done so much and is still counting on creating a conducive environment for investments in the state.

The governor, who noted that indigenes of Anambra in Lagos have not done well in comparison with those in other sprawling states, said the time had come for Anambrians in Lagos to come together and join his government to make the state an investment haven for both local and foreign investors.

The event put together by the Anambra Lagos Liaison Office attracted a large turnout of the state’s indigents.

The governor said, “We need to channel our resources and investments back to our homeland to replicate some of our business ideas elsewhere.”

According to him, this will not only give them a sense of pride but also make the state a much sought-after investment destination by non-indigenes and foreigners.

He urged well-meaning indigenes of Anambra in Lagos to come together to shape the future for a greater Anambra state, adding, “We need to build business hubs and create boomtowns in our homeland, and possibly, stimulate the influx of foreign capital.”

The Anambra Homeland Consciousness initiative is designed to strengthen the bond between the indigenes of the state, harness their collective resources, and create pathways for sustainable development in Anambra State.

He allayed fears that the campaign was aimed at attracting people’s investments back to their home state, saying that the Homeland Consciousness initiative “is a message to our people saying whatever you are doing, think home. We are not saying take everything you have in Lagos or elsewhere home. No!”

Reeling out his scorecard for the last three years of his administration, Soludo said his administration has enhanced the state through the delivery of several infrastructure projects.

The project, he said, is the award and flag off of 700 kilometres of roads in 21 local government areas of the state, with 400 kilometres set for commissioning by the third anniversary just as another 400 kilometres of roads have been rehabilitated through the zero pothole initiative.

Also, large-scale erosion control projects are addressing major challenges at critical locations like Ebenator, Nnobi, Ezi-Oko, Awka (behind  Ekwueme Square), Onitsha-Owerri Road in the Oba axis, near Rojenny Hotel, while  Onitsha-Owerri Road (Ozubulu axis ) is currently in progress.

Soludo added that flyover bridge construction at the Ekwuloba inter-section of two Federal Highways is underway, showcasing commitment to improved connectivity, while the dual carriage ways at the Ekwuloba-Agulu-Uga and Agulu-Nnobi-Nnewi are seriously under construction to give fast connectivity to different parts of the state.

Others include the completion of abandoned projects, renovation of existing public buildings, new urban development initiatives, renewable energy solutions, expansion of electricity infrastructure, and water sector transformation.

The governor said there are plans to build an industrial park, a new Onitsha, Silicon Valley, Marriott Hotel, Awka 2.0.

On security, Soludo said his government was on top of the game and has been able to check insecurity throughout the state.

According to him, the efforts of the exploits of Agunechemba have been paying off, and he pledged to do more by deploying technology to rid the state of bad boys, assuring that every other utility to encourage investment in the state is being put in place.

He said the Homeland Security Law 2025, which he signed into law recently, provides a framework for community/citizens’ ownership and participation in sustainable security and social re-engineering.

He added that Operation Udo Ga-Achi is a special intervention force that complements regular policing and is designed to upscale intelligence gathering, reward whistleblowers, enhance rapid response, and urgently root out criminals from every camp in Anambra State.

The governor noted that the security challenges facing the state are complex and hydra-headed, requiring a comprehensive and sustainable response, emphasising that the state government is determined to fight criminality and ensure that Anambra State becomes the safest state in Nigeria.

He said that the homeland security law, which has aided the arrest of native doctors preparing charms for suspected kidnappers, was not targeted at traditional religious practitioners.

According to him, traditional religion is an essential component of Igbo traditional religion and culture.

The new law was designed to combat crime and criminality committed by quacks and evil native doctors, particularly those who pervert and alter the core values of the Igbo society, those who promote and teach the acquisition of wealth without work, and those who deceive the younger generation and unwary members of society.

He condemned native doctors in the state who misled the youth on wealth without work.

He said his government has built four new general hospitals, renovated several others, and employed more medical personnel.

On education, he said the state was leading many states, as his administration had employed more teachers, ending the era of schools without teachers.

  • Open letter to Nigerian billionaires

    Open letter to Nigerian billionaires

    • By Gbenga Omole

    Dear Sirs,

I write to you with deep admiration for your remarkable achievements in business, finance, and industry. You are the titans of our time, individuals who have harnessed opportunity, resilience, and ingenuity to build vast empires. Your wealth is a testament to your hard work, vision, and ability to navigate the complexities of our nation’s economic landscape. However, as history has shown, true greatness is not measured by the size of one’s bank account but by the lasting impact one leaves on society.

Across the world, the most revered names are those who have used their wealth to uplift their communities. In America, people like Rockefeller, JP Morgan, Ford and more remain alive decades after their death because of their contributions to their country. These men contributed to their countries more than politicians. They are the makers of modern America.

We have a few examples in our country. In Nigeria, we remember and celebrate great men like Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, and Adeleke—not merely for their affluence but for the enduring institutions, schools, and infrastructure they have contributed to. Their contributions to education, healthcare, and economic development continue to shape lives long after their passing. But, we need more billionaires to contribute to our country. It is clear that we cannot leave the development of our country to the political class alone. The Adenugas, the Otedolas, the Dangotes and the Rabius must help out.

You need to contribute to more than the presidential library of dictators. Now, more than ever, Nigeria stands at a crossroads. While our nation is brimming with potential, many communities remain underdeveloped, with inadequate educational institutions, poor infrastructure, and limited economic opportunities. The government alone cannot meet these challenges, but you, as private citizens of extraordinary means, have the power to change this narrative.

Our public primary and secondary schools, particularly in underserved communities, require urgent rehabilitation. Classrooms are overcrowded, facilities are dilapidated, and teachers lack the necessary resources to provide quality education. Imagine if every billionaire took it upon themselves to adopt and overhaul schools in their hometowns—Nigeria’s education system would be transformed within a decade.

Certain regions lack access to higher education. Epe, a historically rich and vibrant town, urgently needs a private university to cater to the educational needs of its people and beyond. Similarly, Ilesa, another great town, would benefit immensely from an institution of higher learning that can serve as a beacon of academic excellence. By establishing universities, you would not only educate thousands but also create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in these regions.

Ijebu-Igbo, a land of industrious and enterprising people, yearns for sustainable development. Good roads, modern markets, healthcare centers, and business hubs can transform it into a thriving economic hub.

Across Nigeria, many rural and semi-urban areas lack basic infrastructure, discouraging investment and slowing progress. A well-planned intervention in these areas—whether through road construction, provision of clean water, or electricity projects—would significantly uplift entire communities.

Our hospitals are overcrowded, underfunded, and ill-equipped to meet the healthcare needs of our growing population. Private investment in healthcare facilities—hospitals, diagnostic centers, and maternity clinics—could save countless lives. You have the means to build and equip world-class medical institutions in your communities, ensuring that people do not have to travel long distances to receive quality care.

Nigeria’s youth are innovative, hardworking, and eager to contribute to society, yet unemployment remains a critical challenge. Business incubators, vocational training centers, and interest-free loan schemes can help young entrepreneurs turn their ideas into thriving enterprises. If each billionaire championed entrepreneurship in their hometown by providing mentorship, funding, and skill acquisition programs, we would see a significant decline in unemployment.

The world will remember you not just for what you own, but for what you build. Your legacy should not be confined to financial success; it should be woven into the very fabric of Nigerian society—visible in the schools you establish, the hospitals you construct, and the lives you uplift.

We often celebrate the legacies of global philanthropists like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and Bill Gates, who dedicated vast portions of their wealth to building libraries, universities, and healthcare systems. You have the opportunity to do the same and even more for Nigeria.

This is not a plea for charity but an invitation to shape history. Your wealth gives you the power to be architects of a new Nigeria—one where education is accessible, healthcare is adequate, and opportunities abound. Imagine a Nigeria where every region has world-class schools, functional hospitals, and thriving businesses—all because of the vision and generosity of its most successful sons and daughters.

Your name can be engraved not just in corporate boardrooms but in the hearts of millions whose lives you have touched. Let us look beyond personal luxury and invest in a future that will outlive us all.

May history remember you, not just as billionaires, but as nation-builders.
It is time to act and make our world a better place. You must remember that very soon, all of us will pass on and leave the world for our generations yet unborn.

    With utmost respect and expectation,
Snr Apostle Gbenga Omole, Pawtucket Rhode Island, USA.

    Onoh hails El-Rufai at 65

President Bola Tinubu’s former campaign spokesman in the South East, Dr. Josef Onoh, has described the immediate past Kaduna Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, as a resilient misunderstood statesman who has no political and social boundaries.

Onoh said that the former Governor has shown his ability to make friendship across boards, absorb shocks and quickly overcome political differences.

He congratulated El-Rufai in his attainment of 65 years, noting that longevity is blessing from God which men have no control over the gift.

Onoh urged the former Governor to remain steadfast in his passion for a united country and advancement of the development and well-being of the people of Nigeria.

He stated that El-Rufai as a statesman has by no means pursued the political stabilisation of the country, citing his efforts at the formations of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the All progressives Congress (APC) and dedicated years to public service.

“Something is only truly ‘free’ when its existence and actions are solely determined by its own inherent nature, without any external influence or compulsion hence I wish you a happy birthday from the bottom of my heart in all sincerity, devoid of politics but immense respect you deserve. You remain the great genie in the lamp of our collective success,” Onoh extolled.

Oshiomhole and Onyema will be recognized as Distinguished Guests of Honour, with traditional rulers from Afenmai land presiding as Royal Fathers of the day.

President of Etsako Club 81 Worldwide, Sir Greg Otsu, told journalists in Lagos that the event, scheduled for Sunday, February 16, at the Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, will celebrate outstanding Afenmai sons and daughters as well as friends of the community who have excelled in their respective fields.

Otsu said the theme ‘Reviving Our Afenmai Culture: A Call to Action’ reflects the needs not only for the Etsako people of Nigeria to look inward on how to turn their cultural heritage into money spinning ventures but also a message to other tribes in Nigeria.

He said: “Our cultures are unique to us as different people from various backgrounds and history. We have for long either neglected these cultural values and potentials or allowed others from outside to negatively influence ours. We have seen how people of other tribes are turning their cultural heritage around and attracting tourists from across the globe, the Afenmai people have a lot of those to offer as well hence the need for this renaissance we are embarking upon.”

He urged the people of the senatorial region to inculcate the values and culture of the afenmai land in their children wherever they find themselves around the world.

Otsu called on his kith and kin to rally around Etsako club 81 in its efforts to turn around the economic fortune of their fatherland adding that the prestigious club as over the 40 years of its existence carried our developmental project cutting across education, healthcare, empowerment and ICT in the different local government areas and communities in the region.

“There is no better way to give back to your community and fatherland than to support the various ongoing initiatives and development activities being carried out across the senatorial district by Etsako Club 81.

“Our people deserve our support at this critical time in the history of our country and for us whom God has blessed, we cannot afford to miss this clarion call. I urge my people wherever they are across the world to remember their roots and support its development”, he told journalists.

  • 1,000 PDP groups back Anyanwu as National Secretary

1,000 PDP groups back Anyanwu as National Secretary

Over 1,000 groups within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rallied behind Senator Samuel Anyanwu, reaffirming their support for him as the National Secretary of the party. This move comes amidst the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP.

The PDP Youth Frontiers Network, representing progressive-minded youth groups within the party, made this known at a briefing in Abuja to address the crisis.

They emphasised Anyanwu remains the legitimate National Secretary and any attempt to remove him and replace him with Sunday Udeh-Okoye, Deputy National Secretary, is unacceptable.

In his address, national coordinator Hon. Henry Owolabi said PDP Governors’ Forum and the Board of Trustees (BoT) have overstepped their bounds by advising the National Working Committee (NWC) to swear in Udeh-Okoye as the National Secretary.

This decision, Owolabi argued, is at variance with the party’s constitution and ignores the fact that Senator Anyanwu was elected at a convention.

The group also pointed out that Anyanwu has appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court and the status quo should be maintained pending the determination of the substantive application.

They warned the actions of the Governors’ Forum and the BoT are “illegal, deliberately mischievous and uncomplimentary” to the party.

The group also threatened to mobilise members and supporters to block judicial premises and take civil actions if the warning is ignored.

Owolabi added: “We consider it an imperative and dire need of the hour that, as a party we must begin by building consensus and form once more a united, formidable and strong party, striving to preserve the PDP as a veritable platform for good governance in Nigeria and not continue in the path of self-interest, self-distraught, myopic divisiveness and pristine bickering which has not helped us but has become viable and fertile ground for the opposition to hatch inroads and poach into us destroying our very fabrics.

“We, therefore, join our voices and affirm unequivocal, unflinching and unwavering support and loyalty of our organization and that of all party supporters to the ideals of the party and by extension to the office of the National Secretary.

“That Senator Anyanwu remains the National Secretary and the attempt to remove him and replace him with a judiciary-imposed secretary, without any Congress or legitimate procedural ratification of any organ of the party is hereby totally rejected.

“We warn all detractors and perpetrators and indeed the Judiciary to steer clear of the internal workings of our great party and henceforth refrain from issuing illegal, baseless, porous, judgments that lack legal foundation and are immoral.

“We are poised to mobilise all our members and teeming supporters to block all judicial premises and ensure civil actions that will lead to compliance with this warning if it is flaunted.”

  • Don’t validate manufactured controversy against Udom Emmanuel – Chief Essien advises Enang

Don’t validate manufactured controversy against Udom Emmanuel – Chief Essien advises Enang

A former Minister of Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien, has called on Senator Ita Enang to focus on advocating legislative reforms rather than “lending credibility to what increasingly appears to be a manufactured controversy.”

Chief Essien, the political leader of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, made this statement while hosting a team of journalists at his Ntaisip country home in Eket.

Expressing concern over the ongoing media trial of former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, Essien accused Fejiro Oliver, a Delta State-born self-proclaimed political activist, of orchestrating the campaign without concrete evidence.

He described the situation as a “social media drama,” emphasizing that Oliver had resorted to online trials in the absence of verifiable proof.

“The most striking aspect of this unfolding drama is that when Mr. Oliver first made his allegations; he had no tangible evidence against his supposed target. Yet, he proceeded with the familiar strategy of media trial. On January 8, 2025, he boldly declared that he would submit a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against Deacon Udom Emmanuel by the following Monday. He further alleged that the former governor was in a state of panic and had dispatched an advance team to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to block the petition.”

Chief Essien, a former two term National Assembly member wondered why his name should be dragged into what he had no prior knowledge about.

“Adding intrigue to the saga, he needlessly dragged my name—Hon. Nduese Essien—into the fray, alleging that I was “hired” to appear on Arise News or Channels Television to defend Udom Emmanuel. It was an interesting claim, considering I had no prior knowledge of or involvement in the absurd drama.

“With all the noise surrounding the anticipated petition, one would have expected swift action. Instead, despite the media frenzy, the grand petition did not surface until January 21, 2025—a full two weeks after the much-publicised announcement. What does this reveal? Simple: Mr. Oliver was fishing for evidence. He hoped that certain individuals in Akwa Ibom would supply him with just enough material to write his petition. It appears his gamble paid off, as he eventually cobbled together a petition, and the court of public opinion announced its verdict”, he said.

He further stated that he has been an active critic of government for the general good of the masses, but warned that it must be based on accountability, principles and through proper channels.”

“Let me be clear: I have previously criticised Udom Emmanuel, just as I have done with Obong Victor Attah and Chief Godswill Akpabio. My criticisms were never for financial inducement, personal gain, or public appeasement. Rather, they were based on principle. Accountability is fundamental, but it must be pursued through legitimate channels. Justice is not served by reckless declarations of guilt in the media to advance a particular agenda.”

The former lawmaker condemned the ethnic colouration of the media trial of former Governor Udom Emmanuel, adding that the rule of law transcends ethnic affiliations.

“Additionally, we must reject the ethnic undertones creeping into this issue. Corruption, accountability, and the rule of law transcend ethnic affiliations. Whether one hails from Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Eket, or any other part of the state, the law remains the law. Those purporting to fight corruption must do so with fairness and objectivity, rather than sowing discord along ethnic lines to manipulate public sentiment.”

He urged Akwa Ibom people to ignore opportunistic grandstanding as witnessed by the ongoing media trials initiated by the political activist.

“At some point, we must differentiate genuine demands for accountability from opportunistic grandstanding. Public officials are, by default, subject to scrutiny by the EFCC, ICPC, and other anti-graft agencies. If there are legitimate grounds for prosecution, due process will take its course. Until then, let us refrain from fueling baseless media trials. And, above all, I will not allow my name to be co-opted into this circus for the sake of sensationalism.”

Read Also: First anniversary: Tinubu’s economic policies best for Nigeria, says APC chieftain

He commended what he described as the newfound peace and unity in the state, an act he attributed to Governor Umo Eno, urging for it to be sustained.

“Akwa Ibom has been experiencing another era of peace and inclusive governance since May 2023, thanks to Governor Umo Eno. The days of fierce disagreement and bickering between successive governors and opposition parties are gone. Today, there is a remarkable sense of harmony, which has allowed stakeholders across party lines to work together towards a common goal.

“This newfound unity is a welcome departure from the past, where political differences often hindered the development of the state. The efforts of the current government to foster inclusivity and cooperation have created a conducive environment for growth and development.

“As Akwa Ibom continues on this path, it’s clear that it is poised for a bright and prosperous future, where witch-hunting, tribal sentiments, speculations, and pull-down syndrome have no place.”
