Olympia: Alpha and Jam Africa makes claim for world’s biggest mixed-format billboard

Alpha and Jam Africa has unveiled Olympia, described as the largest mixed-format advertising board in the world, located beside the National Theatre and the Wole Soyinka Centre for Art and Culture in Lagos, Nigeria.

The media group said the project marks the first phase of its three-year programme to develop ultra-large billboard infrastructure across 10 cities globally.

Speaking on the significance of the installation, the firm said Olympia was conceived not merely as an advertising structure but as a landmark development within Nigeria’s evolving outdoor advertising space.

Strategically positioned along the Eko Bridge corridor, the site sits on one of Lagos’ busiest transport routes.

Alpha and Jam Africa estimates that over 11,000 vehicles pass through the axis hourly, while the Lagos Blue Line rail system conveys more than 250,000 passengers daily between Marina and Mile 2.

The structure is also visible from the Alaka Interchange and Third Mainland Bridge.

Olympia features a hybrid design combining large-format static and digital advertising. It consists of two landscape static panels measuring 100 by 30 metres each, alongside a 30 by 4-metre portrait LED digital screen.

According to the company, the configuration allows brands to deploy both long-term static messaging and dynamic digital content simultaneously.

Beyond media display, the structure was designed to support experiential marketing. Built with container architecture, it includes ground and first-floor spaces intended for brand activations, events, and audience engagement.

Mr Ajiboye, Global Growth Director for A&J Africa and Europe, described the project as symbolic in both scale and placement.

“Olympia is more than an advertising board; it is a landmark. By placing it beside the National Theatre, we anchored it to a symbol of national aspiration and gathering. It sits at the crossroads of daily commute and monumental events, capturing the relentless energy of Lagos,” he said.

The company said the development reflects its belief that Nigeria’s advertising infrastructure must evolve in line with the sophistication of its audiences and markets, adding that more iconic installations are planned within and outside the country.

EPL: Liverpool thrash Newcastle 4-1 as Ekitike scores twice to end winless run

Hugo Ekitike turned the game on its head to stun former suitors Newcastle United as champions Liverpool recorded their first Premier League win of 2026.

Newcastle attempted to sign Ekitike in three transfer windows over the course of three and a half years, and how the visitors rued losing out to Liverpool in the race to recruit the lethal striker from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.

After scoring in the reverse fixture in August, the Frenchman came back to haunt Eddie Howe’s side once again at a buoyant Anfield with two goals in two minutes before half-time.

Anthony Gordon had initially opened the scoring for Newcastle with a fine finish, but Liverpool quickly showed their powers of recovery to go on and win the game comfortably thanks to a devastating double from Ekitike, a well-taken goal from Florian Wirtz and a close-range finish from an emotional Ibrahima Konate.

It was Wirtz who was the architect behind the first as he danced through a crowd of black and white shirts before cutting the ball across to Ekitike to finish clinically first time at the near post.

Ekitike was not finished yet and he latched on to Milos Kerkez’s pass down the left channel a couple of minutes later before driving into the box and firing past Nick Pope into the bottom corner to put his side in front.

Newcastle, who have not won a league game at Anfield since 1994, understandably looked a little shell-shocked as the players trudged off at half-time – but it soon got worse for the visitors after the break.

Although Alisson had to be alert to parry a powerful effort from Harvey Barnes, who had struck a post when the score was goalless in the first half, it was Liverpool who went on to land the final blows.

Mohamed Salah knocked the ball into Wirtz’s path with a deft lay-off and the German forward swept the ball into the net from inside the box.

A tearful Konate, in his first game since returning from compassionate leave following the death of his father, added a fourth following an error from Pope.

Liverpool ended a five-game winless run in the league as Newcastle slipped to 10th in the table.

EPL: Chelsea fight back from two goals down to beat West Ham 3-2

Champions League‑chasing Chelsea fought back from two goals down to win in stoppage time against West Ham in a dramatic London derby at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Fernandez’s 92nd-minute winner sparked wild scenes at Stamford Bridge to snatch victory having been 2-0 down through goals from Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville.

New manager Liam Rosenior’s substitutes had hauled Chelsea back into the game as half-time introductions Joao Pedro and Marc Cucurella both scored to level the match.

It was a blow for West Ham who dominated the first half. Bowen’s in‑swinging cross beat Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who was unable to claim the ball as Pablo threatened to get a touch on its way through to open the scoring.

That seventh‑minute strike came either side of two shots on target from new striker Taty Castellanos, while Summerville curled home a second goal from inside the box after a move down the right involving Bowen and Aaron Wan‑Bissaka.

Cole Palmer’s 30-yard free-kick was Chelsea’s only shot on target in a dismal first half.

The hosts were booed off at half-time and Rosenior made three changes. He removed the struggling left‑side trio of Jorrel Hato, Benoit Badiashile and Alejandro Garnacho – at fault for both first-half goals – bringing on Joao Pedro, Cucurella and Wesley Fofana.

After West Ham efforts from Matheus Fernandes and Bowen were saved early in the second half, Chelsea began to dominate.

Pressure built as Liam Delap went close and a long‑range Moises Caicedo long-range strike was pushed away, before Fofana’s deep cross was headed in by Joao Pedro to pull a goal back in the 57th minute.

Thirteen minutes later, Cucurella – one of Rosenior’s changes – produced a diving header to equalise after Malo Gusto’s header across goal caused a goalmouth scramble.

With the crowd now behind them Chelsea pushed for a third, and while West Ham’s Jean-Clair Todibo hit the post in the 86th minute, Fernandez pounced to finish Joao Pedro’s cross from close range for the winner.

Konstantinos Mavropanos was sent off for his part in a melee at the end of the match after a lengthy video assistant referee (VAR) check, as emotional scenes boiled over.

The result lifts Chelsea above Manchester United into fourth place in the Premier League, while West Ham remain five points below Nottingham Forest. United and Forest play tomorrow and both have a game in hand.

EPL: Madueke shines as Arsenal go seven points clear

Noni Madueke starred as Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points as they beat Leeds United to record their first league win in four Premier League matches.

Madueke was not meant to start the game and was a late replacement for winger Bukayo Saka, who limped out of the warm-up with a hip problem.

And Madueke, who has had to play the role of back-up for most of this season, took his chance to impress as he curled in an excellent cross for Martin Zubimendi to nod Arsenal in front.

The home side had started the game well but Arsenal pinned Leeds back for large parts of the first half, winning a number of corners and throw-ins to increase pressure on the Leeds defence.

It was from one of these corners that Arsenal doubled the lead when Madueke’s curling delivery caught out goalkeeper Karl Darlow and he could only punch the ball into his own net.

Viktor Gyokeres then made sure it was a comfortable end to the game when he fought to get on the end of Gabriel Martinelli’s inviting cross to make it 3-0 before substitute Gabriel Jesus added a fourth late on.

The expectation was on Arsenal to deliver a result coming into this game after their recent form, but they recorded an important victory to put pressure on their title rivals, Manchester City and Aston Villa, who are not in action until Sunday.

Guru Maharaj ji canvasses appointment of Nigerian as Eagles coach

Founder of One Love Family, SatGuru Maharaj ji has called for the appointment of a Nigerian as Head Coach for the Super Eagles.

He said his persistent call on Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to employ a Nigerian as Super Eagles Head Coach is beyond emotions and sentiments.

A statement by Maharaj ji stated that his call is deeply rooted in the ongoing and unstoppable reset of Africa continent following expiration of global European dominance.

According to him, the step became necessary if truly Nigeria desires to have Super Eagles excel at the highest level of soccer competition.

He maintained that NFF should desist from falling from their games by appointing a Nigerian as Head Coach of the Super Eagles.

He said the appointment must avail the Nigerian the same payment and privileges that Europeans get when hired by NFF.

“Irrespective of the challenges that the Nigerian Coach may be experiencing in the job, he must not be sacked. Every new era, every fresh order, has its natural teething-stage.

“NFF (and Nigerians as a whole) should stop patronising the manipulative intelligence of Europeans, through the wrongful amalgamation that we are trying to put right to ensure that human rights, freedom and liberty for all, is no longer abused.

“Appoint a competent Nigeria (preferably from one of our ex-Super Eagles players such as Austin Jay-Jay Okocha; Daniel Amokachi; Emmanuel Amunike; Fani Amun; among others.

“I look forward to having NFF heed this Divine advice this time around, if they do not want to be dissolved or fired for mismanagement and high-handed disrespect to human life.”

  • Luis Enrique nearing new contract with PSG

Luis Enrique nearing new contract with PSG

Luis Enrique has been a revelation at Paris Saint-Germain, and the former Barcelona manager is now poised to extend his stay at the reigning European champions.

The 55-year-old was appointed as PSG manager in the summer of 2023, and less than two years later, he won the French club their first-ever Champions League title. They have not been as dominant this season, but he still has lots of credit in the bank, and that will soon earn him a new contract.

Luis Enrique, who was behind PSG’s efforts to sign Dro Fernandez from Barcelona, is in the final stages of agreement a three-year contract extension, as per Sport. His current deal runs until 2027, whereas the new one will keep him at the Parc des Princes until the end of the 2029-30 campaign.

Luis Enrique’s contract length will be lined up with that of sporting director Luis Campos, who is also tied down until 2030. The pair have worked well together during their 2.5 years in Paris, and the plan is to remain in partnership for as long as is required.

As part of his new contract, Luis Enrique will have a release clause. This will allow him to end his time at PSG when he deems necessary, whether that be in 2030 or before. Given what he has done at the club since his arrival, any choice on his future will be entirely left in his hands.

  • Barcelona to keep Fermin Lopez until 2031

Barcelona to keep Fermin Lopez until 2031

Barcelona have confirmed a new deal for midfielder Fermin Lopez, tying him to the club until 2031. Lopez was under contract until 2029 as it was, but has been rewarded for his impressive 2025, as he challenges Dani Olmo for a starting spot.

The 22-year-old broke into the senior side under Xavi Hernandez, but has gone from strength to strength under Hansi Flick. In the second half of last season, he transformed into one of Barcelona’s main goal threats, scoring 10 goals and giving eight assists. This season already, Lopez has 10 goals and 10 assists to his name.

In the summer there was some suggestion that Barcelona would be open to selling Lopez to ease their salary limit issues, and towards the end of the transfer window, Chelsea came in with an offer. Fermin turned it down at the time, but there was talk that Chelsea were still interested in him.

Barcelona’s new deal for Lopez will reportedly grant him a considerable wage rise, and extend his deal by a further two years, having signed his last deal less than two years ago. It would seem to end Chelsea’s interest in him.
