The Senior Pastor of Praise Arena-Kingdom Light Christian Centre, Dr Jummy Adetoyese-Olagunju has commended the effort of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde in the recent employment of virtually impaired graduates in their States.

Adetoyese-Olagunju said this at a Special Thanksgiving Service of the church for two virtually impaired graduates – Barrister Adesola Adedokun Ajayi, and Joseph Adeniyi Omoare, beneficiaries of the scholarship by Praise Arena Church who were recently employed by the Lagos and Oyo State Governments; the thanksgiving service was held at Praise Arena Church, Swiss International,The Vistana, VGC, Lekki Lagos.

Adesola, a graduate of Law from the University of Lagos was recently employed by the Ministry of Judiciary, Lagos State and Mr Joseph Adeniyi Omoare, a graduate of Education from Oyo State College of Education was among 150 persons living with disability recently employed by the Oyo State Government.

He commended the efforts of the State Governors in providing sustainable livelihoods for persons living with disability within their states.

Adetoyese-Olagunju said “we are grateful to the Lagos and Oyo State Governor for the kind gesture given to the two graduates, it is an indication of the friendly policy put in place to support the vulnerable and downtrodden in the society”.

He noted that creating an inclusive and accessible environment for persons with disabilities to live and thrive among their peers is not charity; rather, it is the economic responsibility of the government and it is in the best interest of the people they represent.

He noted that without access to quality education and sustainable livelihood, children living with disabilities are unable to contribute meaningfully to the economy, are more prone to violence and experience a slower pace of social and human development.

He reinstated the readiness of the church in impacting more lives as well as working with other Institutions. The Pastor implores the beneficiaries to reciprocate the kind gesture by creating opportunities that will make life better for other vulnerable people.

Adesola, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, thanked the State Government for its inclusive governance, as the gesture would go a long way in improving the lives of the recipients and their families.

He said that the opportunity given to him by the Lagos State government and the church can never be forgotten. I would implore other churches and institutions to invest their time and resources towards the needy and vulnerable people within their environment.

He posited further that there are millions of virtually impaired persons and people with special needs in Nigeria who need support and policy framework that would include them in governance.

“I have discovered that across all sector of our national life which include transportation, housing, environment, education; people with special needs go through harrowing experiences that need urgent attention, he said.

Adesola asserted that the virtually impaired and physically challenged communities are made up of industrious people who have amazing talents, skills and potentials if given the right environment could be explored for greater productivity.

Also speaking in admiration of the support of Praise Arena Church and the Oyo State government, Omoare said that he will never forget the show of love given to him at a time when all hope was lost.

He said that it is the support given to him by the church that enabled him to go to school at a time when his wife left him after he became virtually impaired due to occupational accident.

“I become blind nine years ago due to occupational accident. That year, my wife left me and my father who was diabetic died of the complication because of my new status.

I wanted to go to school but I had no support which made me to be thinking of committing suicide at that time but help came when I called Pastor Jummy Adetoyese-Olagunju during his regular radio programme on EKO FM for help and the church took up my education bill till l graduated”, he said.

He promised to make best use of the opportunity given to him by the Oyo State government and calls for more support from the government and other non-State actors to do more to make live meaningful for persons living with disability in our society.

Pastor Jummy Adetoyese-Olagunju prayed for good success for  Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde and he wants other States to extend such kind gestures to people living with disabilities in the Society.

  • LENTEN MESSAGE: His arrival and your divine turnaround

LENTEN MESSAGE: His arrival and your divine turnaround

    Venerable Henry Adelegan

Text: “…… when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. ( Luke 5:5-6)

The passage from where our text is picked tells a story of a professional fisherman, a man who knew his onions when it came to fishing, a man who knew that to be a successful fisherman, you must go fishing at night, that the spoils you get is dependent on the tools you work with and experience of your workforce. The man, Simon Peter, complied with all that were needful to be successful in the business but regrettably, he failed woefully. He experienced a life of toiling instead of spoiling. While he was washing his net, Jesus Christ arrived at the scene, saw the other fishermen but had favour on Simon Peter, He requested to use his boat for evangelism work and he obliged. When he did this, Jesus decided to compensate him for his selfless service – He asked him to cast his net into the deep, where he had previously failed. Suddenly, there was a turnaround story, the unimaginable happened as fishes that had hitherto fled his net returned in very large numbers such that he had a net tearing and boat sinking experience.

Beloved, revival from toiling to spoiling, from death to life, transition from a nobody to somebody and elevation from being useless to a useful vessel begins with His arrival and the decision to obey His instructions. When He steps into the boat of your life, as He did with Simon, His favour will bring to you what you didn’t deserve as He did with the Israelites. In Exodus 12:36 when the Israelites were leaving the land of bondage, it was recorded that “.. the Lord gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.” (cf 1 Kings 11:18-20; Nehemiah 2:4-6). Beloved, whenever He steps into the boat of your life, He suspends the laws of nature, destroys whatever is called impossibilities, rebukes powers holding you to the same position and opens the gateway of awesome testimonies (Isaiah 65:21-24). The arrival of Jesus does not only give what is deserved but makes a way where one never knew that there was one – His arrival literarily suspends all natural laws as He did with Simon Peter.

Queen Esther found herself in a quagmire when Mordecal asked her to intervene in the predicament of the Jews who through the conscription of Haman were about to be exterminated. It probably would have been easy for her to plead the cause of her people before the King but she wasn’t permitted by law to see the King except the King called for her. Anyone who flouted this law would be put to death. Mindless of this law, Queen Esther requested her people to fast and pray for her as she was determined to face the King. God accepted the fasting and prayers of the Jews, she went in to the King “… and when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre. Then said the king unto her, What wilt thou, queen Esther? and what is thy request? it shall be even given thee to the half of the kingdom (Esther 5:2-3). The arrival of His power changed the narratives and opened the gateway to turnaround testimonies. Beloved, when He arrives, nothing shall ever be impossible for you, no road that can close against you or any of yours because mountains shall skip like rams at your presence, the Red Sea standing against you shall part asunder and the River Jordan blocking your path shall flee.

When He arrives for you brethren, He will grant you unbelievable elevation and recognition such that where you have been called a nobody, He would make you an eternal excellency and the joy of many generations. Then, “… the sons of strangers shall build up your walls, and their kings shall minister unto you, your gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto you the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought. For the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted” (Isaiah 60:10-12). Beloved, the only guarantee for progress in whatever area of life (business, marriage, ministry, education, economy etc) is His arrival. No wonder the Scripture says that, it’s “…..not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it”. (Zech. 4:6-7). His arrival removes every human and/or spiritual mountains, destroys satanic foundations or evil inheritances plaguing lives and destinies, breaks curses from known and unknown quarters, liberates from evil captivity and releases to awesome testimonies. (cf Acts 2:47).

During this season of lent, you need to surrender all of you (time, talent and treasures) to Him like Simon did, obey Him to the letter, trust absolutely in the Lord with all your heart, don’t lean unto your own understanding ( Prov. 3:5) and don’t rationalise how your miracles will come. The Almighty God who turned things around for Simon Peter shall do likewise for you. You shall not only have a net breaking and boat sinking experiences but you shall be an eternal reference point like Simon Peter, in Jesus’ name.

    • Prayer: Father, give me grace of your divine visitation today and let your favour take me from where I am to where you have purposed for me, in Jesus’ name.
  • PFN president Oke unveils 7-point agenda

PFN president Oke unveils 7-point agenda

By Bisi Oladele, Southwest Bureau Chief

The new president, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Bishop Wale Oke, has unveiled a seven-point agenda for his administration which includes promotion of North-South partnership, mobilizing all pentecostals for kingdom advancement and nation building as well as youth empowerment for nation building.

Oke, who is also the Presiding Bishop, Sword of the Spirit Ministries, disclosed this while addressing reporters in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital yesterday.

He also accused Nigerian politicians of handling the forthcoming 2023 election as a make-or-mar poll for the country given their body language.

He said: “We are face-to-face with a make-or-mar 2023 election with the way politicians are playing the game. Therefore, we as Christians see it as a call to duty to pull Nigeria back from breaking, to prevent Nigerian from becoming a failed state.”

Oke was elected the seventh president of the fellowship in Enugu last week.

He said the signs interpreted by an American some years ago which made him predict that Nigeria would break in 2015 are here again. At the time, Oke said Christians went on their knees to pray against the prediction because a united Nigeria is far better than its independent fractions.

“But God loves Nigeria. He cares for Nigeria. He has a plan for Nigeria. That is why He answered our prayers.” He said.

Explaining three of the seven points, the cleric said PFN under his leadership would promote partnership between southern and northern Nigeria for national strength and unity. We will explore the strength we have as a people of the same nation as against exploiting the fault lines. We will start in the church. The church in the south will partner with the church in the north. We will do this through spiritual education and enlightenment.”

He further explained that the partnership would be built through sincerity of purpose, working in love and be backed up with prayers. With the above, Oke expressed confidence that difference in religion will not be a barrier because everyone will naturally respond to love once it is given sincerely.

He added that the fellowship would mobilize all pentecostals across the 774 local governments of the nation for kingdom advancement and nation building. “We will do this by praying, fasting and speaking truth to power. We will mobilize our followers for nation building economically and politically to bring their enormous number to bear in building Nigeria. We don’t want our members to lay back and be complaining. We want to take responsibility to build the nation.” He said.

He also disclosed PFN’s plan to empower youths in the church through education, enlightenment, skill acquisition training and start-up capitals to enable them participate in kingdom work and nation building. With spiritual, political and economic enlightenment, he said youths will participate more in economic, spiritual and political activities that will make Nigeria a better place.

  • I don’t regret quitting pharmacy for ministry –Adesina

I don’t regret quitting pharmacy for ministry –Adesina

As part of activities marking his three decades in the pastoral ministry, the General Overseer of Jubilee Christian Church International, Abeokuta, Rev. Kunle Adesina speaks with Adeola Ogunlade about his life, ministry, priority of his church and its 29th convention.

Can you share with us your background?

I was born, raised in Lagos and had all my education in Lagos. I attended the Federal School of Art and Science, Victoria Island, Lagos for West African School Certificate (WASC) Advanced level. I proceeded to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) where I studied Pharmacy and graduated in 1984. I served in 1984/1985. I started working at the Lagos State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta as a pharmacist before quitting in 1986.

    Why did you quit?

I did because I had a strong burden in my heart that I could not ignore the burden that God wanted me to go into full time ministry. The fellowship started while I was still working in the state hospital. I worked for about four years as a grade one pharmacist. When the call came, I knew it was God because I did not feel that I belong to that place anymore. I lost interest in the job. When I put in my resignation letter, the then Permanent Secretary of the State Health Care Board called me and asked why I was leaving the lucrative job. ‘Is it because of the salary?’ I said, ‘If am going to tell this man that I am going into full time ministry as a pastor, he would say I have lost my mind.’ I told him that my elder wants me to come and work with him. So, he asked if it is a family matter. I said yes (Sigh)! After all, the Bible said Jesus is our brother and he wants me to come and work with him. He then left me alone to my decision.

When I was in Lagos, I attended Christ Chapel Church. I knew am not going to work in Lagos. Though I was born in Lagos, the first time I stepped out of Lagos was when I went to do my internship at the State Hospital in Abeokuta, Shokemi, ljaiye. Immediately, I got to the hospital, I knew that this was the place that God wanted me to work. I joined a fellowship while I was doing my internship and I became its President. I later left for Osun State for my National Youth Service. When I got to the hospital in Osun, I led a fellowship and it was growing, but then, I had to leave because God wanted me back in Abeokuta. When I returned, I couldn’t go back to the hospital as the calling was strong on my mind to start the ministry. We started a fellowship and five years later, it metamorphosed into Jubilee Christian Church International.

Did you have any struggle when you had the call of God?

In those days, like Jesus said that my meat is to do the work of him that sent me and to finish his work. The hunger that we had then was to serve God not tithe and offering. To get a job then was not a problem. I would have equally started a pharmacist shop and got a lot of money. That was not want excite me then and till today, what excite me is to serve God and serve him whole heatedly. I don’t regret the steps I took because when I look back from where God has taken me to, I don’t have any other choice but to say thank you Jesus for helping me to get it right. Where God has taken me today, in terms of reaching out to different nations and cities and been a blessing to them amazes me. Just because I obeyed God, God has open doors for me in several places.

How is Christianity today compared to when you were on campus?

We started in January 1987 as a fellowship. We were only teaching the word of God. Five years later, when we started the church, there were changes because there is a difference between a church and a fellowship. Like wedding and other things, there have to be some changes. The doctrinal teachings were the same. The doctrinal teaching we had when we started the fellowship was the foundation we built upon. The word of God does not change and that is what we believe in and hold on to. There have not been changes except that the church has more assignments taking the gospel to various parts of the world.

What were the priorities of the church then?

I think what has changed is the focus and emphasis. In those days, the emphasis was more on evangelism, crusades, prayer conference, teaching and disciplining the people. I remember one of the songs we sing in those days: when is raining or fire is burning, I will follow Jesus:  You take the whole world but give me Jesus … It was more of the discipline focus that was what was going on and it made people to ignore mundane things of the world.

As time went on, several changes came, and they were changes in emphasis. Emphasis is now on teachings on faith, and prosperity. It was not that those things were not there when we started, there was not much emphasis. It is not like it is today where people talk more of how to make money. It was not like that before. There have been changes and that has drastically affected the body of Christ, especially in this part of the world as people see material things as priority. If a minister of God does not have wealth, he is not succeeding. People have forgotten that there are ministers that their ministry is in the rural area and do not have food to eat, yet they have to do the work that God has sent them to do. How are we going to say that they are not successful. Many people misconstrue prosperity as success before God and is not true. There are at times when people use how a minister of God dresses to assess whether they are succeeding or not

    Has that affected the church?

It has affected the quality of believers. As somebody said, the revival in Nigeria is widespread but not deep. That shows the depth that people can go anything to make money. There are lots of testimonies people cannot give about how they got their wealth; not that they are afraid of robbers but they are not proud of what led to it. They cannot testify that this was what God did, not much testimony to it because of the consequences of over emphasis on material things. It is important to note that God wants us to prosper and be in good health.  But the emphasis should be more on the kingdom of God. Jesus said, ‘Seek ye first the kingdom of God and every other thing shall be added unto you.’ Let us shift our focus to the kingdom.

What is the vision of the Jubilee church

Our vision is to release men to fulfil destiny. People are held captive by satanic bondage and to prepare them for the coming of Christ.

Upcoming 29th convention of your church

Every November and December, the church undergoes prayer and fasting-50 days for workers and 30 days for lay members. As we waited on God for direction in the New Year, God told us 2021 is a year of total victory in every area of our life. That informs the theme of the convention – From Victory to victory.

The convention holds between March 14 and 21. We have 12 seasoned men of God and they have been a great blessing to the church for many years. Usually, we invite 12 ministers – eight regulars and four new ones. They include: The President and founding Pastor-General, Rhema Christian Church & Tower International, Bishop Taiwo Akinola; General Overseer, Sanctuary of God Christian Assembly, Apostle Ken Nwankama; Senior Pastor, Victory Life Bible, Apostle Lawrence Achudume, and General Overseer, Word Redemption Foundation, Apostle Ayo Akingbade.

What is the consequence of walking in victory for individuals and the nation at large?

There will be growth of the church. Nigeria will experience superlative victory. The Bible has given us a lot of God’s promises that we can hold on.  Epidemic and pandemic are not strange in the word of God. Like David said, ‘Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.’ One of the things we teach our people is that they remain steadfast in their walk with God and do not do things that will make God leave them, especially as they adhere to the simple rules of hygiene prescribed by the government.

I recall that the General Overseer, The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye inaugurated your church several decades ago. What is your relationship with him?

He is my spiritual father. He was ordained by my wife and I. The church oversight is submitted to him. He counsels, prays and mentors us.

Are you concerned about training pastors for the gospel?

We have different workshops both virtual and physical and some of the areas we will be looking at include: how ministers can adjust their ministry to reality, and how to survive in the COVID-19 era. Besides the minister’s conference, there will be workshops on how to survive in business in this era. Also, there will be empowerment sessions, like understanding the challenges of the new normal in the COVID-19 era, career options in the virtual world, COVID-19: taking responsibility, developing entrepreneurial mindset, praise evening (March 19), among others.

  • Enjoying your marriage in a glorious togetherness

Enjoying your marriage in a glorious togetherness

    By Taiwo Akinola

Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes ~ Songs of Solomon 1:15.

    Introduction:

The Bible is a perfect manual for marital success. It casts a vision of God’s out-of-this-world design for marital intimacy, and it challenges couples not to settle for an ordinary relationship but for a fulfilling and kingdom-focused marriage.

Marriage is ordained and instituted by God Himself in Paradise, and it is articulated in the Bible as a lifelong union between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:24). It is a solemn covenant union between husband and wife under the watchful eye of the Almighty God.

The Lord Jesus Christ signified the institution of marriage by performing the first of His recorded miracles at a marriage ceremony in Cana of Galilee (John 2:1-11). He described marriage as a relationship so intimate that “the two become one flesh”, and He emphasized unequivocally that marriage is a God-made and lifelong institution (Matthew 19:4–6).

However, in the gospel, the position of Jesus Christ also shows that marriage is not an end in itself. We did not come to the earth just to marry, procreate and die, but rather to fulfill the Ultimate Purpose of glorifying God by demonstrating His love to the world. And, if destiny is all about God’s purpose for your life, then it is reasonable to seek ways of validating it from God’s Word, the Bible.

Imperatives for Enjoying a Marital Relationship

Marriage can be a happy and beautiful venture only when certain critical success factors are well-considered and factored into its structure. In particular, homes can be quite godly and yet very happy where necessary Bible ingredients are cherished as imperatives within their walls.

Firstly, it is very important to constantly assess the foundation upon which you are building your marriage and to effect necessary repairs where applicable. Marriage is as strong as the basis on which it is founded; its stability and durability depend on the depth and the strength of its base.

A marriage built on a solid and deep foundation will not only survive but also thrive amid terrible storms of life (Matthew 7:24-25). On the contrary, anything built on a faulty foundation risks an ultimate collapse. And, without fear of overemphasis, anything including marriage, built on a faulty foundation only awaits a collapse, unless some pragmatic steps are taken.

It should be emphasized that the choice of a spouse is a paramount factor in marital success. In fact, the single most dangerous mistake anyone can make in life is in relation to the choice of marital partner.

A marriage union tends to be happy only when a good man marries a good woman, but that happens when the right choice is made and deliberate efforts are put in place to build up the union. Nothing compares with the will of God in marriage.

Unfortunately, today, there are many couples who seem to be in perpetual emotional pain because their marriages are contracted on faulty foundations and plagued with gross ignorance as to how to tackle the mess in which they have found themselves.

For the avoidance of doubt, marital relationships that will be enjoyed must be built on Christ and God’s principles (1 Corinthians 3:11).

From the marriage standards that God set in Eden, we can deduce that God’s presence in a marital relationship is primary to the success of the holy union.

The word “Eden” is a Hebrew word, which means “where God dwells”. Thus, the first thing God gave man was “His Presence”, and hence, the first thing a man needs is not a woman, it is the presence of God. A woman should delight in meeting her spouse in the presence of God or allow the man to remain alone.

No matter what you put into your marriage, if the foundation is faulty, that marriage may not last (Psalm 11:3). However, when a marriage with faulty foundations is genuinely submitted to the righteousness of Christ, the couple is no longer helpless, because there is nothing too hard for God (Jeremiah 32:17).

Moreover, whenever repair needs are identified in our homes, we must allow the Divine Axe to go right down to the roots and uproot unprofitable plantations.

Secondly, couples that hope to enjoy their marital union in glorious togetherness must cultivate the attributes of genuine love one for another and determine to keep their marital vows and covenants till death.

Once married, couples often neglect the area of developing their love for each other as it was before their wedding day, particularly after life’s purposes are discovered, career paths are developed and the kids are grown.

Yes indeed, only a few things in life can compare with the ecstasy of true love. The flame of it keeps the hearts warm and supplies the chemical that makes us feel really good. However, continuing to develop that love after the wedding day is a challenge we all must accept.

Continuing a dating life is very important to the success and happiness of every marital union. It may require some tools and some strategic planning for couples, but it is still very vital that we maintain secure and intimate relationships in our marriages and homes.

Even in the older marital unions, strategic tools are very useful for couples that truly desire to continue developing their loving relationships one for another. Continue respecting and honoring each other, passionately. Make important decisions together. Make time for total communication. Resolve and not report crisis quickly. Relax in your home and laugh together. And, most importantly, pray, read the Bible and worship God together.

Thirdly, loving God fervently and serving Him faithfully together is a major imperative for couples that dream of a glorious and joyful togetherness under the watchful eyes of God.

Before you ever had a love for each other as a couple, God had sketched out your lives and what He certainly expects or longs for in your life (Jeremiah 29:11). Yes, God fashioned your destiny before you were born (Psalm 139:16).

As pointed out earlier, marriage should not be seen as an end in itself. The goals in marriage go beyond the nuptial flights and the pleasure. In other words, we did not come to the earth just to marry, procreate and die, but rather to fulfill God’s Ultimate Purpose.

The primary purpose of the marital union is to glorify God. In togetherness, every couple ought to glorify God and pursue His purposes in the holy union to fulfill destiny. And, this is best served by loving God and demonstrating His love to the world.

Friends and brethren, in conclusion, start with where you are today, allowing God’s grand plan to steer your marriage. Dream up things that would add joy and a sense of accomplishment to your spouse. Make room for changes in your attitudes where necessary, and seriously commit your destiny to the beauty of glorifying God in your home.

Love is a decision to make. Loving God, serving and glorifying Him, and loving each other ardently are quality decisions we must never defer. May God’s blessings be upon your marriage and home, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. Happy Sunday!

Bishop Taiwo Akinola is the Presiding Bishop of Rhema Christian Church and Towers, Sango Otta, Ogun State, Nigeria.

The annual gesture is aimed at building and empowering corps members as part of his contribution to nation building.

Every year, no fewer than 30 corps members are posted to Mercy TV Station for primary assignments.

The church provides accommodation and salary for them.

At the end of their service year, Fufeyin blesses and empowers them with cash.

While outgoing corps members received N1m, the incoming ones got a welcome package of N500, 000.

LENTEN MESSAGE: Enemies of Christianity – sin and the flesh!

    Venerable Henry Adelegan

Text: Matthew 5:20 “…..unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisee and teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

It is incontrovertible that as children of God, Surprising victory is your heritage. There is no gainsaying the fact that as believers, your surprising victory is non-negotiable and it had been established in Christ Jesus. It is however pertinent to note  that in most cases there are privileges and benefits which are available by God for men but are never attainable or achievable by men. Beloved in Christ, kindly be informed that your surprising victory, even as a believer, is contestable and it is daily being challenged by the opponents of surprising victory. Paul told the Ephesians in Ephesians 6:10-12 that believers are in a warfare and that we have enemies. The Psalmist also said in Psalm 34:19 that many, not a few, are the contest or warfare of believers. This was further corroborated by Jesus Christ in John 16:33 that In the world, believers shall be exposed to contests.

From our text, Jesus Christ said three things which are worthy of note. He confirmed firstly that whatever had a beginning must surely have an end. This is sufficing to state that we shall all enter into judgment of God when our tenor ends here (Romans 14:10b, 12). He continued that the people that passed at the Judgment seat shall enter into the kingdom of heaven and those who failed shall be denied of the kingdom of heaven to a place of weeping and regret (Matthew 25:31-33). Lastly, He confirmed that righteousness (or righteous living) is the right attidude to get to the kingdom. He added that such righteousness must however surpass the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees. Beloved, heaven has standards.

Who are the Pharisees and the scribes that we must surpass? They are religious people that their words are not their bonds (Matthew 23:3), they love to be recognised in the public space and engage in showmanship (Matthew 23:5), they are very proud people (Matthew 23:11-12), they are hypocrites (Matthew 23:23), they are clean on the outside, carry big Bibles, have big titles, speak in tongues etc but are filled with bitterness, pride, anger and uncleanness (Matthew 23:25,27, 28)

Dear beloved in Christ, God is calling on you at this season of Lent to urgently consider your ways and change to avoid regret  when the labour of the labourer shall end. It is pertinent to state again that the end of man shall come at a time not determinable by age, state of health, personal security put in place or spiritual standing and other social status apparatus. For you not to come to a regrettable end, you must flee the works of the flesh which are manifest in Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like because they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21). You must distance yourself from activities of the flesh and ensure that temporal things are not focussed on above eternal matters, that the carnality of this life is not referenced above spirituality, that the inessentials of life here does not take preeminence over the significants of life hereafter and that momentary pleasure is not allowed to usurp our everlasting treasure (Romans 8:6, 8).

Dear people on this pilgrimage journey, the end is coming very soon and it shall come when you are not expecting it and it may be either today or tomorrow. What does it profit a man if he gains the world and loses his soul (Mk. 8:36). You have a glorious opportunity today to ask God for forgiveness, to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, to make a conscious effort to change and be ready for eternal life. You need to forsake your bad ways today, renounce your membership of those secret cults, end smoking and taking of those dangerous drugs, cry to God to help you, reconcile with those that have offended you, stop being proud, halt being overtly ambitious and distance yourself from the works of the flesh. You must not transgress against the laws of God (1 John 3:4), you must do what is right and not what you like, you must engage in what you are required and not the things you desire and you must be committed to good and charitable works (James 4:17). I pray that you will not end your pilgrimage journey here in regret, in the name of Jesus. Amen!

    • Prayer: Lord, keep me in the path of righteousness to the end in the name of Jesus Christ.
