How to Apply to a Foreign University: What Nigerian Applicants Should Know

Studying abroad starts with being inspired, motivated, doing research, and taking additional practical steps to make your dream a reality. Many students from Nigeria inquire about how to apply to a foreign university and get admitted to pursue their desired courses.

University application process differs between countries, but you can follow general rules and procedures to succeed. When applying for a course, consider the country and the schools that offer the course you are interested in before planning to travel.

    Choose a program

Ask yourself if you have the basic requirements to pursue an academic program based on your career aspirations. Decide on the area of specialization and align the program with your goals. Choosing a highly ranked university with a good reputation may help you to secure internships or jobs easily because employers trust credible institutions.

Do enough research and compare the programs because this may make a difference regarding your experience abroad. Invest your resources to conduct due diligence and weigh all the available options. It would not make any sense to make an academic trip that is not worth your effort and time.

An experience that boosts knowledge enhances your worldview and “spices” up your academic grades deserves a well-thought-out decision. Read online reviews from other students to see whether scholarships are available and try to understand all other aspects of the program you are interested in.

    Try professional writing service

Choose the country to study from

Deciding on the country to pursue your course can facilitate the planning process.

There are so many countries and universities that could be offering a course that you want to pursue. Consider applying to institutions in various places simultaneously as a way of increasing chances of admission and maximizing the available resources.

It is easier to apply to UK universities with the help of UCAS that oversees the entire application process. The process is done centrally, so it is shorter compared to the US application process. In the US, you need to apply to individual universities directly through the admission departments.

One of the most important factors to consider when choosing a country to attend college is the weather. You don’t want to go to a country with very harsh weather conditions because this may affect the quality of life.

The local language of a region is also important because it may affect your ability to cope and socialize with others. Every European country has a peculiar local language, although the common languages are French, German, and English. When deciding which country to school, consider the language gap.

    Ask for online help

After applying for college admission successfully, the other bigger task will be writing quality essays and assignments. If you are not confident about your writing ability, the pro essay helper from EduBirdie will offer the ultimate solution. With essay writing online help, you don’t have to worry about the quality and timeliness of work submission. The writing professionals will make your life easier as you study abroad and will guarantee good grades. They have assisted many American students hailing from Nigeria to write excellent essays.

Decide the universities to apply to

Now that you have chosen a county to attend college, decide on the universities to apply to. It may be difficult to apply to all institutions in a given region due to money and time limitations. Stick to a few schools and do your best while focusing on the application requirements.

Most UK universities will ask you to write an admission essay as part of the university application process. If you don’t know how to write a compelling essay for university admission, consider a professional writing service.

Prepare for the IELTS or TOEFL test

Since not all Nigerians speak English, you may need to take an English language test before admission. Planning and booking the test may take a significant portion of your time, so take preparation seriously.

Your English proficiency and use of the language will determine the extent of the study and test preparation. Book the test a few days in advance to allow yourself time to retake the test if necessary.

Most institutions abroad use the IELTS or TOEFL tests to evaluate student’s ability to undergo a study program in English. Your English proficiency may also have an impact on your ability to write assignments and essays.

Schedule a visa appointment and plan your budget

Eligibility to a student visa depends on whether your institution or program is accredited by the government of the host country. The visa application process may be complicated and time-consuming, depending on the country.

The USA and UK visa officials recommend that you apply for the visa three months before your departure. You can be charged extra to get a visa to the UK within 3-5 days or even one day for super-priority.

Instead of spending extra Nairas, it will be better to apply for the visa immediately after receiving an admission letter. The documents for visa application take include an application form, a bank statement, tuition fee, the application payment receipt, and medical information.

    Conclusion

Applying to study abroad is a little tedious in Nigeria but is worth the time and the effort. Studying in the UN or UK as a Nigerian national requires following the above steps to the latter. With aspirations, the required qualifications, and the resources, you can seek admission to a preferred university and realize your dreams. Taking time to prepare can guarantee a smooth application process and avoid frustrations.

“I was really upset with the way I was treated but the moment he said he wasn’t going to apologise to me all my anger melted down. It became obvious that this guy naturally had very bad behavior.
