GOFAMINT General Overseer advises Tinubu on governance

The General Overseer of the Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT), Pastor Elijah Abina, has called on President Bola Tinubu to tackle governmental and constitutional issues with vision and with the fear of God, stressing that they will one day give account to God.

Abina, who made this call during his closing remarks at the 15th edition of the Bi-annual National Conference of GOFAMINT Men Fellowship (MEFEL), tagged ‘Men of Issachar,’ urged President Tinubu-led administration to govern the masses with good example, as they will give account of their stewardship after their days in office.

“I urge you all to go and be the visionary man God wants you to be.

He said “Our leaders in the government must act like the Biblical Apostles. We need men who are principled and forward-thinking leadership who prioritize the welfare of the nation and operate within a framework of moral responsibility and accountability to God and the people.

Abina, who recently marked his 89th birthday, frowned at the ugly situation of things in the country and called on leaders in the government to replicate the theme of the conference, adding that “the men of the tribe of Issachar had a deep understanding of their times.

He said, “According to 1 Chronicles 12:32, understanding their times meant they knew precisely what Israel ought to do. They were divinely endowed with the wisdom to comprehend what God was doing and what they needed to do to align themselves with Him, and they did what they needed to do with vision and with the fear of God.

“I pray for you and urge you to lead with vision and with the fear of God, because where there is no vision, the people perish, and the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Through wisdom, your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer,” Abina said.

The General Secretary of GOTAMINT, Femi Omowunmi charged members to do the right thing as Christians. “The Bible says we are the light and the salt of the world. So, we should be able to know that at a time like this, in our country, we have a role to play. • Umunna: My encounter with assassins

    Umunna: My encounter with assassins

As the President of Bible Life Bible Church, Bishop (Prof.) Leonard Umunna celebrates a festival of Platinum Jubilee Praise marking his 70th birthday today with a book launch entitled: ‘Divine Wealth And Success: Unlocking the Abundance Within,’ ADEOLA OGUNLADE burrows through its rich archives to recap parts of the journey of the mercurial, entrepreneurial and the philanthropic proprietor of both Leonard Umunna College and Leonard Umunna Medical Centre, Olodi Apapa, Ajegunle, Lagos, on his eventful sojourn on earth at 70. Excerpts

Experiences in over 45 years in ministry

There are too many. For instance, I have faced death over 50 times, so, to ask me about the terrible experiences I have had in the ministry over the years will be too much for your magazine to publish in 10 volumes. But let me single out a few of them. Let me narrate the one that happened on September 21, 1997, when some hired assassins came here (his church) as a result of a message I preached on the radio during the regime of a former military ruler, the late now General Sani Abacha, which I titled: ‘A Message to the Nation.’ In that message, I made a reference to the appointment of Gen. Musa Bamayi (rtd) by his regime as boss of the Nigerian Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Based on the good performance of Bamayi in office as the NDLEA boss, which many Nigerians were commending, I advised the then Head of State General Sanni Abacha now late to appoint other people of Bamayi’s stuff over some other national bodies and agencies like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) etc to complement what Bamayi was doing. Eh! Gen. Abacha said that was a political message and ordered that my messages should not be aired again.

Well, I pressed one particular message to be aired that Esther was told by Mordecai that if she didn’t stand up at such a time as this to save her people, the people’s salvation might eventually come through another person, and she and her family would pay dearly for her refusal to ensure her people’s salvation when she had the opportunity to do so. After this message was aired the next was that one night around 11 pm some military men came with a Land Rover; they called me out and asked me some questions such as which association I belonged to. Which political party did I belong to; and all others?

I answered them appropriately that apart from the Christian bodies, I don’t belong to any other association or any political party, stressing that I couldn’t have belonged to any political party because I believe as a pastor, I’m greater than any nation’s president because presidents make inquiries from prophets of God. While presidents rule in the secular, we, pastors rule in the spiritual. That they are kings, and we are greater than kings because what is the need for a political office that is temporal when you lead a church that is permanent?

In addition, I told them that I’m a multi-talented person: I write, I preach, I sing, and I have many businesses to manage my family and a church with many branches etc. So, I don’t have time for any political interest. After they finished interviewing me, the people left me alone saying this man is not a politician but a preacher.

On a later date, they returned for me. This time they dressed like sports people and asked me to come out. Immediately, the voice of God told me that they were hired assassins that I should tell them that I would soon be with them. I told God that I vowed that I would not tell lies but He said it was not a lie, that I should go to the altar to meet them. Already, they had gathered the people that came for nigh prayers and packed them like sardines. Soon, they broke down all the doors leading to my bedroom. They pulled down all the burglary proofs while I was already at the altar but they couldn’t see me. They were asking the people they met about my whereabouts. They searched everywhere for me with their torch lights not knowing that I was standing with them right on the altar. After about four hours of endless search for me, I told God to put off the light. When this was done they left. They were over 50 people in number. I don’t want to share all of that terrible experience because they could evoke emotions.

Motivation to continue in ministry in the face of terrible experiences

Oh! The joy of seeing souls coming into the vineyard of the Lord! You see, God is rewarding me. For instance, I have won more souls for the Lord than ever. When I see souls coming in through God’s confirmation of His Word in our various programmes and seeing people’s lives being changed or transformed in our programmes gladdens me.

Pastoring a church in a slum and jungle like Ajegunle

Ajegunle was a no-go area when I came over here. Ajegunle was truly a jungle city when we came here, a den of armed robbers and herbalists. But today God has really helped us to impact upon the area and its people positively. God actually directed us to this place.

There were several physical attacks on me and some of our church members from some of the residents. At a point in time, we got one of them arrested and he confessed that some people sent him to attack me to see if that could close down or relocate our church from Ajegunle to somewhere else.

Ajegunle used to be a dumpsite with the notorious Achakpo refuse mountain. We prayed and fasted in the church to God concerning the environment. Shortly after that Abacha invited Brig. Gen Buba Marwa from America to replace Colonel Olagunsoye Oyinlola as Lagos State governor. Marwa came and sent caterpillars to bulldoze the Achakpo refuse mountain.

From there we embarked upon prayers to God that Ajegunle must cease to be a haven of prostitution, a hideout of criminals and God has started doing just that. Today, with police or no police we can close our eyes firmly and sleep in Ajegunle without any fear of molestation or threats to lives as it were in the past. Many of the hotels in Ajegunle have been taken over to build schools, hospitals and churches. At least in Ajegunle today, you can count between 25-30 churches. Without being immodest I can say God has used me to turn Ajegunle around for God and His glory with the presence and activities of Bible Life Bible Church in this area,

Impacts of Leonard Umunna College, Leonard Umunna Medical Centre in the transformation of Ajegunle

These are purely my private investments since July 26, 1986, when I left government work. When God told me, Leonard, from today serve nobody; face my work fully but appoint people to represent you in your secular businesses. He asked me to establish the hospital following the footsteps of the missionaries that brought Christianity to Nigeria. That at least when someone is at the point of death or sickly, he would like to receive help, and if he received the help he would like to hear and listen to the gospel that we preach. Besides, God added that if I could catch the children young through provision of education to them, they would do better.

  • If God was not with Tinubu, Nigeria would have collapsed — Adebisi

If God was not with Tinubu, Nigeria would have collapsed — Adebisi

Prophet Peter Abiola Adebisi is the President of Christ Miracle Church Mission (CMCM Worldwide), a fast-growing church with a network of branches. He is also the President of the Champion of Fire Bible Institute that is preparing and equipping the saints for the expansion of the work of God. His flair for football made him sponsor a football club for the youth to exhibit their talents. He is the Chairman of Fire Football Club.  He spoke with AYOYINKA JEGEDE on the 25 years of stable democracy in the country.

Twenty five years of stable democracy in Nigeria, what’s your view?

Any journey starting with God will end well. I can say now clearly to the Glory of God that no matter the race, no matter who you are, everybody is now coming to a point of realising that there is God because they can see His finger in all things that are happening which beats science records and cannot be defined.

Any journey that starts with God will surely end well. The problem is the inability of the people to come to the realisation of knowing God and that’s why they kill other people in the name of rituals, faking and deceiving people. Now that the hearts of people are opening towards God, I can say boldly that by the special Grace of God, we are going to end well. Nigeria will end well because God said it and the spoken word of God is very special because it can never go in vain. God told me Nigeria is number one in Africa and that Nigeria is a force to be reckoned with.

No matter what is happening presently in this country, God told me, Nigeria is number one in Africa, in agriculture, financially and in all things, and we are going to be number one.  We shall become a hub center commercially. God has a very great plan for Nigeria, and we are going to end well no matter what is happening presently in the country.

There has been clamour for restructuring, what is your take on this?

Restructuring is good, but the number one utmost thing that we must do is to love one another.  To have one nation and to ensure unity in our diversity, there must be love for another. When we have love for one another, we will shun tribalism and exist as one nation. The truth is that without love, restructuring this nation will not work.

We should unite ourselves in love, imagine when Nigeria is playing football, we come together to watch, just as football unites us together.

Moreover, we should love and pray for this country above selfish interests, tribes, and sentiments. Americans will always say God bless America, let’s speak positivity into his country, I can assure you all will be well.

    Read Also: Nigeria’s secularism bogey

Let’s stop cursing this nation Nigeria because of frustration and hatred. If we allow love to unite us, restructuring will work easily. Let’s harmonise and come together in love for a greater purpose, and let’s pursue a common goal.

What’s the way forward? What are the institutions that you think we need to strengthen?

Majorly, love is the key. We can achieve a lot with love. Also, we should shun tribalism and have a common goal to move Nigeria forward. When we strengthen all our institutions in love, everything will go on smoothly.

     Are we truly democratized?

Yes, 25 years of stable democracy without military intervention is a testimony,  if somebody had said so 25 years ago that Nigeria can still be practising stable democracy, one would have said no. Let me note that there is a future for us and we shall all get there in Jesus Christ mighty Name.

Myriads of problems bedeviling the country, many are of the opinion that poor leadership has been and is still our problem, what’s your view on this?

Political leaders? What about the voters, it takes two to tango; it is worrisome that people collect money from politicians before they vote in this country. Voters sell their consciences at will for a pittance.  Our problem starts when we collect money from people to vote, believe me, the best candidate will emerge when we stop selling our conscience. If politicians spend billions of naira before they get into power, be very sure they will want to get it back by all means. We, the followers, the masses too should work on ourselves before pointing accusing fingers.

    What’s your advice?

25 years of stable democracy, I am very happy this is happening while I’m alive.  There is a brighter future for us all in this country.  God told me Nigeria is number one in Africa and I believe in the word of God more than anything.  Let’s all be rest assured, believing the word of God.

How would you assess President Tinubu-led administration, one year in office?

We give glory to God, if God was not with the President,  Nigeria would have collapsed. There is a lot of evidence to show that God is with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.  Since God is with him, surprisingly you will see that things will turn around for good.

How has the church, Christ Miracles Church Mission (CMCM) helped in strengthening democracy?

By God’s Grace here at the Christ Miracles Church Mission (CMCM), we have been preaching, and we shall continue to preach the raw undiluted word of God, which is the truth. We tell members to live Godly and love everyone no matter the tribe, race, sex, or religion.

We teach people to be selfless and respect others,  we tell people to obey laws and place the country’s Interest above selfish ambitions.

In respect of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),  CMCM gives scholarships to indigent students, and cash gifts to widows, the needy, and the less privileged no matter their religious affiliation.

In a bid to help youths fulfill God’s purpose for their destiny and to snatch them from myriads of ills bedeviling them in the present world, Christ Miracles Church Mission (CMCM) worldwide has given scholarships to over 100 indigent students who are members and non-members of the church.

We teach youths,  young adults, and teenagers on  developmental teachings, health seminars, skills acquisitions, career counseling, and mentoring as well as ICT training which  featured among other things; how to  stream church programmes , how to snap and edit pictures for social media page, live coverage of church services using phones and video camera,  how to bring audio into live stream for online members, how to use Vmix to mix video images and also to  display Bible verses, project information, and announcements, how to set up  a Web Page as well as digital Evangelism

To ameliorate the sufferings of the masses likewise, CMCM constantly gives food items such as rice, beans, garri, yams, and other food gifts every service day in the church.  We teach youths how to discover God’s purpose for their lives and work in it. It is a means of evangelism and mainly to capture the youths, teenagers, and young adults for Christ.
