Prepare men for leadership, cleric tells churches

    By Adeola Ogunlade

The Senior Pastor of His Glory Cloud church (HGC) praise chapel, Pastor Festus Edobor has called on the church to be deliberate in preparing the right army that will take over the affairs of the country.

Edobor said this at the just concluded 7th anniversary of the church at its headquarter in Lagos. The event tagged Alleluia brought together hundreds of Christain faithfuls from across the country which featured prayers, drama, business and family life seminars, and prophetic ministration.

He noted that no government of the world at any time have adequately or completely and independently provided a solution to the problems of the people, it is the church that has always been the place of answers.

He recalled that when there was a great famine in the land and the people began to eat themselves the King if Samaria made a call to prophet Elisha and God use the prophet to bring about plenty and prosperity in the land.

He recalled that during the pandemic, the church across the country was there to help lots of Nigerians through the regular distribution of palliatives and life support interventions.

He noted that the church for centuries in Nigeria has invested massively in the educational, healthcare, environment, and in the business sector because it remains a place of love and care for the downtrodden.

He said that it is high time that the church began to prepare men and women as God’s representatives to take over the affairs of the country.

He cited the scriptures saying that when the righteous rule, the people rejoice adding that it is time for the church to get involve and not stay aloof.

He opined that Nigerians have great potential and possibilities but the problem has been the death of leaders that will place a priority on the welfare and livelihood of the common man.

On the theme of this year’s anniversary, Alleluia, the pastor said that it is a season of praising God for the church as God has been their guide and stay, adding that praising God is not a time of merriment but to enforce merriment.

On when the ministry started, he said that the ministry started from nothing but by believing in the word of God and acting by faith, we are succeeding and making progress.

“I lost my parents as a child but my mother taught me how to depend on God and never to lose hope in life, that has been my driven force in life”, he said.

  • Wisdom: A fundamental requirement in the school of success!

Wisdom: A fundamental requirement in the school of success!

    By Dr. David Oyedepo

Welcome to another purposeful week! I hope you were blessed by last week teaching. This week, we shall focus on: Wisdom: A Fundamental Requirement in the School of Success!

According to Scriptures, the master plan of God for us is good success (Joshua 1:8). He is not happy seeing His children as failures because failure is not in God’s nature. As far as He is concerned, failure connotes spiritual death. However, it is important to understand that as each blessing in Scriptures demands the fulfilment of specific conditions, success has its mode of operation. In the school of success, wisdom is the principal thing and it is one of the core fundamentals of success. According to Ecclesiastes 10:5-10, There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler: Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place. I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth. He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him. Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby. If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct. In other words, princes walk on foot while servants ride on horses as a result of foolishness. He said, ‘folly is set in great dignity’. When a prince begins to operate foolishly, he is toying with his princely office. God wants us to retain our horseback status; He does not want servants to take our place. He wants us to be a good success, an eternal excellency and the joy and pride of many generations. However, this is only obtainable by forsaking foolishness and walking in wisdom. Please recognise that wisdom is the principal tool in maintaining our horseback position. As a king, Saul lost his exalted position for lack of wisdom (1 Samuel 13:13-14). We cannot lack wisdom and expect to be successful in our endeavours because success is attained and retained by wisdom. Things that have been developed and cultivated vigorously and carefully over the years can be destroyed in a matter of minutes for lack of wisdom. According to Ecclesiastes 10:10, …but wisdom is profitable to direct. Therefore, it becomes very important to be guided and directed by this all-important tool for success.

Furthermore, we cannot go far in life without wisdom. For it is written, Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding (Proverbs 4:7). The truth is that we need wisdom more than any other thing. If we must have good success, then we must pass the wisdom test because it is indispensable. For instance, Jesus’ life and ministry was guarded and guided by the accurate manifestation of wisdom. From childhood, He manifested wisdom and He grew up with it. Luke 2:40, 52 says, And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. If Jesus needed and used wisdom, then we cannot do without it.

We can get wisdom through three major ways:

    • At salvation (1 Corinthians 1:30).
    • By asking for it (James 1:5).
    • Through the laying on of hands (Deuteronomy 34:9).

In summary, if we sense lack of wisdom in our lives, we should ask God for it; He gives freely and generously too. He gave Solomon when he asked for it and Jesus had an abundance of it. The much of the wisdom we manifest depends on what attention we pay to the Word of faith. The Bible says Jesus is the wisdom and power of God (1 Corinthians 1:24). He is wisdom personified and He will dwell in us if we are born again. Therefore, if you are not born again, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! • How to make Nigeria work again, by Akinola

    By Adeola Ogunlade

The Presiding Bishop of Rhema Christian Church and Towers Dr Taiwo Akinola has called for selflessness and commitment to strategic measures to make Nigeria great again.

Nigeria, he said, is redeemable provided leaders are willing to give up perks of office and followers committed to joining hands to make the nation work.

Akinola told reporters that building a great, working nation calls for sacrifices as well as strict adherence to rule of law and order.

He spoke ahead of the Rhema World Convention of the church, which ends today with the theme “Abundant rain.”

Lamenting the worrisome inflation rate and contraction of the economy, the former university don said: “The economy is bleeding, with the attendant effects of gross falling living standard at homes, almost across the board.”

Rather than ease the burdens on Nigerians, he carpeted government for piling up taxes and charges, stating “it’s rather better to cut down on the huge cost of governance than passing the burdens onto the ordinary citizens who are just struggling to hold up their heads above the murky economic waters.”

He praised youths for the level of coordination displayed during the #ENDSARS protest, saying it was fuelled by years of systemic failure, which is frustrating to the younger generation.

Akinola called on government to meet all the demands of the protesters to safeguard the future of the country.

He condemned the anarchy and recklessness looting of public and private assets, declaring “lawlessness serves nobody’s interest.”

To beat rising insecurity occasioned by kidnapping and banditry in many parts of Nigeria, Akinola called for community policing, which he said will improve intelligence gathering and safety of neighbourhoods.

With youth unemployment at almost 60 percent, the cleric said the development was a time bomb that government must address with aggressive generation of jobs for the teeming youths.

On corruption, he said much will not change until public offices become unattractive. He urged government to fix leakages in the system wondering “how can we be complaining of lack of funds to invest in public infrastructure cum social services when there are lots of public funds allegedly going into private pockets?”

Speakers at the event included: Archbishop John Osa-Oni, Rev Kunle Adesina, Bishop Victor Akilla, Bishop Abiodun Akinteye and Bishop Israel Alaya.

  • Ashimolowo harps on financial education

    Ashimolowo harps on financial education

Founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo has decried the increasing level of poverty among black people, stating that true freedom is financial freedom.

He said during online Money Master Class said that blacks are far behind in the rating among rich people across the globe.

He added that only financial education can bring liberation from poverty.

According to him: “Without true understanding, applied knowledge and recollection of the history of what has brought you to this point in your finances, you will not be able to become wealthy

“You cannot gain economic freedom without re-educating your mind.  If you have the right education, the right attitude, the right information, the right mindset; you can become the best.”

He highlighted “90 Major differences between wealthy people and poor people”, adding that said to “be a poor man is hard. But to be a poor race in the land of dollars is a very bottom of hardship.”

He noted that wealthy black people in the US, despite the sophistication there, are still not more than 1 percent of the population adding that “No amount of protest can change things if you don’t have money.”

He said during apartheid in South Africa, four percent of the population controlled 87 percent of the wealth.

He said decades after apartheid was abolished, the 4 percent are still controlling 90 percent of the country’s wealth.

Ashimolowo added the rich-list published every May in the Times of London has just four blacks

“There are 2 million black people in the UK only 4 of them make the rich list. This shows you that a system does not change the economic strangulation of the people there,” he argued.

He lamented the second slavery of the blacks, noting by 2020, people are shipping themselves to the developed countries to do all kinds of demeaning jobs.

He added however that highly skilled people who live in the UK are barely surviving.

Referring to Belgium, which has a limited population, he said the country controls the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has a population of 140 million.

He said #Blacklivesmatter “protest cannot make any meaning until black people re-educate themselves.

“You can gain economic freedom by re-educating your mind. In any corner of the world with the right attitude, your well-being can change.

“True financial freedom does not come because of the abrogation of the system. You need more than relocation to find your allocation. You need a re-education.”

  • The place of character for supernatural breakthrough!

The place of character for supernatural breakthrough!

    By Dr. David Oyedepo

Welcome to another impactful week! I hope you were blessed by last week teaching. This week, we shall focus on: The Place of Character for Supernatural Breakthrough!

We understand from Scriptures that as children of God, redemption guarantees us a great future. As it is written, For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified (Romans 8:29-30). Redemption, by the blood of the lamb, also assures that we have a lively hope; the hope that maketh not ashamed (Jeremiah 29:11). It is truly the inheritance of the redeemed to have a great and enviable future. But what is the way to this desirable future? We cannot separate the future of a tree from its nature; the nature of a tree is what determines the fruit it bears. An orange tree cannot bring forth mango fruits neither can a guava tree bring forth orange fruits. Therefore, the fruit of a tree is what determines its future because inside the fruit is the seed and inside the seed is the tree again. In Isaiah 61:3, the Bible says that we are trees of righteousness, the plantings of the Lord that He might be glorified. Thus, our future is largely determined by our nature. The Bible says, Every tree that bringeth forth not good fruits is hewed down, and cast into the fire (Matthew 7:19). It means the absence of good fruits will terminate any great destiny – the future is dashed because it is not bringing forth good fruits. It is our nature that determines our future. Our habits define our habitat and our ‘make-up’ determines our ‘end-up’.

Therefore, understand that having a successful or great future is not a product of chance, but a task that has to be consciously tackled. Someone said, ‘You do not determine your destiny, you determine your character and your character defines your destiny’. Thus, character is the covenant block with which great futures are built.

    What is Character?

Success is not so much a function of what to do, but what to be. There are many people who are excellent in their field of endeavours; yet, every opportunity for lifting passes them by and this is because they lack the character required to match the position they aspire to attain. Therefore, what to be is much more important than what to do and this is because what we are actually determines what we do. Character is not a gift; it is a choice, which leaves us with a personal responsibility to cultivate. The quality of our character is the foundation for how great our future will be. Unfortunately, awareness of this fact is greatly missing in the body of Christ today. An African proverb says, ‘Character is the commander of fortune’. God enacted the law of divine success in Joshua 1:6-9 and a close look at the verses shows that God spoke to Joshua five times about what to ‘be’ and just twice about what to ‘do’. This goes to show how vital what we are is as opposed to what we do, in determining our success.

Character should be considered as one of the greatest assets in the school of success. Ability alone will never take us where character would. Success in life is a direct function of God’s favour, and it takes character to walk in favour. Joseph was a goodly person, a man of character and well-behaved, trustworthy, reliable, and dependable. Potiphar saw character in him and trusted him with all he had. Even in the prison, Joseph’s character was so glaring that it earned him favour there. Character crisis is basically at the root of every misfortune in life. Do you want to enjoy success in life? Then continuously develop a goodly personality and a lifestyle of enviable character. No matter how gifted a man is; if he lacks character, he will not have value. For instance, a motor mechanic, who is an expert in his trade that lacks integrity, will soon be out of business. He knows the job but people cannot trust him and as such, he loses the market. Not because he lacks expertise but because he lacks character. Nature is far superior to efforts; thus, other than spend more time on effort, we need to spend more time in building the kind of nature that will secure for us the kind of future we desire.

In conclusion, no matter the qualifications we have acquired, we will require quality character to make our destinies enviable. Some people have never enjoyed any fruitful tenure of office in any organisation and the reason is character deficiency. Therefore, it is not enough to have what the world needs; we must be who they want. However, you must be born again to exercise godly characters. If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. • Engaging the power of reasoning for all-round breakthrough!

Engaging the power of reasoning for all-round breakthrough!

    Bishop David Oyedepo

WELCOME to another exciting week! I hope you were blessed by last week teaching. This week, we shall focus on: Engaging the Power of Reasoning for All-round Breakthrough!

It is mental exercise that produces mental excellence and mighty works. No wonder people wondered where Jesus got His wisdom and mighty works from. Jesus displayed a great mind in His earthly ministry. It is common knowledge that it is our minds that determines our worth; therefore, without a mind, no one will mind us. Only men with sound minds draw the attention of others. Solomon’s wisdom drew the attention of nations in his days. Our overall state in life is a direct function of the state of our minds. Every star is a thinker and every thinker is a potential star. When the place of the mind is well understood, prayer will be shorter and life will be richer. The whole of God’s creation is tied to the operation of wisdom or to the use of the mind. In fact, the Bible refers to God as the only wise God and the all-knowing God. We have a great invitation in Scripture that establishes God’s recognition of the place of the mind. He said in Isaiah 1:18, Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. So, God believes in His investment in our lives. He believes our minds are an asset for interaction, fellowship and communion. He believes our minds can deliver us from sin. Our minds are divine deposits; it has all it takes to change our destinies, but it has to be stirred (Hebrews 5:14).

Then, how can we Stir up our Minds?

    • Reasoning: Reasoning is the principal function of the mind. To reason implies engaging in rational, logical and analytical thinking. Reasoning is the ability to process issues into logical and productive ends. So, our minds are biological factories. Concerning the prodigal son, the Bible says he reasoned, …How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! (Luke 15:17) After that, his reasoning evolved into a plan of action (verse 18). He arose and went back home, and his destiny was restored overnight. Please understand that we are not failures until we start looking for who to blame for it. Beware of the Bethesda syndrome, …I have no man… (John 5:5-9). That impotent man by the pool was grounded for thirty-eight years because he had no plan for escape. His example shows that if we do not apply the fundamental law of reasoning, it is possible to waste a whole lifetime. Therefore, to neglect it means one will never become a success. God says, Come now, and let us reason together… (Isaiah 1:18). So, He cannot tell us to do what He has not equipped us to do. Reasoning is a product of the mind and remember, we have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16).

In summary, if we refuse to do the mental work that the race of life demands, we will end up doing the menial jobs on the earth. Therefore, wake up and begin to plan! However, you must be born again. If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now, I know I am born again!
