COVID-19: Expert tasks FG on sustainable job creation

The Chief Investment Officer, Ovid Capita, United Kingdom, has called for pragmatic strategic plans to create sustainable jobs, boost trade and industrialise Nigeria.

Akpokabayen, in a statement from South Africa, said that the current pandemic has exposed the poor depth of basic infrastructure and systems to protect Nigeria.

He said: “Obviously, this has been echoed over the years by different experts. Instead of looking for bright minds to lead various sections of our industries and institutions to ignite the needed yarning changes desired by all of our people, we spent time looking for who to blame and hipping blames on past leaders without taking consequent action against them and leaving the decay to linger on”.

He lamented: “We are now more in a worse situation before the coronavirus and we should see this as a mark in time where future generations will see this as the turning point where the upward projectile of our nation’s progress.”

Akpokabayen said that although a lot was being done, Nigeria needs drastic impact and framework to create sustainable jobs.

“There are lots of good plans and ideas, what is required now is political good will to take action and right leaders and people to drive it. It is all there,” he added,

He also called for child birth control policy for the next 20 years in Nigeria, stating “We cannot just continue to grow at the rate we are growing without control and plans or infrastructure to take care of the population. Enough is enough”

He added: “There should be a cap on the number of child a family or woman can have. It needs to be debated and implemented. It is far late already. An example of such and success is China.”
