The Osun State government has said “the reason for extending the lockdown directives is to forestall community transmission of coronavirus.
Osun state governor, Adegboyega Oyetola had on Tuesday extended statewide lockdown for another two weeks.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Ismail Omipidan said the decision was in line with the recommendation by medical experts and concerned authorities which was taken in the overall interest of the State.
The Governor’s spokesman who described the action as worthwhile and a right step in the right direction implored citizens and residents of the State to continue to abide by the rules and regulations guiding the lockdown order.
His words: “the best way to avoid community transmission of the virus was to maintain the total lockdown and ensure that nobody is allowed to come into the State.

“Allowing people to move freely within and outside the state would be dangerous and suicidal to the collective health of the citizenry. Imagine what would have happened if we had not ordered a total lockdown. It would have been worse and we would have recorded more cases.
“As we all know, the lockdown gives room for easy contact tracing, it helps to control the socioeconomic activities and by extension, since no one would be allowed to come in, then, the community transmission of the disease would be properly managed”, he added.
He commended residents of the state for their compliance throughout the initial 14-day lockdown, just as he urged them not to relent but continue to extend their hands of support to the government in its efforts to ensure general safety and healthy living.
