    Lawmaker empowers constituents in Epe

House of Representatives member from Epe Constituency, Tasir Raji, has donated 400 stalls to his constituents in the rebuilt Ayetoro Market, located in the heart of Epe town, free of charge.

The federal lawmaker has received commendation from the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for his effective and impactful representation at the National Assembly.

These form part of the inauguration of the heritage Ayetoro Market, which was rebuilt by the lawmaker, a ceremony that was well attended by the crème of Epe society led by the Oloja of Epe, Oba Kamardeen Animashaun, a member of the Governance Advisory Council and the Apex Leader of APC in Epe Division, Alhaji Sakirudeen Seriki.

Ayetoro Market is a heritage community trading post, which is almost synonymous with the ancient town of Epe. Sensing that the condition of the old structure has become unbefitting of the rapidly modernising community, Raji decided to rebuild it as part of his constituency projects initiative.

The inauguration took place on Tuesday with the Chairman of the APC in the state, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, presiding over the activities, while Oba Animashaun was the father of the day.

Addressing those present at the event, the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Animashaun, hailed the lawmaker for his life enhancing projects in the community, with a call on beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity availed them by ensuring cleanliness of the new edifice and proper maintenance.

Raji, who described the day as a day of joy to him, traced the journey that culminated in the eventual launch of the edifice, saying he was donating the new edifice to those allotted free of charge as part of his efforts of eradicating poverty in the constituency.

He said all former traders in the old market totalling 200 had been allotted stalls in the new market, while additional 200 new traders had been taken care of.

Pastor Ojelabi, who hailed the lawmaker for the numerous developmental strides he had continued to attract to the constituency, said: “You have done wonderfully well and I want to say on behalf of the party that we are proud of you. I mean the sort of infrastructure development we continue to see. Your unrelenting strides to empower your people in the education sector, health sector, in food production and so on and so forth.

‘’We appreciate you. The people have come here to appreciate what you have done for the development of the people and the constituency.”

  • Lagos advances economic planning transition at 2025 Roundtable

Lagos advances economic planning transition at 2025 Roundtable

The Lagos state government has further strengthened its long-term economic strategy with the hosting of the 3rd economic roundtable, convened to refine policy direction, accelerate sectoral growth, and support a more inclusive and sustainable Lagos economy.

Held in Lagos, the forum with the theme: “Building Forward: Unlocking Emerging Sectors for an Inclusive, Resilient, and Prosperous Lagos Economy,” brought together government officials, private sector leaders, academics, and development stakeholders to examine Lagos’ economic priorities for 2026 and beyond.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Planning & Budget, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, said the initiative reflects the State’s commitment to evidence-based planning, responsible governance, and shared prosperity.

She noted that Lagos’ resilience as Nigeria’s commercial backbone is the result of planning and structured partnerships, not coincidence.

According to her, insights generated from the forum will directly influence the State’s Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), shape the 2026 appropriation, and support key reforms under the THEMES+ development agenda.

Ojo emphasised that economic transformation cannot be state-driven alone, calling for expanded collaboration with private investors, researchers, civil society institutions, and global partners.

Delivering the keynote address, the Commissioner for Economic Planning & Budget, Mr. Ope George, described Lagos as being at a crucial stage in its economic evolution.

He stressed the need for smarter, innovative, and adaptive planning models to navigate demographic growth, climate-related pressures, and global market shifts.

He outlined key focus areas of the State’s growth plan—urban regeneration, creative industry expansion, water-based transportation, and institutional reforms to consolidate Lagos’ standing as Africa’s most economically advanced sub-national entity.

George reaffirmed the government’s pledge to data-driven planning and equitable economic development, ensuring that “the dividends of progress are enjoyed by every Lagosian.”

Speaking on Lagos’ maritime economic agenda, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Blue Economy, Mr. Emmanuel Damilola, highlighted the major strides being made through the Omi-Eko water transport modernization programme.

He explained that the goal is not necessarily to abolish road congestion, but to significantly ease it by offering reliable alternatives via waterways and rail systems.

According to him, the Omi-Eko initiative is anchored on clean mobility, climate resilience, and economic connectivity, with plans for more than 75 hybrid or electric ferries, 15 operational routes, and 25 upgraded terminals.

The project, he added, benefits from a €110 million EU-funded grant, the largest of its kind in the world, supported by state investment and private sector participation through the Intelligent Ticketing System.

He projected that the initiative will transport 20–30 million passengers annually, cut carbon emissions by over 41,000 tonnes, create thousands of jobs, boost coastal commerce, and open access for riverine populations.

He further assured that informal operators who currently account for around 90% of the sector will not be displaced but integrated through support programmes and community-driven engagement.

A panel discussion featuring the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr. Oluyinka Olumide; Prof. Olufemi Shuaib of UNILAG; the CEO of Chocolate City, Mr. Abuchi Peter Ugwu; UNILAG transportation and spatial planning specialist, Prof. Samuel Oni; and Dr. Amina Olohunlana of UNILAG, reiterated commitments from stakeholders to accelerate Lagos’ economic renewal through innovation, infrastructure scaling, sustainability, and social inclusivity.

Conclusions drawn at the Roundtable are expected to shape policy outcomes that will strengthen economic resilience and equity, guiding Lagos toward a more competitive and prosperous future in the coming decade.

According to him, “beyond figures, the heart of the budget lies in its commitment to improving lives and safeguarding the future of residents”.

He urged all commissioners and accounting officers to defend their budget proposals transparently and ensure effective implementation for the benefit of the people.

“Mr. Speaker and the Honourable members, as we look to the year 2026, I am confident that, with divine guidance and our collective  resolve, Ogun State will continue to chart a path of sustainable growth and shared prosperity,” the governor said.

  • ‘Tinubu’s reforms okay’

    ‘Tinubu’s reforms okay’

A political support group, Sunshine Grassroots Network (SGN) in Ondo State, has said the far-reaching economic reforms and stabilisation efforts being undertaken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure him a second term.

The group, representing members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Labour Party (LP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), who recently integrated into the All Progressives Congress (APC), said it was committed to mobilising support for President Tinubu ahead of 2027 general election.

Speaking yesterday at its group’s secretariat in Akure, the Director-General of SGN, Dayo Awude, said President Tinubu’s “tough but necessary” economic decisions had begun to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth despite the current hardships faced by citizens.

Awude listed key reforms -including fuel subsidy removal, elimination of policy inconsistencies and stabilisation of the external reserves – as steps that were correcting long-standing structural defects and restoring economic discipline.

READ ALSO: Why I apologised to Afeez Owo – Wumi Toriola

Describing the previous fuel subsidy regime as a “cesspool of corruption,” Awude said it had drained national resources and enabled a few privileged individuals to siphon the country’s wealth.

“Despite the hydra-headed challenges confronting our country, we believe it is essential to keep our people informed of the successes we have achieved and the strides we are making as people and as a country.

“To leap into a steady future, we need to know where we were coming from. Prior to the Tinubu administration, we were faced with the cesspool of corruption called petroleum subsidy, a platform through which our patrimony was siphoned by the privileged few; persistent economic instability; inflation due to inconsistent monetary policies; decay of critical infrastructure, among others,” he said.

Awude, however, added that the reforms had begun yielding results, noting that Nigeria’s external reserves rose to $43.197 billion as of October 31, 2025.

The SGN DG cited recent assessments by World Trade Organisation (WTO) Director-General, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Lamido Sanusi, both of whom said the Nigerian economy was stabilising and on a path to recovery.

He said the duo’s endorsement reflected growing confidence in the Tinubu administration’s fiscal direction.

Awude also highlighted President Tinubu’s “unprecedented attention” to Ondo State, referencing the appointment of two ministers from the state.

He lauded the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for ongoing reforms in passport issuance, border security and airport modernisation, including the new e-gate installations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport.

The group also commended President Tinubu for the ongoing federal road projects in the state, including: Akure–Ondo–Ore dualisation, Akure–Ado-Ekiti dual carriageway, Ilesa–Akure–Benin road and Lagos–Calabar coastal highway (expected to pass through Ondo), saying the projects reflected the state’s growing strategic importance under the current administration.

Acknowledging the recent spike in insecurity, Awude expressed optimism about Tinubu’s measures, including the declaration of a state of emergency on terrorism and moves to amend laws to enable state policing.

He called for expedited recruitment into the Army and Police to bolster national security.

Awude reiterated that the SGN’s mandate was to enlighten Nigerians on the gains of the Renewed Hope agenda and mobilise grassroots support for the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.

“Together, we will work towards a brighter future for our country and all our citizens,” he said.

  • ‘Draw strength to carry on’ – Ibori tells Segun Awolowo’s widow

‘Draw strength to carry on’ – Ibori tells Segun Awolowo’s widow

Former Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori, has urged Bola, the widow of the late Segun Awolowo jnr, to find strength in the glowing tributes poured on her husband following his passing.

The late Segun, grandson of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the age of 62.

Speaking on Tuesday night at the Night of Tributes held in honour of the late lawyer and former Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos, Ibori described Awolowo as a humble, dignified, and impactful public servant whose legacy will endure.

Addressing the widow directly, Ibori said, “All we will say here and all you have heard is for you to draw strength to carry on. Our guy was great.”

The former governor recalled that he was attending a similar tribute event for the late Oskar Ibru when news of Awolowo’s death reached him, describing the moment as a painful irony.

“My first thought was, ‘What a season!’ It was a life fully lived in all its chapters. To be honest, I never imagined it would come so soon. We all knew he was struggling, but that did nothing to soften the blow. The reality came with such weight, bringing profound shock and sadness,” he said.

Ibori praised Awolowo’s calm disposition, integrity, and devotion to service, noting that despite his lineage, he carried the Awolowo name “not as a crown but as a responsibility.”

According to him, the late Awolowo distinguished himself in public service, especially during his tenure as NEPC chief, where he championed Nigeria’s non-oil export drive with vision and diligence.

“He performed exceptionally well. He was not there for the title but for tangible results. He was a true servant of the nation,” Ibori stated.

He added that Awolowo’s life reflected humility, discipline, and purposeful leadership, describing him as “a bridge between a storied past and a hopeful future.”

The former governor extended condolences to the Awolowo family and all who knew him, praying for comfort and strength in their time of grief.

“Segun Awolowo jnr’s life reminds us that true impact is often made, not with fanfare but with consistent principled action. He was a bridge between a storied past and a hopeful future, demonstrating how to honour one’s heritage while carving out a distinct and impactful path.

As we mourn his passing, we extend our deepest condolences to the entire family, led by his wife Bola and all who knew and loved him. May they find comfort in the respect and affection that his life has inspired. His was a life well lived, though it ended too soon. He embodied grace under pressure, service over self, and the enduring power of a good name. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace. Rest in peace, Shegee. Good night,” Ibori concluded.

  • How Ahmadu became Rotary district 912 (Ibadan) general secretary at 30, by Atmos CEO

How Ahmadu became Rotary district 912 (Ibadan) general secretary at 30, by Atmos CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of Atmos Integrated Services Limited, Dr. Ajibola Ahmadu, has highlighted the long-standing leadership record of the President of the Yoruba Leadership and Peace Initiative (TYLPI), Dr. Olusegun Ahmadu, noting that he served as General Secretary of the Rotary Club, District 912 (Ibadan), when he was 30 years old.

Ajibola, who spoke on the importance of recognising individuals who have made significant contributions during their lifetime, described Ahmadu as a figure whose impact has been felt across social, cultural, and developmental spheres.

He said Ahmadu’s passion for the social and cultural advancement of Yorubaland remains evident through the creation of several impactful groups, including the ‘Agbajo Owo Collective’, and his leadership of platforms that publish research and public-interest papers.

Ajibola also described him as a devoted Muslim and a philanthropist whose influence cuts across various sectors.

He cited Ahmadu’s role as Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee that supervised the construction and development of the Murtala Mohammed Airport Domestic Terminal (MMA2), describing it as one of his notable contributions.

Reflecting on his early leadership journey, Ajibola said Ahmadu’s involvement with Rotary in the early 1980s helped nurture values that later shaped his contributions to Yoruba socio-cultural development.

“It is very important we give flowers to those who deserve them while they are alive. Dr. Olusegun’s leadership journey began long ago. Serving as General Secretary of Rotary Club District 912 (Ibadan) before the age of 30 planted in him the ideals that later blossomed into leading a pan-Yoruba organisation,” he said.

Ajibola added that Ahmadu’s commitment to humanity, cultural progress, and community upliftment continues to distinguish him as a leader whose contributions should be acknowledged.
