Beneficiaries of the two week-short term skill acquisition financed by Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, in conjunction with Speedup Lagos, have graduated.
They were trained in fabric design and souvenir production, catering and food management, home essentials and make-up.
House Leader Kiki Emmanuel advised them to make good use of the knowledge they acquired.
Representative of Director of Necessary Measures against Perversity and Poverty (NEMAP), an NGO, Kemisola Sanni, urged them not to relax but improve on what they learnt. She said the training was a way to empower women to be self-reliant and resourceful.
Sanni appreciated the council Chairman, Valentine Buraimoh, for having the people’s interest at heart.
Head of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in the council Folami Abisola admonished the graduates to continue in the skills they learnt to sustain themselves.
A beneficiary, Jolaoluwa Adesanya, who learnt make-up and headgear tying, said: “I can do it for myself and for the people. I learnt it for just two weeks and I have started tying headgear for people.”
Funmi Shodiya, who learnt catering and food management, thanked the chairman and WAPA for sponsoring the programme, saying the two-week training helped her a lot.
“I have been looking for this kind of opportunity for long until now. I have been getting patronage through my posts on social media and I am happy.”
