Apapa Family renovates, equips LASUTH ICU unit

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Apapa Family upped its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) penultimate Sunday with the renovation and equipment of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Lagos State Teaching University Hospital (LASUTH).

The ward was donated in honour of general overseer of the church and his wife, Pastors Enoch and Folu Adeboye in ‘’appreciation of their humility and selfless services,’’ according to head of Apapa Family, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.

The donation climaxed the annual Excel programme of the church with the theme ’’The pains and gains of change.’’

Welcoming thousands of participants, including guests to the spiritual-cum-humanitarian programme, Iluyomade gave a quick summary of achievements by the family in the last one year.

He stated that 190,753 souls have been saved in the programme in the last six years.

He further informed full pastors in the region has risen to 422 with 660 others as assistants. Average attendance, according to him, has grown to 140,631 in the region.

On the essence of the theme, Iluyomade said Nigeria was passing through transitions economically, politically and socially.

‘’There is no denying the fact that change is hard, tough and could take a long time before it has it full effect on any individual, institution or nation.

‘’Nigeria embraced change about two years ago to avert a perceived disaster and it is important to wait out the pains for the gains to fully materialise,’’ he explained.

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who was special guest, hailed the giant strides achieved by Apapa Family.

According to him: ‘’The church has witnessed laudable initiatives, which are aimed at not only addressing the spiritual but also the physical needs of worshippers.’’

Praising the emphasis of the themes around change in recent years, Ambode, who was represented by former deputy governor, Femi Pedro, said:‘’The pains usually experienced with change is the necessary sacrifice that must be paid to achieve an enduring and fulfilling life.’’

He noted Nigeria was yet to arrive at the Promised Land but pointed out there were positive indications the nation was making steady progress.

Adeboye, who delivered a sermon on the theme of the programme, said change had already started in Nigeria.

He noted with pleasure the numerous divine interventions and policies of government, saying those who have not yet yielded fruit will soon crystalise with time.

The renowned preacher said change must begin with individual Nigerians, pointing out a nation is as developed as the quality of its citizens.

To get the desired change, Adeboye called on Nigerians to draw closer to God, commit to self-development and be law-abiding.

Few minutes after delivering the sermon at the Tafawa Balewa Square Lagos, he landed at LASUTH in Ikeja for the long-awaited commissioning.

The Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, Prof Wale Oke, who was represented by Director Hospital Administration and Human resources, Mrs. Olatokunbo Adio, thanked the church for the donation.

The church, he said, has been ensuring lives are saved and is  ‘’passionate to give back to the society and touch the souls of the less privileged spiritually, physically and otherwise irrespective of religion, region or race.’’

He was full of thanks to Apapa Family for reaching out to the less privileged by renovating and equipping the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

He hailed Governor Ambode for transforming LASUTH but pointed out government alone cannot shoulder the responsibilities ‘’especially with the day to day increase in population of the citizens of Lagos State.’’

The CMD challenged other churches and denominations to emulate the charitable spirit of Apapa family.

He stressed: ‘’We are grateful to RCCG for reaching out to the less privileged and for the several lives that would be spiritually and physically saved by this great gesture.’’

Commissioning the newly renovated ICU, Adeboye offered prophetic prayers for the emergence of a dawn in the hospital.

Adeboye said: “This plaque is opened in the name of the father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. My father and my God we pray that beginning from now in this place, there will be no more death.

‘’Anyone who is brought here will go back home smiling. We ask that your healing power will begin to operate here now.

‘’In the entire hospital, this day will mark a turning point for the better and for those who work here my father and my God let it be well with them.

‘’Take care of their families and let your healing power flow through them. I pray Lord God Almighty that this day will begin a new time of testimonies of signs and wonders, not only in this hospital but in all the hospitals in Lagos State and all those who are present here.

‘’If you have any form of ailment at all, heal them all in Jesus name. We unveil this plague in the name of the father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, God bless you.”

Head of the ICU unit, Dr AdetinuweMajekundomi, was also full of thanks to the Apapa family for uplift of the centre.

“We take care of patients that are critically ill, patients that are more sick than normal; patients that have problems with breathing, patients that are very ill.

‘’We also receive patients of road accident victims, cases that are serious and need to be operated in operating room and recover in a monitor room.”

On the specific items donated by the church, Majekodunmi said: “They did renovation of the facility- all the doors, windows and toilet facilities with tiling of the floor.

‘’Then, the equipment they donated include four state-of-the-art monitors that can do critical monitoring.

‘’They also donated four state-of-the-art beds and mattresses. It will increase the level of care we are providing for the patients before now.”

She added: ‘’We can give our patients standard care better than we were doing before. And in view of the machines that were here, they can be moved to other areas that didn’t have monitoring.

‘’Now, we have four monitoring machines that can be used in other areas of the hospital.”

  • Don’t set nation on fire, Abiara warns youths

General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church, Dr Samuel Abiara, has warned youths from the south east and north to desist from making statements capable of setting the nation on fire.

Nigeria, he said, cannot afford another repeat of the 1966-1970 civil war episodes.

Abiara spoke on Saturday during a 30-day revival by Joy Cometh Ministries in Ikorodu, Lagos.

He also told military officers contemplating nursing the idea of coup to perish the thought because they will fail woefully.

The renowned preacher said: “I must use this medium to warn the northern and eastern youths to desist from making any statement that can lead this Nation to chaos. It will not do us any good at all.

“If there is any grievance among these people, let the parties be called to a round table for discussion. Let the matter be settled amicably.

“We must all seek unity, peace and stability of Nigeria. We must not allow anything to tamper with her peace and unity.

He told South-east indigenes in the north not to panic over the quit notice, saying God will intervene in the heated issue.

Abiara said: “I want to call on all Nigerians to keep their minds at rest. Especially our IGBO brothers and sisters who have been asked to leave the northern part of the country.

“God is our father. He owns Nigeria. He will help us as long as we obey Him.

“I admonish all the eastern people not to panic at all. God is in control. They should not react negatively to this matter.”

On those planning military take-over, the preacher said:

“Kindly stop because it will not succeed. Such attempt will not enjoy the backing of God and no international community support, so it will fail.

“I want to advise the Military to focus on what they are called to do. That is, to protect the nation and the people of Nigerian against any external attack.”

  • Why Nigeria needs rotational presidency, by Asaju

Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University Oyo State, Prof.DapoAsaju, has advocated for rotational presidency to address persistent agitations among the six geo-political zones.

He said rotational presidency will give everyone a sense of belonging and guarantee the stability of the nation.

Asaju spoke last week at the opening ceremony of the week-long International Conference on African Pentecostalism (ICAP) with theAfrican Pentecostalism and development in Africa and Diaspora.

The conference, which attracted hundreds of theologians across the continent, held at the Redemption camp KM46 Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

It was organised by The Redeemed Christian Bible College.

Asaju condemned the drumbeats of war across the nation, saying the needless agitations were negating developmental issues.

He said secession will not resolve the nation’s problems, warning no nation has ever survived two civil wars.

On the agitation by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, the renowned theologian said: “The issue of Biafra leaving this country is a very sensitive one. God who created us as one country did not make a mistake.’’

Rotational presidency, according to him, will address such agitations.

Asaju said:”There is nothing wrong with a rotational presidency. We have had enough of the Yorubas and Hausas.

‘’They have had more than enough of military and civilian. Let us stabilise at this particular time.

“Let us allow the presidency to go to the Igbos and let them make their contributions.

‘’That way you can placate them because leaving the country is not a solution.’’

Asaju warned that if war starts, only the vulnerable poor will suffer, pointing those agitating for war will take off much like late Emeka Ojukwu and Dr Nnmadi Azikiwe did during the civil war.

He appealed to Nigerians to unite and wade off war-mongers among them.

Asaju lamented the eroding influence of Christianity in the West, saying Africa must champion efforts to re-evangelise Europe.

He challenged families to revitalise the faith to counter forces working against the spread of the gospel.

  • Unveiling the miracle power of thanksgiving! (1)

From scriptures, we discover that thanksgiving is one of the great mysteries in the Kingdom. This is because in thanksgiving lies unimaginable values. As it is written: And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. Their children also shall be as aforetime, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them. And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from the midst of them; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach unto me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach unto me? saith the Lord. And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God (Jeremiah 30:19-22).

For instance, when the mystery of thanksgiving was engaged in scriptures, it raised Lazarus to life after being dead for four days. The power in thanksgiving also multiplied a little boy’s lunch to feed five thousand men, excluding women and children. That is an estimate of ten thousand people fed, with leftovers. In other words, at the instance of thanksgiving, miracle working powers are provoked from heaven (Luke 11:40-44; John 6:6-11).

Let’s examine some miracle powers embedded in thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving preserves our blessings: Thanksgiving is simply acknowledging God for what He has done in our lives. When we do so, we insure and secure our blessings from curses. As it is written: And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you. If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it (Malachi 2:1-3; see also Jeremiah 13:16-17).

Again, the Bible makes us understand that whatever God does is forever. However, we must engage the mystery of thanksgiving to commit Him to perform. God expects timely thanksgiving from us, because it perfects our blessings.

It multiplies our blessings: The mystery of thanksgiving guarantees the multiplication of God’s blessings in our lives. For instance, when Jesus gave thanks, five loaves of bread and two fishes multiplied supernaturally and fed five thousand men excluding women and children (John 6:6-11; Psalms 67:5-7). Also, concerning Abraham, the Bible records: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God (Romans 4:20) So if we are Abraham’s seed, we must  do the work of Abraham who was strong in faith and gave glory to God before his Isaac came. Let us recognize that the blessings of   receiving more and more are God’s agenda for us. As it is written: But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day (Proverbs 4:18; see also Habakkuk 3:17-19).

However, it takes engaging in the covenant of thanksgiving to move from one level to another.  Until we thank Him for the last, we are not qualified for the next.  We have to commit to thanking Him before we can move from one level of glory to another.

It entitles us to fresh oil: Speaking on thanksgiving, David said: It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High. To shew forth thy loving kindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night. Thereafter, he said: But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of a unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil (Psalms 92:1-2, 10).That means thanksgiving and praise are covenant platforms through which we encounter fresh oil from God.

Again, we see in the scripture, how David praised God seven times a day and God speaking of him, said: I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him: With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him. The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him. And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him (Psalm 89:20-23; see also Psalm 119:164).

Furthermore, Apostle Paul, whom God anointed to write two-third of the New Testament, said: In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

This means the exploits of Paul recorded in scriptures are traceable to a life of thanksgiving. Therefore, the more addicted we are to thanksgiving, the fresher the oil on our lives. However, it is important to understand that just as thanksgiving guarantees the flow of fresh oil, murmuring and complaining dries up the flow (Joel 1:10-12). In actual fact, murmuring is a weapon used by the devil to destroy lives and many people have fallen victim of this trap. So, the challenges are not the reason why people are losing ground to the devil, it is the way they handle the challenges that determines the results. While some will keep complaining about their challenges, others will keep giving thanks until there is a turnaround in their situation.

I have often said that if you have lost anything in life, God is the reason why you have not lost everything. So make it a choice today to be an addicted thanks giver. Nevertheless, in order for your thanksgiving to be acceptable, you must be saved. Are you born again? This means, have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord? If you haven’t, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: The Wonders of Praise and Understanding the Power of Praise. • Set examples of transparency, Oyo deputy gov tells churches

Oyo State Deputy Governor Otunba Moses Adeyemo has enjoined churches to become centres of transparency and purveyors of the desired change in the nation.

He spoke at the 18th annual convention and thanksgiving service of Sanctuary of Christ Evangelical Church, Ibadan with the theme “Roles of church in national development.”

Adeyemo said churches can no longer bow, indifferent to the travails of the nation, stressing ‘’it is time we rose to our responsibilities as the salt of the earth and the light of the world.”

The deputy governor explained: “If we desire to see more transparency in government, commerce and industry, then we the church must take the lead in demonstrating transparency through our own operations, leading by example. In other words, we must become the change we desire.”

Adeyemo enjoined the churches to always promote values that will culminate in national development such demanding adequate funding for education, promoting honesty, placing values on punctuality and dignity of labour as well as savingand investments.

In the seven-point agenda on the state of the nation entitled: Giving Hope to Nigerians, he delivered at the 18th annual convention, General Overseer of the church, Pastor GbadeOjo, who is also Chief of Staff to Oyo State governor, said corrupt politicians part of the rots of the last eight years should be fished out and prosecuted.

He said President Muhammadu Buhari administration must be seen to be truly committed to fighting corruption and cutting down on the huge costs of governance.

Ojo stressed: “Nigerians expect a sincere, genuine and complete war against corruption with no sacred cows.

‘’This is especially so considering many of the politicians now masquerading as patriots and agents of change in APC were part of the rots of the last eight years, both within and outside government.”

  • Methodist Diocese to NASS, others: join anti-graft war

The Methodist Church Metropolitan Diocese of Ikeja has hailed the federal government for the sustained anti-graft war.

The war, it said, has been yielding results with focused, dogged onslaughts on all sectors of the economy.

In a communique at its maiden synod, the Diocese called on other arms of government to join the executive in ridding the nation of corruption.

According to the Synod presided over by Bishop Stephen Adegbite: ‘’no arm of a government should be seen to be mounting a stumbling block against concerted efforts geared towards winning this war.’’

It also praised the ant-terrorism war, lauding international agencies for the recent release of 82 Chibok girls.

On the economy, it noted the parlous state of the nation, calling on government to consider agriculture as a viable option for diversification.

It said: ‘’Diversification of our economy must be given priority if we are to overcome the recession in which our economy currently lies.’’

The Diocese expressed serious concerns over the activities of killer-herdsmen across the nation, calling on the federal government to address the situation with the same verve and commitment with which the Boko Haram menace was tackled.

It further called for immediate enactment of laws that will guide cattle grazing on public lands.

On the menace of kidnapping, the Diocese expressed disgust it has gained grounds in nearly every section of the country.

It wondered how they are able to move the amount of cash they receive as ransom around without any trace or possible tracking, calling on security agencies to rise to the occasion.

  • Okonkwo vows to keep touching lives at 65

Okonkwo vows to keep touching lives at 65

Thousands of less privileged Nigerians last Saturday besieged the international headquarters of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) for free screening and medical treatment.

Tagged Peace campaign, the initiative was to kick-off activities marking the 65th birthday of the resident pastor of the church, Bishop Peace Okonkwo.

It featured screening for sugar level, BP, prostrate & breast cancer, as well as blood level.

Over 50 medical personnel attended to the surging crowd at the premises of the church, many of whom started arriving as early as 6am.

Okonkwo said the free screening and medical outreach was the least she could do to thank God.

“God has been good to me. There is nothing else I can do for Him than to bless lives and put smiles on faces,” she stated.

She said the initiative has continued to enjoy corporate and individual support because it was touching lives.

Okonkwo vowed to stop at nothing to mitigate the sufferings of people.

“There is no looking back for me. It has been on for years and has come to stay.

“How can I stop when more and more people are suffering? How can I stop when things are getting tougher for people?

“No matter what happens, touching lives will always be part of me. It is the least I can do to thank God for bringing me from a lowly state to where I am today,” she stressed.

She said the gesture was not because she had more than enough, pointing out that she depends on God for every provision.

“It’s not because I have. I still have to depend on God for everything. But God can always use anything to change lives.

“I have made myself available to touch lives and God has been faithful to provide to cater for that. It’s His project, not mine.”

At 65, she said she would devote her life to serving God and humanity in every way possible.

“I am always available for Him. I am just saying, ‘Lord, here am I. Use me and send me wherever you want.’”

  • Pentecost Ministries hosts reawakening conference

There is an urgent need for a spiritual reawakening of socio-economic and political attitude of Nigerians, a cleric, Revivalist Benny Alabi has said.

Alabi, in a statement in Abuja, said most of the prevailing challenges facing Nigeria are traceable to the dearth of spiritual awakening among the citizenry.

According to him, the problem is not limited to the leaders alone or confined to a segment, section or sector of the nation.

It was in view of this, he said, that Pentecost Ministries International Trust is organising a conference in Abuja to involve the word of God and enlist His grace for divine intervention.

The conference is tagged “The National Proclamation and The Nations Pray Nigeria 2017”.

“Every true move of God reveals and restores the fear of God, integrity and purity in the Church, Godly leadership, a return to evangelism, a national spiritual awakening which will be happening in all nations,” Alabi explained.

The conference holds from June 29- July 2 at the National Centre for Women Development.

Ministering is Apostle Charles Samnenge from Swaziland, Reverend Professor Paul Emeka (Nigeria), Apostle Victor Uchegbulam (Nigeria), Apostle Gerald Glasper (United States), and Apostle Goodheart Ekewueme (Nigeria).

  • Cleric tasks religious leaders on love

The former Chaplain of Christ The Light Chapel Alausa Lagos, Rt. Rev Ali Buba-Lamido, has called on religious leaders to promote the virtues of love and avoid exploiting religious difference for personal gains.

He spoke at an outreach tagged Taking All Men Brother (TAMEB), which attracted Christian, Muslim and traditional clerics.

Buba-Lamido said: “We have to look at a way to solve our problems and not to escalate them. We all have to embrace ourselves in love and not to apportion blame on others.

“We are strong when we live together in love, patience and perseverance. We must constantly work at achieving peace among ourselves.”

He said that it is wicked and inhuman for religious leaders to fan the embers of war and division.

He pointed out that many religions preach peace and forgiveness, which should be embraced and promoted by their leaders.

Chairperson of TAMEB, Iyabo Ogundiran, said the body is all about bringing “tolerance, acceptability and love regardless of differences in practices and ways and is about turning our diversity into beauty and a uniting factor.”

She stressed that lack of proper understanding of religion makes followers vulnerable and turn into fanatics by greedy clerics.

  • Gateways to your escape! (2)

Last week, we began this teaching series by exploring the gateways that guarantee our escape from the wickedness, torture, torments and afflictions of the powers of darkness. As established last week, we live in a wicked world that is full of battles.  In most cases, these battles are invisible, and are mightier than our natural capacity, because they are forces from hell. Thus, there is no human capacity that can resist them. However, our victory is sure and lies in God Who has made available for us a way of escape from all forms of wickedness and afflictions of the powers of darkness. This week, we shall continue to explore vital gateways that guarantee our escape. They include:

Revelation: Although we may have been redeemed from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of God, it is important to understand that our inheritances in Christ are only deliverable by revelation. “Revelation” in this context implies the knowledge of the truth from scriptures. Just as we require revelation to access our inheritances in Christ, we also need revelation to secure our escape from the assaults of the wicked. That is why the Bible says: Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst (Isaiah 5:13; see also Hosea 4:6).

Be committed to serving God: Serving God guarantees our automatic escape. For instance, when God sent Moses to deliver the Israelites from the oppression of Pharaoh, He said to him: And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my son, even my firstborn: And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will slay thy son, even thy firstborn (Exodus 4:22-23; see also Exodus 23:25).

“Serving God” in this context implies serving God’s interest, adding value to His Kingdom, engaging in Kingdom advancement prayers, reaching out to the lost and bringing them to the faith. Thus, when we serve God selflessly in any or all these aspects, we commit His integrity to go all out in setting us free. Therefore, it is not just attending church services and taking notes, but also serving God with our time, energy and resources. In addition, it is important to know that when we are confronted by the forces of wickedness, we can remind God of our services in His Kingdom, just as Hezekiah did, to provoke His instant intervention (2 Kings 20:1-6; Isaiah 1:18; Luke 10:1-8,17-19).

Continue to dwell in the house of God: Attending church services and fellowship are not avenues to add to the attendance but for the renewal of our insurance of liberty in Christ Jesus. Remember the Bible says: Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him (Psalm 92:13-15; see also Psalm 84:7; 91:1-7; Obadiah 1:17; Hebrews 12:22-24).Therefore, don’t be a visitor in God’s house; instead, be planted there because God’s house is the city of refuge for the redeemed in the end-time.

Keep company with right people: To a large extent, the company we keep determines the outcome of our destinies. Most people are trapped today because of wrong company, while majority are blessed because of right ones; the choice is yours. The destiny of Amnon, an heir apparent to the throne, was crashed and crushed by his friendship with Jonadab. Jonadab schemed Amnon’s destiny to the grave and walked away to look for his next victim. Therefore, our safety has a lot to do with the company we keep (2 Samuel 13:3; Proverbs 13:20).

In 1979, I said: “It’s better to walk alone than walk with someone of unlike mind.” This became a guiding principle for my life. Remember, friendship is by choice and not by force. A friend, who has no place for God, will soon get you off your place with God. For instance, Having a lying friend means you are already on your way to becoming an expert liar. Having a drunkard for a friend means that you will soon go from alcohol to drug usage because the latter end of any man, who found the truth, but went to the devil, shall be worse than his beginning (Amos 3:3; Hebrews 6:4-7).

Over the years, I found myself in the company of people, who have helped to enhance God’s hand on my life in every sense of the word. I pray that you will not be in the company of people who will truncate your destiny in the name of Jesus!

In conclusion, it is important to know that every redeemed child of God is ordained for escape from every force of darkness. However, until we exercise our redemptive authority from the light of scriptures, we cannot dominate the powers of darkness. Therefore, let’s engage the truth of scriptures to silence the devil behind every affliction in our lives. Nevertheless, being born again is a sure way to victory over the powers of darkness. Are you born again? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord? If you haven’t, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: Miracle Meal, Miracle Meal, The Blood Triumph, Breaking The Curses Of Life, Overcoming the Forces of Wickedness and Satan Get Lost.
