Cross River, NDE partner to check migration

The Cross River State Government and the National Directorate on Employment (NDE) have promised to work together on ways to improve the lives of the people in a bid to check migration.

The Director General, Migration Control Agency, Cross River State, Michael Nku Abuo, disclosed this after a visit to the Director General of the NDE, Abubakar Nuhu, in Abuja.

Abuo said said the visit to the DG was to explore areas of synergy on skills acquisition to get more people engaged.

He said they also discussed other areas of mutual interest as it relates to the Directorate and the mandate of Migration Control Agency as well as ways to deepen the people oriented initiatives of the Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade.

He also appreciated the DG for his promise to ensure Cross Riverians benefit from the programmes of the Federal Government through the Directorate.

He congratulated Nuhu on his recent confirmation as substantive Director General of NDE.

Abuo has been advocating for legislation to back labour migration as a means of boosting national development.

He said despite attempts by the federal and state governments to address the issue of unemployment, the way forward is to tackle the menace is through labour migration.

He explained that Cross River Migration Control is exploring and advancing for opportunities for citizens of the State who are at home and in Diaspora under a work study programme that will give access to student loans and jobs.

He added that at the end the day, they will come back to the State to inject their expertise in developing various sectors of the state economy as part of developing human resources.
