  • Christians must study Quran, says author

Pastor Nureni Aderemi has launched a book titled “The Islam Christians must know”.

Nureni pointed out that many Christians don’t know the fundamental beliefs of Islam.

This, he said, is why they cannot reach out to them.

”What Muslims want is to reach this God we are talking about. They are not against Christians.

“The content is based in the revelation of Quran, which everyone is expected to know to help shape their decisions.”

  • Worship brings healings, says cleric

Convener of the annual Worship festival, Hannah Oyebanjo, has assured that there would be undiluted worship at the event slated for Shell Hall of the Muson Centre Onikan, Lagos next Sunday.

Addressing reporters in Lagos, Oyebanjo explained that the festival, which started eight years ago, was conceived to reach the world with the gospel of Christ through worship.

“Every year is very unique with manifold witness of God’s presence and undeniable testimonies of God’s awesome power,” she stated.

She said every episode presents divine occasion to worship God with deliberate self-abandon and unpretentious adoration.

She added that the festival has proven to be a time of not just music and fun fare but a gathering of people longing for God.

“It is going to be an encounter beyond words, a place where people come together setting aside denomination, tribe, colour, gender to praise the one true living God with one voice and one sound.

“The Worship Festival is a concert that brings healing, blessings, deliverance, joy, love, and testimonies,” Oyebanjo added.

The concert will also witness the presentation of support items to widows.

  • Understanding the healing covenant! (2)

Last week, we began this two-part series with the understanding that Jesus introduced Himself as the Great Physician. This is because all through Jesus’ earthly ministry, He never referred any case brought to Him. We also discovered that the Balm in Gilead, which is also the Word of God, is the great prescription of this Great Physician. However, it is not enough to find the Word that addresses our situation; we must apply same in faith before we enjoy the benefits thereof. Furthermore, we learnt that every provision of scriptures, including healing, health and wholeness are delivered based on covenant. In addition, we define what a covenant is and explored the vital terms attached to the healing Covenant. This week, we would examine with more terms that helps us to partake of the healing Covenant, which include:

    • Live on the Word: We must place ourselves on regular quality Word medications. This is because God’s Word carries God’s nature which is absolutely immune to sicknesses and diseases. In other words, the more of God’s Word we imbibe, the more of His divine nature we possess and that in turn guarantees our healing, health and wholeness.

In addition, it is important to know that God’s Word is the only medication in the world that heals all forms of sicknesses and diseases with zero side effects (Proverbs 4:20-22; Matthew 4:4).

    • Think Right: In this context, I mean think healthy thoughts, because the Bible says that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Therefore, don’t let the words of your doctors corrupt your mentality; instead, let God’s Word frame your thoughts and your wholeness shall be established cheaply (Proverbs 23:7).

Also, we don’t need anyone to pray for us before we can be made whole; all we need to do is take our covenant position in God and our healing shall be delivered. For instance, according to science, the moon doesn’t have a light of its own; it simply positions itself at a particular angle to the sun and shines. The sun generates all the heat, while the moon simply reflects all the glory. In the same vein, Jesus is the Sun of righteousness and God’s living Word; when we align our thoughts with what the Word says, we also take delivery of our wholeness. Remember, there is no irreversible case with God; therefore, align with His great prescription (3 John 1:2).

    • Speak Right: The Bible says that death and life are in the power of our tongues. Therefore, we must be careful of what we say because our words are like seeds; what we say today determines what we experience tomorrow.

Furthermore, the Bible says: …out of the abundance of our heart, our mouth speaks (Mathew 12:34; see also Psalms 34:11-13).

That means when we don’t have the abundance of God’s Word in our hearts, we cannot speak life to the issues that confront us. Remember, God’s Word is the light that has the capacity to shatter any darkness in our lives, including sicknesses and diseases. We must, therefore, engage it for the establishment of our healing, health and wholeness (Mark 11:23; Proverbs 18:21; John 1:4-5).

    • Be committed to Kingdom advancement endeavours: Our commitment to Kingdom advancement endeavours, which include reaching out to the lost and praying to see souls saved, and established in God’s Kingdom, entitles us to a healthy and prosperous life (Exodus 23:25-26; Proverbs 13:17; John 15:2).
    • Be committed to fellowship: As believers, Zion is our place of fellowship and the city of refuge that protects us from satanic assaults. Remember the Bible says:

But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions (Obadiah 1:17; see also Hebrews 10:25).

    • Rejoice in the Lord always: Being joyful invokes the mystery of health and wholeness on our lives (Proverbs 17:22; Nehemiah 8:10).
    • Refuse to be offended in God: We must understand that God is not the source of our afflictions, the devil is. When we see God as the source of our predicament and not our Healer, and Deliverer, we give room for the devil to afflict us. For instance, Job was offended in God and as a result, he remained in his afflictions until he repented and sought God for his healing. Therefore, we must never be offended in God, lest we remain in our afflictions forever (Job 13:15; Luke 17:1; John 10:10).

In addition, it is important to know that the Holy Communion, which includes the Flesh and the Blood of Jesus, is another prescription of the Great Physician.  When we partake of this mystery, we share the same Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) with Jesus and as such, our healing, health and wholeness are guaranteed (Matthew 26:26; 1 Corinthians 11:23-30).

Let’s recognize that Christianity only becomes profitable by taking covenant responsibilities. Though the price for our total health has been fully paid, its delivery is our responsibility. Just as our signature is required to withdraw from our individual bank accounts, each one’s faith is needed to take delivery of God’s healthcare provision for him/her in redemption (Habakkuk 2:4; Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:11; Hebrews 10:38). Therefore, as you engage the terms of the healing covenant in faith, I see God perfecting all that concerns your well-being and those of your loved ones in Jesus’ name! Remain ever blessed!

Have you given your life to Christ? Are you born again? If you are not yet, you can do so as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the Living God. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” For further reading, please get my books: The Healing Balm, Keys To Divine health, Miracle Seed, All You Need To Have All Your Needs Met, Exploring The Riches Of Redemption, Understanding Your Covenant Rights and Possessing Your Possession.

    Eleventh Hour Miracle at GGC

Tagged eleventh hour miracle, the vigil takes places at 1, Olorunishola Street behind Alade Market, Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos.

  • ‘Many altars have been sold to politicians’

The Deputy President, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Rivers state chapter, Rev Dr Miniabi Dagogo- Jack has lamented that most preachers have sold their altars to politicians.

Dagogo-Jack said most church leaders have been compromised by politicians because of quest for materialism.

Reviewing the roles of the church in the last general elections, Dagogo-Jack, who is also the International Coordinator of Good Leadership Prayer Support Initiative, said:  “Well, I will not say that the church has failed Nigeria rather I would say that politics of the world has moved into the church. A lot of altars of God were sold to the politicians.”

He claimed he made efforts to reconcile former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi with former President Goodluck Jonathan but said the activities of some unnamed men of God stalled the move.

“When I was working with Amaechi, I moved other senior men of God in Rivers state to say the President is a Christian, Amaechi is a Christian. Why are they fighting each other and we keep quite?

“I told them that we should meet with Amaechi and then with the President Jonathan. We met with Amaechi who told us in confidence that he was ready for peace. He also told us the problems between him and President Jonathan.

“We assured him that we will meet with the President and later bring the two of them together with a view to settling this matter.

“A very senior minister of God assured us that he will use his influence to ensure that we meet with the President. But the doors were not opened at the Presidency for us to meet with him and that stalled that reconciliation move.

“I made efforts to ensure there was peace and if every minister of God had taken such a decision, this would not have arisen.

“A lot of ministers were giving wrong prophecies. Two brothers will be fighting and a Pastor will go and tell one that God says you will be victorious and another pastor will go and tell the other brother the same thing.

“Can God be an author of confusion? I think it is time for ministers of the gospel to know their mistakes and comeback to the altar of God.”

He urged President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a ethics and discipline committee to campaign against corruption across the country.

Dagogo-Jack said: “It seems that the fight against corruption is targeted at those in government alone.

“Corruption also means unethical practices and today, it is everywhere including the church. It is unethical for a policeman to say that he bought his uniform with his own money.”

Mighty outpouring at Assemblies of God camp meeting

  • ‘Nobody should destabilise Cross Rivers’

    ‘Nobody should destabilise Cross Rivers’

The President of Cross Rivers State Christian Leaders’ Forum, Bishop Josef Bassey, is furious with the brief suspension of public assemblies in school across the state. The founder of God’s Heritage Centre, Gloryland Calabar told Sunday Oguntola why such move must never be considered in the future

The Christian Community in Cross Rivers State reacted very strongly to the suspension of devotions in public and private schools. What was it so?

Well, it took all of us by surprise. That was the most unfortunate development in our state lately. One never imagined it would ever happen. The Permanent Secretary sent a memo to that effect and we were all aghast. But we are grateful it has been rescinded.

Did Christian leaders like you meet with government officials to ask why the directive was issued in the first place?

The moment it happened, we did. The chairman of CAN did. I did too in my capacity as Chairman of Cross Rivers Christian Elders Forum. All concerned Christian leaders in the state did because that was a suicidal development capable of setting the state on fire and destroying the future generations.

    How could that be?

You see you cannot talk about peace, progress and development anywhere in the world without taking the beliefs of people into consideration. Societies aren’t run by governments; they are run by the beliefs of people.

If we are taking about crimes and corruption, you cannot get effective results by laws and security agencies. Once characters have been formed, law enforcement agencies cannot change those characters. They only seek to punish offenders or try to provide machinery to deter people from breaking the laws.

So, corruption is not an art; it is a character. The only system that can cure corruption, entrench morality, love, peace and integrity is religion, which is the belief systems of the people. All the major religions of the world have fundamental tenets.

When you stop devotions, you are destroying the fibres of people’s beliefs. It is like literally taking away their hearts and just leaving them with bodies. You have actually killed them systematically.

But the government explained the move was to forestall terrorist attacks based on intelligence. Wasn’t that enough to take such a step?

Yes, they said so and I have been privileged to speak with the Commissioner of Police, who clarified they had some security reports to that effect. But that is still most unacceptable. That excuse doesn’t fly.

Cross Rivers State is the most peaceful and secured state. You see government didn’t achieve that for us. It is there because it is a Christian State. Cross Rivers is not a PDP or APC State. It is a Christian State. The peace and security we experience is traceable to the fact that people have been raised on a certain belief system to love others and eschew evils.

That was not achieved by government but the church. The credit has to be placed exactly where it should be. Morality took a flight because missionary schools were taken over by the military. The disaster we have today started then. Before then, Nigerians were honest and straightforward. But when government took over schools, they nailed the coffin on integrity, morality and character. That is what will happen again should the directive on suspension of assemblies stand.

It could have been about security but why haven’t public assemblies been stopped in the northeast despite terrorist attacks? Why not in the west where they had been reports terrorists were trying to strike? Why in Cross Rivers where there had been no trace of public disturbance, let alone terrorism?

I think it is the most erratic thing I ever heard. It is insanity in rampage. Even if it was about security, why should you suspend assemblies?

The reports allegedly said they attacks were targeted to take place during assemblies…

… Did they say that? Are we really sure? Okay, if you suspend assemblies can’t they attack the schools during classrooms? If it is about terrorists planning to strike, we know their patterns. If it were so, stakeholders should have been involved. They should have spoken to them about the intelligence.

Security is a collaborative effort worldwide; it cannot be the responsibility of security forces alone. Were the stakeholders involved? Were Police operatives posted to man the schools? Why target the assemblies first? I just can’t understand because we like to hide under security reports to do a lot in this country.

Are you saying there could be more to the suspension than meet the eyes?

I really wished they weren’t more to it. But these have thrown up a lot. I have been bombarded with so many questions that I hope weren’t so. Many are saying it couldn’t just have been that. So, if it is just not about that, what could it be about? I really wished I could tell what it is.

Why Cross Rivers? Why do you think the State could be a subject of interest to anybody?

I really don’t know. I wished I could tell. As a Christian leader, we take this seriously and personally. We consider it an attack on our faith. And anybody toying with that had better be ready to take out all the indigenes of Cross Rivers because we are one hundred percent Christians.

Cross Rivers is a Christian state. It is not a PDP or APC state. That must be understood and respected. The constitution guarantees our association to free worship and association.

But the suspension has been lifted. Are you appeased?

Yes, we are more than pleased. But the fact that it happened even for once was an affront and we take serious exemption to that.

How did you feel while the suspension lasted?

I was pained. I never imagined it could happen during our lifetime. I never knew it could happen in our state. We were scandalised; it threw up a lot of questions about the strength of our faith. People confronted me with many insinuations and I hope they are not.

People also read political motives to the directive. There are talks that the governor could be preparing to defect to the APC?

I want to say unequivocally that it can’t true. The governor is very reasonable and intelligent. I know him personally and believe he will never set the state on fire for whatever religious or political reasons. I don’t see the governor playing any religious politics with the issue.

I believe those toying with that idea should stop it. What we need is peace and not destabilisation. This issue has taught people lessons. You cannot think as a public official that you know everything and can determine for the people without consulting them.

The church has a system in place where we can reach the nooks and crannies of the state in less than 24 hours. If we were carried along, we would have offered our inputs and prevented the outcries that the directive attracted.

But is Cross Rivers under threat or vulnerable to terrorism?

In the world today, every place is vulnerable. If Pentagon could be vulnerable, you know that every place is vulnerable. But we must be at alert and not encourage anything that will give anyone reasons to sabotage the peace we enjoy in the state.
