  • Don’t rush into fame, grow into greatness- Cleric urged

    Omolara Akintoye

The Senior Pastor, Christ Living Apostolic Ministries (CLAM) Apostle Wole Oladiyun has charged clerics never to rush into fame but rather grow into greatness. He was speaking at the Inauguration Service of Hallmark of Success Ministries which was held at Akute, Ogun State recently.

Oladiyun while charging the Pastor of the new Church which is being inaugurated, Pastor Victor Basola enjoined him to always take instructions form God as well as please Him at all times.

Taking his declaration from 1Tim. 1:12, Oladiyun warned him to be prepared for opposition as this will be a test to greatness.

Also speaking, the Senior Pastor, The Vindicated Christian Ministries, Rev Lawrence Olaniyi tasked the cleric to stand on 3 key things that are crucial to the success of a Ministry namely; “Never operate in ignorance: Never play with your calling and finally ensure that you operate on biblical doctrines which Jesus Christ laid down” he said.

“This new Church is the birth of a new nation though starting locally will have a global impact”  said Olaniyi.

On his part, the Presiding Pastor, Influencers International Christian Centre Bishop Jide Ayangbesan spoke on the importance of family harmony as yardstick to a successful ministry. His words to Pastor Basola “ You must rule your house well because many homes has fallen apart under the strain of pastoral ministry. The success of any Ministry is dependent on the success of the marriage, if the man is busy, the wife should be available” Ayangbesan warned.

While thanking God for the inauguration, Pastor Victor Basola remembered how God called him to start the church few months back. “Though I’ve been an evangelist from childhood, but God told me some months ago that I’m going to plant a church in this Akute environment and He sent me forth here, He confided in me that He will support me if I obey and trust in Him. I don’t intend to sustain God’s work because He’s capable of sustaining what He has started “ said Basola.

The new Church was later dedicated by Pastor Oladiyun and Pastor Olaniyi.

  • ‘Lack of discipline bane of national development’

Pastor (Dr) Israel Kristilere is the senior pastor of ShepherdHill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Lagos. In this interview with Fredrick Adegboye, the cerebral man of God talks about why Nigeria is not developed, why the country’s political leaders are the way they are, the recently held Just Worship programme of the church he superintends and his lows and highs as a minister of the gospel.

Your surname is Kristilere, is that your original family name?

No, I used to be Awolere but the Lord led me to change the name to Kristilere on January 1st, year 2000. I bore the other name Awolere till 31st December, 1999. But, I started bearing Kristilere from year 2000.

Nigeria is without saying the most-churched country in the world and undoubtedly one of the least developed, should it be so?

It shouldn’t be so, but, unfortunately, it is so. I need to say that the development of a nation is not only a function of religiosity; religiosity without morality, religiosity without discipline can never produce development. The fact that some nations are not as religious as we are but they imbibe the discipline of the scripture, the tenets of the scripture, even though without professing the faith, they are growing. You see nations whereby each citizen is disciplined. If we talk about corruption today you will agree with me that corruption is anti the Bible, indiscipline is anti the Bible, laziness is anti the Bible. So, in any country whereby people only embrace religiosity and fail to embrace the tenets, the teachings of the Bible or of their religion, then they cannot find development.            What are we doing wrong as a people that we are seemingly saddled with bad leaders?

A nation, like somebody had said many years back and I quoted that in my recent conference, “a nation deserves the crop leaders”. I believe that the crop of leaders we have is not God’s choice, we are the ones who make choices and we made those choices out of our own personal choices which is in terms of seeking to satisfy ourselves first. Election was just some time ago, another one in few years. If you ask each person, what made you choose the one you voted for? Most times what you will hear is because he did this for me or because he said he will do this for me. We are making our choices not based on integrity, are these the people we can rely on? Most of the time people vote based on what these people are able to offer them. And if that is the point which made us to make choices, we cannot but have leaders who will get there and try to fill their pockets. As long as election process in Nigeria is a money-spraying venture, as long as the amount you used to obtain a form to contest, as long as you need to spend money to settle some quarters before you contest, we can never have right leaders. Until we get to the level in which an ordinary civil servant can pick a form with his meagre salary and needs not spend money to bribe people before he can contest, we can never get the right leader because it’s always a money-spending programme and that is why when they come to office, it is always a money-grabbing system.

But the Bible says, “there is no leader that be except of God”. So, when you are saying ‘our choices’, that is just like saying ‘the voice of the people is the voice of God’. So, you are now saying that the Bible in this instance is not right, particularly in this Nigerian situation.

I’ve not said the Bible is not right but we must not forget that there are two wills of God in the Bible; the perfect will and the permissive will of God. The perfect will of God is for us to have right leaders, while the permissive will is for us to have right to make our choices and our choices are the people who satisfy us in office. I’m still shocked that in the last election people were seen distributing rice, salt and so on, and people were collecting them, and jubilating. A politician brought a load of rice and he is giving you and you did not think that when he gets there, he will get back that money first. Until we get go the level that such men will find nobody to take their rice and tell them ‘to hell with your rice!’ So, God has not left us. He is still interested in our well being but God will not force us to make our choices; that is one thing he has given us as human beings – the opportunity to make our choices. I believe we are the one making the wrong choices. The moment we start making right choices we have a better nation. We must also not forget that the people we are calling our leaders, all these people leading us didn’t come from Cameroun, they didn’t come from Kenya neither did they come from Ghana; they come from among us, and they are a reflection of who we are generally.

Now, let’s talk about the Church generally. Is it not an aberration for doctrines to divide the universal Church because Christ spoke about one Church in the Bible?

The truth of the matter is that denominationalism which is as a result of doctrines differences, as you have said, cannot be avoided;. As long as we are human beings, even the Bible itself may not present denominationalism, but if we take time to study even the prophets, you will realise that the presentation of their messages differ from one prophet to the other. So, why is one preaching fire? Why is one crying? And why is one preaching in his songs? It is because we are diverse, so the measure of denominations we have to be in the world is as a result of our diversity. A single word, a single sentence can be interpreted by two people in three different ways and denominationalism comes because people interpreted the scripture differently. It has not changed the scripture. But the fact is this, in spite of the denominations we may have, one thing still binds the Church of Christ together; ‘faith in Christ’. Any denomination that does not believe that Christ was born through a virgin, the miracle He performs, the ministry, that is not a Christian denomination. So, that is what we call ‘Faith’, which you all must have to become part of the universal Church. How you operate, how you do things would differ and that’s what’s left. It shouldn’t be a problem but we are making it a problem. The fact that you have not seen a particular scripture the way I’ve seen it shouldn’t make you my enemy, I should just realise that maybe the doctrine you are using is different from my own. We can look at the same matter and view it differently and that shouldn’t make us enemies.

How would you differentiate between Christian service and Christian worship?

I believe that your service should be a reflection or a product of your worship. A man who genuinely worships God, who has entered into God’s presence will go out there to manifest God’s glory in how he serves God outside there. So, when you see a variation in the life of a man who claims to have worshipped God and his service, you know that something has gone wrong somewhere. But, truly, a man what has been in God’s presence, who has rubbed his minds and bodies with God will go out there to display the glory of God and the will of God. It’s like the way people go to church on Sundays to worship God these days. When they get to their office you will wonder whether they have never been to church. I wonder why. To me, that is an abberation. True worship of the almighty should change us inside out, not just only inside but when we get out there, there must be a reflection.

Pastor owning private jet has been an age-long controversy, what’s your take on that?

I have no problem with any pastor owning private jet if he can afford it, what I’m opposed to is if he is owning that private jet at the detriment of many of his members who are struggling financially and he is taking money from them to build his own castle. I think that is wrong. I believe something that if Jesus were in the world today and he wants to go through world evangelism, one if the equipment He will need is a jet to go round. Not every pastor will own a private jet, not all pastors should own it. If we are talking about businessmen, there are legal businessmen whose businesses cannot flow unless they fly across countries even almost every day to get the things done.

What is the idea behind the Just Worship programme of your church?

By the grace of God, it’s a vision that God gave me in 2008. I was in Malaysia for ministerial training. During the course of worshipping at the conference, God told me that I need to put together a seven-hour worship session whereby people do nothing but just worship God. In that particular session which I had that time I discovered that I found myself breaking down even in atmosphere of worship. I couldn’t withstand myself again. I knew that I could feel God’s presence over me. And for another four years, I couldn’t do it because of the cost implication. Until the year 2012, I was able to launch out. God give me the assignment and so be it, let me do it. That was when we had the first edition till date where we are having the eighth edition.

Since you became a pastor, can you mention a particular incident that made you sad?

Yeah, I could. I think the moment I wouldn’t forget was one of my pastorates where a leader in the church where I was serving then misbehaved. He was a leader in the church and he impregnated a lady and I got to know. I felt this kind of behaviour should not be allowed and the man in question should be disciplined. I had no doubt that everybody would agree with me that we should not have such behaviour in the church of God. But to my dismay, I saw people who were vehemently supporting him to the extent that they wanted to fight me.

I also had an occasion whereby in the church, a man decided to marry the wife of another member. The woman left her husband and another member of the church began to date and marry her. And I said this cannot be. I assumed everybody would agree with me but to my dismay I had a handful of people who saw nothing wrong. Their concern was that at least the woman had left the man so anybody can pick her up.

When would you say was your highest height in ministry?

Those are moments when God worked beyond my expectation. I would say that when Just Worship began, because when I finally agreed to obey God not knowing how it would turn out. God had spoken to me and I said ‘I don’t have money’ and he spoke to me that the little money I had I should go and speak to people to support. When the multitude gathered in our auditorium that year, I could not but cry. . People come from all manners of churches, as long as you are a child of God, either C&S, Redeemed, Anglican, CAC, that night we don’t know your church and there is nothing like mode of service.

Also, I could remember when I preached at a crusade and saw many people giving their lives to Jesus. Though there have been moments of miracles, the peak of it was when I saw the connection of God and people saw that this is not man but God working. So, those are the moments I have cherished most.

  • Engaging the power of sanctification for fulfilment of destiny!

    David Oyedepo

Welcome to December! I believe every one of us must have had definite encounters with God via praise in the course of the month of November 2019, I pray that each of us will keep telling the story of our diverse encounters for life (Amen). This week, we shall focus on: Engaging the Power of Sanctification for Fulfilment of Destiny!

From scriptures, we discover that every child of God is ordained a mountaintop global citizen. As it is written, Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid (Matthew 5:14; see also Deuteronomy 28:1; Genesis 28:14). However, it is not enough to discover destiny, we must know how to see it fulfilled (Galatians 3:29). That means we are ordained to bless our world, and not to be a burden to our world. However, to fulfil that glorious, colourful and enviable destiny, certain things must be in place. Among these things is sanctification —living to please God. Sanctification is a spiritual catalyst for fulfilment of destiny (Proverbs 14:34). That means it takes sanctification to go up and to stay up. Samson went up by sanctification; but he came down by desecration (Judges 13:3-5, 16:1-30). Also, think of Solomon, he loved many strange women and he ended up in a shrine (1 Kings 11:1-6).  That establishes the fact that destiny is at risk without sanctification.

Furthermore, sanctification is the will of God. As it is written, For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour (1 Thessalonians 4:3-4). That means there must be a way to live a sanctified life. And we must know the way to possess our vessels in sanctification and honour. Jesus said, Which of you convinceth me of sin? (John 8:46; see also 2 Corinthians 5:21). If Jesus knew no sin, but became sin for us; how then did Jesus have dominion over sin?

First, we must understand that iniquity is a mystery; but, godliness is a ‘great mystery’. The Bible says, For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way (2 Thessalonians 2:7; see also 1 Timothy 3:16). So, we have the mystery of iniquity that can only be swallowed up by the great mystery of godliness just like in the case of Aaron’s Rod, swallowing up the rods of the magicians (Exodus 7:10-12). Jesus had the Spirit of Holiness on His life; that was what empowered Him to have dominion over sin (Romans 1:4). Jesus, the holy child of God, still needed the Spirit of Holiness to live a sanctified life (Luke 1:30-35). That means every one of us must understand that the Spirit of Holiness is the only way to live a sanctified life (1 Corinthians 6:11).

    Why Do We Need Sanctification?

    • It is Required for Answered Prayers: It is important for us to know that we need sanctification to qualify for answered prayers (Psalm 66:18-20; Isaiah 59:1-2). However, one interesting thing about our God is that any time we repent of our sins, He forgives us as if we never did it.
    • It Enhances our Access to Revelations: Revelation is buying into the heart of God on the issues of the hour. Joseph had access to the secrets of God and it was said of him forasmuch as God has shown you all these things, you are in another class (Genesis 41:37-40; Psalm 25:14). So, access to revelation requires sanctification; otherwise, we will be limited to information which anybody can have.
    • For Next-Levels of Anointing: Not every anointed man is impactful. It takes fresh oil to command fresh impact (Psalm 92:10; Luke 5:37-38). If you don’t change the oil in your car, the engine will soon knockdown. It is walking in the newness of life that guarantees access to fresh oil (Proverbs 1:23; Psalm 45:7).
    • For Security of Destiny: Many great destinies in scriptures crashed for lack of sanctification. Think of Achan, who saw a wedge of gold and coveted it. He took it into his tent, dug the ground and kept it there and that ended his destiny, and that of his entire family (Joshua 7:19-26).
    • Security of Posterity: Our uprightness is the security of our generation (Psalm 112:1-2). Our walk today, determines the blessings of our children tomorrow (Proverbs 20:7). So, stop playing games!
    • To Secure Eternity with Christ: We need sanctification, so we can make heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

Channels through Which the Holy Ghost Sanctifies Us

    • By the Impartation of the Spirit of Holiness: This impartation could come to us directly, as we crave and thirst for Him (Luke 11:13). We can also access the impartation of that Spirit through apostolic and prophetic ministries (Romans 1:11).
    • By the Revelation of the Truth: Revelation empowers for sanctification and the Holy Ghost is our access to revelation. That means He enhances our access to sanctification (John 17:17; Psalm 19:7-9, 119:9-11).
    • The Holy Ghost Releases the Spirit of Prayer and Supplication, so we can overcome all Temptations: Prayer is a channel for overcoming temptations. In Matthew 26:41, the disciples could not pray because their flesh was weak. So, the Holy Ghost empowers us on the prayer altar, so we can overcome temptations, day and night. And He also empowers us to pray the transfiguration prayer (Matthew 26:41-44; Ephesians 6:18; Romans 8:26-27).

In conclusion, destiny is at a risk without sanctification. Solomon lost it all. Samson became a toy in the hands of his enemies; they plucked out his two eyes and asked him to dance for them. Judas, an apostle, lost it. Achan lost his entire lineage. Gehazi became leprous. In weakness, they all crashed; but we shall not crash!  However, you must be born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! • Sack corrupt persons in government, Olagunju tells Buhari

    Adeola Ogunlade

The General Overseer of Christ Apostolic Church, Agbala Olotun ni Gbani, Pastor Moses Olagunju, has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to make frantic effort to relieve corrupt persons serving under his government of their appointments as that will strengthen the anti-corruption efforts of his administration.

He said this in an interview with The Nation ahead of the church’s 14-day Freedom Festival which starts today at the church headquarters in Egbeda, Lagos.

The festival is tagged: In the beginning and will bring together thousands of Christian faithful, feature prayers, bible teachings, song rendition and prophetic ministration.

He said that the anti-corruption efforts of the federal government is commendable, as it is boosting investor confidence in the Nigerian market and is creating a positive image of the country.

Olagunju noted that Nigerians will support the anti-corruption fight of the government if the president relieves corrupt or alleged corrupt individuals serving in his cabinet.

He noted that corruption in public spaces has brought Nigeria to its knees over the years and must be addressed decisively if Nigeria will ever make progress.

God, he claimed, told him that Nigeria will continue to suffer because of the sins of and wicked practices by selfish and corrupt leaders, adding that President Buhari is on the right path but must not harbour corrupt persons in his administration.

He went further to charge church leaders to continue to speak truth to power and intentionally prepare men for heaven. Olagunju warned ministers of God who have forgotten their calling and are focusing on acquiring money, fame and power.

“If you acquire all the money, cars, and other material things of life and you continue to deceive the people, what will be your gain at end of the day?” He asked

He added that if we place our priorities on deliverance, healing and prosperity of our congregants without repentance and genuine salvation, they will continue to be under perpetual bondage and torture of the devil.

He stated further that the essence of the Freedom Festival is to celebrate the day he gave his lives to Jesus in 1986 and since then, he has taken out time to reach out to as many people as possible with the message of the gospel of Jesus.

  • ‘Stop ethnic politics’

Politicians have been urged to stop playing ethnic cards and learn from 1994 Rwanda experience where over a million people were massacred during the genocide in the country.

An evangelist, Reverend Esther Abimbola Ajayi who spoke at Kigali Genocide Memorial Arcade in Rwanda said, “Twenty five years after genocide, I can still feel the impact among the people. The memory is still fresh and their tears are yet to dry. I pray such heinous crime against humanity would never happen again in Africa, especially in Nigeria.

“We must continue to pray for Nigeria for peace to reign. Our religious and political leaders must preach love and peace at all times and we must be our brother’s keepers.”

She observed “The good thing I see in Rwanda is the good spirit to forgive and march on. Though they didn’t forget the incident and that made them to resolve that never again would they allow anybody to divide them. No more Hutus or Tutsi but they see themselves as Rwandans. This should be a great lesson to Nigerians.”

She asked politicians fanning the embers of disunity to visit Rwanda and see the effect of what they were preaching. Mother Ajayi said Nigeria and indeed, Africa needed leaders that would preach love, peace and unity amongst their people and canvass for votes on what they have to offer and not on ethnic sentiment.

The evangelist her husband, Reverend Ademuyiwa Ajayi were invited to the country by the Rwanda Development Board (RBD) and Solace Ministries, a non-profit, non-denominational Christian organization dedicated to comforting widows and orphans in response to the overwhelming needs of traumatized survivors of genocide especially HIV/AIDS.

Apart from helping Rwandans to heal their wounds, the organization is essentially committed to reconciling them with Christ.

Welcoming the Ajayis to Rwanda, the Chief Investment Officer of RDB, Mr Guy Baron appealed to the family to invest in the country especially in the real estate and agriculture.

After visiting the patients in the hospital and its new structure under construction, the Ajayis and their entourage joined them in the fellowship to praise God for the lives of the survivors.

A survivor, Gakwandi, who narrated how he survived the war said, “Today is a special day for us. Though we are small but we have a very big God. I heard of what Rev Ajayi is doing around the world but I thought we are not in the category of people she could have time to visit.”

Ajayi in her ministration counselled, “Devil will always want to remind you of yesterday to get you stuck in pains but forget yesterday and thank God for today and be assured of greater things God will do for you tomorrow.”

He said that all researches conducted so far extolled St Moses Orimolade Tunolase as a true prophet of God and admonished some churches using candles for what Baba Tunolase never used it for.

He said he was particularly happy that Alao was toeing the path of Orimolade, the reason why the university gave him the honour and will constantly call on him and other awardees to contribute to religious studies in the Ivory Tower.

Alao, who expressed his appreciation for the award and said he was particularly happy that the first university in Nigeria held St Moses Orimolade in high esteem and recognised the good works he did for salvation and spiritual deliverance of many people.

Pastor (Dr) Israel Kristilere is the senior pastor of ShepherdHill Baptist Church, Obanikoro, Lagos.
