Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has assured civil servants in the state that the low revenue occasioned by Coronavirus pandemic would not lead to any salary cut.
Governor Akeredolu who spoke through the Head of Service, (HoS), Mr. Dare Aragbaiye, at a media briefing maintained that workers welfare remained a priority for his administration.
Akeredolu explained that payment of salaries to Local Government Workers was being prorated since February 2020 due to continuous decline in the monthly allocation from FAAC.
He however said only 50% of May salary was the outstanding emolument for Local Government workers including primary school Teachers.
The Governor disclosed that N41m was saved from the monthly salaries and wages after verification exercise was carried out Local Government workers, Primary School Teachers and Pensioners between August and November, 2019.
He said there was discovery of salaries manipulation of N4m by the Salary Control Officers of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) at Akure North LGEA.
Akeredolu said N1.9m has been recovered while disciplinary actions against the officers alleged to have been involved in the fraud have commenced.
He said, “There are no plans by the government to cut salary of workers because of COVID-19.
“The truth is that payment of salaries to Local Government Workers is being prorated since February 2020 due to continuous decline in the monthly allocation from FAAC.
“For instance, 90% of salaries was paid in February, 2020. In March, 2020 the 10% balance was paid with a 70% salary for March based on available funds. In April, the 30% balance of March salary was paid alongside 60% salaries for April.
“The trend continued in May 2020 where 40% balance left for April was paid with 50% salaries for the month of May. At present, only 50% of May Salary is outstanding and would be paid as soon as June allocation comes.
