Over one hundred people have been trained in various vocational skills.
The training was organised by the Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area in collaboration with the Lagos State Empowerment Trust Fund.
Twenty of them last Wednesday, received N250,000 cheques as start-up capitals.
Their joy knew no bound as they mounted the podium one after the other to receive their cheques.
The council Chairman, Dr Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira said the presentation signifies the start of a new life for the beneficiaries.
He said N10 million was spent on the project and urged the recipients to be diligent in spending the funds.

Apatira said: “You have acquired various skills from the vocational training organised by the Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Department; you have graduated, and now facing the task of becoming entrepreneurs with a set target and start-up capital.
“What you are getting today is to enable you to pursue and grow your business. It should be used for business purpose and not filtered away. It will also help you expand your small scale business, enhance your living standard and tackle unemployment.”
He praised managers of the state’s Empowerment Trust Fund for doing a lot to alleviate poverty in the society.
He said the agency had given grants to individuals to start their own businesses after undergoing training.
He said this would equip the youth with first–hand knowledge on how to grow their businesses, “which is very important for the success of any business and society.
“I want to assure the people of this council that this administration is poised to ameliorate their sufferings. We would also ensure the beneficiaries are monitored and mentored for the success and growth of their various businesses. I wish you all the best in your pursuit of a better life and living condition.”
