THE Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) is advocating for a process that will bring about disruption in the housing sector but in a good way.
The registrar of the council Peter Kuroshi who made the statement, said that the constant building collapses being witnessed in the country is caused by unlicensed personnel.
He said that by law the builder is the producer of buildings; he relies on production information generated by other professionals in the field which the builder uses to construct.
He added that faulty processes on the sense of the delivery, execution, faulty designs could lead to collapse, essentially structural designs and if one purchases substandard materials, the person will have issues with the building.
He stated this in Abuja at the 2019 Builders Congress organized by the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON).
He said, “We are advocating for a process that will bring about disruption but in a good way, disruption in the construction industry that can bring about positive results that can lead to the construction industry giving value to the Nigerian public.
“There are several causes of building collapse not just the materials used in building, faulty processes on the sense of the delivery, execution, faulty designs can lead to collapse essentially structural designs and if one purchases substandard materials you will have issues with the building. As far as CORBON is concerned, we believe the major cause of building collapse is quackery.
“Buildings in Nigeria are being constructed by non-professionals, by law the builder is the producer of buildings, he relies on production information generated by other professionals in the field which the builder will use to construct but we are very much aware that unlicensed personnel are responsible for most of the buildings that have collapsed in this country.”
