Since the index Coronavirus case was announced Nigeria in early February, there has been a drastic increase in the use of social media by many Nigerians as a means to cure boredom, entertain themselves while some use it to connect with their friends to maintain social distancing as advices by the government.
Popular Social media influencer, Rufai Saleem Mayowa divulged that; “Coronavirus has forced lots of Nigerians to stay indoors to reduce the spread of the virus, a result of that, a lot of Nigerians have more time for their mobile phones and by extension, social media such as;Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok among others.
Rufai further explained that, social media has become a strong tool Nigerian have resorted to keep themselves busy while they are practicing social distancing. “The pandemic has also raised many social media influencers who have also used the period gathered many followers through their constant content creation and posting on their various platforms.
He also noted that a lot of twitter and Instagram users have noticed a 65% increase in the visibility of the contents that they share on both apps respectively. The Coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria now has more people staring at their mobile phones than ever, so this is basically a good time to place adverts to display goods and services on social media as well as run promotions and publicity of different brands and industry to the public using social media.
Social media influencers and marketers have taken the advantage of the high rate of traffic generated on social platforms to increase the reach of their posts and contents also get more visibility on their respective platforms which inturn will attract top brands and also aid adverts that brings cash flow in return.
