  • BBNaija: Who goes home tomorrow?

This week, on the Big Brother Naija show, eight housemates, including Miracle, Tobi, Teddy A, Lolu, Cee-C, BamBam, Anto and Alex are up for possible eviction.

For the first time since the show started, the housemates are competing as individuals, and only Nina, as lucky Head of House and Rico, who had the least nomination by fellow housemates are free from eviction fever this weekend.

As the Head of House, Nina was asked to pick one out of four cards, which will determine if she’s immune from possible eviction or has the power to save and replace a nominated housemate. She picked immunity, so doesn’t have the power to save any housemate.

On how the nominations went last Monday, Teddy A nominated Tobi and Miracle; Rico nominated Cee-C and Miracle; Cee-C nominated Anto and Alex; Nina nominated Bambam and Lolu; Miracle nominated Cee-C and Lolu; Alex nominates Bambam and Cee-C; Tobi nominated Teddy A and Bambam; Bambam nominated Tobi and Anto; Lolu nominated Rico and Bambam while Anto nominated Teddy A and Alex.

If comments by fans of the show are anything to go by, those likely to be affected by lowest votes would be Anto and Bambam.

  • How Shan George’s mum’s illness inspired her latest movie

Nollywood actress and producer Shan George, has said her mother’s illness inspired her latest movie, ‘Grey Shadows.’

According to Shan, the movie which was recently premiered focused on how sick people are treated in the country.

“Actually, to put it in a very simple sense, it’s about the negligence of medical practitioners towards sick people generally,” said Shan in an interview with The Nation.

“People that are working now in the medical sector really don’t seem to bother much about sick people because I’m imagining if you were passionate about an ill person and they bring a sick person to you, you won’t first be asking for money physically.”

The actress also revealed that her mum’s illness motivated her to produce the movie which she said is expected to be public by April.

“My mum was sick for six years. So, since 2011 till towards the end of 2017, my mum had been bedridden. I saw a lot while I was in the hospital trying to take care of my mum. We actually went from one hospital to another to another to another. She spent time in a lot of different hospitals. And a lot of different reasons led to her being in different hospitals in those seven years which she ended up at the Calabar Teaching Hospital finally. And I had to also move to Calabar based on the fact that my mum was moved to Calabar by her doctor in Abuja. They moved us to Calabar so, they we practically moved there. I mean, being that we’re also from Cross River State, it was a bit easier. I got a lot of experiences from there. Also, other peoples’ own. And put them into make a movie.  You know how e bi na.”

  • MAYOWA OLUYEBA: Amaka Igwe triggered my dream as filmmaker

Battleground’ producer, Mayowa Oluyeba has described Africa as the dream of every filmmaker, saying the continent is filled with compelling stories and great storytellers.

“Every filmmaker is directly responsible for creating the viewer’s experience, and to achieve that, you need to be a great storyteller. We are a people with so much that can be explored; history, diversity, interesting cultures, and great talents. That is a Film Maker’s dream,” he said.

Looking back, the filmmaker recalls how he was walking down the popular Toyin Street in Ikeja, Lagos, one afternoon, when a woman parked her car beside him, and asked if he was an actor or would like to be an actor, after which she gave him her contact details, and invited him for an audition.

He went for the audition and though he didn’t get the role, the experience triggered his interest. The woman he met was the late Film & TV Producer, Amaka Igwe – who was in the car with actress and producer, Ego Boyo.

The experience triggered Oluyeba’s interest and he spoke about it to a friend who worked at Solar Productions which was the top production company in Nigeria back then. He says that his run with Solar Productions opened up his eyes to TV and Film Production.

He was to later partner with his friend Remi Kehinde to start Mega Visions.

“We worked all hours to hone our skills, and promote our services, and our tenacity eventually paid off and we started producing Special Effects for home videos, the first of which was the movie ‘Haunted’,” he recalls.

So far, his sojourn has seen him working for Reuters News Agency, Bi-Communications, producers of Nigerian Police sponsored series, ‘Crime Fighters, Eastend Audiovisuals, and a host of others.

  • Biggie, Heaven and Earth of BBNaija

One of the myths of the Big Brother show is the voice of the chief voyeur and instructor called Biggie. He is to be heard, imagined, but not seen; neither by the housemates nor the fans of the show.

The curious case of this stern and sometimes genial personality, one could say, is similar to that of Nigeria’s mask styled Afrocentric singer, Bisade Ologunde, aka Lagbaja, who separates his career personality from his person.

But just as some people have bumped into the singer without his mask, many would have bumped into Biggie without knowing he is the one.

Such is a celebrity status that celebrates the inner person and painfully so, a stardom that is concealed by contract.

Those who think they know Big Brother may be wrong, because the organisers go the miles to conceal his identity. The only set of people who know Biggie so well are the housemates who, although have not seen him physically, but have come to build a mental image of him, and going by their daily interaction, have enjoyed some feel of intimacy.

Indeed, Big Brother is all you need to know of him. He is a voice not a person in a way. That is why he’d always reply any housemate who care to know how he’s faring, saying: ‘Big Brother is fine, Big Brother is always fine.’

Those who follow the show closely would tell you that each time you think you have Biggie figured out; he takes an entirely different direction.

At some point, last year, the task by Biggie was centered on art, and housemates were asked to allow their imagination flow, as they drew what they imagined an invisible force like Big Brother, who is everywhere and sees everything, would look like if he was human. The outcome was very interesting.

Efe came up with an interesting picture that depicted Biggie as a faceless, yet ubiquitous person who sees everything. Debie Rise depicted Biggie as a father figure who is warm and stern at the same time, while TTT drew Biggie as a faceless yet omnipresent person. Uriels’ imagination had to do with a man who wore glasses and was part of the beard gang, while TBoss depicted him as a Cyclops with one eye that could see everything. She even gave him a funny hairdo. As for Marvis, she just scrawled the word ‘Big Brother’ and perched a crown at the end of the word Big, while Kemen’s picture was a bit confusing. The only visible thing on it is the Big Brother logo.

While listening to their reasons for picturing him the way they did, Big Brother commended housemates and told them that the Big Brother house was also a forum for continuous and constant learning as well as an avenue for showcasing their creativity.

Indeed, the housemates were all correct; Biggie was everything they ever painted, even more than they ever imagined.

Fast forward to this year’s show which is currently airing, colleagues were quick to remind Alex that she would see Leo again, after the former appeared to be crying her heart out. “No one has died,” one of them told Alex. With this, I imagine why colleagues cry when their close pals are evicted in a show where none of them would remain forever. And I thought of the outside world as ‘heaven’ while the Big Brother House is the earth.

Imagine that 20 housemates were the creations that occupied the earth in this show when it started on January 28, 2018. Now, they must ‘die’ one after another in what is called eviction. They cry freely for their close pals, but are consoled that they will meet outside the show to part no more. Imagine how Leo was looking when he joined Ebuka on stage after his eviction. Looking at Alex from the screen as she cried uncontrollably, he said she is the reason he was feeling sober; in essence, not for losing the prize money. Imagine how our departed ones look down at us, unable to come back, unable to touch or talk back to us… And just as we talk about the judgment day, the society, the fans, already have their ways of judging these housemates, and some will be stunned by other realities when they come out. The prize money is the earthly reward, how the society receives each housemate, and the fortune they make as a result of their three-month sojourn is the real reward of the ‘judgement day’.

  • #Why Uche’s hubby Solomon Mac-Auley is every woman’s dream

    #Why Uche’s hubby Solomon Mac-Auley is every woman’s dream

When actress Uche got married to her husband, Solomon Mac-Auley some 12 years ago, it was like keeping hope alive. But not is that hope still living, it is today, to the amiable actress, a testament of faith.

In a touching Facebook message to her husband on his birthday last Monday, the actress noted that only a man who loves God can love the way he loves her.

She said: “@macauley.solomon: In the beginning, you said to me, “Just let me love you.” Have I done that 100%? No. But you, being you, keep acting like you just fell in love with me & have shown me in every way possible that I’m the one who holds that special spot in your heart and nothing I do can change it. You once told me that no man can love me the way you do. I remember having a really good laugh. But here and now, twelve years down the line, I know beyond a doubt, you were totally right. With all my flaws, & all the pebbles flung our way, you’ve remained steadfast. Only a man who loves God can love the way you love. You are an epitome of a man who loves his wife as Christ loves the church. Your kind is rare. Peaceful in every sense of the word, strong, yet so gentle, patient and kind and so giving, expecting nothing in return. I bless God for making me the bone of your bone & flesh of your flesh. Sweetheart, our love story is yet unfolding. The best years of your life have just dawned, so celebrate this birthday like you never have. As you celebrate, I celebrate you, my knight in dazzling amour. Nations will come to your light & kings to the brightness of your rising. The blessed will call you blessed. God will honour you and satisfy you with long life and bring everything that concerns you to a perfect and expected conclusion. Have a happy fun filled birthday, love of my life.”

Anyone who is acquainted with the love story of this actress (not Tunde Kelani’s ‘Thunderbolt Magun’) would appreciate such a deep message on the occasion of her husband’s birthday.

One Sussan Onyenunachim described what Solomon feels for Uche as ‘unconditional love. “If I hadn’t known you closely enough, I’d just #like and pass. I need to say thank you to Solomon Mac-Auley for being a proof that marriage can be as it ought to be and that being consistent is not a big deal. You have consistently, without pride of being #theman, displayed unconditional love and respect for your wife even publicly #YouNoSend. God bless you for leading an exemplary life; the younger men are watching and the next generation of women can believe that men who love God and allow their lives to exude same, exist. Thank you Uche Mac-Auley, for making it possible and for sharing him with us, especially #Naz. Keep flourishing on every side, both of you. #StayGreat and #StayBlessed #LoveYouMega.”
