Dispute over allocation of open space

By Olusegun Rapheal

The crisis on the open space at Santo’s layout, Shasha Akowonjo in Alimosho Local Government Area, Lagos State is generating heat with some land grabbers claiming to be owners of a park approved as part of Santos layout plan since 1977.

Investigation reveal that the face-off is between the landgrabbers claiming the park approved as open space in the approved layout for Iyayomi family and the CDA executives in the community. An approved plan documents in possession of the C.D.A from the Ministry of Works and Planning, Physical Planning Division dated 25th April 1977  signed by the then Permanent Secretary approved the open space for public use. Findings also shows  that the park has been in existence for Sports and other activities.  Schools all over the community make use of this for various activities  and it helped the development of the people not only the community but the Local Governments as a whole.

It was therefore a surprise on May 24th 2019 when the land Grabbers invaded the Community with armed Task Force men and hoodlums who forcefully brought down the gate to the layout and replaced it with a new one they brought.
