  • Engaging the demand of diligence for outstanding success!

God’s plan into the fullness of His agenda for us comes in steps, which lead the way to success. Recognizing these steps and engaging them, make our journey to greatness ‘sweatless’. One of the various steps to success is diligence. You will never come across any genuine success story in life and scriptures without the individual’s commitment to diligence (Ecclesiastes 10:18; Proverbs 22:19).

    What is Diligence?

Diligence is investing the best of our time, energy and resources in the pursuit of a given task(Proverb 14:23). Diligence is hard work, and only hard workers ever become high-flyers. It is not just being busy, but being productively engaged and focused in a given task, that makes a star (1 Thessalonians  4:11;1Peter 4:15; Corinthians 9:16; Matthew 6:22; 1Kings 20:39-40; Proverbs 12:24, 6:6-9, 24:30-3, 20:4, 13:4).

Let’s examine some biblical examples of hard worker.

God: Interestingly, I looked at God’s work schedule at creation and discovered that He is an ever-working God. From the story of creation, we discovered that God’s work schedule is described as, the evening and the morning. This connotes that He worked for 12 hours. Therefore, if we have a working Father, then we can’t make much out of life without working (Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31).

    |            Jesus: He was an addicted worker, who was ever on duty because working was like eating to Him (John 4:34; John 5:17; John 9:4). Jesus was addicted to His mission and gave His all to fulfil it (Luke 12:50).

Abraham: He was a hard worker: When God told him, “I will make you great,” he worked his way up by engaging in cattle farming until he became the greatest cattle farmer of his time (Genesis 13:2, 24:1). Subsequently, the Bible admonishes us to pattern our work life after him (John 8:39; Isaiah 51:1-3).

Isaac: He was a tireless worker: The Bible records that he dug a well for irrigation, but the Philistines kept filling it. Notwithstanding, he continued digging until he wearied them. Thus, he invented irrigation farming and became the breadwinner of the nation (Genesis 26:12-14; Genesis 26:1-13). In addition, Paul said, “Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.” This implies that by redemption, we are ordained to be envied, just like Isaac, but only on the platform of hard work (Galatians 4: 28).

Jacob: He was a Creative Worker. When Laban played on Jacob’s destiny, his creativity brought him out, because he knew what to do to multiply his portion. Jacob’s creativity which came by hard work also brought success to the house of Laban (Genesis 30:27-37, 43).

Paul:He was a man of unusual revelation, endowed with the Spirit of faith and grace. Yet, he said, “But I labour more abundantly than them all, yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.” He laboured and emerged a star among the Apostles. As a result, he wrote two-thirds of the New Testament (1Corinthians 9:16; 1 Corinthians 15:10; Act 14:11; Act 19:14-15; 2 Peter 3:15).

What, then, are the Benefits of Diligence (Hard work)?

Hard work keeps us fit: It is important for us to understand that hard work does not kill; it only refines our lives and destinies, and keeps us mentally and physically fit. For instance, when a house is left unoccupied for a period of time, it drops in value and rodents occupy it. Similarly, when we stop working, several things creep into our lives to break us down (Ecclesiastes 10:18).

Diligence Engenders Excellence: There is nothing mystical about excellence; it is a product of man’s tireless commitment to improvement on the approach and strategies employed in getting a job done (Hebrews 5:13-14; Proverbs 22:29).

Diligence delivers us from the awful vices of life:If you are not a worker, you will end up a robber. This is because being idle invites evil forces into one’s life (Ephesians 4:28; Luke 19:13; Proverb 14:23).

Friend, there are thousands of people, who are tied to your exploits; thus, you can’t afford to be careless. If you miss the top, you would disappoint God, because He paid the price of redemption for you to get there. Thus, are you born again? You can be born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. You can be saved right now as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” I will continue this teaching next week.

Every exploit in life is a product of knowledge.

  • ‘You can’t be a good Christian and not help others’

‘You can’t be a good Christian and not help others’

The founder and senior pastor of Grace to Grace International Ministries, Dagenham, UK, Pastor (Mrs.) Atinuke Adesanya, spoke with Sunday Oguntola on an humanitarian project of the church in Nigeria. Excerpts:

Last year, the church launched the Grace and Mercy Project (GAMP) in Nigeria, what will be different this year?

We could not have done it without His enablement and our members back in the United Kingdom who were very supportive of this vision.

During GAMP 2014, we promised that it would be a yearly event and here we are again to do one of the things we do best – supporting our community.

GAMP2015 will run from 20th – 26th June 2015. As well as giving out free items throughout the week to members of the community that want and need them, we have quite a number of activities planned and packed for the day including live music by well-known musical artists, comedians, free food and many others.

The part that fills my heart with great joy is the fact that some of the students that we were able to train (for free) through our School of fashion set up immediately after GAMP2014 will be graduating on the day.

What is really the motivation behind all these humanitarian gestures?

During the launching of GAMP last year, I shared in detail how over the years we have been actively supporting our local community and beyond in various aspects of life.

We have been known to assist the less privileged in the community. We provide support by giving out free food to the hungry via our Food Bank and we go into the community with medical professionals to conduct medical check-ups and many more other activities.

Through being actively involved in our community, we have also gained knowledge and a wealth of experience in helping people to discover their potentials and make a living by embracing the most fundamental education.

We have been blessed to have as our members, various professionals who are able and willing to give their time and share their skills and knowledge to provide assistant with our various outreach programmes.

What we are doing here in Ikorodu, Nigeria is a tangible extension of the work that we do in the United Kingdom. If we can help our community in the UK, it is only natural to want to do the same and by His grace more in our homeland, Nigeria.

We hope to do much more here as the Lord will continue to help us to show His kind of love to all.

What testimonies do some of the donors have to share?

GGIC is a very peculiar body of Christ as we are givers and it is therefore not a surprise that most of our donors are members of our Church. Giving selflessly is a key component to many spiritual and religious beliefs and knowing that one has taken action in line with your spiritual beliefs by offering your resources to others in need can bring a sense of inner peace and contentment.

Many of our donors have commented that they gave towards GAMP out of spiritual and moral conviction. Having shared the vision with them, I believe they felt inner pull to become involved with the project by donating financially, materially, their time and skills as well.

Last year, we had people who are not medical professionals but they contributed in helping us provide health check-ups to people in Isawu by donating money to buy medical equipment.

Likewise, a number of our members would have loved to come last year but were not be able to take time off work but some of them helped by supporting someone else who is able to do so and in so doing, they were directly helping the people in Isawu.

Our members that travelled with me last year for GAMP2014 also testify about having the opportunity to build on their social knowledge and circles whilst reaping the physical, mental and spiritual benefits from the labour of love they contributed towards the success of GAMP2014.

We’ve had people testified of feeling better about themselves after helping to support the project, because they know very well that they have done something that may save lives or help others who are less fortunate.

You don’t have to be a millionaire to realise that helping others gives you a good feeling, whether you do it by donating your time or by donating money.

It’s hard to believe that all these gestures are not related to the establishment of a church in Nigeria. Is that true?

The main reason we have been able to do what we do in supporting our community as a Christian organisation is because of the love Christ within us as a body. Naturally, human beings often find it almost difficult or have no flare to want to help others, especially strangers and without the intention of getting something back in return.

Of course, there are individuals that have the gift of giving and are always looking to help even strangers in need. However, the love of Christ makes it an impulsive thing for us to do.

Our Church is already established here in Ikorodu and like I mentioned earlier, one of the things our ministry is well known for is supporting our community.  We believe that as individuals, we all have something within us to give and impact our community, likewise as an organisation we cannot just exist in a community and not impact lives.

The Grace and Mercy Project (GAMP) is a platform to ensure we are able to achieve our set objectives of positively impacting the lives of people within our community.

What shape will GAMP 2015 take?

The first day would be a variety day; mainly to celebrate great achievements since the launching of GAMP till date.

For example, some of the students we trained in our School of Fashion will be graduating and awarded for their commitment to turn their lives around and have a voice in the community. We aim to have live entertainments throughout the day with musician, comedians and other very important dignitaries in attendance. The remaining days of the week, we will be giving away some free items and carrying out free health checks. We have come again with a team of medical professionals from the United Kingdom to deliver this personalised care.

How many students are graduating and what are some of the incentives you are offering them?

One of the primary aims of this initiative was that by implementing a positive educational initiative of this sort, we would be helping a group of people who, in the nearest future, can significantly contribute (in their own way) to the Nigerian economy through this local government and create a better future financial security for themselves, family and the masses by expansion.

When we set up the Grace School of Fashion, we had quite a number of people that enrolled to join. It was very clear for us then that the need to empower individuals to build and create the lifestyle they desire was there. Of course, some of the people dropped out for one reason or the other and quite few stayed on.

However, as we all have our individual style and pace of learning, we can confirm that up to five students will be graduating this year.

We are not planning to offer them incentives; the free training was the incentive we gave them to make a change in the lives. Nonetheless, each of the graduating students will be awarded some tools for their trades and some monetary gifts mainly for their commitment to learn and change their circumstances and to assist them in establishing their own enterprises.

If we have more of these gestures, what do you imagine will happen in the society?

It is a human nature to just go about their daily lives and simply pretend that everyone is living well and that problems don’t exist or convince ourselves that these are small, inconsequential problems that affect just a few.

The truth of the matter is that if destitutions are left unchecked, they are the kinds of issues that can dramatically affect the quality of life of not just individuals but the community at large. Sooner or later, it will become very difficult to sustain a community when too many people are living at the margins.

This is what the Grace and Mercy Project (GAMP) is all about; working at the edge of society, finding the places where the community is frayed and in our own capacity, repairing them to make the community as a whole stronger.

We all have an important role to play in helping to move people from the margins into the mainstream.  If we have more of these gestures coming from individuals, government officials, organisations or even co-operate bodies’ our society will experience a massive explosion in the quality of life of our people.

Our people need to realise that as they step out and help people to elevate hardship, they are in fact expanding the impact of their own work.

By improving the quality of life for others, we are ensuring individuals are spiritually and physically equipped to enable them become better Nigerian citizens.

  • Adeboye charges parents on proper upbringing

Adeboye charges parents on proper upbringing

The general overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church OF God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised parents to avoid amassing ill gotten wealth for their children but teach them the values of hard work, honesty, and integrity.

He gave the advice at the special monthly prayer and thanksgiving service by the church at its national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Adeboye said parents must not encourage mediocrity among their children or ward but motivate and empower them to work.

He lamented the desire among youths to make wealth without hard work, attributing the mass unemployment among the young population to this menace.

According to him: “There are boundless opportunities and possibilities for young people willing to work and burn the midnight candles instead of cutting corners.”

Adeboye, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Personnel and Administration, Pastor Johnson Odesola, said there was no free launch even in Freetown.

He said whatever anyone was enjoying was the handiworks of those who have sweated things out for us to enjoy it today.

He noted that many well known businessmen, who have died in the last 20 years but failed to give a good legacy of hard work, honesty and forthrightness for their children have had their business edifices, empires and monumental achievements crumpled.

Although, the respected preacher asserted there were lots of distraction and discretion among modern youths, he urged parents to take out time to understudy the psyche and philosophical build up of their children so they could help them better.

He said: “Parents should take time to create or invest more time in bringing up their children in the manner they will be proud of.

“If you accumulate wealth for your children, they will squander it.”

He cautioned parents who spent all their lives amassing ill gotten wealth for their children, saying it was not necessary.

Adeboye stressed: “What you don’t work for, you don’t value it. What we can do is take care of ourselves and enjoy the little we have and give our children good moral and education.

“Every individual has what they need to make their lives comfortable. We will be destroying the lives f our children when we accumulate all gotten wealth for them.”

  • Engaging the demand of discipline for success! (2)

Last week, I began this series by showing you the importance of discipline in the school of success. This week, I will continue that teaching on the platform of discipline.

Discipline is essentially about living a guarded lifestyle. It is being a law to oneself in a bid to accomplish set goals. The following are aspects we must be disciplined in, in other to experience Success in our lives:

Breakthrough Thoughts:Exploits is our birthright in redemption, but our thoughts determines whether we possess it or not. This is becauseonly those who think success succeed and only breakthrough thinkers command breakthroughs (Proverbs 23:7). Thus, it is important for us to discipline our thoughts to align with divine agenda or we miss out of God’s success plan for our lives (1 Peter 1:13; Philippians 4:8; Numbers 13:32-33).

Breakthrough Words: It is our words that create the events of our lives and breakthrough words are required to command breakthroughs, because life and death are in the power of the tongue. We must understand that our words are as creative as God’s Word, because we are created in His image and likeness (Proverbs 18:21; Genesis 1:26). Coincidentally, our words stem out of our thoughts, for out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Therefore, we need disciplined thought and tongues (Matthew 12:34; Mark 11:23).

But, for our tongue to be disciplined, we must let the Word of God dwell richly in us. When our lives are filled with the Word, we think, speak and act scriptures, thereby creating the future we desire (Colossians 3:16; Joshua 1:8; 1 Samuel 17:45-46; 50, Job 22:29).

Breakthrough actions: It is one thing to think right, another to talk right and yet another thing to act right. Our actions must align with our thoughts and words; otherwise, our thoughts and words would be of no effect (1 Samuel 2:3).

For instance, David spoke strongly and spontaneously when he confronted Goliath. His action went along with his thoughts and words, thus defeating Goliath (1 Samuel 17:43-51; Genesis 12:1-4, 22:1-3; Hebrews 11:7).

It is important for us to recognize that these three areas of discipline are very vital in determining our success in life. This is because, we cannot think like grasshoppers and emerge as lions. Moreover, our thoughts can stop God, our words can limit Him and our actions can put Him off from intervening in the affairs of our lives. Therefore, we must discipline our thoughts, words and actions to align with the truth, which is the Word of God (Philemon 1:14).

Discipline is obviously a fundamental requirement for exploits and the following scriptural examples validate this claim:

Joseph: He was a highly disciplined man and he demonstrated this when he refused to yield to the demands of his master’s wife. He said, “How can I do this wicked thing and sin against God?” As a result, he became the breadwinner of nations and the core preserver of Israel (Genesis 39:9, 21/41:15-16, 38-44).

Daniel: He purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the king’s rich food. As a result, he commanded dominion in Babylon, the land of his captivity (Daniel 1:8, 17, 20/5:11/6:1-10, 11-30).

Nehemiah: He refused to partake of the governor’s bread. He led a revolutionary army and was an exemplary leader. He was a man sold- out to his task and the well-being of the people. As a result, he was promoted from a cupbearer to the governor of the nation. We must, therefore, note that our dignity is a function of our discipline (Nehemiah 1:1-10, 4:15-16, 23).

Paul the Apostle: He determined to subscribe to what was profitable (1 Corinthians 6:12; 1 Corinthians 10:23). No wonder, it was said of him, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men.” Even the demons affirmed, “Jesus, I know; Paul, I know!” He also wrote two-thirds of the New Testament. Therefore, discipline enhances our productivity and it is the highway to distinction in the pursuit of any task (Acts 14:11, 19:14-15; 1Corinthians 9:24-26).

Friend, are you Born Again? You can become born again by confessing your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. You can be saved right now as you say this prayer:”Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious blood. • Put your faith in God, Atilade charges

Put your faith in God, Atilade charges

God is still in the business of answering prayers and rescues His people from known and unknown dangers, chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South West region, Archbishop Magnus Atilade, has stated.

“The God of Daniel is still alive today. He delivers us and listens to our cries every day. He is a miracle worker and will never leave us stranded,” he stressed.

He urged Christians to put their faith in God and remain convinced that He will always fight their battles.

Atilade spoke during a thanksgiving service for the miraculous deliverance of the national vice president of the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Chief Debo Omotoso, at the Chapel of Great Commission, Awe in Oyo State.

Omotoso, who is also the chairman, Bond Group of Companies was abducted in his residence in Awe in March by gunmen who disguised to be workers of a dry-cleaning firm.

He was later rescued by men of the Oyo Police Command in Ajia community in Egbeda area of Ibadan a week after his abduction.

Atilade, who gave the charge at the service, attributed the rescue of the Ashiwaju of Afijio land to the miraculous hands of God.

He said the entire Gospel Baptist Conference of Nigeria and Overseas fasted and prayed throughout the ordeal of Omotosho, who is a trustee of the church.

“God honoured our prayers and bought him back safely to us, showing he is with us and the same who rescued Daniel and the three Hebrews from the furnace of fire,” he explained.

Any other Christian, who dares to trust in God, Atilade assured will enjoy similar divine protection.

Omotosho, who was beaming with smiles, appreciate the church for staying in the gap for him during the abduction.

He said the incident has reinforced his faith in God and will bring him closer to his maker.

  • ‘Prayer and fasting without obedience won’t work’

‘Prayer and fasting without obedience won’t work’

The President of the Way of Reconciliation Evangelistic Ministries (TWOREM) International Lagos, Nigeria, Prophet Oladipupo Funmilade-Joel, has declared that fasting and prayer without obedience to God will not get Christians anywhere.

He spoke at the church’s interdenominational quarterly programme tagged: “Bojuwomi’.

Funmilade-Joel explained it was very important to obey God at all times and also respect the laws of the land.

He stressed that without obedience to God, fasting and prayer would be an exercise in futility.

The cleric maintained that prayer and fasting will never deliver to Christians what obedience cannot deliver.

He challenged Christians to do away with disobedience, avoid partial obedience and always depend on God for favour and grace.

On the state of the nation, Baba Sekunderin, as he is popularly called, charged the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to be courageous enough to take decisive steps in rendering great service to his fatherland.

He charged him to win the battle for interrupted power supply, encourage private sector and foreign stakeholders to participate in vital sectors.

According to him:”It is not a change in government that can lift Nigeria up but a change of attitude by everybody.”

  • Engaging the demand of discipline for success! (1)

God’s plan and purpose for the redeemed is to enjoy unending success. But, we must understand that God’s success plan is not a promise, but a covenant. This implies that until our part is adequately played, God is not committed to deliver (Psalm 89:34; see also Proverbs 4:18; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Luke 5:1-8; John 21:5-6).(Ecclesiastes 10:5-8, 16-17). Therefore, we must be conscious of our role in the covenant of success. For instance, we understand from scriptures that when we diligently hearken to biblical instructions and observe to do all that God commands, supernatural breakthrough is usually the outcome. But when the covenant is broken, breakthrough becomes impossible (Deuteronomy 28:1-2; Ecclesiastes 10:5-18). Moreover, there are certain demands that qualify us for our birthright of success and one of such is the demand of DISCIPLINE.

    BUT, WHAT IS DISCIPLINE?

Discipline is possessing a sense of mission in the pursuit of any task: It is a strong dedication to a well-defined goal. Apostle Paul said, “Woe is me if I preach not the gospel”(1 Corinthians 9:16).

It is operating as demanded, not as convenient: It is our task that determines the kind of approach we put into it. For instance, Nehemiah and the people never took off their clothes except for washing. They were on duty as demanded by that task. Also, Daniel and his companions purposed in their hearts not to defile themselves with the king’s rich food. Therefore, we cannot make the most of any task that does not make specific demand on our lives (Nehemiah 4:23; Daniel 1:8).

It is setting order to one’s life pursuit: This means being where we should be at the right time and doing the right thing. For instance, at the time when kings go to battle, David tarried in Jerusalem and he met his waterloo in Bathsheba. He paid dearly for it, but mercy prevailed for him (2 Samuel 11:1-2). We must recognize that it takes high-level discipline to maximize our adventure on the earth. Moreover, we don’t know how much we are loaded with, until we set order into our lives.

It is also making the most of one’s time:Time is the most precious asset to every disciplined man and whatever robs us of our time has robbed us of our best in life (Ephesians 5:16). We must, therefore, budget our time the same way we make budget for our money. This is because, just as money is squandered when it is not budgeted, when our time is not budgeted, it’s bound to be squandered.

Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of America –a believer, once said, “Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.”It is important for us to also understand that time is not just in years, but in months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds. Therefore, we must constantly put value into our time by investing it.

Interestingly, time is an asset of equality and every living being has an equal share. However, what each one does with his time determines the outcome of his life. In addition, self-discipline is being a law to oneself in a bid to accomplish a desired goal. For instance, Nehemiah lived an exemplary life to move the people towards the restoration of their dignity and in 52 days, they completed the building of the wall (Nehemiah 5:14-16; Genesis 39:9; Philippians 2:5-9).

We must recognize that discipline is not a gift, but a lifestyle of choice we design and submit to (Genesis 39:9, 41:15-44; Daniel 1:8, 17-20, 6:10-28; 1Corinthians 6:12, 10:23).

Friend, exploits is the birthright of the every believer. That means you can begin to manifest exploits when you confess your sins and accepting Jesus as your Lord and Saviour. You can become a believer right now as you say this prayer: “Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!” I will continue this teaching next week.
