Coronavirus: Three pastors arrested for non-compliance

Three pastors were on Sunday arrested, warned and released for refusing to adhere to the directive on social distancing as a preventive measure against Coronavirus, The Nation learnt on Monday.

Also, eight churches, eight clubs, six events centres and 15 schools were sealed by operatives of the Lagos State police command for flouting the state’s directive.

It was gathered that the affected clubs were mostly located at Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, Festac Town and Ikeja areas of the state which ran their businesses as usual in disregard to the order that social gatherings should not exceed 50.

The Nation learnt that the 15 schools were shut yesterday for  opening up their premises for children to be accommodated.

Some of the schools located in Agege and Ketu were alleged to have sent messages to parents and pupils asking them to come in mufti which some of the parents reported to security agencies.

Deputy Commissuoner of Police (DCP) Mohammed Ali confirmed the pastors’release, saying that the aim was not to detain them but have them understand they were jeopardising public health safety.

Ali noted that the weekly prayers at the mosque did not hold because of the importance of respecting directives.
