  • CAC president to Niger Delta militants: embrace dialogue

Niger Delta militants have been urged to embrace dialogue with the federal government to prevent further bombing of oil facilities.

President of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Worldwide, Pastor Abraham Akinosun made this call in a chat with reporters shortly after the closing ceremony of the 2016 pastors’ conference in Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun state.

He urged Nigerians to support the current administration in its bid to revive the economy.

The cleric noted that the current hardship would soon come to an end, saying Nigeria has a brighter future.

He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to continue with his administration’s fight against corruption.

Akinosun called on the federal government to mop up arms in wrong hands and control the borders to prevent smuggling of firearms.

He also advised the President not to limit the anti-corruption battle to members of the opposition political parties alone but extend it to the ruling party.

The CAC President said the anti-corruption war should be pursued with vigour, urging the federal government to empower the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant agencies.

He stressed the need for the anti- graft agencies to be objective in their operations.

The cleric said: “It is only when corrupt members of the ruling party are bought to face the law that the anti graft agencies will show themselves as being objective.”

Akinosun charged the federal government to encourage investments in the agricultural sector as a way of diversifying economy and facilitating food security.

On the protracted crisis within the CAC, he said they were working through mutual contacts to persuade those on other side to come to the negotiation table to end the acrimony.

  • Follow in His steps (3)

“I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life”. Jesus said this after He set free an adulterous woman brought to Him by her accusers (the Scribes and the Pharisees) who believe she should be stoned to death for her sin as commanded by the Law of Moses. Jesus then showed the world the reason God sent Him; to deliver the world from the bondage and power of the prince and ruler of darkness- Satan, and to give a new life- a life born of the spirit of God as seen in the last edition. God didn’t send Jesus to condemn anyone but to save everyone so we can be at peace with God.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”

The woman must have been dreadfully afraid the day she was caught in the very act of adultery, knowing what her fate will be. Knowing the verdict on adultery, still couldn’t stop her from committing the crime; the knowledge of the law can’t save from sin, only Jesus can save. Jesus knew she was under the bondage of sin and needed most to be set free and become a child of God to be able to live a godly life. For this purpose God sent Him to die; to destroy the power of sin and the bondage of Satan, therefore setting free as many that receive and believe in Him. Jesus told her to go and sin no more, thereby setting her free from the bondage of sin, she received the grace to sin no more.

The earth from the beginning was in a state of bondage before God sent the LIGHT- for in the beginning before God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was formless and void, and covered in darkness, the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be Light” and there was light. Notice that God didn’t start by dealing with the earth’s state of formlessness and emptiness, He started dealing with its state of darkness, knowing that as long as there was darkness the earth would remain formless and empty. So what the earth needed most at creation was the LIGHT. The Light came and gave life to the earth, so the formlessness and emptiness were dealt with, then God created everything else, the heavens and the earth as it is today. God then divided the Light from the darkness, so darkness could not comprehend the Light.

Before anything else existed, there was Christ with God. He has always been alive and is himself God. He created everything there is—nothing exists that he didn’t make. Eternal life is in him, and this life gives light to all mankind. His life is the light that shines through the darkness—and the darkness can never extinguish it. The Light whom God sent from the beginning at creation is actually a person and this person is Jesus and anyone who has the Light has life and cannot walk in darkness. Rejecting Jesus is rejecting the Light that God sent to the world to give life and take away every formlessness and emptiness. A state of formlessness and emptiness can be said to be a state of nothingness, vainness, of no effect, no purpose and deadness.

The people that brought the adulterous woman to Jesus unknowing to them did her a lot of good because she met with the Light who delivered her instantly from the power of darkness/Satan and death, giving her life eternal. Do you have this life?

I once was under the control of the prince and ruler of darkness until Jesus the Light saved me, Satan wanted me to die in my sins and end up in hell but God’s mercy prevailed. So also Satan wants to hold everyone in his bondage but this is if you continue to allow him, call on the name Jesus and be saved. I still see some people still arguing and rejecting salvation, not believing in God’s plan to help them, yet struggling with the state of darkness.

In the case of physical gross darkness one can’t find his way; one’s steps will be chaotic, unguided, and disorderly, in fact such person is stagnated, just like the state of the earth before the coming of the Light. When light comes everything changes for
good, that person receives life and his steps will be ordered aright.
To get out of darkness is through the LIGHT-JESUS.

Receive, believe and follow the Light and you will never walk in darkness-NEVER!

May Nigeria be filled with the Light- Amen.

  • ‘Many prophesied I won’t live this long’

‘Many prophesied I won’t live this long’

Most Reverend Samuel Abidoye is the Spiritual Head of Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Worldwide. The 94-year-old cleric spoke with Sunday Oguntola on his lifetime and ministry. Excerpts:

When you were installed as Baba Aladura 10 years ago, did you have any reason to believe you will serve for this long?

I couldn’t have known because nobody knows tomorrow. In fact, there were several visions that said I won’t last on the throne for more than three, five years. So, nobody expected me to have stayed for this long.

In fact, that is why gingered me to do the 10th anniversary to thank God. I marked it to tell God that even though human beings did not expect me to go so far it has pleased him to bring me this far.

By nature, I don’t celebrate birthdays or anything. But when this 10th anniversary was coming, I had to do it because human ideas are different from God’s.

That is why I feel it is necessary to let people know that nobody is greater than God. God is greater than everyone and He is in full control of the whole world.

10 years after, how far has the church come?

We have moved forward in many ways. I have created other things that were not all there. Before I became the Baba Aladura, I initiated the English service as far back as 1989 when our youths were running around to new generation churches.

I told the elders, ‘if you can do this and liven our youth, we would have them till tomorrow’. We started the English service and called it youth chapel in 1989. And then God has been very good to me personally because He continues to empower me to move around.

You still walk around unaided at 94. How is this so?

I acknowledge it is God. There couldn’t have been anything else. In my family, our mother had four of us. Two died at almost 90. She lived to over 90years herself.

It is easy to say it is genetic but I insist it is God. As far as I am concerned, I rely on John 3: 27 which has been my motto for life. It says “nobody receives anything except it’s given by God.”

To be able to move around at 94, it’s beyond my thinking but I have course to say thank you God. Anytime I work and feel so tired, once I’m able to sleep, I feel better. And I can sleep anywhere, even while standing. I don’t fall sick at all. Once I’m able to sleep, it refreshes me.

    And you don’t use glasses?

I use glasses for reading. I don’t use glasses to walk around. I only use it for reading tiny things and I want to say thank you to God. Even at my age, I use computer more than you young ones.

    Really? You use the system?

    Oh yes.

    To do what?

To do anything, such as writing books. I type my own books. When I was in England, I wrote about six books.

Till tomorrow, I have e-mails and I write books.

    You surf the internet?

I have internet and the story of how I started using it is very instructive. I bought a house in London in 1963, which I was left with of one of the tenants whom I love when I returned to Nigeria.

Unfortunately, some squatters started occupying it. It was one of our Prophets, Senior Apostle S. Ayegbusi that told me except I take steps, I may lose one of my properties. So, with that I went back to London and I repaired the house with the help of government. So, I was staying with my son who goes to work. Whenever he comes back, he always found me at home. He would say, “daddy, find something to do. Don’t just sit down at home”.

By then, I was already a pensioner. One day he encouraged me to go to the library instead of doing nothing alone at home. On reaching there, I saw computer and started learning how to use it. I was going to evening classes in 1992. Since then up to this moment I have been involved in computers.

    So, you check your emails?

Yes, not only that in 1996 I started taking computer serious. I went to school studied it for one year. I learnt publishing and so I typed myself the books myself. That was how I started using computer and writing book as a pensioner.

How come you are able to recollect dates vividly?

I don’t know because I can still remember I started school in 1934. The first school in my town was in 1931. I became a student in 1934 and was sent away to secondary school at Ilorin during the First World War. We had to vacate our school for the soldiers. We were taken to Bida and I ended up my studies at Bida where IBB and Abdulsalam also attended.

I can remember all these things, not all of them but many of the things that happened.

How are you able to do recollect all these considering a lot of your colleagues are already senile?

Well, it’s beyond my thinking. I don’t know. If I say I know, I will be deceiving you.

Are there people you grew up with who are still alive?

In 1939, the principal of our school, a white man, took our pictures with a small camera and I still have the copy. Whenever l look at it, I don’t see anybody alive there.

God has answered most of your prayers. What else do you want God to do for you?

My wish is to see His face when I leave this world. I don’t want to be thrown away. I am praying that God will give me the grace to enter the kingdom of God. That is my biggest concern now.

If God asks how many more years you want to live, what would be your answer?

I will say ‘father, I want you to take me away when it is right because I don’t want to be in the world and people will be begging death for me.’ I want to leave the world able to do what I am doing just like that.

Where do you see C&S in the next 10 years?

In another 10 years, I want C&S to proudly have a university where our children can go to because presently, all our children are trained by other religion where they copy from them. If we have our own, we can bring our children up in our doctrines and I am certain by that time, we would have professors coming from C&S.

What do you eat these days?

I eat anything O. America food, Africa food. I eat anything they give to me.

How will you choose your successor?

We don’t choose a successor in C&S; it’s called move by move and seniority. But God has His plans of putting somebody on the throne because even by seniority I should have been number four. I don’t think much on who would be my successor.

    Why?

When I’m gone, I’m gone; the decision is in the hands of people alive. We don’t choose our successor; we allow God to determine because it’s God’s work and only Him can do it.

  • Prayers have kept Nigeria, says Lamai

A clergy man, Pastor Chris Lamai, has stated Nigeria would have been in a far worse socio-economic situation but for the intercessions of God’s children with fasting and prayers.

Expressing optimism that that the country would soon overcome its current challenges, Lamai said: “God has heard our prayers for salvation and our problems as a nation will soon be over.

“We just need to trust God with our problems and they will be solved.”

Speaking during a chat with journalists at the headquarters of his Love Assembly Church, Lekki in Lagos on the church’sforthcoming The world global conference, Lamai explained the main purpose of the church and Christianity is salvation of mankind.

According to him: “The church is for the salvation of man. When you’re saved from the sins of the world, prosperity flows from it naturally.”

He added: “With dedication, patriotism and ceaseless prayers by all Nigerians, we can put the problems of the nation behind us.”

  • How to make change work, by Martins

Strict enforcement of laws will bring about the much-needed change, the Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Lagos, Most Rev. Adewale Martins has stated.

This, he said, is what will make the change mantra of the current administration more than a jingle.

Much as he applauded the Change begins with you campaign recently launched by President Muhammadu Buhari, Martins said it should be complemented with law enforcement for Nigerians to truly change.

He last week at the ordination of three Priests at the St. Anne Cathedral Maryland, Lagos.

According to Martins, government must fight impunity throughout the country for the change message to sink in with Nigerians.

He said: “If the government is able to arrest impunity, I think change will begin to have stronger basis than just the jingle we hear on radio.”

The cleric called on the federal government to also reflate the economy by injecting recovered loots.

This, he stated, will help to stimulate the economy out of recession.

He also called on states to look inward for Internally Generated Revenues instead of running to Abuja every month for handouts.

Martins stated: “We hope some of the funds that have been recovered will be put to use to alleviate the state that the people are going through at this time.

“If put into the economy, it will help to stimulate it back again and out of recession, so that things can begin to happen again.”

He expressed delight with the ordination of the three priests, saying their coming to ministry will endanger change within the church.

The ordained, according to him, were coming with years of experiences in ministry work, a development he said will help the church in no small way.

“When new water flows into a tree, it helps to make the tree more wholesome. We expect that their coming will bring a change and that they would learn from the experience.”

Ministering during the ordination, Father John Paul Abele of St. PioOrile, described priesthood as a gift from God.

He called on the new ordained priests to be patient with people and listen more.

More importantly, he encouraged them to be faithful in the ministry, knowing they will render account to God one day.

He challenged them to take their prayer lives seriously because priesthood is a 24-hour assignment that can easily lead to burn-out.

One of the new ordained priests, Rev. VitalisEzeigwe, expressed delight at the new elevation.

He said: “The post demands more responsibility but I hope that the grace of God will begin to speak in us.”

  • Why church leaders must be trained, by WATS provost

Provost of West Africa Theological Seminary (WATS), Dr. William Udotong has restated the needs for adequate training and preparations for church leaders.

He said proper training for church leaders becomes imperative so that they can impart the society positively and cause a great spiritual awakening.

Udotong said this at the 26th convocation of the campus of the interdenominational seminary in Ipaja, Lagos.

116 students celebrated the convocation with lecturers, friends and well-wishers.

They received certificates in Diploma in Theology, B.A. Theology, Barchelor of Arts in Religion, Post Graduate Diploma in Theology, Master in Divinity, Master of Arts in Christian Education, Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies.

Others include Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, Master of Arts in Christian Leadership, and Graduating Doctor of Ministry Students.

Udotong said that the body of Christ is in dire need of well- trained and spirit- filled leaders who are able to think, live and preach the gospel.

He decried the menace of fake pastors who are turned churches to commercial centres as against building God’s people and preparing them for living on earth and eternity.

According to him: “When pastors are given the opportunity to be trained, we try our best to get them well engaged as a body of Christ.

“We make them understand that the church is not a place for merchandise and it is not a place where you have failed in the world and you think what you can do is to gather people together.

“We must focus on trainings, pastors who are true pastors must preach against it. Also, Christians in general needs to be well sensitised.”

  • How the Holy Spirit Empowers for Exploits!

Jesus Christ once read the scriptures saying: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. …And the fame of him went out into every place of the country round about (Luke 4:18-19, 37).

From scriptures, we recognise that the anointing of the Holy Spirit, among others, empowers the redeemed to command exploits. For instance, Jesus Christ was a carpenter’s son for 30 years, without an identity. However, when He returned in the power of the Holy Spirit, He was loaded with divinity and the Bible records that His fame went throughout all Judea and to all the regions roundabout. We also saw in scriptures how 120 fearful disciples, who hid in the Upper room after the death of Jesus, commanded exploits in Jerusalem and around the world after being empowered by the Holy Ghost (Luke 4:18-19, 37, 7:17; John 20:19-22; Acts 2:1-41).

Furthermore, it is important to know that at redemption, we possess greater potentials than all the Old Testaments saints such as Daniel, Abraham, Joseph, etc. Concerning the potentials of His disciples and every redeemed child of God, Jesus said: Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he (Matthew 11:11; see also Genesis 12:3; Galatians 3:29).

Jesus further said:  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father (John 14:12).

That means we are also ordained to manifest greater exploits than Jesus and we saw this in the scriptures when Peter’s shadow healed the sick but Jesus’ shadow didn’t. That is what redemption guarantees. However, it is important to note that though we are candidates for exploits at redemption, we cannot manifest exploits without the empowerment of the Holy Ghost.

    But, what is Exploits?

“Exploits” simply means an extraordinary, record-breaking and record-setting accomplishment. It is setting the pace, blazing the trail, achieving outstanding feats and bringing to bear unimaginable accomplishments on earth. In other words, exploits is accomplishing things that eyes have not seen, ears have not heard and what has not entered into the heart of any man (Matthew 5:13-14; 1 Corinthians 2:9).

How, then, does the Holy Spirit empower us for exploits?

First, it is important to know that the Holy Ghost is a multidimensional and multi-tasking Spirit because He manifests Himself through diverse operations. We saw His seven-dimensional ministry mentioned in Isaiah 11:2 and the Bible says: Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal (1 Corinthians 12:4-7; see also Ephesians 4:4-5).

The above scripture refers to the gifts of the Holy Ghost. That means, the phrases “same Lord” and “same God,” are referring to the Holy Ghost because He is the third Person of the God-head and these three are One. He is the same Holy Ghost operating in diverse dimensions (1 John 5:7-8).

We must also understand that without the Holy Spirit, our bodies are helpless and dead spiritually. This is because no matter what our flesh can handle; it is nothing compared with what the Holy Spirit can empower us to do. As it is written: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing… (Isaiah 45:1-3; see also Isaiah 61:1-7; John 6:63; James 2:26). In other words, until we become born again, we are limited to the operations of the flesh and the Holy Spirit cannot empower us for exploits. Are you born again? If you haven’t accepted Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: Anointing for Breakthrough, Understanding the Anointing, Anointing for Exploits and Release of Power. I will continue this teaching next week.I invite you to come and fellowship with us at the Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland, Ota, the covenant home of Winners. • Cleric blames families for recession

The current recession is basically down to lack of proper family finance skills, President of Living Home Foundation, Pastor Bisi Adewale, has declared.

Most families, he pointed out, are badly run financially putting the entire nation in economic meltdown.

Adewale neither the former administrator nor the current one should be blamed for the economic hardship.

Rather, he said, Nigerians should look at how family finances are being run.

Adewale, who spoke last weekend during the fourth edition of the Lagos Singles and Marriage conference, described Nigerians as rain spenders.

Many families, according to him, “don’t save for when will be in needs.”

This, he said, attributes for why many families complain of seemingly hard times.

Adewale said: “Recession is personal and we can overcome if we check the way we spend money.

“Expensive schools for children and high- rent houses are uncalled for at this point in the nation as this is not the time to impress anybody and suppress your pockets.

“Ministers of the gospel, who go about in expensive cars, in this recession period show that there is something wrong.

“They should not sell our national assets. Let them sell their planes and all those government assets.

“Government officials should cut their spending and couples should plan their finances.

“If all these can be done, we will see that Nigeria is not in any recession.

“Recession is personal and can be overcome if families check the way they spend money.”
