There are innovations every day in almost all aspects of human life. Whether it is the way film productions are done, or the way stage performances are conducted these days, there is need for those involved to be more innovative and proactive. But one person who is ever ready to go the extra mile in her quest to do new things for the society is Nike Ogunbiade-Etiebet. As an artiste, educator and entrepreneur, she has just invented a new board game called The Chairman’s Empire Game.
In a press briefing in Lagos last week, Agunbiade-Etiebet said, “our modern day reality shows that job opportunities are drying up. That is why you see many graduates still roaming the streets in search of jobs many years after graduation. A child brought up with the idea that he could establish and run a business of his own may just have his mind attuned to being his own boss after his university education instead of searching for non-existent jobs”.
Agunbiade-Etiebet who is the Chief Executive Officer of HIIMA International Education Services/Edutainment sees this as part of her contribution to the use of games and entertainment to entrench the ideals of a comprehensive education. She said further, “The Chairman’s Empire is part of edutainment. It is a thrilling board game which can be played by two or more players. It takes players through the nitty-gritty of modern business practice. It is totally designed to be enjoyed by both adults and children of seven years old and above”
Modelled in a way to broaden people’s business acumen, it also helps players to grasp the dynamics of doing business. Whether in the entertainment industry, film production, script writing, commerce, oil industry, advertising, stock exchange, hotel and hospitality, fashion and beauty, creative art, insurance, information technology, media and more, the game is meant to sharpen people’s sense of sound reasoning that will give birth to a business empire.
According to her, this model took her time to produce as part of her contribution to help people adopt financial discipline while trying to create their own jobs. “Yes, it helps players to develop entrepreneurial, creative and innovative mindset to see possibilities and opportunities. It is to teach strategic thinking where a player has to maintain fundamentals of a healthy cash flow. When this is properly done, it helps also to avoid bankruptcy, leading thereby to a business engagement in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects”.
All said, Agunbiade-Etiebet believes that as more people that acquire this skill so also will the issue of joblessness be reduced amongst the youths. “This is why it is good for children to begin to play it on time. It will open their mindsets early enough”, she concluded.
