Designer combines African vintage with street style in new collection

ABUJA-BASED fashion designer, Nelly Erivwode, has combined African vintage fabrics with modern street style in her new collection.

The Edo State designer and owner of Nel Couture said that the collection is to ake people see that they can be classy and modest in Ankara, which has for long been associated with older generations.

Erivwode stated this in Abuja, while introducing her fashion line in preparation for her runway show that will take place in Gwarimpa, Abuja.

“Nel couture is a Nigerian fashion brand, which is into women fashion, we make exclusive and fashionable designs, we create styles for the modest woman who wants to be stylish and still look very decent,” she said, speaking with The Nation.

“We try to put into consideration that the African woman has a nice body and we are making beautiful designs to suit this body types. Most times, we dedicate time and passion to what we do in order for the woman to come out exclusively nice. I have always loved fashion. I am a fashionista so to speak. I wear nice cloths and love colourful outfits. I try to put in a lot of creativity in all that I do. I have that passion in seeing someone looking good and coming back to show appreciation.

“The collection that we are launching is called Urban Collection. We are looking into the African vintage fabrics that can be spotted from afar, popular Ankara fabrics that are well-known and combining them with street style urban fashion and make people see that you can be classy, modest in Ankara that can be worn for all occasions.”
