A Federal High Court 2 in Kano has fixed February 20 for the hearing of the suit by Abdulmumini Jibril Kofa, on his suspension by the National Assembly.
The adjournment was requested by Jibril’s lawyer, Bashir Muhammad Muqaddam, who pleaded that they received a response from the defendants 20 hours to the sitting.
“We only received the defendants’ response on Tuesday, January 17, about 1.20pm, and we didn’t have enough time to respond to the issues raised therein. As a result, we sought for an adjournment of the hearing to February 20,” he said.
According to him, the defendants raised fundamental issues and urged the court to harmonise the case with a similar one at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The issue, according to him, was that the service on the defendants was not effectively done. “These are fundamental issues that we need enough time to respond appropriately,” Muqaddam said.
The counsel agreed that the matter be adjourned till February 20 for the plaintiff to address the court on the issues raised by the defendants.
Justice Suleiman Idris Akoko adjourned hearing till February 20.
