COVID-19: NCDC National Rapid Response Team arrives Niger

The Nigeria Center for Disease Control National Rapid Response Team (NCDC-NRRT) led by Dr. Ifeanyi Abali has arrived Niger state to offer support to the state task force on COVID-19 activities and monitoring.

The NCDC-NRRT Niger team comprised of Dr. Ifeanyi Abali as team leader, Dr. Dangana Ibrahim, Dr. Suleiman Lamorde, Dr. Henry Elechi and Okoro Onyebuchi Augustine as team members.

Briefing the NCDC-NRRT support team, the Director of Niger State Public Health, Dr. Ibrahim Idris disclosed that about 11 specimen samples have so far been taken to NCDC for analysis and evaluation.

The Niger State Epidemiologist, Dr. Patrick further stated that a total number of 74 contacts have been traced and are under close monitoring and observation.

He added that the 74 contacts include 53 at Limawa community and 21 in Suleja.

The NCDC-NRRT Niger team leader, Dr. Ifeanyi Abali while briefing the Niger state task force on COVID-19 said that the objectives of the NCDC-NRRT support for Niger State were to ensure filling of case investigation forms, to ensure sample reference laboratory testing, build capacity of State case detection, investigation, management and risk communication and to ensure real-time notification of disease for enhancing timely decision making for COVID-19 emergency operations.

He said that other objectives are to support the State emergency operations centre and strengthen its incident management, support the coordination of case management, strengthen surveillance coordination.

He added that the integration of tasks in terms of contact tracing, rumour management, and emergency operations response and giving a daily report on the situation are also part of its activities.
