Innercity Mission for Children, an NGO member of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation International has presented some food items to residents of Oko Oba, Agege lagos.

The emergency food donation which was in partnership with the Lagos State Government took place on Friday at the Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority, Oko Oba.

Speaking at the event, the Director, Innercity Mission for Children, Pastor Mrs Omo Alabi stated that the idea was birthed as a vision of the world-renowned Pastor and Philanthropist, Rev. Dr. Chris Oyakhilome to take action to meet the needs of indigent children and families.

“The challenge of the poor is not just about their needs; we are equally meeting our own needs. It is in your interest to help the poor. We have a divine responsibility to God, to the Church and the society to reach children in our inner cities”, she said.

“Our Emergency Food Response targets vulnerable children, households and communities to help them cushion the effects of the government’s stay-at-home directive. Already, this has begun in different countries as an offshoot of our Global Food Drive Initiative which kicked off in the month of March. Through this Initiative, working with our network of partners, we are on course to raise and distribute 50 million meals to needy children and families, orphanages and food banks that serve the needy. Our Emergency relief packages contain lifesaving food supplies and hygiene kits required to curb the spread of the Covid19 virus. So far, over 300,000 meals have been distributed”.

Receiving the donation on behalf of Lagos State, the Lagos State Commisioner for Agriculture, Mr Gbolahan Lawal thanked the InnerCity Mission for their contribution.

“I want to on behalf of the Governor or Lagos State and the good people of Lagos to say thank you to InnerCity Mission for the donation they just gave to us and I want to assure Lagosians that these would be judiciously distributed to the vulnerable people in the society that the emergency response food is actually meant for.

“You will recall that we started twenty days ago and so far we have taken care of over two hundred thousand households for the first half of the first phase and the second half was to distribute parliatives to Lagosians that are above the age of sixty, about twenty five thousand of them.

“Now we are at the second phase done in two groups, ethnic groups and religious organizations, trade organizations and some vulnerable communities. You will also recall that the govenrmnet has also commenced the community kitchen as it is known.

“The decision is to feed hundred thousand youths to reduce the burden that the Covid-19 has triggered. So on behalf of Lagos state govenrmnet I want to thank Innercity. They have already identified the communities they think we can also reach out to. They will also help in the distribution of these packages.
