Some dairy farming communities had cause to smile as Tetra Pak provided them with solar-powered boreholes and stainless-steel milk collection containers.
The firm said these will give them access to clean water as well as aid with the hygienic transportation of their fresh milk to nearby milk collection centres.
It is part of the firm’s commitment to the sustainability agenda and in alignment with the UN Sustainable development goals.
Tetra Pak, a world-leading food processing and packaging company, said it is expanding its efforts in the development of the dairy industry value chain in Nigeria with the introduction of the Local Milk Initiative.
Managing Director of Tetra Pak West Africa, Mr Oshiokamele Aruna, reiterated Tetra Pak’s global commitment to sustainable dairy development as guided by the UN Sustainable development goals.

He noted that the demand for dairy products is expected to rise across the world and even more in countries across Africa, which is part of the company’s motivation to focus its effort in this direction.
According to him, the boreholes being solar-powered means that the communities will have access to clean water 24/7 with no negative impact on the environment.
“They no longer have to rely on compromised water sources that can spread disease in their communities,” he said.
Aruna reiterated Tetra Pak’s commitment to driving the sustainability agenda forward in Nigeria through its various initiatives.
