Speaker of Ibeju-Lekki Legislative Council Mojeed Olayinka has alleged that he was being threatened by a gang over his ancestral land in Agbowa-Onibeju in Lagos State.
In a letter by his lawyer, Mr Olalekan Ajia, he urged the police and the Department of State Service (DSS) to intervene in the case before things got out of hand.
Olayinka claimed that the gang which is from three villages away had been intimidating and harassing his people in Agbowa-Onibeju for years over the land.
“The gang’s plan is to sell the land and its leader has vowed to stop at nothing to achieve this aim”, the letter alleged.
It claimed that during the last July 24 local government election, the gang disrupted polling at Agbowa-Onibeju. It alleged that a complaint against the action had not been addressed up till now.

Ajia claimed that the gang’s leader has been boasting that nothing would come out of the complaint.
He recalled that a farmer in Agbowa-Onibeju, Ishau Olayinka, was arrested in January, last year, on trumped-up charges, and was only released after intervention from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The lawyer said some people working for the gang leader had washed their hands off a 2018 fundamental rights enforcement case filed at the Federal High Court, Lagos, against the speaker on the grounds that they knew nothing about the suit.
A certified true copy of a July 3, 2019 judgment by an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Ogba showed that they agreed to have their names struck off the high court case under the terms of settlement of the criminal charge preferred against them at the lower court.
The gang leader refused being named in the story, saying he was waiting to consult with his lawyer, who travelled abroad.
