GOFAMINT donates relief materials to Ogun

    By Adejo David

As part of plans to ease the suffering of citizens due to the stay-at-home order by President Muhammadu Buhari in combating the coronavirus pandemic, the Gospel Faith Mission International (GOFAMINT) has donated relief food items to residents of Ogun State.

The Assistant General Secretary of the church, Pastor Olusegun Onayemi, who presented the items on behalf of the General Overseer Pastor (Dr) Elijah Abina at the office of the Governor in Abeokuta, said the mission feels the suffering of citizens following the lockdown order.

The retired Permanent Secretary in Ogun State said: “We believe that our gospel message should be with some kind gestures. We have done that within our church congregation, trying to take care of the less-privileged in the church, by giving some items and cash money all over Nigeria and beyond and we believe that we should extend that same gestures to Ogun State citizens.”

Asked why the church didn’t take the items directly to the needy, Onayemi said the government is in best position to distribute them.

“The people who you want to meet are locked up in their homes, so you cannot reach them. Government knows how to distributes the items. Government knows the people who needs the palliatives. We are not the only organisation giving government this kind of gestures. By the time it is put together, some going to motherless homes,  ophanages and for ease coordination  of the items, the government has the responsibility and the way it should reach the people in need of it.”

Ogun State Head of Service, Mrs. Amope Ajibola Chokor, thanked the church for the donation. She expressed the Governor’s appreciation for the kind gesture and urged other religious and corporate organisations who have the interest of the less-privileged in the state to support.”

  • COVID-19 must be fought spiritually – Igbele

COVID-19 must be fought spiritually – Igbele

As the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic with Nigeria’s confirmed cases rising, Presiding Bishop of Holy Ghost Mission (Happy Family Centre), Bishop Charles Ighele, spoke to ADEOLA OGUNLADE on the virus, role of the church and government relentless effort at curbing its spread. Excerpts:

What is your general overview of your COVID-19?

As a man of God, looking at it from the history of the world, the first disaster that affected the world was the flood. That flood was caused by God Himself. It swept out all the people of the race, except Noah and His family who were found to be righteous. We have had a lot of plagues that had taken placed on the planet earth. I know that there was The Justian Plague, which came from Egypt and half of the world population was wiped out.

There was another plague I read about eight years in book written by Jigba Igwe. I saw a plague in that book. The plague came from China in 1336. It was called the Bubonic plague. In 1336, the plague reached England and Italy and any country it went into, about half of the population of the people died. It was called the Black Death. The plague traveled through the black sea from China to Europe. It came through travelers and sailors. It was that period the word quarantine came into existence. Plagues have already been there in human history. Since 1940, cholera and smallpox plague wiped out about 10 million people in Mexico. So, far, this is one of them. I see historically and I look at it, this is just one of them and by God’s grace, it will be curtailed.

This coronavirus is so symbolic. We had similar pandemic from China (SARS and MERS), is it a results of the signs of the end time or unhygienic ways people are living their lives?

You see in the End Time, a lot of disasters will happen. Secondly, when men turn their back from God anything can happen. Generally, the one caused by God Himself was because they turned their back from God. The imagination of their heart were evil continually and God repented that he made man.

A lot of plagues that have hit the earth were results of man saying I know too much or unhygienic ways of men. In the bible, even in the Old Testament, God in the Old Testament commanded that excretes should be buried. God is a God who loves neatness. On the planet earth, men lives their lives anyhow. People eat what they should not eat and they are dirty all over the world. The more man turns his back from God, the more man is open to plague.

For us as believers at this time, what should be our attitude?

I thought that many of the Governors in Nigeria are Christians or Muslim and I want to commend the Lagos State Government where l stay. He has done an excellent job in sensitising the people. There is not much one can do like he has done. All the Governors have done tremendously well. Death is everywhere and imminent and we don’t know where we can run to and we don’t have the facility.

What I want to say is that the government has tried. I want the government and citizens to sit up and come corporately closer to God. I think when there is problem, man will come closer to God. Naturally, and in this very instance, I hear all mosques and churches closed down. I am saying if I were the Governor, I will not close down a church or place of worship.

In 1336-1338, when there was plague in England, the King of England, Edward the Third, called on the churches to pray. He asked the Bishop of Canterbury to organise the churches to pray and Bishops started praying. The plague came and the people started praying and its drew many closer to God and some its drew them far away from God.

Americans are washing their hands but they are still dying. In London, a plague took place in 1665 and as they were dying, those who survived put the sign of the cross on their doors and with inscription on their doors saying Jesus have mercy upon us. So, I think that what I really think what the Nigeria authorities to do if we are really a religious country is to call for prayers.

Closing down of churches is not okay with me, instead I will say, families of the pastors, bishops and nearby families can go to church and worship and should not near each other. If we are 12 at home, do we keep social distances in the same house? The pastors and their families can go to church and keep social distance from one another. I know that a lot of pastors have misbehaved. Some people, who are called men of God, are not truthful. Some are highly immoral and some are running after money and many Nigerians generally are fed up with churches because they feel pastors are after money and some are like satanic temples.

In Israel, things were bad that people backslidded in the time of Ahab and Jezebel.  Elijah thought he was the only one that was righteous but God told him that there are still 7, 000 faithful Prophets not following Baal. I want Nigerians to know that there are still holy and honourable men of God. Just allow pastors go to church and ensure there should be social distance.

I hear some pastors saying God is in your heart and this is not so if you know how God operate. God want people to know him individually and corporately. There is the spiritual energy that is released when people meet to pray.  Let fight the virus spiritually because all of us will one day will face death. The President of Brazil last Thursday decreed that places of worship are essential services like supermarkets and pharmacies.

There were churches harassed and Pastors arrested for failure to comply with the lockdown directives. Should the pastor had obeyed and later negotiate with the government?

In our ministry, we have nearly 80 churches in this country. The police went to two of our churches. In one of them, they were satisfied with what they saw but the other church there were 20 in service and members were told to leave the church. They were 20, which was in line with government regulation.

They sat separated and said that the church should close and go home. For me, that was not okay at all. lf the government should say 20 should be in one place, as far as l am concerned , I obeyed. Some of the medical doctors in one of our churches called me and said children cannot do social distance. What do we do and I said that for now, the children church should be closed and let them sit with their parents in the adult church. So, they sat by family in accordance with the law of the state. If they should say so and you go out and say, I will not comply. I think it is a thing not to disobey constituted authorities. It can’t be negotiated. They have to be law and order in any society

Are you calling on CAN AND PFN to go back to the negotiating table with the government over the closure of the church?

That is what they should do. To me, I know that the Governors are either Christians and Muslim and they will be assured the church will adhere to safety guidelines,. But let prayers be made continually made to God over COVID-19. Let there be prayers. The God aspect of faith have not be brought into it. I don’t see how Christians leaders would be silent; we can’t be silent at this time, I want to plead with the men of God; no Governor should be attacked or insulted.

There is fear and they want to protect their citizens. It is just a matter of negotiating with them. For example, if 20 people can be in the supermarket and shopping mail or even in the open market or other essential services such as hospital, then let them go to church. Men of God and their staff are essential services. People are calling us, people are dying, they are committing suicide, they run to us.

The real church is not a joke especially, those people going through emotional trauma. They hve nowhere to go to. If NEPA is an essential service, then, let men of God and their staff  be included as essential service providers. Let them be there to minister to the needs of the people. In times like this, pastor don’t run away from the battle fronts.

Likewise medical doctors and nurses don’t run away from battle fronts. All of us should be at the front of this battle. There are those who believe in prayers. They are those who believe in the word of God and they are just happy. Fear has destroyed more people than coronavirus. So, as they hear the word of God and the fear goes away, they are going to be happy. So, let CAN and PFN and other leaders who have influence step into this thing and then negotiate with the different governments so that they can be what we called skeletal essential service provided by the church

Do you believe that Coronavirus will end soon?

When I look at the history of plagues, if God should cause a plague like the one that was caused by God, which was restricted to Israel, people were dying and King David prayed, and offered sacrifice and the plague stopped immediately. So, if this plague is caused by God, as we cry out, it can end immediately.

But if  a plague is caused by the misbehaviors of man such as when man eat what he should not eat and do what is not supposed to do, all we have to do is that our families to be protected and God should be bring the medical solution that can take care of it.  COVID-19  is affecting the world economy, human and personal relationship. It will also affect scientific inventions.

Infact, COVID-19 will affect a lot of things. Some plagues in the past have brought about revolution. I want to just advise that the poverty level have been very high. What will be the effect of the lockdown on the people? Right now, my advice to government is what is going to happen to this poor people already poor. What will be the effect of the lockdown on them?

On that basics, we need to bring about programme that will help to mass lift the people into productivity. How can we as government lift the stark illiterates to productivity? How can we as a government have a census and help Nigeria read and write? How can we help and position students in secondary school into productivity? How can we raise people who went to universities and cannot spell their names?

How can we make them productive in accordance with their reading capacity? After each great revolution, when we look at the French revolution of 1959. I want to tell you that the social protest will arise. There will be serious war after this and it will be more serious than the plague and countries of the world should begin to get grains ready on how we can prevent it.

COVID-19: CMCM donates N4.7m to Lagos, others

    By Sunday Oguntola

Christ Miracle Church Mission Worldwide (CMCM) has donated N4.7m to Lagos and other states in the South West to support their efforts to stop spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

President of the church, Prophet Peter Adebisi, announced this last Sunday.

Lagos, being the epicentre of the pandemic in Nigeria, will get N2m while Ogun got N1m.

Osun gets N750, 000; Ekiti N500, 000 while Oyo and Ondo will receive N250, 000 each.

According to Adebisi, the church deemed it fit to donate the fund to help the various state governments in their efforts at curbing the spread of the disease.

He insisted churches must play very critical roles in ensuring the welfare of people who are or may soon become less privileged in the current circumstances.

He urged church leaders to join hands with the government in the fight against the coronavirus scourge.

“I contend that this period is a great test to the effective leadership of our Churches and I commend all the Churches who have already taken initiatives to touch lives at this critical moment.

“We have to take proactive steps to protect ourselves from infection,” Adebisi began.

“To reduce the number of gatherings in church to the barest necessary, we encourage people to do stay at home, most importantly maintain the social distancing as announced by the government,” he stressed.

He said it was not time to play games or flex muscles with the government but work together at ensuring that the pandemic does not spread.

“Though some still doubt whether the virus is real while some see it as a big man disease but the fact remains that it is real and that thousands of people have been killed by the virus.

“The virus is real and its destructive impacts cannot be overemphasised.

“My advice to Christians and Nigerians in general is that we should join hands with the government to break the chain of the spread of COVID-19. We can still worship God in smaller units in our homes and be blessed,” he stated.

He also said the stay- at- order will not affect the worship of God, or hinder the Gospel as most Christian leaders are taking advantage of the social and electronic media to reach out to more people.

Explaining further, he said, “Nigeria is a highly religious state, with the Nigerian Constitution grants freedom of worship. But in the face of this glaring global pandemic challenge, understanding is needed from all stakeholders.

“The order on restrictions is not against worship and worshippers, as the case maybe but against the further spread of the virus. For me, it’s a good one.

“At this trying time, let us apply Godly wisdom and follow His directive in the book of Isaiah 26:20, which says: Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until HIS wrath has passed by.

“This too shall pass in the precious name of our Lord Jesus. We watch and pray,” he added.

  • Lenten Message: Stop being judgmental, Show Empathy!

Lenten Message: Stop being judgmental, Show Empathy!

    By Ven. Henry Adelegan

That life is fraught with accusers, is a truism; that the world is rife with false accusers, is neither strange nor new; that people concoct damaging stories to smear the image of the innocent and drag them in the mud, is common, and that lots of stories and messages being bandied in the social media are fraught with evil intentions, false, malicious and wicked, is incontrovertible. In a lot of cases, it had been noted with alarming dismay that either the wrong or right accusers are engaging in same or similar offences but theirs are still covered and yet to be exposed.

From the passage picked as our text, the Pharisees and Scribes came to Jesus Christ in the temple, after returning from the Mount of Olives, with stones in one hand, the constitution of Moses in the other hand and screams on their lips. They brought a woman who had been caught in adultery and were quoting sections and sub-sections of the constitution which stipulated that whosoever committed such an offence must be stoned to death and they wanted Jesus Christ to validate what the constitution had said to enable them stone the woman to death (Lev. 20:10; Deut. 22:22). Besides the fact that they wanted the woman to be stoned, their demand was also a ploy to set a theological trap for Jesus Christ.

Beloved in Christ, kindly note that human beings in their desperate bids to bring to fruition their diabolical plans and satanic aspirations will stop at nothing to bring a child of glory down from his/her divine Olympian height but our position as children of God is not to stigmatise but to show empathy. Just as it was done to our Lord Jesus Christ, people will set booby-traps to ensnare, kill, steal and destroy children of glory. My prayer is that the Almighty God will deliver you and your loved ones from every trap set by agents of darkness at home, work and commission to bring down your glory was manifesting and that they shall never be able to pull you down from the high pedestal which God has placed you, in Jesus’ name.

If Jesus Christ had given the Pharisees and Scribes the go-ahead to stone her, they would have accused Him of violating the Roman law under which the Jews were, as Palestine, a part of the Roman empire and under that law, because capital punishment could not be exercised for such an offence. Conversely, if He had said that the woman should not be stoned, they would still have accused Him of violating the Old Testament law.

For the fact that the accusers failed to bring the man that committed the act with that woman for punishment, according to the law of Moses, might suggest that the accusers could have set the woman up with the sole aim of putting her to death. It may not be unlikely that the man who committed the act with the woman was a part of the frame-up as conspiracy theory had always been a part of history. An example was King Ahab who coveted the little vineyard of Naboth and when all attempts by the King to take Naboth’s inheritance from him failed, Queen Jezebel wrote letters in Ahab’s name to the elders and the nobles to “…Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people: And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, Thou didst blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die” (1Kings 21:8-10). Naboth was accused of what he didn’t do and he was killed for an offence he never committed while the masterminds of the false accusation took over what rightly belonged to Naboth – what a life!

The same thing played out when David after he had slept with Bathsheba, wife to one of his soldiers; Uriah – a man of high integrity and unimaginable sense of duty, and put her in the family way. David tried all he could to cover his sin by forcing the pregnancy on Uriah but when all his attempts failed, he returned Uriah to the battlefield and wrote a letter that the commanders should “Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die” (2 Samuel 11:15). Uriah was setup in battle, he was killed before his time and David took over Bathsheba, his wife.

Joseph too had same experience in the hands of Potiphar because he refused to commit adultery with her. She turned the accusation on Joseph which sent the innocent young boy to prison for a crime he never committed (Genesis 39:1-29). Jesus Christ was not spared of this illegal setup in the hands of the Chief priests, elders and all of the council in their determination to put him to death. They, “…sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses (Matt. 26:59-60). With the words of false accusers, the innocent one and Saviour of the world was nailed to the cross.

Jesus Christ, who knows the inner recesses of the heart of man and does not need anyone to testify of man to Him (John 2:25 cf Jeremiah 17:9-10), saw through the hearts of the accusers of the woman ‘caught in the act’, He stooped, started to write something on the ground but when they persisted with their demand, He confirmed the validity of the law being quoted but added that, “… He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her” (John 8:7). All the accusers left one by one, beginning from the oldest.

It is curious to note that all her accusers were not spared of sin either (Romans 3:23; 1John 1:8); and by implication, all of them qualified to be stoned in accordance with the constitution according to Moses. When Jesus Christ raised His head, He asked the woman “…where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more” (John 8:10-11).

Brethren, what Jesus Christ demands from us as His children is to show understanding for those that are yet to be delivered from sin and provide support to anyone that has sinned or sinning through our prayer of intercession and not join hands to discuss, malign and cast stones forgetting that none is immuned against being stoned, if the law of Moses were to be implemented to the letters.

It is therefore our responsibility as candidates on our way to heaven to bring sinners to the knowledge and saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have an obligation to de-populate hell and enlarge heaven through the support we provide for drug addicts, prostitutes, drunks, adulterers, thieves etc. Jesus Christ who saved Saul on his way to commit a more heinous crime against His disciples and changed him to Paul is a God that will not cast stones, will never support stone casting of whatever sort, will never bear offences or hold anything against anyone (Acts 9:1-19). He was the one that saved Mary called Magdalene “…out of whom went seven devils” and adopted her to the household of faith (Luke 8:2); He does not write anyone off, no matter the sins that have been committed. Jesus Christ has a large heart to bring sinners home, provided they confess those sins and pledge not to return to the path of sin again (Isaiah 1:18).

Jesus Christ did not come to implement the stone casting law neither would he cast any stone Himself. He “…came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Luke 5:32; 1 Timothy 1:15; Matthew 15:24; Luke 19:10). During this time of lent brethren, let this same mind be in you, stop throwing stones or joining the league of ‘stone-throwers’, stop judging others consequent on their misdemeanours, show empathy to people with the pandemic Coronavirus or HIV/AIDS cases, provide support to the people that are down, intercede more for people you know that have erred from the path of truth and pray that God will bring them from utter darkness into His marvellous light, in the name of Jesus.

Prayer: Father, during this time of lent, give us grace to work worthy of you, not to join the league of ‘stone-throwers’ but rather to bring sinners to your light, in Jesus’ name.

  • Engaging the Breakthrough Power of Faith!

Engaging the Breakthrough Power of Faith!

    By Dr. David Oyedepo

Welcome to another exciting week! I hope you were blessed by last week teaching. This week, we shall focus on: Engaging the Breakthrough Power of Faith!

From scriptures, we discover that it is only our faith that can make us become what God says. The Bible records, Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised (Hebrews 11:11; see also Isaiah 14:27, 55:11). God has sworn, yet it will take our own faith to become what He has declared. Two things brought about the fulfilment of the prophetic word in Sarah’s life: her faith got the job done; and she also believed in the set time (Genesis 21:1-2). Thus, every prophecy is ordained to be fulfilled at the set time because we serve a God of appointed time (Habakkuk 2:3). God is committed to His timing and when we are in line with the appointed time, our next levels will come. As it is written, And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment (1 Chronicles 12:32). Therefore, if we don’t have an understanding of the time, we stand to be messed up. There are things we must do to experience continuous breakthroughs in our lives. Thus, every breakthrough story in the Kingdom is rooted in specific Word encounters (Isaiah 9:8; John 2:3, 5, 9; Luke 5:4-7). Many people heard the Word but the Word did not produce in their lives because the Word we don’t put to work will never work. It is written, Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works (James 2:18).

What Then, Is The Breakthrough Power Of Faith?

Faith Is Sharing Responsibility With God In The Face Of Scriptures, So As To Commit Him To Make Good His Promise: Any faith that seeks to make God absolutely responsible for the outcome of our lives is an irresponsible faith. Real faith makes us take responsibility to see God in action. Until our part is played, God is not committed.

Faith Is The Spiritual Virtue That Establishes Partnership With The Invincible God, Thereby Empowering Us To Do The Impossible: It is written, What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31). Every time our faith comes alive, God’s partnership with us on that issue of concern is established. So, it is our faith that establishes our partnership with God in dealing with the issues of our lives. For instance, Abraham’s faith was a partnership faith (Genesis 17:1). Every time we believe God, we remind Him of His partnership with us, thus empowering us to do the impossible (Romans 3:3-4). Also, when the Israelites believed Him by going towards the Red Sea, the sea saw them and fled. Their partnership with God made them more than conquerors. Faith Is Not Just Reaching Out To God Who Is In Heaven, It Is Bringing God Down To Where We Are: This means that we are both on the battlefield. His name is called the omnipotent God, and with the breath of His nostrils, He will slay our enemies.

Faith Is Putting God’s Word To Work, Believing: We must maintain a thought pattern that is in line with what we believe (Proverbs 23:7).

Faith Converts The Word Into Flesh: It converts the spiritual to physical and the immaterial into material (John 1:14).

Faith Is Not Just Getting God To Do Something; It Is Securing God’s Partnership In Getting Things Done: As it is written, …for we are labourers together with God (1 Corinthians 3:9). It is that partnership that turns men into living wonders in the world. Faith brings us into partnership that makes us dare the undareable, speak the unspeakable and deliver the impossible.

In summary, if faith is so powerful, why then do we appear so powerless? It is because our faith is not well rooted. Every change of level meets people suddenly, and except our faith is set, we will trash it and miss our set time. We need to build our faith or it will fail us when our lifting comes because we need a set faith to take delivery of our next levels. Therefore, we should invest in making our faith set by tapping into the depth that God has given to those who have it. But, to make your faith set, you must be born again. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so.

Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You, Jesus, for saving me! Now, I know I am born again! For further reading, please get my books: Unlimited Power of Faith, Exploits of Faith, Born to Win and Satan get Lost. • Why Nigeria needs community policing, by criminologist-turned-pastor

Why Nigeria needs community policing, by criminologist-turned-pastor

    By Adeola Ogunlade

Renowned criminologist and General Overseer of Royal House of Faith, Pastor Bassey James, has declared community policing is the ultimate solution to the prevailing insecurity in the nation.

According to him, Nigeria needs a model of community policing where community leaders, Divisional Police Officers and Chairmen of each local government will be in charge of locally recruited and trained vigilantes who would in turn be responsible for securing their local communities.

“So there is need for the government to work with us. Let everybody contribute to the security development of Nigeria, bring in relevant criminologists and retired military people should play a role,” he stated.

James, also the Chairman of Bascon Nigeria Ltd, a security and telecommunication consultant expert, spoke ahead of a proposed conference on launch of Niger Delta Integrated Community Policing Centres.

He explained that the project is aimed at complementing the federal government’s effort in securing the region and build partnership with youths on the needs to shun violence, thuggery, kidnapping and all forms of social vices.

He commended the Inspector General of the Police, Muhammed Adamu, for his favorable disposition to community policing.

James however pointed out that government cannot do it alone, pointing out the business of securing the lives and property cannot be left alone to government anywhere in the world.

The conference, he added, is also targeted at bringing the youths across the region to understand that violence does no one any good.

He said they will also be trained to embrace efforts to secure their communities and government properties within through effective liaison with locals and police authorities.

Niger Delta Integrated Community Policing Centres is the brain child of James, who worked for years with Akwa-Ibom State and the Police in the Delta region.

  • ‘We must quit playing church because holiness is key’

‘We must quit playing church because holiness is key’

Founder, Serve Light of Joy International Ministries, Lady Evangelist Victory Chizuru John speaks with Omolara Akintoye, on why ritualism is on the rise and the needs for Christians need to focus more on soul winning. Excerpts:

There seems to be lots of ritualism now, do you think it’s because the church has failed?

The church has not failed despite evidence of the activities happening around us. We have left the purpose why God called us into ministry; winning soul and depopulating hell. Our focus is now prosperity and other aspects that have brought quick miracle and wonders without God’s presence.

We are busy demonstrating power without God at the centre. I have an encounter with God recently. One fateful day, something terrible happened to me.

I woke up and was feeling strange, a voice was telling me from my inner man, that I’ll die that day. It came repeatedly. I rebuked it with the word of God. I went out for my normal activities, immediately I came in the voice repeatedly became more audible.

At this time, I became scared but I encouraged myself and began to pray. After few prayers, I was getting weak I decided to take a nap. Immediately I laid down, I felt my legs getting cold. That’s was all I could remember.

Later, I saw myself on a lonely road. I was wondering within myself where I was? When I looked at the other side of the road I saw people gathered crying uncontrollably and bitterly.

I was moved with compassion, I just said let me go and inquired why the wailing but no response. I tried hugging some people but could not.

My hands were actually penetrating through them. I couldn’t understand what was going on. I heard them saying oh evangelist is no more but they cannot hear me.

The crowd said a lot of things with sorrow and agony. My body was lifeless, on the ground. It was now clear to me that I was dead. They prayed and fasted for me to wake up as they didn’t take my body to mortuary initially.

When there was no improvement, they decided to do so as a reverend who came to pray asked them to take my body to the mortuary.

I was transformed to glory. I was taken to a very beautiful place. Soon, I equally began to cry for help and another chance to come back to live.

An angel visited tapped my shoulder and said you have not won a single soul for Christ as a minister. The torment increased while I was wailing, asking God for mercy that another angel tapped me with a message to amend my ways, instructing me to preach salvation, holiness and I woke up.

But I was lying on a table at the morgue all the attendance ran away, except one who was overwhelmed with fear and I spoke to him about salvation. He had an encounter with Jesus and I woke up and saw I have been in my bed room for the past four days.

The truth behind what is happening today is lack of knowledge and until the church returns to God, ritual killing would increase because people have deviated from the truth.  The church has not failed because God is raising true end time disciples secretly and the manifestation is now.

How did your journey into ministry begin?

At 13, I started singing although secular music. At that time,  P Square was my role model because I love the way he sang and

I wanted to develop the gift to sing hip-hop and rap alongside. But while I was still trying to achieve this I met Christ Jesus.  So I started the ministry, six years ago and God has been performing diverse miracles.

How has your growing up contributed to what you are doing now?

Growing up don’t have anything to do with my being called into ministry but my encounter with Jesus contributed to my Christian race. My parents were just religious people, they were not born again.

    How challenging has ministry been?

It has been very challenging. I have encountered really tough situations, different satanic attacks physically and spiritually. I have experienced betrayals. Break away from the ministry. I have been criticised, sometimes you face disrespect among other issues.

How come you haven’t given up despite all these?

God have been real in my life. I have witnessed tremendous power from above. God has performed diverse miracles; I have never lacked anything good. I have been involved charitable works, giving to the poor and needy.

Whenever I hold crusade or any revival programmes, there is an outpour of the power of the Holy Spirit. There are great testimonies because everyone who attended manifest diverse gifts. God has called me to raise seeds, preach salvation, prosperity, among many other things.

What is your message to church leaders?

The church should return to God. Heaven and Hell are real. Ministers of the gospel, church leaders and workers, God’s generals in Christ should focus on winning souls. We must depopulate hell and ensure they are born again and rooted in Christ not just religious people.

To the government, when the righteous rules the people rejoice but when the wicked rules the people cry, righteousness exalts the nation while sin is a reproach. Our leaders are expected to rule with integrity and faithfulness both to God and man.

  • Gateways to Contacting the Spirit of Faith!

Gateways to Contacting the Spirit of Faith!

    Dr. David Oyedepo

Welcome to March! I believe every one of us must have had definite encounters with God via His Word in the course of the month of February, 2020, I pray that the impact of these encounters will be for life (Amen). This week, we shall focus on: Gateways to Contacting the Spirit of Faith!

From scriptures, we discover that the Spirit of faith is one of the components of the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 4:13).

Also, it is the master key to a world of unlimited possibilities. Concerning the heroes of faith in scriptures, the Bible records, Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens (Hebrews 11:33-34).

It is also important to recognise that we require the Spirit of faith to fulfil our glorious destinies in Christ because the exploits that God will wrought in our lives cannot be handled by our human imagination.

What Then, Is Unique About The Spirit Of Faith?

    • It Empowers Us To Believe All Things: It takes the Spirit of faith to believe all things and we are only empowered to become what we believe (John 1:12; Mark 9:23; Acts 24:14).It is important to understand that the spirit of fear cannot survive where the Spirit of faith dwells. Thus, it is the level to which the Spirit of faith is at work in our lives that determines what God does (Luke 1:45).
    • It Is A Speaking Spirit: The Spirit of faith speaks the unspeakable through us to commit God to intervene (Matthew 10:20; 2 Corinthians 4:13).The Spirit of faith also speaks through us what our hearts cannot conceive. For instance, when Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego determined not to bow to king Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image, they were not the ones who spoke but the Spirit of faith (Daniel 3:16-18).
    • It Is A Transferable Spirit: It is important to understand that the Spirit of faith is transferrable from generation to generation. For instance, it was said about Elisha that ‘the spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha’. Also, as regards John, the scripture says that he shall go forth in the spirit and power of Elijah. Therefore, we can be imparted with the Spirit of faith from those who carry it (2 Kings 2:15; Luke 1:17). Thus, craving for the Spirit of faith is vital to fulfilling our glorious destinies in Christ (Ephesians 6:16).

What Then, Are The Gateways To Encountering The Spirit Of Faith?

    • Coveting The Spirit Of Faith: Among the nine gifts of the Spirit is faith. It is written, To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way (1 Corinthians 12:9, 31).The Spirit of faith cannot be purchased with money but can be acquired by coveting it earnestly. There was transference of Spirit from Elijah to Elisha because the latter desperately coveted it (2 Kings 2:9, 15).Therefore, if we locate anybody operating in the level of faith we desire, we must go after him/her to possess it.
    • Having A Genuine Thirst: Every empowerment of the Spirit demands a desperate thirst, a longing and a panting (Psalm 63:1-2; Isaiah 44:3-4). Therefore, we must desperately desire an encounter with the Spirit of faith before we can experience the impartation.
    • Feeding On The Word Of God: We must understand that it is not enough to possess the Spirit of faith; we have a responsibility to keep that Spirit alive and working. The Spirit of faith can be likened to a bonfire, which must be fed with wood to keep it alive. Thus, we keep the bonfire of the Spirit of faith alive via God’s Word (Leviticus 6:12-13). When we do not feed the Spirit of faith, we starve and grieve it, and if we are not careful, it may be quenched. Thus, no Word-lazy believer can sustain the operation of the Spirit of faith because it draws its strength from the Word.
    • By Access To The Voice Of God: This is a direct access to the voice of God. It is proven that no one hears God and still doubts Him. When God speaks, the Spirit of faith, which destroys all doubts, is fired into us. This was practically demonstrated in Exodus 14:15-16, when God told Moses to tell the children of Israel to move forward.Though Moses had never seen the sea part before, when God spoke, the Spirit of faith entered into him and brought him into the realm of peace that passes all understanding. As it is written, For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his (Hebrews 4:10). Also, we must realise that God speaks to us in three major ways:
    • Through the verses of Scriptures (Isaiah 34:16).
    • By His Spirit (Revelation 2:7; John 16:12-14).
    • Through His Prophets (Hosea 12:10; Luke 4:27).

In conclusion, the Spirit of faith is one of the best gifts of the Spirit. This is because it puts us in command of the issues of life, which are of concern to others.

Also, the Spirit of faith is unquenchable by the forces of darkness because it is ever in charge of situations and circumstances. However, it is important to understand that faith is no cheap talk; it is hard work.

This is why we must take personal responsibility to keep the Spirit of faith alive and working in our lives by constantly feeding on the Word daily. However, this can only be possible when you are a bonafide child of God.

Tributes as Ogunbola retires after 50 years of service

    Samuel Oamen

Fifty years after active ministry, Apapa District Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church Lagos, Rev. Michael Ogunbola, has retired.

Friends, associates and well-wishers converge on the 7th Avenue, Festac, Lagos headquarters of the district last week to bid him a deserving retirement.

They said his 18-year stint as District Superintendent was not only fruitful but extremely productive.

They recalled God used Ogunbola and his wife, Evangelist Esther produce pastors, build churches and schools and executed projects with little or no fund.

Under him, according to them, the district gave birth to Badagry and Lekki districts with over 110 branches.

Secretary to the Church, Reverend Chukwudebelu Vincent, described Ogunbola as a leader par excellence, a spirit- filled man with five-dimensional strength.

He said: “I have been under the tutelage of Reverend Ogunbola for many years now.

“He is a man who is not easily swayed by public opinion, a Yoruba man who excellently led a denomination where the Igbos dominate. He is extremely committed to project execution.”

He added: “He is a man of God whose impact was not only felt church members but also by non-church members, whose children have benefited from his annual scholarship programme which is being determined by an annual quiz competition.

“The Assemblies of God secondary school Festac is another project that was executed by Reverend Ogunbola in 2017, currently having over 1000 pupils and majority is non-members of the church.”

Another top official of the church, Reverend Gabriel Chinedu, described the retiring superintendent as a gift to the church.

He stated if it were possible, he would have asked him to remain as a leader because of his giftedness, thoroughness in administrative management.

According to him: “Rev Ogunbola is a man whose good works will continue to speak for him after he is gone, a principled man who frowns at idleness and embraces hardworking, a time keeper who is punctual at all time, a man of laudable character who is a role model to many.”

Ogunbola told reporters during the retirement service that it was actually God’s grace that saw him through his days of ministry.

He said: “One of the things I’m thankful to God for is that I am alive to witness this day.

‘’So many pastors started the race and died in ministry, but here am I today, hale and hearty and able to hand over the mantle to another Pastor.”

When asked if he had challenges that almost made him quit ministry, he said: “There were challenges but God kept seeing me through and as for quitting, there was a particular time I felt like quitting because those I trusted and put my trust in, betrayed me, but I prayed and seek the face of God, and He saw me through the ordeal.

“Even though he is retiring as a district superintendent, he is not retiring from the work of God.”
