Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has ordered the Kwara State Physical and Town Planning Authority to seal off two buildings under construction at Offa in Offa Local Government.

The two projects under construction, it was gathered, are billed to be used as school of nursing and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) computer-based test (CBT) centre.

The Chairman, Kwara State Technical Committee, COREN, Bashir Lawal, spoke when his team visited some project sites in Offa.

He described the materials used in the construction of the building as below standard.

Lawal said the building of a private polytechnic on Offa-Irra road, in Oyun Local Government, should be stopped.

He said the owners of the project could not produce a town planning approval.

Lawal said: “The first two project sites we visited are ‘slaughter houses’.

They don’t conform to standard of engineering practice in any part of the world.

The materials they are using to construct those projects should not be used for any building, let alone public buildings.

“Accordingly, we have directed the Kwara State Physical and Town Planning Authority to seal them off and even demolish the two of them, as they are not habitable.”
